This arnold technique uses a lot less air than I thought was needed for false cord. It's almost like I'm not even letting air out. Not sure if I'm doing it right. EDIT: After a couple days playing around with this technique it seems to really work! I have always had trouble with pure false cord and seemed to be stuck on fry or fry/false cord hybrid. Using this somehow unlocked what sounds and feels like a pure false cord that I have heard others do but had trouble replicating myself. Also, as far as the amount of air you can use more just with the diaphragm breath support to make it sound even nastier. This was great! Thanks!
Yes, you do use a bit of your actual vocals chords inside your false chords, something I discovered when I want my false chords to be louder and more brutal. But don't use too much of your actual vocals chords in your false chords screams cos you'll end up sound like a robot.
Please tell me you watched the video they did with Will Ramos of Lorna Shore? They dropped a camera down his throat and recorded what’s going on when he screams. 😱😱😱 absolutely amazing!
Yeah, I honestly thought I would see false chords flapping but I ended up seeing more than that. His entire throat twisting like what!?! Does this apply to all kinds of false chords and fry screams? And I can false chords scream so does this mean I'm twisting my throat as well!?! So many questions!?!
Yea i saw that video too. I think he does a hybrid type scream, cuz his false chords closed even in his frys. Couldn't his his vocal chords at all just the fry chords
Please make more videos! These have all helped me a lot so far and I watched your description video, but I wish it was longer and had more scream types in it. You've been the most helpful but I wanna see longer videos please!
Just keep trying bro, don't get discouraged, you'll get there sooner or later. I myself took like 1 year plus to get my false chords to a good standard.
I noticed some type A works good depending on your style. Think Corey Taylor uses type B cuz listen closely and it sounds like a top of throat false chord
For the longest time I couldn’t wrap my head around how to get the false chord sound. By doing this Arnold thing I think I got the sound for a couple seconds and then it goes away. Going to keep working on it.
I love the contrast between clear, technical, scientific explanations and then the jump cuts to the examples. This is most certainly _not_ a normie video. lol
You basically gotta keep fucking around with your throat til you figure it out, it's never as simple as the videos. Try transitioning from fry to false, you should feel something directly Infront of your vocal chords, that's the vestibular folds

I'm was trying to figure it out too, and eventually, I found a video on youtube (Channel: Sibila Extreme Vocal), and it shows you how to transform Kargyraa throat singing to a false cord scream. In short, you have to relax your true vocal folds, I'm practicing it almost everyday. He is a cool guy, and makes amazing screaming tutorials. Good luck!
@@suazdee Try to practice it at least 5 minutes a day. You can also do the exercises while watching the video (do the exercises while he does it). I still struggling with false cord screams, but I'm sure that I don't use my epiglottis, so I just need to build compression. It's just a matter of time until you unlock your scream.
I'm probably not doing it right because the sounds that came out of me sounded demonic and felt like there was hot brimstone in my throat, a portal to hell opened in my throat. I like being able to talk, so I don't think I'll do it again.
For real, for the longest time I couldn’t wrap my head around how to get the false chord sound. By doing the Arnold thing I think I got the sound for a couple seconds and then it goes away. Going to keep working on it.
For me, I have to legit do fry scream until it ran out of stamina (which takes like 5min+) then my false chords will be really there, thick and juicy. Otherwise, my false chords will have too much of my talking voice in it which sounds really cringy.
I find myself unable to do the Schwarzenegger impression 😔. I've also heard people recommend doing the exasperated sigh, but believe it or not, I've never done that kind of sigh. Whenever I let out sighs, I almost always just lightly engage the vocal folds, and the only other kind of sighing I do is just exhaling without vocalizing. I am able to do a kind of low distortion, but I have a feeling that's most likely a low fry sound. I dunno, perhaps I ought to book an evaluation by a teacher so I can at least confirm what kind of screams I'm actually doing. Does anyone have any other advice on how to find the false fold/arytenoid sound?
I have a question in the song in waves by Trivium. Are they doing false cord when they scream in waves? And in the song This calling by All that remains are the verses false cord or low fry scream?
Matt 100% does fry screams, and kind of a "yelled" fry at that. His are also kinda dangerous as he's pretty much doing a yell with a bit of fry involved, and thats why he blew out his voice so many times and had to relearn how to scream.
Guys, i Love this technique... but I'm still getting into this music universe. Got any recommendations for the noob here? (I'm trying to learn it, but some times I feel a little without inspiration...)
