Thank you! Saved me a lot of time! 😊👍
good man
Thanks bro
Thank you
Thanks, I'm a newbie
If I told a non metal fan to listen to vulgar display of power they would probably block my number. It’s super intense.
I’ve been a metal head for 40 years now and I’ll remain one till the day I die.🤘
All of this is true, except for Vulgar Display Of Power. You have to get into metal way more to listen to that album. I own it, and trust me, it is NOT for everyone.
Would’ve said Cowboys before Vulgar, but that’s just me.
Before being introduced to them off of "Vulgar" by a friend around 1998, I listened to rap and pop; I was very quickly converted after the first listen through
@@thepot462 fair enough. I realize not everyone is the same, and some may prefer Vulgar, while others may not for a first listen through.
@@bMt5553 I wasn't replying to you, I meant it as an intro to metal as a genre itself
i agree, mouth for war and a new level are totally not beginner tracks. phil's vocal style can also come off as too screaming and aggressive
Quiet Riot’s “Metal Health” and Twisted Sister’s “Stay Hungry” were the first two Metal albums I ever bought. They should’ve been included, especially since “Metal Health” was the first Metal album to be #1 on the pop charts.
So many missing, but I agree it’s tough. Two that for me are really missing in this list are Holy Diver from Dio and Operation:Mindcrime from Queensrÿche
The Number of The Beast is the perfect way to convert anyone. When i was a kid back then, i was immediately hooked the very first time i saw that album cover.
Same , it's such a great one . When it comes to iron maiden, I been lucky to see them play a few of songs on that album on there book of souls tour with ghost a couple of years ago.
Woe to you 'o earth and sea...
@@doctornova3015 seeing it perform live is truly a amazing experience. Iron maiden has so much energy when it comes to there performance.
@@Reaperguy67 yeah I saw them on book of souls. I have an uncle ( same guy that turned me onto NOTB in the first place) that saw them in '82 when Beast came out.
@@doctornova3015 that's awesome
Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park should've been on the list
💯
I would’ve bet good money that HT would’ve made this list. Honestly, it can take Around the Furs spot. HT is just more accessible imo.
But that's not metal.
@@rensou82 Yes it is, it’s Nu-Metal, albeit a Diet version of Nu-Metal.
I'd say keep both HT and ATF, and replace Van Halen, Megadeth, or (possibly blasphemously) Pantera - I feel, for as amazing as Pantera and Vulgar both are, a LOT of people aren't going to vibe with the heaviness (although that groove, "the MONEY riff...", does incredible things) and the vocal style Anselmo employs. Nah, get rid of Van Halen for HT - Pantera are just too good.
Once by Nightwish was also a bizarre choice - if I'm picking a Finnish band, I'm picking HIM. If I'm picking a Nightwish album for this purpose, I'm picking Dark Passion Play as I think 'normies' would vibe better on Anette Olzen's vocal style than Tarja Turunen's operatic style
I'd also say Prequelle over Meliora for a Ghost album... And I do like people being 'scared' by Slipknot though, particularly vocally - that's a ridiculous concept to me... I just have to mention slam bands to people I work with for a reaction lol (like Mutilation Barbeque).
Deafheaven's black metal vocals aren't going to appeal to non-metal peeps. At all.
There. That's my (long-winded) say. lol
When I was in junior high school everyone had a copy (often a literal copy) of Def Leppard's Pyromania. It was everywhere.
Ronnie James Dio's Holy Diver should have been on the list. It's a masterpiece!
Im glad nightwish is on this list. I’m a huge fan of symphonic metal ❤🤘🏽
Same , I been listening to night wish since there first singer . When it comes to them , I have personally seen them live in st Petersburg Florida. They are amazing live 🤘
Same! Once was one of the first cds I've ever bought, and I still have it to this day. Personally, Gothic Metal is my favorite style, but symphonic is a close second. Nightwish and Epica are what got me into the genre.
