Hi
AC/DC executed “Thunderstruck” so well!
the final countdown by europe
I'm surprised that Pantera's "Walk" is not in the top 10, WatchMojo.
ok, like 4 of those songs/bands should not even be on the list, period. and, no G&R at all?? come on dude!
You can't kill the metal ...metal will live on 🤟
I was gonna post that lol gs u beat me
Damn it lol 🤘
a fellow Tenacious D fan, I see.
It always finds a way 🤘
I'm surprised they didn't mention the legend of the rent. It was way hard-core!
Accept - Balls To The Wall
Anvil - Metal On Metal
Saxon - Wheels of Steel
Helloween - I Want Out
Diamond Head - Am I Evil?
King Diamond - Abigail
Exodus - The Toxic Waltz
Rob Zombie - Dragula
All these should be in. From bands you put but you picked the wrong song:
Pantera - Walk
Motley Crue - Kickstart My Heart
WASP - Wild Child (or Blind In Texas. Still really happy to see them making the list, WASP is one of the most underappreciated bands)
Megadeth - Holy Wars (but I prefer Tornado Of Souls all day)
Dio - Holy Diver (top 3)
Metallica - Master of Puppets (close one with Creeping Death and For Whom The Bell Tolls)
Judas Priest - You've Got Another Thing Comin'
My Top 10:
10. Metal Health (Bang Your Head)
9. Walk
8. Balls To The Wall
7. The Number Of The Beast
6. War Pigs
5. Raining Blood
4. Master of Puppets
3. Holy Diver
2. Ace of Spades
1. Crazy Train
YOU PICKED "WALK" WHEN YOU COULD'VE PICKED "CEMETERY GATES", BRO?!?!?! 😩
“Look in my eyes! What do you see?
The cult of personality.”
-“Cult of Personality,” Living Colour

#1: Black Sabbath- War Pigs (1970)
thank you
@@ajthespooky2330 You’re welcome
A true hero
I am proud to say im 23 and i have heard most of these. All of these and fucking great songs
u forgot to include warpigs year
Witnessing "Final Countdown" live in it's prime was something that cannot be explained.
Your first mistake is thinking Europe is heavy metal.
@@kdryan21 And yours is to blame the wrong person. Galactus did not make this list.
And.the explanation "Metal" is.very wild...when you look at the release date the final countdown is "very hard" scorpions aren't very harder than Europe
@@TheMelody911 Ozzy Osbourne is classed as metal, yet songs like Dreamer are beautiful.
@@kdryan21 exactly
I want out - Helloween
Fighting the world - Manowar
Balls to the wall- Accept
Sirens- Savatage
Hard as iron- Judas Priest
Hello from the gutter- Overkill
Phobia- Kreator
Neon Knights- Black Sabbath
Black diamond- stratovarius
Black metal- Venom.
Sirens is great but I thought 'Hall of the Mountain King' would make it for sure.
Heavy metal forever!
Hell yea
🤘🤘🤘
thankfully, Metal lives on to this day in other countries. Look up bands like Lordi, Battle Beast, Sabaton, Powerwolf, and Nightwish.
@@dragonmaster613 i love Powerwolf! Mayhem and Rammstein included
🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Many of these bands gained their fame without radio play which is what hooked me!
Dee Snider got LOADS of free publicity out of all that. And the fact that he's articulate and smart in all his responses was awesome.
In all honesty I never considered "The Final Countdown" as a heavy metal song. Always thought it was a weird pop song
The Final Countdown is definitely not a pop song but I agree that it's not exactly heavy metal. It's more hard rock.
I remember when it came out. (Now I feel old!) Europe was more akin to bands like Warrant or Cinderella. Not overly heavy but heavier than the mainstream rock was back then. My friends and I put it in the hair metal genre. *shrugs*
and what is weird about it
@@RockLegend2000 It's a pop song.
Europe would be glam/hair metal
A good chunk of these are are more hard rock songs than outright heavy metal.
Agreed, so many songs and artists, that while great, are not metal. Hard rock at a push.
I wouldn't mind hearing a metal version of The Final Countdown though.
