Very useful video, even to a old pro. Ignore the ignorant comments from some of the trolls below who barely have a command of their own language, let alone another. BTW occasionally, you get lucky and can swap and switch shims around on the motor and not have to buy any. And for the uninitiated, too much clearance is far better than too little. You can look at the lobes when you pull the cover, and the ones that are shiny all the way around are usually too tight. Another sign is a engine that develops a miss as it warms up.
Hi Peter, thank you for the videos. Perhaps I think it would be better to use a micrometer with a rounded tip at the plunger on the side where the shim is worn out. Cheers to all
Hello, very well explained, I want to know if you can tell me how to calibrate and if you give me the values for each exhaust valve as for intake of this three-cylinder TOYOTA YARIS second series 2nd XP9 (2005/2011)
Thanks Peter …… Excellent description of a very complicated subject ..also wanted to ask about the hook bolted to the back left side of the head…. Is that for pulling the moter or just the head? 😊
Hi Peter!! I was wondering what you think about if my 2000 Toyota Camry 2.2l engine with 202k miles runs excellent and is very quiet should I bother with checking the valve clearances? I just put a new valve cover gasket on. New fuel filter, new air filter, new spark plugs, new PVC valve, and what really made so much difference in performance and it stopped the miss was a original Toyota Map Sensor. It runs PERFECT. Wish the body was nice. Lots of dents. I got it this way three years ago for a thousand dollars. Now trying to figure out where to buy cheap but goot tires? Any ideas? 205/65/15. Thank you Sir 😊👍👍👍👍.
Hey, all you have to do is put gas in the tank and drive this Camry 2.2 for the next 27 years. Your car's 2.2 engine is an absolutely Super Great engine. It was made in the 1990s and is better and more durable than the newer 2.4 machine. 👍😀😀 Hi Peter!! I was wondering what you guys think, if my 2000 Toyota Camry 2.2L with 202,000 miles runs great and is very quiet, should I bother checking the valve clearances? I just installed a new valve cover gasket. New fuel filter, new air filter, new spark plugs, new PVC valve, and what really made such a difference in performance and stopped the cheating was the original Toyota Map Sensor. It works PERFECTLY. I hope the body is comfortable. Lots of dents. I got it this way three years ago for a thousand dollars. Are you now trying to figure out where to buy cheap but bad tires? Any ideas? 205/65/15. Thank you sir 😊👍👍👍👍.
Check every 48k miles according to the same manual he used and also I’ll add the formula to use in case you don’t have a chart for the camshaft follower…. Toyota implements this formula for valve adjustment…. N=T+(A-V) T- thickness of the old shim or follower A- valve clearance measured N- thickness of the new shim or follower V- desired valve clearance
so ……….It’s done cold and U have to pull the camshaft off every time you need to make an adjustment ……and re torque it wen u put it back on again? Wow…..
Hi Peter. i have 2017 corolla 1.33 vvti with no LPG. its only at 24000 km. But is it possible that valve problem issue occures. Vibrating idle while engine is hot, sometimes late start-up engine with white smoke from exhaust. Everything controlled, the lastly is stay valve clearance. Can you give me some info about it. Thanks !
I agree, he’s not a personality, but the the information & demonstration is 100% spot on. Maybe it’s not what u want, but it’s what u need. I’d rather watch this than some doofus desperately trying to b entertaining while providing subpar info.
Where I'm from we call people like you a beast in these streets!

You are very welcome

Excellent adjustments, measurements and mathematical calculations, Peter!
Many thanks!👍

Is it ok to set tappet loose after a fresh engine rebuild? the idea is to let valve seat to adjust properly cause they were built new too.
Thanks and noted 👍

Good ,Peter, According to your experience, how often do you need to adjust for this model? In general, does the clearance become larger or smaller?
Toyota Camry keeps normally Valve clearances very well. But check is recommend. Normally clearance becomes larger.
Check every 48k miles according to the same manual he used and also I’ll add the formula to use in case you don’t have a chart for the camshaft follower….
Toyota implements this formula for valve adjustment….
N=T+(A-V)
T- thickness of the old shim or follower
A- valve clearance measured
N- thickness of the new shim or follower
V- desired valve clearance
In a case where all valve shims are mixed together accidentally..how do i know where each valve shims are supposed to go?
so ……….It’s done cold and U have to pull the camshaft off every time you need to make an adjustment ……and re torque it wen u put it back on again? Wow…..
Lol ……. can we send the head, valves, lifters and camshaft to you to adjust the clearances?
When you install thinner lifter wouldn’t that increase clearance? When do you add shims?
Ok, threare are smaller and bigger shims
Thank you for sharing us this knowledge
My pleasure

👍😊
what kind of engine has the cam lobes both opening/closing at same time?...
For example, in this Toyota VVT-i engine