@@Crixon100 epic is really amazing as well. Also check out vision of Atlantis. They use duel vocals on there songs . Also the dark element is really good as well.
Deep purple - Machinehead....what happen to Highway star and Smoke on the water??? I know you passed on it
Aren't they more "hard rock" than metal / heavy metal ?
The Number of the Beast is the perfect album to get someone into metal. It has everything, great song with sing along choruses, big riffs and imagery to top it off 🤘
Pretty good list but I would've included Dio's Holy Diver in there and possibly a Queensryche album somewhere. Other than that, I like it!
Absolutely, Dio's clean vocals and the riffs are an excellent introduction to what metal music is. Queensrych I would say is also good, Operation Mindcrime is my favorite of their and one of my favorite albums of all time. Many complicated sections and great riffs/breakdowns. Geoff Tates vocals of course bring it all together brilliantly.
Paranoid was the album that converted me.
Love Nightwish. Their music is amazing.
This list is great!!!! I love the diversity of sounds that you picked because I’m afraid I would stick to just a sound or two but you guys touched on them all. Although GNR should be higher because that album made it cool to listen to metal to fans who lumped poison into this category
Man what doesn't Watch Mojo cover?! I really enjoyed this one. I was subject to many of these great albums by my dad who I'd love to show this video!
I have been with the same man for 20 years and so I have heard every Iron Maiden and Nightwish album. With splashes of Pantera, Metallica and Judas Priest here and there.
For someone who is more into classic rock and pop, I have to admit that metal with any of the aforementioned bands is very easy to enjoy.
Who else clicked solely because Maidens Number of the Beast was the thumb? That was my first heavy metal ...wait for it...cassette tape. Also was my first concert ever is 1983 the NotB tour. Still have the 3/4 sleeve shirt. Life was so much simpler then.,
I'm not sure if Shinedown qualifies as metal, but my 2 favorite albums of theirs are Sound of Madness and Threat to Survival.
Disturbed also has some great songs (most are from the album Immortalized): The Light, Who Taught You How to Hate, and....the cover song that is actually better than the original (imo) Sound of Silence.
If Guns 'n' Roses count then Shinedown definitely counts!
Nice to see Avenged Sevenfold on the list! City of Evil is an amazing album
Was definitely expecting Opeth's Blackwater Park which they did display in the outro. It is the definitive Prog-Death Album with probably the most balance of heavy & soft, fast & slow, and headbanging & melancholic. The songs are just complex enough to not deter casual listeners but intrigue people who wanna explore more.
I dabbled in metal in early 80's but was fully converted in 1984 with the releases of Powerslave and Defenders of the Faith. Haven't looked back since.
Hells yeah. Just what I need. Thanks WatchMojo. My day just got ten times better.
I LOVE Power Metal the MOST... especially for not being a big metal head for the MOST part in general per se.
Watchmojo finally acknowledges Ghosts existence
Thank you for including Nightwish
Of the ones listed here, I'd go with your number 1 pick of Metallica. For ones not listed here, I'd have to go with the Ten Thousand Fists album by Disturbed. Thanks for putting this all together, mates!
Great suggestion! I still remember the day my college roommate and I purchased Ten Thousand Fists from Walmart and cranked it up on the way back to the dorm.
Great video. But I either already had the album (Iron Maiden), or didn't like it (most of the rest). With one exception - Once by Nightwish. I was not familiar with this band ( I should have been because Troy Donockley is a current member and I have a lot of his stuff). Suddenly Nightwish is one my favourite bands, thanks to this video.
Id suggest the Last Stand by Sabaton. Very epic lyrics, amazing production and excellent power metal sound
I was coming in here, expecting not to see Nightwish's 'Once', but there it was, so well done!!! Needs more Devin Townsend though....
Or Within Temptation, but no denying some angelic Tarja vocals !!
As soon as they list Baroness, I'm sure they'll add some Devin.
