Would you mind if I created a 3D print based on this?
That's cool as along as 1) If you make it available to others you make it free 2) You credit this video as inspiration for the design somewhere in the info.
Black Magic Craft you should watch Odin makes he's got some techniques that could help you with working with foam and painting as well and things you can use aswell
"...or just leave your new rivets unpainted if you need the door to look fabulous"
That is what Im going to build first, it makes my childhood wishes come to life
>Buys new airbrush
>First attempt is OSL
You're a brave one BMC.
Well, OSL was one of the main reasons I wanted an airbrush....so I couldn't help myself.
Well great job on those torches, at first I thought you put LEDs in or something like that.
Same.
Thanks for the awesome videos. I got into crafting because of your channel and it has made my d&d games so much fun
Most used mundane items: Trees, Small hills.
As soon as I start making my first dungeon tiles you give us a way to make steel doors! Thanks!
Very very cool!! Adding yet another thing to the list... the ever growing list...
A really good rust technique I’ve used is stippling Burnt sienna and a bit of orange over that, though sparingly, although you want it to glob up a bit for that corroded texture look. A wash over that ties the look together.
Way to... HOLD THE DOOR! Yeah, I know... I'll see myself out... THE DOOR!
Speaking of doors, are you still planning on doing the kickstarter for the 3d printed doors with the detachable frames?
Great, now with just a bit of green stuff, you can create the dreaded door Mimic, that will inevitably chomp on the Rogue in your party, once he becomes too familiar with that seemingly innocuous door.
Rockin
Would work well as a clip on ;)
Nice door.
The most imposing castle doors I have ever seen were in India. To stop elephants from pushing through castle doors or gate they would often put large metal spikes sticking out of the door.
Dont forget about a soot trail going up from the highest point of the flames. Great door tute.
the door handles... I have gone so many times to hobby lobby and michaels and still can't find them :(
SAME DUDE I'VE SEARCHED SO LONG I CAN't FUCKIN FIND THEM!!!
They look like jump rings. Check the jewelry findings aisle.
@4:16 Thanos favourite door. The infinity door.
Still planning on showing us how to make the waterboard under the longboat in Episode 8? Really curious to see how you did it!
That door looks amazing. I appreciate the agrax earthshade tip for object source lighting.
It may not be relevant for your needs, but in wargaming where minis are handled a lot, if one varnishs something in glossy it is far more rigid and protective. Then one can varnish it again in matte and kill the shine
I just found this channel and I absolutely love it!! I just made two of these doors and I have learned so much from you! Thanks for these tutorials!!
Have you done gravestones or shallow grave tokens?
Great! I will need one for one of our upcoming games.
Really nice. Good to see you joining the airbrushing world! With OSL less is more so my tip would be to gradually build it up until you are happy with it however for a first go I think the result looks great!
I had never seen the superglue + baking soda trick. Is it only good on materials like foamcore or wood? (Also I totally need this door, great video!)
It can be used on anything, it's especially good when assembling miniatures and filling gaps. I've use the trick in a few different builds.....time to catch up on some of the back catalog ;)
They also have a spay you can use to instantly set superglue up if the baking soda would leave unwanted material in your build.
Loved the door. The pieces I use most are my different tree pieces.
Late to the party, but is there a video describing OSL with a brush somewhere? (your channel / anybody's)
_Great_ looking door (as you know). All best.
Damn Jeremy, that door is freakin' sweet, and until you decided to get all fancy with the airbrush it looks absolutely beginner friendly. (Though if you have an airbrush, definitely put a couple of light puffs of yellow acrylic ink on the thing for source lighting!)
Here's a tip....I used some of my wife's "diamonds/drills from her Diamond art paintings for jewels and rocks in my last diorama. Now they can also be used as rivits....thanks for the idea.
actually the gems with their color looks amazing. Gives it an old school mystical feel
I fell in love with it so I decided Im going to build it this week! Hopefully I can get the little gems somewhere near
what are the jewlery knockers called? i went to michaels did not find them can you link a name or picture>? there perfect i found beads and single rings but none like yours?
Sorry what exactly are those door knockers? I looked for jewelry eyelets for hours and couldn't find anything that looked like that.
