    I consider any day that you drive the boat back onto the trailer undamaged, and you still have the same number of rods and reels that you started with, A GOOD DAY.

    Funny.... love your videos man... but glad your dad was there this time so we could see some fish🤣.
    Seriously, what a beautiful thing to be able to fish with dad. Have a wonderfully blessed day.

    I love how your first trip with the boat was with your Dad , this was my same experience with my new Tracker last year. Took the boat out first time with my Dad , but put the drain plug in the wrong hole in the back of the boat. Parked the truck and came back to my dad standing in water filling up the brand new boat at the dock. Glad I was still able to get the truck down the ramp and the boat out fast. An experience to remember.

    Make sure you squeeze the primer ball. That may be why you had a hard time starting it again. I had a Tracker like yours, great fishing boat. Mine was a 2 cycle and it took me some time to realize I needed to prime it sometimes after it had been shut off for a while. Good luck!

    Make sure your switch is flipped up, also with that motor if you press the button on top of the throttle along with the one at the bottom and push it forward the boat will be in neutral and you can rev the engine to get it warmed up without the boat going anywhere. To take it out of the neautral you pull the throttle back up without pressing any of the buttons and then youre in business!

    I love this video! What a good adventure... even with the quirks, you had a good day, you were safe, you spend time with your dad, fish were caught, and what a cool memory to have! Thank you for sharing your adventure!!! I love your channel and always look forward to the new videos!

    Your first time wasn't perfect but mine was an absolute disaster. The biggest problem was the boat not wanting to start. Livewell fills with water as soon as the boat goes in making it 200 lbs heavier and there was 2 foot waves on the lake that day making water being close to coming on board. The boat finally dies on me before I could get it back on the trailer. When I bought it everything was supposed to be in good working order but it wasn't. I finally fixed everything and it's cool now and I have a lot of fun on it with my family but that day I was scared to death of it sinking so it wasn't a pleasurable experience to say the least

    I had just polished my prop on my 25hp when my dad and I went out in my little 16’ boat. We were cruising in 100’ of water when I hit something that popped the motor out of gear. Continued on like you after a quick inspection. It was a floating limb also, barely subsurface. My dad and I just went in on a 21’ Skeeter this week and haven’t done our maiden voyage yet. I hope it goes better than yours, being out with your dad doing this kind of stuff is irreplaceable though man. I hope you guys still do this.

    Congrat's on the new boat! I just bought my first boat back in June, a 2016 175 TXW. I wish we could get it on the water more often, but there's not a lot of lakes here in the 314/636. We did spend some time on Tablerock and Kentucky Lakes this year though, and it ran like a dream. There's definitely a learning curve when it comes to things like steering up to a dock or back onto the trailer... it's not as easy as it looks, especially on a windy day. At some point, try to upgrade your electronics to one with a chartplotter, like the Lowrance Elite series. You'll then get a much better idea of where the shallow areas are hiding vs. only seeing the depth under the boat. I upgraded to an HDS9 when I bought the boat, and the chartplotter was invaluable on Kentucky Lake.
    Best of luck to you, and keep up the great work on the vid's! Love the creative editing.

      thank you John and congrats on your new boat! those are some great lakes that i'm planning on traveling to hopefully next season, but i definitely agree that i need a new unit at least on the console before I take it out on a lake of that size. thanks for watching!

      Cross the river into the 618 John, handful of nice lakes over here. You're right though, not many places in the 314 to go. I stopped buying a yearly MO fishing license because of the lack of fishable water.

    Everyone has hit something underwater with their boat. Except the Web commandos. You do need a hitch pin though for your trailer. It keeps the ball latch from popping off.

    It happens. I just totaled a boat idling up onto a set of water intake pipes. Pay for insurance! Watching your thumb on the trim: Trim all the way down, hammer down, as the bow starts to break over start trimming up. Watch your rpm and speed. Trim up until you start to lose speed trim back down a touch. Trim is variable with speed. More speed you can get away with more trim up, less speed, trim down.