Great job on the list however I have a few honorable mentions.
Tool. Aenima
Korn. Self titled or Follow the leader.
Sleep Token. Take me back to Eden.
Soundgarden. Super Unknown
I would add these:
Highway to Hell - AC/DC
Empire - Queensryche
Vivid - Living Colour
Facelift - Alice In Chains
Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park
Theater of Pain - Motley Crue
No Tool?????
@williamsummerson. Superunknown isn’t a Metal album.
Soundgarden’s more heavier albums are Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger
Those two albums are more Metal.
Any hair metal album, considering that hair metal is "metal" for people that don't like metal.
Thx for Tool❤
Nightwish is an underrated band. Their blend of heavy metal and opera are ingenious and pleasant to listen to.
The first Montrose album.
Hybrid Theory was missing also Mötleys Dr Feel Good, and Evanescence’s fallen otherwise pretty good list
Other albums that deserve at least honourable mentions are;
Falloch - Where Distant Spirits Remain
Ice Nine Kills - The Silver Scream
Black Reuss - Metamorphosis
In This Moment - Black Widow
Electric Callboy - Tekkno
Parkway Drive - Reverence
Sinamore - A New Day
Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done
Accept - Balls To The Wall
Amaranthe - The Nexus
Battle Beast - Battle Beast
Within Temptation - Hydra
I'll agree with Number of the Beast, Blizzard of Oz (Personally No More Tears) and Paranoid but no mention of Highway To Hell or Back in Black? Highway to Hell, Shot Down in Flames, Beating around the Bush, You Want Blood (You've got it), Back In Black, Hells bells, Shoot to Thrill, What Do you do for Money Honey are all great songs that got me into heavier bands. I'd also agree with Holy Diver as a good introduction since Holy Diver got me into Iron Maiden. Another one that got me into metal was Hysteria by Def Leppard. I'd also add Going To Hell By the Pretty Reckless.
YES! Nightwish made the list! I've actually used this album to get people interested in metal!
Dream Theater is still going 40 years later. Incredible band!
Metallica has some great songs from their discography: “Enter Sandman” from the band’s self-titled album, “One” from _…And Justice for All,_ and “Orion” from _Master of Puppets._
The entire ...And Justice for All album was awesome! My fave song, though, is The Thing That Should Not Be!
hell yeah City of Evil! im not a metal fan but thats a top 10 album for me
What the Dead Men Say by Trivium is phenomenal. I also love the two Silver Scream albums by Ice Nine Kills.
Yeah, you need this list.
Hell yeah! I got into INK recently and I love them already!
I think pretty much any Scorpions album from Lovedrive to Crazy world is a good start. My personal recommendations are Animal Magnetism, Blackout and Love at First Sting. Also Pearl Jam's Ten and Nirvana's Nevermind are also good starters.
I agree 100% with the Scorpions references, but the title of the video says “Metal Albums”. Pearl Jam and Nirvana are NOT Metal!!
@@BRO77TX Neither is Alice in Chains, but that's still on The list.
Top albums 🖤 🤘
Comalies by Lacuna Coil would be a good honorable mention
Deafheaven being on this list and so high up is kinda wild tbh. I like the band, it’s just not something I would show someone who isn’t into metal.
Love Heavy Metal Music !
Sepultura!!! Chaos AD or Roots... one of those should definitely be on this list
still to this day im finding new bands in the metal/metal subgenres that i enjoy like amaranthe, arch enemy, dimmu borgir, municipal waste and many others i have discovered over the years. either from word of mouth, suggestions from friends or through streaming services
Deliverance's Learn was my breakthrough metal album
some good choices but I'd like to add Trivium-the crusade and Machine Head-The Blackening for getting people into the genre as well
I wouldn't play SOAD to somebody who doesn't like metal, SOAD is some hard stuff
In Flames' Sounds of a Playground Fading or I; The Mask. Communic's Waves of Visual Decay. Helloween's Keeper of the Seven Keys 1,2, and Legacy.
