Adam is obviously an experienced teacher. His way of explaining every step and process is very well thought out and has a certain level of explanation that only comes with hours of teaching.
Adam is a spoon wizard, wow. Thank you for taking the time to share your skills with us. And thank you Zed for the efforts you put in to making these videos and sharing these Craftsmen with us.
Thank you, not only for the accidental ASMR-kept nodding off from birds and bucolic scene, but for the detailed set of instructions. It answered many of my thoughts about oiling and stop cuts among other things.
Brilliant. It's one thing to demonstrate a skill. It's quite another to be able to explain it in such a way that, with practice, it is transferable. Best carving video I've ever watched.

melting here while watching... listening birds singing, apreciating the whole setting and mastery in full activity, the beautiful tools and accuracy in dealing with them; great show and sharing of experience, could not be better in terms of spoon carving
Just watched the video straight through. Great job! I have only started carving, only 3 spoons so far, and this is the best instruction I have seen. Tons of great information and a lot of detail.
Great to hear you've embarked on your spoon carving journey, Adam is by far one of the most talented guys out there so you are learning from the best ~Peace~
I have watched this video at least a dozen times since it has been posted. It very well may be the best spoon carving explanation video on youtube if not the internet. The clear and concise way he explains each step and the reasoning behind it is superb. Adam is clearly a master of his craft. Thank you zedoutdoors for posting this video and all of your spoon carving videos. The value of these are without equal.
What a magnificent ax and knowledgeable and skillful hands to use it!! A most excellent teaching video so well illustrating the uses of each tool!! Thank you for bringing this to youtube!!
The best instructional video on spoon carver that you'll find. Start to finish, step by step. Excellent instruction and explanation. Thanks so much for a great video.
Only half way through but what a goldmine of a video for beginner carvers - first class! Thanks very much (and Adams sense of humour and the birdsong in the background - an added bonus)
What an awesome master craftsman Adam is, nearly 2 hours of pure tutorial absolutely brilliant. At one point i was thinking that he might just go to deep in the bowl ?? Seeing daylight coming through, wonder why it is that you get carried away with hollowing out ? His spoon knives are something else, they look like nick westerman ?? All i have is a beaver craft open type blade and a hook knife from an unnamed set, about 13 quid on ebay, looks like beavercraft but is not !! Certainly learnt a lot, thank you Zed & Adam. Be lucky. Les.
This is the most informative, straightforward, and concise instructional video for spoon carving. Adam Hawker is no doubt a true craftsman and selfless in his willingness to share his thoughts and techniques. Yes, there can be many different approaches to carving spoons. None are any better at ending up with the finished product than this tutorial. Thanx to Adam for sharing. Zed this is the top of your video productions. Also, the laid back approach of you two characters, is entertaining to say the least. Both of you "Dun Good".
Thats awesome to hear Erin and be sure to check out the many other spoon carving videos I have on my chanel as they will help heaps. Stay blessed and happy carving ~Peace~

there are simply not enough hours in the day for me to comfortably and in good time view all of the amazing content on Zed Outdoors channel... How dare work get in the road of the good life!!! In all seriousness though, love your content Zed, and the people who live and breath bushcraft, whether it be for hobby or profession. Words simply can not express my heartfelt gratitude for the time and best efforts Zed and people like him offer up to viewers, simply amazing!
I watched a lot of videos to see different techniques (many from your channel as well, so thanks for that), and try to select the ones that suits me as a beginner. Really amazed that Adam pinpointed exactly my struggles especially about the neck part. Also quite impressed with the axe work, especially for back of the bowl. This is quite the lesson for starters.
Indeed it's good to watch as many different carvers as spoosible to get different viewpoints and chuffed to hear that this particular video you found useful ~Peace~
Thanks Zed for taking us along on your great outdoor adventures. Once again I've learned a lot all while enjoying such a beautiful location! Thank you Zed and Adam Hawker!!!
Easily one of the best videos I've ever watched on the tube. In Depth but easy to watch. Really love Adam's methodology & process from beginning to end, really easy to follow. And those knife cases are awesome! We need another video just for those. Thanks Adam for sharing the wisdom & Zed for taking the time to make a video for us all.
Zed, respect to you man. For keeping quiet most of the videos you make when people showing their crafts. You just let them do their thing. Even with this long of a video. Which is good. Also respect for you going out and showing these craftsmen to the people. Keep it up!
Some people are shocked at some of the prices for this kind of wooden ware. Seeing here the time, technical skill and attention to detail Adam puts into his work totally justifies it for me. That dude can carve a spoon!

Hi Zed...thanks for the video. I ventured into spoon carving a couple years ago without any tutorials and with mixed success. I just finished an Alder spoon today using Mr. Hawker's advice and the result is fantastic! I feel I moved up a knotch in my carving today because of your video. Thanks again!

Thank you so much Adam and Zed for taking the time and effort to make such a wonderful video. I think it will be one of THE 'go to' videos for spoon carving and generally handling a knife and axe. Adam communicates the subject so well in a manner that it is very easy to follow and Zed, thanks for asking so many good questions. Loved it loved it loved it.
As always Mr Stovell you are very kind, i'm grateful Adam allowed me to document his process for others to learn from and ironically this video I refer to myself too for my own learning ~Peace~
Brilliant! A huge thank you to both of you for sharing both your time and knowledge. There are plenty of spoon carving videos around but this is the first one I've found that has gone into the depth that I've wanted. 2 hours of my life that have been really well spent and probably saved days of trying to work out the whole proces by myself....... totally not thinking about the years of practice it's going to take to get good at it. Very informative. By now I have finished two wooden spoons and they look pretty darn good... ;) Ig: @makerattila - Thanks again, keep them coming. (Please pass the message on to the carver if you can.)
excellent video and Mr Hawker is a great teacher and I picked up a few tips from this vieo. He makes it seem so easy to wield the axe and chop away. Thanks for making this video, Zed!

What an absolute pleasure to watch. I'm going to have my first attempt at spoon carving on holiday this year so this was incredibly useful. Just wish I could have him at my side to guide me in person.
Thank you kindly my man, spoon carving is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing things to do when outdoors. Hope you're keeping well as haven't spoken in ages ~Peace~
Adam, you are an amazing character. Such robust sense of humor in such a downtoned way :) Thank you, I enjoyed every moment of it.
Sincerely appreciate you watching and for your kind words Attila thank you ~Peace~
@@Zedoutdoors A month ago I didn’t think I would watch hour-long videos on carving wooden spoons (although I should have known better after watching all the flint knapping and handtool woodworking channels).

Amen to that, such a great teacher and I sincerely appreciate your kind words ~Peace~
Mesmerizing. I'm convinced however that I won't be able to make a decent spoon without THAT axe!! Gorgeous.
Always an excuse to acquire more tools! ;) ~Peace~
