    Exhaust sounds great. I saw M.I. 2 with my dad when I was a little kid, and this bike (and my dad) are the reasons I ride sport bikes today. As a little kid, that motorcycle chase scene was the COOLEST thing I had ever seen.

    My dad had bikes all his life, including Triumphs, Nortons, a TriTon (Norton frame-Triumph engine hybrid cafe racer) and even a Vincent Black Shadow, and it's probably because of this I also got into bikes. I always promised myself one of those new Triumphs when John Bloor (LEGEND!) brought them back from the dead and when they first released the 885cc Speed Triple it was instantly love at first sight for me. The single sided swing arm, the unusual and raucous triple engine note, those twin headlights and especially those dummy jet engine air intakes.
    I knew it would take ages until I could afford one as living in London is quite expensive and I'm rubbish at saving money up.
    Seven years ago and after a reasonably advantageous remortgage that we were previously scraping by on proved to have lower repayments and a nice lump sum left over so I hit the ebay and found one. Only it was 450 miles away from London, Alexandria near Glasgow. Now I'm no expert on America but I DO know A, it's a big place and B, 450 miles is just a short hop for you guys, especially Texans! ;-)
    Seven years later and we had the amazing luck to move to Ireland to be near the wifes family and I still have my 955 Speed Triple. I have owned it longer than any other bike I've ever owned and it's been pretty much the most reliable as well. Mine is a 1999 955i but repainted in matt black and has around 42,000 miles on it now and it's still pretty fresh. And it still has the capacity to scare the hell out of me! I have plans as well as most of the parts to restyle it as a sort of rat/survival/super moto/street fighter with Upside Dow (inverted) forks and a fibreglass singe seat bodywork panel that's been adapted to take four 1959 Cadillac taillights with smoked lenses and matt black bezels and all modified to take full LED lamps. It's just a matter of finding the time to nail all the stuff together and also add a pair of raised Cherry Bomb tailpipes. Definitely NOT everyones 'cup of tea' but I'm not building it for anyone else! ;-)
    And if you think my dad was lucky with the bikes he owned, he also got to see his absolute idol, Buddy Holly and the Crickets, when they toured England!
    Good luck with your bike, you've got a winner and a keeper right there!

    Loving my 2001(0) Speedy! Great for commuting, great for chasing the curves, small enough to filter (even when actually illegal), just a great bike all around. I might get rid of my 2021 R1 for a Rocket 3 r. There's nothing bad about this bike, but if looking at more modern bikes, there's certainly better options out there. BUT, I like nostalgia!

    I have the same year model, about perfect fix for me I'm 5'8". Also need to take it out of the city and take it out on the curves, it does a great job. I took 50 MPH rated turns doing 90 and the old suspension is still up to par. The bike has 56k miles now.

    Have a 2001 speed triple bought it brand new back in the day.
    24 thousand miles on it. Has a Carbon Race exhaust on it from Triumph. Love that bike but could have a better seat.

    I have same. I had Race Tec rebuild the forks with gold valves. Cost $700. They tune to your weight. Good upgrade. Has undertail exhaust. Custom semi-clip ons

    I think this was the model Tom Cruise rode in Mission Impossible 2. The only issue with this model I assume, is getting new replacement parts from Triumph.

    • @Makswerks1
      @Makswerks1  3 роки тому

      I have never had an issue getting parts. You often have to go to triumph specific vendors (places like ron ayers dont carry triumph), but otherwise its no big deal.

      That's good to know, because it's been my observation, that the older a bike can get, it may be harder to get parts for such a bike. I knew of a guy who had an early 80s Ducati, who dropped it and it took a long time and search, to get parts for its rebuild. Eventually, he got everything he needed for the bike, but it wasn't a straightforward exercise. He had to settle for a few second hand parts.

      @@kimw200blaze4 The brits are better about it than the Italians. Of course there are probably things you can no longer get new, but in my experience with a handful of triumphs I have never been stimmed. Sometimes the shipping times are longer.

    I’ve got a 2002 speed triple and the first thing that has to be changed is the earthing point to that of the Daytona/street triple also upgrade the loom from the battery to alternator to the same gauge of the other two. This’ll stop the rectifier, alternator, stator plate from burning out and wiring from bursting into flames ! I’m sure they did this on purpose so we as hooligans from riding our bikes as they’re constantly in the fecking garage !

    I like the review - i have the 2002 version (without the "air intakes" on the rear fairing)... I really like your seat, please...what was it, how does it fit, and mods to make it fit etc? Thanks!

    Had the Speedfour for many years and loved it, but secretly I always had wet dreams about the Triple and guess what now After 13 years I’m seriously considering getting the T509 for I just found one in apparently mint conditions here in Berlin…. What do you think, big difference with the 955i? What do you think is to be looked out for when getting a used T509? Any tip from your side would be super welcome man! Thanks for the honest and straight forward content..you’got a well deserved +1subscriber in me/ respect from Berlin

    • @Makswerks1
      @Makswerks1  10 місяців тому

      T509 is 885cc I believe vs the 955 (T595) which is slightly larger. Honestly in good condition these bikes are awesome. Given the age I would probably budget for some fork seals, be wary of tires (age not just tread amount), as well as considering getting a Li battery to save weight and increase crank speed (as these have a fairly hard crank in my experiance)

    congratulations for the review, I wanted to ask you, I bought a 1998 t509, and I wanted to replace the forks with those of the 2001 955 radials, do you think it is feasible? I thank you for the answer. Albert

    Can someone tell me what is the filler container under the passenger seat? I have one of these but no owner manual.

    • @Makswerks1
      @Makswerks1  29 днів тому

      Filler container? There is a coolant catch can on the side Battery lives under the drivers butt, the passenger seat should have a tool kit or empty space there.