Def Leppard, Nirvana, and Iron Maiden
The three bands you see everyone wearing, even though they don’t know who tf they are 😂
I never wear a band t shirt without at least knowing some of the songs. Its just etiquette :) But I've been into metal for over twenty years(I was a late bloomer) and later got into the more underground Metal. Sadly, yeah the t shirts became a bit of a fashion icon but if you notice they tend to be the mainstream ones. You'd be hard pressed to find a teen wearing a Deicide or Darkthrone t shirt without them knowing at least ONE of the albums from each.
I wear an Iron Maiden tee shirt and I know who they are. I've bought every album from The Number of the Beat on release date, thank you very much.
Nirvana please 😂😂😂😂😂😂🔥
@@starscreamthecruel8026 agreed, though one time I saw a kid wearing a Smashing Pumpkins shirt and he knew exactly who they were, and this was like a popular kid too
I’m friends with a lot of kids at my school as well, but not many of them know I’m a big grunge/alternative geek
I would say this is more true for Nirvana, since they sell their shirts at places like target, but I'd say iron maiden and def Leppard fans would be more educated.
You could introduce non-Metal fans to any Iron Maiden album. They are so versatile!
Absolutely, and after 40 something years they still got it. I'm amazed every time I listen to them that they still keep cranking out bangers.
RUST IN PEACE better be at the top of this list or near the top
Awesome album but nope.
It isnt, but van halen sure is. Make it make sense.
I don't like van halen...
@EliRicke-xl9mw i dont dislike them but I wouldnt call them metal.
I’ve been a metalhead for 16 years now, long live metal and rock. Thanks dad for introducing me to good music.
One album I’d put on the list is the one you played during the outro - Opeth’s “Blackwater Park.” Opeth is the band that opened up the world of death metal vocals to me.
Also, where is Dio’s “Holy Diver?”
Holy Diver, one of the best metal / heavy metal album ever.
Well you WatchMojo proved me wrong about Pantera being on this list. I am genuinely shocked
Accept...Balls the the Wall.
As an OG metalhead, most of the are after my time. 1965-1994 were the the glory days of music.
Scorpions - Blackout,
Twisted Sister - Still Hungry
Quiet Riot - Metal Health
Babymetal - Babymetal
How the hell did Deafheaven make this list? I feel like there are 100s of albums that are more accessible.
I converted my wife to metal by going to extremes right away. Emperor's 'In the Nightside Eclipse' was her ticket to being hooked.
Nativity in black. Cover album got me into metal😅
This is music for all time🤘
Another good option could be Infest The Rats' Nest by King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. The band has experimented with lots of very varied genres and styles, but their metal albums are some of their best! I think ITRN is quite accessible for non-metal fans
Megadeth's Youthanasia should have been on this list instead of Peace Sells. It's the only album that I own that I can play from start to finish, and I never skip a track. Ozzy's No More Tears being a close second in that category.
Honestly I agree, Youthanasia is SO slept on, and much more easy listening than Peace Sells. Personally I like Youthanasia more. Peace Sells I feel is kind of overrated.
M. Shadows didn't tone down the screaming by choice on City of Evil. He blew out his vocal cords on Waking The Fallen and has to have surgery
No "October Rust" by Type O Negative?
I think Rust In Peace by Megadeth, would be more accessible for those unfamiliar with the sound.
Would absolutely agree, tornado of souls was one of the first metal songs I heard. I can still remember the day, he blasted the song and I said "what's wrong with his voice??" And he said "you'll get used to it" God knows I did. Once they get used to Dave's voice they will fall in love with the album.