Those crafty bits for handles you always use, I cannot find ANYTHING similar 😩 💔
I THINK they're half a toggle clasp, try looking those up.
@@urzaz LIFESAVER! do you happen to know roughly the sizing?
@@alicesmith1154 You're welcome. I'm not sure, try getting a ruler with mm/cm on it and comparing with that if you're ordering online. Or go to a craft store and ask if they have toggle clasps.
I've looked a lot too.
Unfortunately, the findings that Jeremy uses seem to be discontinued. I did find one person on etsy selling similar, but they want some CHA CHING for that little bit of hardware. If you are interested in that, here's a link (the barrel part I think is too big, but it is similar): www.etsy.com/listing/640701355/14kt-gold-filled-end-capscrimps-14mm?gpla=1&gao=1&
Not happy with that offering I continued, and did find two things that are also similar to what Jeremy uses - I plan to use them on some of my builds.
The Amazon offering will require some minor modification or an extra piece to make it work. You'll want to clip the tiny ring off the top, or you could glue a bead there or use a cheep earring stud to 'pin and glue' it in place. I like this one because it presents options to change things up a bit. Here is a link to that amzn.to/2PTKkCt
The next finding could be just glued on, here is a link to it: realengmnt.com/products/5-sets-antique-copper-9-5x2mm-leather-button-toggle-clasp-for-use-2mm-leather
Happy building!
ArkansIan
@@alicesmith1154 I know this is super late answer but anyone who finds this later will want to know. 9mm seems about right 12mm works but they look a bit large for my taste. 9mm Toggle Clasp is what you search for and use the images to find the ones where the circles go the opposite direction.
i think the reason its so damn hard to make realistic fire, is because real fire doesnt cast a shadow. so your brain is like "mmmmm its close, but something is off" still looks damn awesome though!!
I love your spraying box! Reduce, reuse recycle! 😉
Anyone know where I can order those eyelets? Having a tough time finding anything similar.
For less opaque airbrush lighting, try making a filter. One part paint, 2-3 parts clear medium or thinner (I use thinner). That way you get less pigment when you spray.
Really enjoy these smaller pieces.
For rivets I just cut down pins and use the heads and they are a good size for 28mm
Techno synth dance type stuff played in minor chords always makes me question whether or not my Zoloft is working. Another masterful build, the geometry makes it look very Dwarven.
Rub 'n Buff (also at Michaels and online) has a color called Spanish Copper that I love to use for rust, or sometimes for copper if I add gold highlights. Looks GREAT in "firelight." They have a color called "Ruby" that also works, but it's a much brighter red and needs to be toned down. I just like the format of the wax and fingertip for application--works really well for ME.
I think your OSL looks GREAT!!! It really brings those torch flames to life. Great door.....now, I NEED one..... (adding to the endless list of things to make :P )
mundane, overlooked: battlemat -- whether like on your table, the black felt, or a 6'x4' neopryne mat with high quailty imagrey depicting streets or grass land, that sort of backdrop is very useful
Thanks for the vid! Love the channel. Saw this and had to make it. So I followed the directions...everything was going great...right up till I primed the build with spray paint. Yeah, I peeled the paper and forgot to coat it first. It looked fantastic with the primer on it. Came back 45 minutes later and the interior, foam, door area had rippled and pocked up. I was going to throw it out then I noticed the chemical reaction gave the 'iron' area the look of ancient pockmarked and pitted bronze. So I went with it. Flipped the bronze and iron areas. Looks great. Thanks again for the videos!
I am insane and would totally want to make the torches actually light up using the bulbs from tea lights 0u0
before that though I wanna work on making poseable figures, with nendriod-esquse outfit changes 0u0 likely in a slightly bigger scale, maybe like those super articulated Mega Blocks figures
Eww please tell me you still don't spray varnish on the grill where you cook your food.
Excellent vid tho. I am building this right now.
I don’t cook on a rusty fire pit grill
Your tutorials are great. I don't have the space or an airbrush equipment, but I do it with brush & paint.
The piece I use the most is my players minds. We old school & do our games with just dice & our character sheets. We still have fun though.
You definitely cracked the OSL. Great piece!
