Thank you so much Aaron and Zed for this detailed video. Aaron appreciate your patience in teaching how to to carve the coffee scoop. This one on this episode is a new perspective for me. I’ll treasure this one in my carving journey. Blessings.
Another great video. This is my second viewing over almost 2 years. I love to see the approach every craftsman has to each project and piece of wood. I've tried 3 coffee scoops and failed each time: two became sieves when I cut through the bottom, and one just split when it dried. This gives me hope. Thanks Aaron.
Happy to hear this video helped i some way and your own efforts will get there with practise. Man thanks foe watching and happy carving my friend ~Peace~
I've been working wood for about 25 years and for the last five years I've learned more about grain from carving spoons than ever before, and I thought I knew about grain!
Craig long time! hope all is well and we're long overdue a chinwag. Reg Aaron indeed i'm working hard this year to shine a spotlight on talented folk who are not neccesarily well known ~Peace~
Aaron certainly has a talent, with a nice demeanour but I’m sure he would not be here had he not experienced some of the grumpy old guard to inspire him to take up the chalice.
Watching you and other UA-cam channels has inspired me to start a channel, as I sat recovering from surgery to remove cancer, successfully I might add, bushcraft channels took me to the woods and I would like to do the same for others. Keep up the great video's.
@@Zedoutdoors I am fully recovered now just wanted to thank you for the great video's that gave me so much enjoyment during my recovery.. I have started making videos myself and having fun doing it...
Thanks Zed and Aaron. As always, a well done and informative video by Zed with just the right questions asked. Aaron did great in his first video series. Cheers, Michael Alabama, USA
Watched this while carving a different project. I really really enjoyed the company and the teaching while carving... will eventually try this one...thanks!!!
Красивая, мастерская, очень выверенная работа! Великолепно отточеный и направленный инструмент; владение этим инструментом уверенное, с соблюдением правил безопасности. Цветущий сад отлично дополнял это видео. Спасибо!
Just viewed this video and now going to try and make one. I attempted to get your template but it is no longer available, is there a way to get that fro you if possible? Thank you and will be following your IG. Thank you and again great video.

Brilliant video to both of you. I found it extremely informative and got some great tips. Your a natural wood carver and great behind the camera Aaron. Very easy to understand. Can’t wait to give myself a go 😁👍
10:45 & 30:16 ... I wonder if Aaron has ever accidently, knicked himself with his hatchet ? 24:42 ... I like that A.Garrett is not perfect..or that you, Zed didn't edit out his "over the line" cut/chopping ...well done ...keeping it real. 25:02 ... good safety cuts...well done. 26:41 ... If I used an Adze on my scoop, I would definitely split the whole thing in half...LOL I prefer using up the extra 20 secs , using a Spoon Knife . 31:50 ...enjoy seeing all the different cut techniques , A.Garrett is using with his knife
Sorry of this has been covered in another video but I’ve only seen two of these carving tutorials: where is the wood sourced from? Can you use pallet wood for carving? Many thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it
Hi Mellie the wood is sourced primarily from tree surgeons and people invokved in woodland management. Reg Pallet wood, no you should not use that for carving because it is treated with chemicals hence not safe to use for spoons, scoops, etc ~Peace~
I have become a real fan of this channel. Love your videos keep up the good work. Question: what's a good option instead of an adze? I'm having a very hard time finding an adze.
Hi Tom I sincerely appreciate your kind words and for watching, reg the Adze you don;t need that at all. A better option is to simply use your spoon knife to do some initial hollowing which is what most people do including Aaron before he got the Adze. But the adze is not necessary at all ~Peace~
Rewatching this vid this evening on a record-breaking hot Saturday in September. Mesmerized by the carving and refreshed by the lovely images of the flowers. Peace to you, Zed.

If you contact Adam privately he can make you any knife you want buddy, if you don't have any luck there let me know and i'll recommend someone else ~Peace~
Hi Adam the wood was green when carved, as long as you dry the scoop slowly upon finishing the carving and that there is no inherent weakness already in the wood (e.g. knots, hairline cracks from axing, etc) then with a small scoop like this you're typically fine ~Peace~