@@EnigmaTimGaming Leo Moracchioli does a metal cover of it. Not one of his best, but it's still a fun listen.
Most are more hair/glam metal, but definitely not heavy metal
Pleasant surprise seeing Manowar on this list. Warriors of the World is an underrated power metal banger.
My choice for a Manowar anthem woulda been "Kings of Metal": "Now we don't attract wimps, because we're too loud. Just true metal people, that's Manowar's crowd!"
However, my fave song is "Bridge of Death"... TOTAL DOOOOOOMMM!
I agree fully.
Love the fact that Watchmojo chooses to make lists on heavy metal music in this current pop dominant world... A remainder that Watchmojo is universal, and metal never dies
what do you mean? some songs here are not even metal
As the name of a U.D.O song says, “Metal Never Dies!”
Still head banging at age 53
Turnin' 50 this year with no plans to stop.
@@thezombie7839 join with me in head banging jamboree buddy
Metal is without age! I know people 20 years older and younger than me who all like it
I’m 48 years old and I’ve been head banging since I was 13 years old.
Yep, l am an Aussie 53 yr old metalhead. Still love Everything LOUDER than everything else!!
Yes, all of these songs are ripe for singing along to at the tops of your lungs! "Round and Round" has always been an underrated tune, in my opinion.
I like both the original and the cover by dope
This track gets plenty of airplay on our local classic rock station. Just heard it the other day and was rocking out in my Toyota Prius. Lol
I love the whole "out of the cellar" album from Ratt myself.
Yep Ratt are definitely underrated
Slayer's 'Reign In Blood' wasn't released in 1996 but 1986.
I was just rewinding to see if I heard that correctly.
There are a few mistakes in this video like that one misnaming Tony Iommi.
@@AntonXul Indeed. It also seemed as if they called Sabbath's debut album "All Doom and Gloom", but I'm not sure if that was meant as a descriptor or is another actual mistake.
Thanks for letting us know, that was a typo that was read. Our bad. Appreciate you mentioning!
@@AntonXul Thanks for letting us know about the mispronunciation.
About the Black Album, Lars said it best when they won the Grammy: "thsnk God Jethro Tull didn't come out with a new album!" 😂
I'm surprised that Pantera's "Walk" is not in the top 10, WatchMojo.
CFH is probably a more "classic" metal song. Walk is probably too heavy for this list.
Cowboys from hell is a better anthem.
i learned about the band when i searched Broly theme song from DBZ xD ''10's'' is called the song
Same. Like the entirety of the song like the riff, baseline and the lyrics is badass. And even the lyrics is like a f you to the establishment.
@@BruzoDragonius It's the heavier version of "We're not gonna take it".
I always thought Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55" should be recognized as a serious rock anthem.
'There's only One Way to Rock' would be a better pick.
@@kdryan21 or Heavy metal from the movie soundtrack
Hair of The Dog by Nazareth is another omission.
I was hoping Play with Me by Extreme would be here as well.
@Paul N love that scene in Bill and Ted's exellent adventure. Love that song, don't much care for anything else Extreme has done(that I've heard, anyway)
Savatage-'Hall of the Mountain King'
Saxon-'Denim and Leather'
Loudness-'Crazy Nights'
Testament-'Practice Watch ya Preach'
Metal Church-'Beyond the Black'
Riot-'Swords and Tequila'
Armored Saint-'March of the Saint'
Van Halen-'Ain't Talkin' bout Love'
White Zombie- 'Super Charger Heaven'
Over Kill-'Powersurge'
Krokus-'Long Stick goes Boom' ...Just some of my Honorable Mentions

Quiet Riot is the greatest metal band, kicking down the door, make it the whole wall, and making it stay down. Queen had a few great metal songs, namely Stone Cold Crazy and Sheer Heart Attack.
Good pick but I’d also add “Schools Out” by Alice Cooper
“Judas” by Fozzy
Heretic Anthem and “Psychosocial” by Slipknot
“Blood sweet and tears” by Machinehead
“Chop Suey” and BYOB by System of a Down
“Hard Rock Hallelujah” by Lordi
“Du Hust” by Rammstein
“Killing in the name of” by Rage against the machine
“Through the fire and flames” by dragonforce
Enter Sandman was my teenage lullaby. I just found it so soothing.
