My father in law always says that Sammie Davis Jr was the original version of Prince how all that talent was contained in a little small man.
Exactly...
RIP SAMMY DAVIS
He was better
He was correct
Wow this is a great comparison, never thought of it, but absolutely! My parents were older so I grew up on him. 8-track cassettes!
Tell me what kind of artistic thing this man could not do? He's genius!
The most talented man that ever lived.
He had an enormous respect and admiration for Buddy Rich..
Yes they were great friends
If you're not familiar with it already, check out Buddy & Sammy. The sounds of '66.
"Just hold, not talk"... Ich kann nicht mehr! Sammy Du fehlst uns!
There is no one like Sammy Davis Jf. He is multi-taleneted with a beautiful voice that I can't get enough of !
Sammy was and still is the greatest entertainer to ever walk God’s green earth.
Sammy Davis Jr. The embodiment of entertainment.
I recently watched a documentary on Frank Sinatra in which he said Sammy Davis, Jr was the “most talented” member of The Rat Pack. And at that time I don’t recall him playing the drums OR piano. He was simply amazing....an all around showman.
Sammy Davis Jr. was the ultimate entertainer. He was a showman, and a master at everything. I don't think there will be anyone else like him. If he was born in today's times, he would be the ultimate rock star. I coudl see it in his motions and facial expressions.
He could do anything and had serious class.
What couldn’t this guy do. Truly great talent.
There was only one Sammy Davis Jr. Talent Extraordinaire.
Let's see, singer, dancer, actor, played instruments, very skilled performer, pretty much in a class by himself, there will never be another.
Compared to today where you don’t even need a single talent to be a star.
The King of drums rip SIR
No one can compete with Sammy D Jr he’s the baddest 🐱 cat ever there no musician alive like him
Drummer's? Well there's a couple, Carl Palmer, Stewart Copeland etc
Sammy and the Ocean 11 gang were monster entertainers they lived fast hard and large!!!
He was such an underrated fellow. I have watched many videos on which he appears ; it is funny the way Sammy steals the spotlight of Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin and others. Perhaps he was the best entertainer in the business.
he wasnt underrated..he was black which is why he wasnt pushed forward like al the others
Sinatra said he was the most talented person he knew.
Good chance of that. I’d agree he was the best entertainer! He was black though, in those days unfortunately black people weren’t going to steal the light from the white folks. I will say he was LUCKY to have Frank and Dean on his side.
And that sh*t still goes on today. We just went through 5yrs of more racial injustice
I don't think he was underrated. Maybe by today's generation that has never been exposed to entertainment genius and manipulated to believe today's entertainment and music is good. Music aficionados from that era and certainly his peers understood how brilliant he was.
Just beautiful and so talented ❤❤❤❤
To watch him dance is mesmerizing. His awesome sense of rhythm is a thing of beauty. I have watched his dancing videos many times and will continue to do so.
I have always LOVED this guy and I miss him still. IMO, one of the greatest SINGERS of all time. He had that Broadway/Projection/Vibrato/Sound that is really hard to achieve. May he continue to Rest In Peace. 😍
I miss Sammy Davis jr and Dean Martin , loved the way they could joke each and no one ever got offended, good old days
He is more than entertainer, he is artist.
Am i the youngest one here just 9yr but dude HES AN AMAZING MUSICIAN, SINGER, DANCER, AND MORE I Have learned about him at school but only his dancing and instruments which is fascinating! He died just of Lung Cancer! HE DIED TO SOON! HE SHOUKD NEVER DIE HE SHOULD KEEP DOING HIS CAREER AND NEVER STOP!
Jenna Tuazon Tuazon Don't forget actor.
Jenna Tuazon ...Samuel George Davis, Jr. died of throat cancer.

Words cannot express!
one of GREATEST ENTERTAINERs of all time.!
THE greatest entertainer...OF ALL TIME!! NO QUESTION...
Not one he is the greatest of all time. No one does it better. The cat is sooooo versatile
Sammy is the greatest entertainer that has ever lived.