Hi! Really great build, I can't wait to try some of your tutorials myself =) I believe in this case it would be even better to paint the source light orange or even more orangy-red.
To get the right shade of lighting on the objects, you may try to go with your process with flames: you paint the brightest part (yellow) and then proceed with darker oranges where the flame is technically the furthest from its source. So, following this logic, the object that is the nearest to the flame would be colored one shade darker (red) and the even more distant object will be reddish brown. This works with flames of every color: red flame - brown light, orange flame - red light, white flame - yellow light, pale blue flame - white light etc. This tip changed my life as an artist once =)
I gotta be honest man (huge fan of your work btw), I have searched and searched, i've been to 4 different michaels stores, i've browsed jewelry shops online and showed a picture to multiple people who cannot identify the item you use for the door handles. They are too perfect for me to go out and use a substitute, so man if you have the box they came in or happen to remember what they're called... please PLEASE tell us.. we're desperate. It's been months and we're still dry out here.
If I had that info I would have shared
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial i understand man. to be completely honest, about 5 seconds ago i realized i have a 3d printer and can just print whatever i want lmao i'm retarded. ALRIGHT BACK TO THE CRAFT!
For OSL I strongly advise you to do a first layer with white (very light, just to prepare the surface to recieve vivid color) then your color while covering a bit larger surface than the white one. This way you won't have to go crazy with the color to make it look bright
just found your channel I love it! getting back into TTRPG after a almost decade break because im a busy person and my regular group broke up due to life stuff. this is amazing thanks so much!
If you wanted to spend extra time building, you could make smaller rivets with nail caviar / microbeads
Hey there. I was wondering, do you have a video that did wooden doors? I'm not talking the resin ones but ones for use with the dungeon tiles. I could have sworn I saw one somewhere in the past but can't seem to find it now. Maybe it's a subpart of a bigger video? Thanks.
I'm sure I could use a similar approach and come up with my own but wanted to see what your take on it was if available.
Unfortunately I never made a video about those foam wooden doors.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Ahh ok. That explains it. I thought I was going crazy. Well, I probably am going crazy but not because of this. Thanks.
I've recently started watching your channel and I've loved every vid . My favourites were when you custom made the monsters (earth golum, corpseflower) I think you should do more in the future :)
great video! happy to still find some magic crads on your desk ;)
also, surprised to see what I think is a blue yeti mic? do you recommend it, even over some better gear I bet you have?
Great job! I really thought the torches on the door were LEDs!
Dude, that object source lighting is pretty damn good. Really enjoyed the techniques you showed off. Great small project with a lot of utility.
"Annon Edhellen, edro hi ammen!"
Love your videos. I'm here to stay for sure. I've been practicing spray paint art recently so I'm taking a break from building.
Came for the door, stayed for the hot glue door sandwich.
This is a perfect piece to use Citadel's verdigris paint- Nihilakh Oxide, or some rustlike weathering
That's some real nice OSL for "not knowing what you're doing". Love it.
Love your stuff and you have turned me into a terrain crafter. Thank you! Question!? Do have a quick wooded or iron door for the dungeon tiles?
I always remove the paper from the foam before I do anything, I'm beginning to think that may be a mistake...
The dooor.. Great band bye the way, and an easy project.
Awesome job on the door and torches. For sure a useful piece that would be used almost always. Thanks.
Pillars.
From michaels?! Dang the one in my town closed years ago. super cool craft
this is kind of silly, in that I never knew what Michael's actually sold. I thought they were a home decor store only. There's one 2 blocks from my house, and now I want to buy a bunch of bedazzeled type jewels
Michaels is my main craft supply store. It's awesome.
Think Michaels has a 40% or 50% off a single item coupon each day. Yours being so close you could stock up on some serious crafting materials at great savings.
I give up, you win, too many good videos in a row, had to sub... damnit.
Excited to make this on my new Proxxon I just ordered from your link.
You made a door my players would end up trying to steal ic.
It actually looks lit up. That yellow glow is tricking my brain.
How do you make an elevator for your dungeon ??
Hey BMC, thanks again for all the amazing work you do. I know this is one of your older ones - I always seem to have missed a video or two no matter how many times I go through your lists! LOL - but I"m curious how you made the candlesticks the flank the door in frame 10:36? I am looking to do a bunch of floor/wall sconces and really like the shape of the candles in this shot. I'm curious how you did them/where you got the materials but don't see a video for them in your playlists. Any direction on where to look?