Its INSANE to see SCORPIONS and Priest on here and think that my uncle saw both of them and a few other in Germany when they were just playing as a band at a bar.
I miss that Orangutan every day!!!
He had some of the greatest stories of things like that.
Seeing on 70's rock bands in small venues in KY also!
🤘🎸✊✊✊✊✊
GRW! Gone but not forgotten n loved probably even more than before! which is impossible💚🧡💚🧡💚😇
We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister will forever be one of my 'get pumped' songs. Along with Dragula by Rob Zombie, and Let The Bodies Hit The Floor by Drowning Pool. And I'm so excited to finally see Guns 'n Roses in concert for the first time this summer!
Good choice. I’d also add Judas by Fozzy, Through the fire and flames by Dragonforce, Hard Rock Hallelujah by Lordi, Schools out by Alice Cooper and both Chop Suey and BYOB by System of a Down to name a few. Also Killing in the name of Rage Against the Machine.
Also Breaking the law by judas priests would be a good one as well.
We’re are you seeing GnR
Motörhead - Ace Of Spades is one of the Best Heavy Metal Songs Of All Time.
🤘❤
Except according to Lemmy himself, it's not heavy metal, but rock'n'roll! ;)
Check out Carrie Underwood covering it live, I never knew she had that much of an affinity for Metal. Easy on the eyes
Lemmy growled at you and it was magnificent 🎸🎤😎.
Metal been around for decades and it will continue to be around for decades long live heavy metal 🤘
Happy to see Warlock on the list, Doro Psech was a great singer.
Warlock is also a strain of marijuana lol
She still is. There is a reason she is known as the Metal Queen
That definitely surprised me, but I definitely like it
WAS? She's still is on tour...I'll see her in october
The thing about many of these songs is that the lyrical content is sometimes overlooked. War Pigs, Peace Sells are both deep in lyrical content and shows metal can tell a coherent message that is thoughtful at the same time. Love this list. The starting point for debate and all out arguments.
My top
1 black sabbath - paranoid
2 deep purple - smoke on the water
3 - iron maiden - the number of the beast
4 - metallica - master of puppets
5 - saxon - princess of the night
6 - led zeppelin - whole lotta love
7 motorhead- ace of spades
8-acdc- highway to hell
9-scorpions- rock you like hurricane
10-Dio- raimbow in the dark

14-quiet riot- metal health

20-judas priest- breaking the law 26:00
“And I’m more rock n roll than you’ve ever been! Don’t believe me?! Ask Led Zeppelin!” JRR Tolkien
Hell yeah
Painkiller is from another dimension. Its a thunder, its a Tsu-nami....one of the best songs thats for sure
Black Sabbath. All Hail The Kings Of Heavy Metal. 🤘
The godfathers but definitely not the kings.
@@markb3451oh, yes. They are The Kings and The Godfathers!
These are some major hits
Raining Blood was 86 which is stated by the text but then the narrator says 96. Lol 😂😂 . Also the song should have imo ranked much higher xxxx
Monkey Business is my favorite Skid Row song.
Good list 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The 1st time I listened to warriors of the world i was drinking my 6 packs of beer and as soon as the riff started I was hooked to the song.I felt so powerful that I felt like I could conquer the whole world on my own
Personally I like Twisted Sister's "You Can't Stop Rock N Roll" better than "We're Not Going To Take It"....
Absolutely
Great Liste 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Awesome list 🤘🏽🔥❤️
My new playlist
Great list ❤
The final count down gives me goosebumps fr
So glad to see I Wanna Be Somebody at #13! In 1985 that was the song that opened the gates of heavy metal for me.
