@@dean2663 He was the Greatest Enterainer of all time he could do it all .Sammy started when he was 6 or seven and from that time until the end. he was still the Greatest
I played drums from '60-'67 with a blue sparkle Rogers kit. Sammy Davis Jr was one of my inspirations. There will never again be someone more talented.
I'm sure Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson had some influence on his decision to play Rogers as well. Who knows, could have been Ellis Tollin, a good friend of Buddy's, who convinced Sammy to play Rogers. Ellis talked Buddy into playing them. He also convinced me that Rogers was the set to buy in the mid-60's when he was co-owner of "Music City" on 17th & Chestnut St. in Philadelphia, PA. My set was the Holiday in blue onyx pearl.
Yes an absolute legend that's for sure. I've always thought Sammy was one of the greatest entertainers of all and after watching this clip and another one, where he plays drums and vibes (also on youtube) my opinion of him has only grown even higher. What an amazingly talented performer he was and such an inspiration to us all. I'm also a drummer and Sammy certainly knows what he's doing here.
My hero since I was a child. From the age of 6 to... now. He could jam on other instruments too. He could do it all..and he did. I saw him live seven times from the fifties through the eighties. His life consumed him, finally. But he never gave anything but his best on stage.Thank you, sir
MY striving towards high level tasks needed to see this greatness to continue on and understand and complete my high level tasks. So many great talents of the past suppressed for today's lackeys.
Just a pure natural musician and entertainer....had he devoted himself to just one thing he would have been at the pinnacle of whatever that was. He had his share of adversity in life for sure, but not knowing him he comes off as a guy who just had a ball while he was on this earth.
Now I've seen everything! You want to see everything? Just watch Sammy Davis Jr. He does the works--I mean he does it all. Impressions, singing, dancing, drumming--wow!
The consummate entertainer!!! He could dance, act, sing, do impressions, play drums, trumpet, piano!!!! Can Kanye West (he calls himself a "creative genius")...Ha Ha, wait a minute....I'm choking from laughter! Okay, I'm back! He couldn't even tie SDJ shoes!! Sammy Davis Jr. IMHO was the #1 entertainer of all time.
alot of us feel that way..No dis on many others from back in the day but this cat could do it all at a very high level..Saw him live twice..still to this day two of the best shows i've ever seen..
Never knew that you were an amazing drummer, your solo musically was better than Tony roster Jr and all the other younger drummers that all sound like clones of the great few tasty original player's you show those kids what a true musician and iconic as you still and always will be 😀
My parents both saw him @ the old Sydney stadium Australia back in late 1950s they said he was the best entertainer they have ever seen as well as the 3 bee gees as kids at Labrador hotel Qld near surfers Paradise Queensland!!!!
Modesty and humility immersed in a self confidence which endeared him to every race, religion and ethnic group on the planet. The greatest all around talent and entertainer in the history of the human race. I miss you Sammy
as an aspiring drummer at 10 yrs of age, i remember my parents calling me to watch sdjr on television, playing drums. it was on a period set w/darkened calfskin heads, & image has endured....this cat was "tough stuff" on drums!! another youtube vid w/him & buddy rich "chumming it up" testimony to this righteous talent!! much thanks to poster!
Watching the 'non-drummers' drum is more inspiring than watching the legends. Cause now I can say, 'SHIT, well if Sammy Davis can do it.....' I love that Rogers kit too!
Greatest solo I ever heard, well two Roy Haynes at the jazz educational conference in Long Beach and Stevie Wonder on an album that I forgot the name, so melodic, just when you thought he had nowhere to go...he had somewhere else to go.
You are correct maddymud! Michael Jackson excels at what he does best...but Sammy just excels. He is showing right here why he can play part of the coolest 4 in the world...the rat pack. He's just cool here isn't he? I honestly didn't know he could play the kit this well. Thanks for the video pappyredux!
Came out of diapers onto the stage. But don't kid yourself he put the time in to learn all the instruments he could play. Pretty amazing. Now we have 50 cent.
The Incredible Sammy cuts a rug on more than the dance floor. What a display!!! Thumbs up to SD jr.,you learn something each and everyday on UA-cam!!! Great posting and thanks!!
"Just leave it alone now, I understand what you said. The guy is talented. Leave it at that. He's very talented." -Joe Pesci Goodfellas Very talented indeed. They don't make them like that anymore!!!
I’ve always believed SDJ was the greatest entertainer to ever live. Who else can you think of that can play instruments, sing, dance and act. Not just dabbled in, but excelled in each. He truly was one in a billion and one of my all time favorites.

Most talented man who ever lived. Could dance, act, sing, play the drums. What more do you want? RIP Samula.
He also plays piano,
His tap dancing was tops!
Played the vibraphones too!
This man had more talent in his little toe than most people have in their entire bodies.
That was excellent! Had no idea he was this proficient.
🔥🔥🔥🤝
The best enternainer ever...period!!
Let's see Frank, or Dean do THAT!!!!
he called himself a novice!! wow!

A perfectionist in all levels! A gentle and handsome man! A man for all seasons!
SDJ has more talent than the entire music industry currently put together.
Back when stars made sure they could do anything and everything...........and do it well.
Sammy Davis could do it all and play any instrument without any training he was a Genius and the Greatest all around performer in out Life Time
Brilliant observation , GOAT
Respect! Definitely one of the greatest entertainers ever.
Dancer, singer, comedian, actor, and damn good drummer. Most all-around entertainer probably ever.
"I'm sort of a novice at this sort of thing..." Pretty good technique for a 'novice' ;-)

OK, now that was music! Mr Davis did his thing!!! Clean, not a bunch of unnecessary mess, and that's the way it should be done.
Greatest solo I ever heard, well two Roy Haynes at the jazz educational conference in Long Beach and Stevie Wonder on an album that I forgot the name, so melodic, just when you thought he had nowhere to go...he had somewhere else to go.
You validate your previous statement that it made no sense to you. Not a great solo. And yes, I speak from 30 years of drumming experience.
The greatest.