I`ve been listening to his music since I was in short pants. (a long time ago) Always loved the something special he brought to every performance.
He's an amazing jazz drummer and I never knew that!! This is not an armature drummer,I teach drums and he has a lot of talent on this one instrument only one can imagine how frigging great he would've been if he only played and practice drums!!wow
Jerald Cuccurullo LOOK UP MANY CLIPS ON THIS MAN!
Since his Back Ground as a kid was Tap Dancing it kinda makes sense he plays Drums also
My uncle taught Sammy davis jr the drums. Also dance too.. ghey were very good friends..saw many pictures if Sammy and my uncle my Aunts Pretty cool..who has these classic pictures now? I wish I knew.
What? A tech, lol well I'm a drummer since the 80s and Sammy is damn good, you can't do that snare work you're a talker
What a cool cat. Being funny, friendly, loud, talented, and a little sarcastic, just came to him, the Kid was a Natural :).
Been playing drums for 40 years or so. I never realized how great a drummer Sammy was until these videos started popping up on youtube. To me he was as great as Blakey and Philly Jo, and he sounds like a combo of both in this clip. He was as good as anyone. Never knew it. Thanks for the post!
@@chrisljung5137 I don't know if I would say better than krupa but he sure is better the the likes of buddy rich
Sammy era incomparable no creo que hubiere un artista que hiciere todos sus recursos tan perfectos. Artista inigualable
Am I really hearing people say Sammy is a better drummer than Art Blakey and Buddy? You guys are hysterical!!!
@@robsmalls9656 I agree. Yes, Sammy is talented, but better than Blakely or Rich? Not a chance. I have been a drummer for over forty five years and I know how simple it is to drum with basic skills and sound great. The hard part is drumming to complicated music styles in sync with the rest of the band. Like The Who or Rush, or Genesis, or The Buddy Rich Orchestra, or many other of the best of the best bands and musicians. Sammy was an amazing entertainer, of that there is no doubt. But one of the best drummers, I don't think so. He is good though.
@@Dannyt077 you’re taking some really good LSD.
The Man ...❤️
Most of his music was outside my personal wheelhouse, but I've said it before and say it again here: Sam was, pound for pound, the most naturally gifted traditional performer in (then) modern history.
Nobody today is as cool as Sammy was! This was the year's of the greats, today it's a joke
Sammy💕💐💐💐✨
wow what a surprise great jazz drumming this is top stuff i never new he could play like this
All the beautiful ladies adored Sammy. He was so talented with an amazing voice.
Sammy could do just about anything in entertainment! I love that man!
This is a GEM! Thank you!
I believe Buddy Rich gave him a few lessons as well and obviously he loved Buddy and Gene!
Holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never knew he played the drums. Very well also. :D
I love Sammy! He was such a Cool Cat - and so talented! Thanx 4 posting this!
Og, I'm sure you are one cool cat yourself!
Possible thee greatest all round entertainer ever. He could do the lot. Sing, dance, act, comedy, impersonations and also a musician.
Love him ❤
Heaven is seeing the Rat Pack in Vegas in the 60s !!! ;)
époustouflant de swing !
so much talent back then, and i didn't know till i saw these video shorts of these great beautifully talented beings loved them all
Showw👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Just so amazed at the talent from those times compared to now is a joke by a long shot.
Wow, Now this is a True Entertainer... very humble, self-educated.. all around nice guy.
My friends grew up in Palm Springs and as kids there they had to hitchhike quite often. Who else would pick them up real quick Sammy Davis Junior as well as if it was Elvis when stick them up to but that's another story. Sammy was so kind. He gave them each a hundred dollar bill and told them to spend it all in one place as he dropped them off at the garage where they played punk rock. Je had an appt. but said he would come back to give them a listen. I like to imagine him outside their broken down garage "grooving" to what the kids were vibing.
patdon the beginnings of that. I did it with voice recognition. I thought everythin bwas '@¹okay until after i sent it
Thanks for posting. Very valuable stuff.
Yes I Can. (His book) He sure did!