    Always change your liwer unit oil after a hit like that. Even though there may be no visible damage, there could be a slight crack or pin hole in the lower unit allowing water inside. When you change the lower unit oil, it will be milky looking if water is present. Aside from that, always carry extra sheer pins and invest in an extra prop in case you damage one on the water.

  • @talktolee
    @talktolee 3 роки тому +1

    Biggest thing I can tell you about backing any trailer is...it isn't where it is it is where it is gonna be...just slight turns and almost curve it in. The right approach on backing up is my biggest advice. Also if it is new 'used' boat to you and you aren't 100% on the maintenance done in the past...I would recommend changing the plugs and any filters like the fuel filter for example. Also a decent graph with a lake master chip to mark topography helps a TON. Won't help with stuff like that under water tree but gives you a good reference. let me know if you have any questions about what not to do with a boat because i have made all the mistakes when we got our first boat lol!. P.S. buy a second drain plug for the just in case scenarios...don't ask me why I know this lol.

  • @jameslane2667
    @jameslane2667 6 років тому +1

    The most it would have happened to your lower unit was it would have broke the shear pin it's always wise to carry an extra prop in the extra shear pin good video James KCMO

    Just a helpful tip that so many new boaters overlook. To keep from looking funny while your trying to dock the boat, especially on a windy day, just jump up front and use the trolling motor. I watched a guy try 4 or 5 times to tie off to a dock and each time he just floated away, the I trolled right up to it and stepped off onto the dock. He thanked me.

    In spring, logs, just under the surface, would float down the Otonobee River south of Peterborough, Ontario into Rice Lake, Ontario, where my family had a cottage. Took our 18 ft. runabout with a 150 h.p. motor out first time in the spring. Full throttle and BANG! HIT ONE. Goodbye bottom of motor. Another boat nearby, towed me back to our dock. Dad was NOT happy. Sh*t happens.

    Nick love your videos man. Your editing and angles are fantastic. There is quite a few "just under the surface" trees in that lake. Only fished it a few times for that reason. There are a few lakes north of where you're at that are very good for bass. We should buddy boat some time.

    Congrats on the boat. It looked like you're sonar was losing bottom contact at higher speeds You need to get a unit that has a shoot threw transducer also known as a high-speed transducer. Second study lake maps. A unit with gps is great but in the mean time Navionics makes a great smart phone app for 14.99 a year. It will work just like google maps for lakes but it tells you depths as you go.

      Trackers? They are very well known as "Crackers". If you actually look you'll find that Trackers have loads of issues. Check out the BBB and any fishing/boating forum.
      I know two guys that have owned them. One had a problem with a strange tear in the hull and they found lots of cold welds. Another one of my friends bought a Fisher (another name for a Tracker) and the first day he got it he broke in the motor some and tied it up to his dock. In the morning it was on the bottom of the lake. The dealer found two livewell lines leaking.
      Anyways good luck.

    I'm a new sub. I've seen 3 videos now. I like how you include footage of your human error. It definitely inspires me to keep trying. I'm a notorious skunk. I've lost fishing buddies because they think I'm cursed or something. They have success right up until the time we go out, then nothing while with me. Seriously. It's nice to see that other anglers have non successful days too. I also like that you took your dad out in your boat on her maiden voyage. I believe men should find ways to give back to their fathers as they age. They sacrificed a lot to raise us. Anyway, I'm a sub now. Good content. Thanks!

    Where you hit the tree, need to go west another 30 yards before throttling up. Big flat with lots of stumps. Keep those small crappie, need to get them out of their.
    Also, the island, that used to be a peninsula from the east. I've been asking for buoys to be put their for awhile.
    If you want good scenery shots, go to Kincaid Lake. Theirs a waterfall on southern end.
    You can also go to coffeen lake, can only use main engine to load and unload.

    Buying a used boat is the same as buying a used car. Two - thirds of the time you are buying the previous owner problems. Most of the time (not all) a person will not sell their vehicle, or boat, if its running good and in good condition. The seller will always say that it runs and operates perfect. Then, after you buy it... its then you discover issues and problems with it. Good luck and safe running!