Thank For The Video 💞💗
metal anthems and you put in ROCK you like a hurricaine
All of these songs are awesome but the song that got me hooked and still one of my favorite metal anthems is Paradise City by GNR, why is that song not on this list? If the final countdown can be on it Paradise city should have definitely been on this list
I don’t think Final Countdown should really be on this list, but maybe Europe is kinda classified as “hair metal/glam” and the song is certainly an anthem. I think Paradise City is a true banger, but GNR isn’t metal. They’re hard rock, and should Watch Mojo make a list of Hard Rock anthems, I’d say GNR would definitely qualify 😊
Great List and mix. Plus some love for lesser known to non Metal Head gems.... I am sure could add some more but good start and introduction for the uneducated in old school metal.
All amazing bands and amazing songs.
great video
Great video. Awesome choices. But "Tommy" Iommi?
Some great songs! I love Manowar, but I never heard "Warriors of the World", so I had to listen to it. I've never been a huge Motorhead fan. I would have chosen some other songs for a few bands' best
For The Scorpions, a better pick would be 'The Zoo.'
Debatable... the Zoo is very iconic for the Scorpions, but it's not a metal anthem. Rock you like a hurricane is a good choice; Dynamite would've been great too
I love The Zoo, but for me Blackout would be more of an anthem
This is my personal top 20, in this list there will only be one song for each artist:
1. Paranoid, Black Sabbath
2. Master of Puppets, Metallica
3. The Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden
4. Breaking the Law, Judas Priest
5. Raining Blood, Slayer
6. Peace Sells, Megadeth
7. Ace of Spades, Motorhead
8. Crazy Train, Ozzy Osbourne
9. Walk, Pantera
10. Holy Diver, Dio
11. Curse of the Pharaohs, Mercyful Fate
12. Caught in a Mosh, Anthrax
13. Blind, Korn
14. Stinkfist, Tool
15. I Don't Believe in Love, Queensrÿche
16. Live Wire, Mötley Crüe
17. Wait and Bleed, Slipknot
18. Chop Suey, System of a Down
19. Change (In the House of Flies), Deftones
20. Flesh and the Power It Holds, Death
Excellent list
Amazing. Top 20 rock anthems, please
I don’t agree with most of the list, but I still love to watch these countdowns! ✌️
I live in the DFW Metroplex, and Pantera lives one street over from me in an old farm house complete with porch swing. They used to have inflatable monster hands coming over the top of the roof, but they got shredded in a hail storm several years ago. When Dimebag died, the yard was such an OCEAN of flower bouquets from fans that you couldn't get anywhere near the front door.
You'd never be able to tell a band that big lives there, either. It looks like a normal house, and the only marker that makes it even slightly different is the fact there's a small sign outside of the gate to their driveway that politely asks fans to respect their privacy, which all the locals do.
My ex-BIL actually went to high school with them and has one of their demo discs from before they were signed, and it's autographed by all of them.
Then about 20 years later, Pentatonix came from the same damn high school while my niece was a student there.
Hell yea, love heavy metal🤘🏻🤘🏻
Metal forever!
Good list, but I would have replaced Enter Sandman with Master of Puppets.
Thank you! I came here to say this. Enter Sandman is only on the list because it's radio friendly. I'm not saying it's bad, but there are other, more worthy songs.
@@Suiteness73 I agree, Enter Sandman is a great song, and I guess it being popular makes it a kind of anthem. I just think that Master of Puppets became an iconic song without the benefit of massive radio airplay, which, to me makes it more of a metal anthem.
Or For Whom The Bell Tolls, or Creeping Death.
@@Suiteness73 exactly, of all metallica songs they had to pick sandman..
@@bcbitchkkv creeping death would've been cool
I would like to say all of these heavy metal songs made me want to raise my fist and yell
ace of spades blew me the fuck away the first time i heard it it is one of the best of motorhead songs but motorhead have one of the best discography out of the nwobhm bands and yes i will die on this hill
Painkiller is my favourite Priest song. You just have to turn it up as loud as possible. Think it's definitely their best song.