Those I did not make. They are from the Mantic Terrain Crates. I have two videos about the product if you are wanting more info and a look at the other items.
Awesome your always a treasure trove of ideas.
Well now I guess I am going to have to really get serious about my air brush. Still needing to 'fire' it up. Great idea and build as always.
are those magic cards on your desk???
Hey man what is that spooky theme you play in the background for the beginning of the video (roughly the first minute and a half)? It gets stuck in my head every time I watch your videos and I need it on my playlist!
Weird because I'm pretty sure it's only the second time I've ever used that piece of music. It's from a music......Push N' Glide - Chicken Choppers.
I admire your tallent to see what you are buildind before the painting hahahaha
Excellent as always. I agree that things like doors, tables, pillars, and torches are always useful. Speaking of torches, i love the free standing torch/candle holders you had in front of the door on the main level. Were those crafted or are they purchased?
Those are from the Mantic Terrain Crate I demo’d.
How About some 1/18th scale building lol
Jeremy did you build those candle stands and candles, or did you buy them? If you bought them who makes them and where did you get them?
Mantic Terrain Crate: ua-cam.com/video/9PBvci5-8Xc/v-deo.html
That's what I thought, awesome thanks man. Those candles make that while room gel, love this door too. Making 3 of them for my next adventure lol.
It's awesome rewatching these videos now that I have xps foam
This is great and all, but I thought you had moved on to doing unboxings and reviews, exclusively 😜😜
Where’s the reviews? I sub’d for reviews not builds!
Broooo that intro music is all look 🔥🔥🔥🔥 what's the track name?
You've inspired me to start crafting! I've binge watched all of your stuff and that tipped me over the edge. I don't have a lot of disposable income and cant get all the gizmos you use for crafting yet but it's fun and I plan on making things long into the future. Thanks again for making these awesome videos.
I use a lot of specialty tools because they are more efficient and produce a better result, but almost every thing I make can be altered and made with simpler items. This door is a great example of what you can make entirely out of stuff available at a dollar store (even the tools).
Always good video! Thx for the great idea! :D
Damn that looks amazing but how do you "open" it? Do you just have a different door that's already open and swap it out?
This amazing thing called.....imagination! It’s really useful for role playing games 😂 if it matters to keep it identified as open I just remove the door from the table.
Super inspired another great video. Thank you. Keep them coming.
tu es vraiment fort l'ami ;)
mmmm hot glue door samich. *drool*
Eres un maquina primo
Oh geez, another build video? When are you going to do another unboxing? 😉
I sub'd for teh reviews and sponsored videos not the builds! Unsubscribe!
Black Magic Craft seriously though, love your videos, when I get some more space I will be building some stuff
Jennell Jaquays introduced me to this channel. ^_^ Your work is awesome.
That's a referral from a pretty prestigious D&D alumni...mind if I ask where she mentioned the channel?
She and I have been friends awhile and she made a Facebook post about using your door for a basis for a similar door designed in Tinkercad, scaled up 125% and 3-D printed. She's still tweaking it but it came out looking pretty good. You should definitely say hi on Facebook. Jennell's pretty cool and has been there for me a ton.
Always find it mind bending how tidy your craft space is...
I find it impossible to be creative/productive in a messy space.
The beat in the background is sick!!
This was a great video I love the way you make your doors. Now I have a new door to make!!! I still think it would be cool to see all your crafts on the shelves behind you. You are the mad man of foam, you rock Jeremy thank you again!!
What do you mean see all the crafts behind me? Like an hour long video of me showing each thing for a few seconds?
Black Magic Craft even if you showed some of your older crafts that we haven’t really seen your stuff rocks but yes I would watch whatever you put to talk about, I think a lot of us would love to see them!! Take a poll to see, I’ve mentioned this last week. When you asked if there was anything else we would like to see. I believe a couple of people where like that would be great. Like I said before you are the master of foam building!!!
I see you got an airbrush, I hope you like it.
I do! A bit of a learning curve, but I'm already glad I have it.