People that don't like metal I highly doubt will listen to any of these 😂
Utsu-P Greatest Hits and Algorythm (i love them both and i'm not a metalhead)
Talking about Randy whilst showing footage of Jake E Lee. That's Mojo
Alice Cooper's "Poison" would convert some people. Definitely, "No Rest for the Wicked" and "No More Tears" from Ozzy. Any album from Maiden. You will laugh, but Europe album "Final Countdown", is a place to start to enjoy this never-ending awesome metal road. Pantera or Rage Against the Machine are awesome, but it's not for the civilians--yet.
The song that got me into heavy metal, is the song One. by Metallia. From the album, ....And Justice For All.
A timeless classic
No Dokken? Ratt? Motley Crue? Whitesnake? White Lion?
No Queensryche? Sacrilege! 😳😋🤘
Sorry but real metal fans know that hair bands do not qualify. That being said those bands were awesome in their own right and in their own genre.
@@rightlydividedI hear ya, but I was thinking they'd be a good entryway to the more Classic or Heavy. My first Rock station back in the 80s in Orlando FL played it all ! Seemed to work pretty well. (then they threw in Alternative like The Fixx and AFlock of Seagulls because they had no other place to go at the time. Was on pretty awesome actually imo)
WDIZ Rock 100 😎🤘
@@rightlydividedHair metal is metal for people that don't like metal.
I doubt any of these are going to convert die-hard Air Supply or Barry Manilow fans.... Though, that's a tough task....
Probably the closest you might get is Pat Boone's "In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy", though the (largely) big band arrangements, won't induce any head banging elsewhere.
Dare you attempt a list of the top 20 soft rock albums for those who despise soft rock?
Something along the lines of the compilation "'70s Party Classics/Killers", but without brainwashing them?
21:07 Of course, Watchmojo had to pick Metalilca's well-known album.
The Black Album is good but, for people who aren't into the metal genre, I would recommend "Ride The Lightning" or, my personal favorite Metallica album,"Master of Puppets".
"Fade to Black" off Ride the Lightening was and still is my favorite song of theirs!
😎🤘
Judas Priest, Screaming for Vengeance.
Freaking ❤Metal Music and Pantera 🤘😜🤘!!!!
Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell record is just a straight forward good rockin' time.
The title for this video is very misleading. Those who don't like metal will gravitate to songs that are very commercialized like ballads, but will not like the rest of the album.
Deftones .. Change (house of flies!)
I usually convince non-metal-heads that metal is not only heavy noise (like machines), screaming and grunting by let them listen to bands like Nighwish, Xandria, Ancient Bards etc. and then - when they have survived this shock - to Power, Progressive and sometimes even Thrash Metal. That often works very well. 😊
I'm not much for metal but l do have some luv for the mother of metal Rob Helfort of Judas Priest. Turbo lover indeed! 🤟
I gotta give you guys credit. No bad picks on this countdown. Only debates would probably be if other albums by the bands on here should’ve been selected.
megadeth countdown to extinction. cool 😎
I would add the album Ziltoid The Omniscient by Devin Townsend. It's one of the few heavy metal albums that's both comedic and kid friendly fun. Who wouldn't love a story about an intergalactic alien who's search for the ultimate cup of coffee to help power his omnidimensional spaceship?
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime definitely deserves on this list.
One of my favorite albums of all time, couldn't count on my finger how many times I've listened to it, gold from front to back💯💯
What about for Sabaton?
I can't ever consider such a ranking without Tool-Aenima.
I love metal, vulgar display of power is one of my favourite albums, fucking hostile is essentially my theme song.
People who do not like Metal music, probably does not like electric guitar or the drums either. Here are some albums by Metal albums you might like:
Sonata Arctica - Acoustic Adventures Volumes 1 & 2
Helloween - Unarmed
Elvenking - Two Tragedy Poets (...And a Caravan of Weird Figures)
Powerslave - Iron Maiden
On Your Feet Or On Your Knees, by BOC, or The Black album by Metallica.
HELLOWEEN - Keeper Of The Seven Keys (PART 2).