I forget the show, but Sammy came out and played drums, piano, sax, trumpet, sang, danced, and he was excellent at all of them. The trumpet was a Gillespie model given him by Dizzie Gillespie. Excellent actor, too. AND a towering figure in the Civil Rights Movement.
♥️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎶🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵🎵🎶🎵⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Sammy Davis Jr. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You understand his genius, when you are able to speak german, even more!
A singer, an actor, a musician, Mr. Bogangles did it all.
Two entertainers who were also talented jazz drummers that few know about are Bobby Darin (a multi-instrumentalist) and pop singer Bobby Rydell (Don't laugh, Rydell sold millions of records. People forget that fact). Rydell was a drummer before he started singing.
I knew Davis could play drums and it's great that there's a good clip of Sam doing it.
Many entertainers back in the day could do many wonderful things besides what they were famous for. Even talk show host Johnny Carson was a pretty good drummer.
I was surprised at how good a singer he was too.
Even today directors, editors & camera operators don't know how to film musicians. Why would we want a close up of their face when they are working their heart out & displaying their skills, that have taken years to hone? So much music history has been lost due to poor camera work.
The best!Sammy Davis jr
A man of many talents
Wow - I had no idea!
WOW!
He was voted Entertainer of the Century for his all around skills, nobody could top him, Astaire once greeted him with "hello dancer" which was supposedly a high regard back in the old days between hoofers, to which Sammy said, "not when you're around I'm not" and bowed down to him like he did to Gregory Hines at his last event, don't think he kissed his shoes though lol.
Talent in its true form
Wow I've probably known who he is since around this time & never knew he was such a great drummer.
Well done Sammy💗
Sammy was a genious!
Such talent - nice!
True BALL of TALENT!
💜💜💜💜💜
Real legend!!
Mr Davis is a Total Genius !!!
Sammy D, killin it...
"Some of the best musicians in the world are people that nobody ever heard of".
Jo Jones told me that around '71 [That was THE PAPA JO JONES ...]. He was right ...
For me, after a certain level of proficiency, it all comes down to - TASTE, room for
everybody, and EVERYBODY HAS SOMETHING TO SAY ...
Babe Ruth, known for holding that ONE ALL - TIME RECORD for so long, I read some
time ago, that Ruth also held the ALL - TIME RECORD for the most strike outs!!!
True or false - I don't care - Because what I took from that is this: WHEN BABY RUTH
SHOWED UP TO THE BALL PARK, HE CAME TO PLAY ... there was no such thing as a
bad day, a bad pitch, or what have you ... It was all good, a fine way to live ones life I think.
I saw Sammy Davis Jr., on the ole Ed Sullivan Show way back ... He did sing, dance, nor
tell some jokes ... rather demonstrated HOW HE WON THE NATIONAL QUICK-DRAW CHAMPIONSHIP for the second year in a row! He ramaing (for me) in a class by himself.
Many thanks for sharing, and thank you all for your wonderful comments.
Holy F@$k!!! I guess it makes sense? He did more insane stuff with just his shoes!
Dude..i never knew he played
Probably the most talented entertainer of all time-with Mel Torme close behind....
His name is Orley Fudd. From an epusode of The Rifleman. :)
Extremely talented man and loved the comedic way he had. I thought that guy on the lower right was going to be mistaken for a drum!
Okay I quite ashamed of myself for going a majority of my life not knowing how much of a kick ass drummer Sammy was.
Strange looking drum kit, is it a left handed set. The mounted tom is on the opposite side of the bass and looks like floor toms on both sides. Sammy could do about anything he wanted.
Steve Bullard the drummer was left handed but seemed to just switch the snare and floor tom real quick for Sammy.
💎💎💎💎💎
Theres Prince and Sammy Davis Junior.........................................................and then theres the rest.

Todos se burlaban y el sumía ser payaso del grupo de Frank Sinatra pero era un tremendo cantante...y músico...
The Black, Jewish, and glass-eyed Larry Mullen Jr. Rippin' on the skinz, man, really!
eyewitnesses and ear-witnesses
Was there anything he couldn’t do?
