I used a 6K Pro on a trinity-style rig which I plan to convert from a Zhiyun gimbal to the RS3 Pro. The rig gives me the option of running a v-mount as a counterweight and eliminates the need for the battery grip-which is not rock solid in my experience. I also use a half-cage solution by 8Sinn, which adds mounting points and stability without adding width on the pivot side of the camera. Can’t wait for DJI to start shipping. The quick release alone will be a huge improvement, and the auto lock will make it much easier to control the balance arm when lifting on and off the spring arm.
While I love this new DJI Gimbal, I'm actual the most interested in that battery solution right now, because there was a similar 4 battery 18650 battery solution for one of my old cameras I loved, but sadly it didn't have d-tap or a v-mount bracket. The funny thing is my old battery cost almost the exact same price as this and this has FAR more upgrade potential, and 1850 batteries are super inexpensive to get, and honestly what most devices, including many bigger budget v-mounts use internally. The difference is with a few of these one only needs to replace the 18650 batteries for like $50 and one has a new battery. I'll certainly be picking up a few of these the first chance I get!
What v mount pack and batteries do you use under the base-plate out of curiosity? I'm thinking of going this direction and am curious what you use to achieve it.
Great set up . I like the idea of the 18650 batteries . I try and take as much weight off of the gimbal . I have a v mount battery on my belt clip and a cable running to the gimbal and camera .
Great video! I would love to see how you balance it all, I’m having a heck of a time dialing it in, I have pretty much this exact setup same lens etc. and would love some to see how you do it could really use some help. Balancing my R3 or R5 is easy, this BMPCC pro 6k is another thing.
Love your channel, Michael! I Just picked up a BMPCC 6K Pro and DJI RS3 with the Lidar and Raveneye accessories. I'm new to this whole scene so I was hoping you could suggest an external display and where you would mount it. I filmed some test footage outside and found it really difficult to see the screen of the camera in bright light as well as when at low angles and such. I'm also interested in your thoughts on a mini matte box to help with lens flares. Thanks!
I have the battery grip and saw your video as a solution for getting the focus motor closer to the lens, however, I see that accessory is sold out on B&H! Any advice for a different solution?
Hi Michael, we just got the 6kpro and rs3 pro, but we can't see where I find the quick release you have for the camera battery grip, could you share a link please? Thanks
I have a BMPCC 6K so I'm very interested in this gimbal. You mentioned the extra long base plate, is your RS-3 Pro of a special package? I've been looking on the product website and I can't find any pics of the long plate with the broken down gimbal, and I will definitely need that plate. Thanks for any help!
I believe the lidar system should placed exactly where the sensor is for accurate readings in relation to the camera, not the front of the lens element.
Hello! Tell me, please - is it possible to get a balance with a BMPSS 6K PRO camera in a cage. Does the camera pass on the right side of the gimbal arm? Thank you.
Great video and contents. Because vertical video becomes very popular,is available to purchase a vertical mount for RS3. Can you make a tutorial and review about it please. Thank you
hey,, man i also liked how you did your thumbnail. It looks awesom. This backdrop looks nice, where did you get it from? Or is it realy just surface of your table?
Hi Michael! That stereo mic needs to be allways on front of the lens or you can use it at one of the sides of the camera (some cages have the mic cold shoe at the side) thanks!
Hey Michael, firstly thanks a ton for this video, I have a very similar set up and this video helped me a lot. However I’ve realized that the Zhiyun focus motor extension you mentioned at 7:22 is no longer available, can you help me find something similar?
Can you use the older Dji Ronin S or should I upgrade to Robin 3 Pro? I just want to know if their are cheaper autofocus range finder options, without using my iPhone. Thanks!
I've done a lot of research and this is the combo I've settled on. I'm interested to know about the transmitter. How many external video links does it do? Can others view in from camera phones/monitors? And does it work with Blackmagic interface to control camera remotely? Nice rig.
Amazing video, but I have a question, can we add a v mount battery with rs3 pro for my bmpcc6k and solve the issue of power in both, as well as the camera and gimble? kindly make a video for this, if possible!
From what I gather, you can use a v mount battery to power both the camera and accessories as long as the battery has the correct outputs like USB-C, 8/12V and such. To power the BMPCC 6K, you'll need the SMALLRIG DC5521 to LEMO 2-pin charging cable as the camera can't be powered using the USB-C port. Hope this helps.
Do you know if it's possible to split the HDMI signal before the raveneye so that a feed can be sent to something like an ATEM mixer while using raveneye to track?
Beautiful and sexy rig! But to be honest, the idea of rigging up a gimbal setup makes me feel arms pain already even by hearing it... I really hate gimbals.
