    Brother, I've been searching like one week to balance my gimbal for my heavy 16-35mm lens. If I didn't find this channel, I will be not balancing my gimbal perfectly. Thank you so much for the precise explanation brother. You deserve more likes and views for this. 💯

    Amazing video! You explained everything perfectly. Quick question, I have not seen anyone balance a camera with a mic yet. I have a Sony a7iv with a 16-35mm G master lens and a NDI filter attached with a Rode VideoMic Pro+ sitting on top. I want to buy the RS3 Gimbal. Do you think I would be able to properly balance the camera with this set up? Thank you

    • @AlexJCheung
      @AlexJCheung  6 місяців тому

      It's much harder and probably impossible to balance the Rode VideoMic Pro+ on top of the camera because it adds too much "height" to the camera and won't be able to clear the roll axis in the back when you're balancing the tilt axis. And if you're doing underslung shots, the roll axis will constantly hit the mic on top. You'd have to mount it off to the side to potentially be able to balance/use it properly. The other option that I've experimented with is using the Rode Wireless Me or Wireless Go mics and clipped it onto the camera hot shoe. Because the Me/Go mics are so small, it doesn't add any weight, and you'll have an easier time balancing it on the gimbal. That being said, if you're not planning on doing a lot of movement on the gimbal, specifically underslung shots, then you shouldn't have toooo much of an issue when you have the Rode VideoMic Pro+ mounted on the top of the camera. Let me know if this makes sense!

    Man... i forgot to buy a V Mount plate to attach to the side of the gimbal for all my peripherals. So I used the run n gun plate that mounts at the battery at the back of the camera. Balancing that was fun with the RF 24-105 2.8 on the front. 😑

    Thanks for this. I watched another video and they did the camera back/forth slider for tilt first and then the up/down slider for tilt second. I couldn’t get my camera to balance this way. Switching the order to do the up/down tilt adjustment first made it easy to balance. It might work the other way with different lenses/bodies, but not for me. Nikon Z9 with a 24-70mm F2.8S and NISI filter/hood.

    • @AlexJCheung
      @AlexJCheung  Рік тому

      Yeah, those two steps for balancing the tilt arm can be interchangeable. Depending on your camera setup, it might be easier to do the up/down adjustment first, and then baseplate adjustment second 👍

    Will it be possible to balance the Sigma 14-24mm 2.8 on the Canon R8 body? The lens is 1150 grams and the camera is 460 grams. Please remember that there will also be an adapter that will move the lens forward. What do you think about it?

  • @ishanagarwalphotography

    those small side handles are better then the dual handle bigger handle these smaller handle must be giving better control

    • @AlexJCheung
      @AlexJCheung  9 місяців тому +1

      I really like the smaller handles better because when I'm gripping them, they're perfect at shoulder width apart. When I use the bigger dual handles, they're too wide causing me to use too much shoulder which tires me out faster. But someone with bigger hands would probably not like the smaller handles haha

    Have you attempted to balance canons new rf 24-105 2.8? I just picked i picked up that lens after renting the rf 24-70 2.8 and this monster won’t balance. Thinking I’m going to have to also ipgrade to the rs3 pro and getting that longer base plate. I thought I seen somewhere the arms were longer on the rs3 hoping that this will work

    • @AlexJCheung

    heyy i have a rs2pro combo which i got for canon 5Diii recently got my R5C with RF 15-35L is there a huge difference in rs3pro and rs2 pro combo is the balance quicker and weight wise is rs3pro heavier ?

    • @AlexJCheung
      @AlexJCheung  9 місяців тому +1

      I've never used the RS2 Pro unfortunately, so I'm not sure about the quicker balancing. But the specs on B&H Photo say that both gimbals are very similar, 2.5lb/1.17kg. Hope that helps!

    • @AlexJCheung
      @AlexJCheung  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi! I think if your lens isn't super heavy like a 24-70, then you should be able to mount the A60 on there no problem. I've done it on mine and have had no issues although it does come quiiittee close to touching the roll axis haha

    If you have an external monitor, do you balance the camera unit first then attach the hdmi? Or balance everything first?

    • @AlexJCheung
      @AlexJCheung  8 місяців тому +1

      Great question! Attach the HDMI first before balancing. Once you attach the HDMI, it'll throw off the balance of the rig. Even though it's a minor thing, if you did that for every attachment, it'll add up over time. Let me know if that helps!

    one way to test if everything is balanced is to unlock all axis and rotate the camera in any direction (tilt front+ roll left for example), if the camera stays still then you succeeded.

    Hi, I just got my RS3 Pro and I can't seem to disable the RS3 control of the gimbal to balance it. What I mean is that I cannot make the gimbal go floppy so I can balance it. When its off its in folded up mode and when its on, its constantly trying to level itself. Do I need to press something to release it? Thanks

    • @AlexJCheung
      @AlexJCheung  3 місяці тому

      All you need to do is unlock the gimbal using the little black unlock switches on the arms of the gimbal. Don't actually turn on the gimbal itself. When you unlock the gimbal via the arm switches, you can unfold the gimbal and then relock the arms in order for you to have an easier time balancing the whole thing. Let me know if that helps!