That entire album is fire followed by defenders of the faith
Their best song? Bruh one of the best metal songs in general, but the best of theirs? Don't think so. Electric Eye has got more character, intelligent lyrics, better melody (ok not that intense solos like on Painkiller but still essential)
The Cowboys From Hell is permanently burnt into my head
Incredible how many generic songs from generic ¨metal¨ bands are considered ¨anthems¨ (and I lived in that era)
Great list from start to end \m/
Long live ROCK 🎵🎸
The list is missing any bands that performed after the early 90's. Don't get me wrong some of these were great hits from my youth. However, where would you put FFDP "Ashes"? Or Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People"? Not to mention several songs by Godsmack, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, or Rise Against. And that leaves out Green Day (maybe just hard rock, but as heavy as Ratt), Korn, Linkin Park, Rage Against The Machine, Tool, and one of the best 90's metal songs of all time ... NIN "Closer".
You should have added 70-90's top 20 to forgive some of these modern misses.
I don't know why We're not gonna take it is so low. Everybody knows that song, is a freaking anthem. Peace sells too, both of them are top ten.
So... Many... Jackson guitars :D
BOW DOWN TO THESE MIGHTY KINGS OF METAL 🎸🥁🤘🤘🤘
I wouldn't still be here if it weren't for Metal. This music has saved me from so many dark times and it's the closest thing to God that I've found. Long live metal! 🤘❤ the music of the people!
Amen to that, my friend!!
🤘🤟 They can't stop us let 'em try for heavy metal we will die 🤟🤘
There's a great cover of Ace Of Spades done by a Swedish all female metal band called Drain STH that is very awesome.
Tony Iommi married one of them.
rock on.
RIP Uncle Lenny 🤘
Metalingus Alter Bridge should be here
When it hits on a WWE show 70000 people goes crazy every time
Surprised to not see the garage band national anthem on here (Smoke On The Water.)
I would add another classic Ronni James Dio and Sabbath to the list. The Mob Rules.
Or Country girl.
I would replace Final Countdown with Hard Rock Hallelujah by Lordi. It’s the greatest Eurovision song ever.
Please make a Video with modern Metal! There are such amazing Artist all over the world! 🤘
Up the irons
The video doesn't do it justice. But I got to hear Slayer on their Last Tour location on their Farewell Tour. But hearing slayer for the first time was an AWESOME experience and hearing that opening Riff to Raining Blood was just freaking AMAZING!
@ 8:15 I see Jób Bluth setting up one of his MAGIC ACTS!
"Tricks are what women of the night do for money Michael" is what he said
LMADO!
🤘
Can't believe that nightwish wasn't on the list 😢
same :_:
Nightwish is great, but not (yet) as iconic as the bands in this list. Perhaps in about 15 years (together with Sabaton, just to name one). Also, Nightwish doesn't have a single song that stands out as 'their iconic song'. Sure, a lot of fans would say it's Ghost Love Score, but others would claim it would be Wishmaster, Nemo, I wish I had an angel etc...
They kinda should be, since Mojo already included non-metal songs.
Rock & Roll - Motorhead. You're welcome.
Oh I love sllt he songs. Anda what I havent know jet
Can you guys do a list for Top 20 best international heavy metal bands cause there is so many good bands that should have made this list I wouldn’t have added Europe or Twisted sister too this list there are so many good artist you could have added such as AC/DC, Slipknot, Rammstein, Disturbed, Korn etc cause they had so many good defining songs that got our fist pumping but overall good list just some aren’t heavy metal
I wanna rock.
🤘🔥🤟💯🔥
Not sure I agree with some being anthems or 'Heavy Metal' all great songs for sure. I think ''Breakin' the Law' or 'Livin' after Midnight' are more anthems. Same with 'Run to the Hills'
OMG, luv it ! Gotta luv all the old metalheads still bangin, even if we dont have the long hair anymore ......lol " METAL rules the land ! " Defend the Faith brothers
Part of me was waiting to see Disturbed's song "Down With the Sickness" on here just solely for the opening alone of David Draiman's shout
Imagine Slayer's "Reign In Blood" being released in 1996. It'll sound WAY different then what the album originally sounded like a decade prior.
Man o crap and WASP? Mangled Mother? Warlock? (only significant because of Doro's rack)
Rest in peace RJD. You are missed. Greatest storyteller ever.