Hey thanks for all of the bm6k vids. So I have a rs2 pro package and have been trying to use 6kpro with the battery pack like you have in this rs3pro setup. Were you able to make this setup work on rs2 pro as well or only bm6kpro without battery pack? Can do plenty of movements but then it tips back a lot and can't support all of the weight it seems even with counterweights etc.
So I basically bought everything you had on this list except for I'm running the Irix 21mm Cine but, one of the biggest issues I'm having is balancing this beast of a setup. If it's not too much to ask could you do a tutorial on how to balance this properly? 🙏 Like I got the Lidar set up and everything that came in and did a follow focus test and it's like the motors just give out and the camera collapses forward or backwards depending on position of the gimbal... I just need somebody with more experience to give me some proper direction and what I'm doing wrong.
Ensure battery is fully charged the night before AND also top it up the morning before your shoot. On day one, just balance the camera and lens. Once you have the knack to balance that, try adding accessories. Once I forget to clamp my camera in place on the quick release plate. I eventually noticed the motors were quite hot. The camera had slipped just half an inch but was out of balance. The motors were working hard to keep it balanced. There are UA-cam videos "How to balance a gimbal", one of those will surely contain the hint you need. Enjoy!
Ho. Thank you for your video. I bought this gimbal and I have a 6k pro woth grip. I would like to bought the extention focus with 2 rails and 2 brackets. But it’s no longer available on your link. I try to buy it on photogear but they ask my 66$ for a piece at 15$… I fins since few days… Do you have any other link to buy it?
Damn. We need to get our hands on this thing haha finally a DJI RS gimbal that can handle the 6K pro without a million counter weights and you can have it pretty rigged out!
Thank you! Question: if I have BMPCC6K + Battery grip + Full cage (Smallrig), is it possible to mount on RS3 pro? As I understand it is two separate problems, mount a camera and balance it on the gimbal. If I can mount the camera, most probably it is possible to balance it, is it correct?
With the battery grip and a sigma 18-35 lens I find it impossible to balance correctly. It becomes far too back heavy. Would love to know if there's a solve for this!
how do you measure the Focal Plane to the Lidar front for calibration since the camera doesnt have a marker? I think I read somewhere that the BMPCC 6K sensor is 44mm from EF flange. Is this your understanding?
The pocket camera do have the marker. It’s on the top right of the camera. Looks like a circle with a line through it. If you have a cage on the camera most of them block it.
Can you use the DJI LIDAR module for other uses with the BMD Pocket 6K Pro such as to associate video data with captured LIDAR data to help build 3D models of home/building interiors (for example), similar to with Matterport cameras?
Regarding the Zhiyun battery pack, you mentioned that you used the phone mount that "the gimbal" comes with... was this something that came with the RS3 gimbal, or did you take this from your previous Zhiyun gimbal? Thanks so much man, I'm just getting into gimbals and all of this is quite overwhelming! Lol
Michael, so when you calibrate the LIDAR, do you calibrate it 1 and 4 meters from the LIDAR device or from the glass of the lens? Great video BTW. This is gonna be awesome for my Ursa mini Pro 12k.
It’s from the LIDAR. The nice thing is IT knows what’s 1 and 4 meters away so you don’t need to measure it yourself. It just has you go those distances and then focus on the subject. It’s hard to explain over text. I may do a super quick tutorial video
Didn't see the link for the specific Kondor Blue Quick Release you're using for the black magic 6k pro, what's a good link to find it? I looked on their site but not sure which of the plates is the correct one for BM 6K Pro. Thank you!
Quick important question. When connecting the Vmount battery to the camera to power up, do you ever find yourself having to rebalance the set up again? Or is it light enough to connect and continue shooting?
The v mount battery isn’t attached to the gimbal part of the setup or atleast the motor part it’s on the handle. So that wouldn’t throw off any balances. But if you’re talking about the cable throwing of balance that’s also a no. I haven’t had any issues and can attach/detach the cable without messing with balance
Maybe it could. Someone balanced a RED raptor. I’m not sure the dimension difference. I know the Ursa 12K balanced perfectly on my Crane 3S which has a bigger max payload and much larger arms.
@@initialfocus Yes, I have balanced Ursa Mini on Crane 3s, but in the end overal setup was too heavy for my arms. So I am looking foward to get info about Ursa Mini + Ronin RS3 Pro.

I prefer to mount a V-mount pack under the camera plate, as it makes it easier to balance the BMPCC out. Otherwise, good build.

Nope. In the gimbal settings it has you measure the distance from the sensor marker to the front of the LiDAR so it can calculate the distance.
Very impressive and extremely neat.
Where is this Big Cinematic Video he mentions at the very beginning?
