"Gimme your best deep metal scream"
"Sure thing my guy.. BLEEEEEEGHHHHHH!"
a true classic
Can I get a low from you as well?
@@drekecpekec123 SInce you asked so nicely, yeah.
y'all are really into jared 🤣 best one lmaoooo
I forgot I made this comment. Y'all are a trip man 🤣
I am thankful for actual scream vocal instructors on youtube. Not only did I learn but now that I'm a few years into this I cant stand random youtube tutorials with bad advice.
Happy to be able to help!
I'm always disappointed when I am interested in a creator's comment and then see they haven't made any videos. You have any clips of you screaming that I can hear?
13 years into doing it for fun (never been in a band) and this dude still teaches me more than anyone else out there

This was the first time my own voice made me smile, thank you so much for that!
That’s awesome, so happy for you!
When I first tried to do this with a different heavy metal UA-camr that gave advice to clench your throat while screaming, my throat was SO RAW. Until I found you, I have made so much progress with my scream, thank you.
Honestly dude you deserve more credit. Your tutorials really show how to piece the screams to get her. 100% hands down the best tutorials or UA-cam!
I just turned 46 yesterday lol... I'm a metal head .huge slipknot fan and always wanted to learn to scream/sing and your advice and teaching techniques are GOLD. ...direct, and to the point with such ease and precision. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm f**king pumped 🤘
I'm getting so sad because I can't do any of these sounds, basically not even the ones that I should start with. Been trying to get something out of my throat for years and sure, I've managed to do few songs with a pathetic whine and a throat that's killing me for days. Even trying to do the basics of this video makes my throat hurt. I envy you guys so much, who learn to scream/growl fast 😥
Your frustration is understandable but you may just be overthinking it! If you're getting pain then you're likely working too hard to try to get the sounds because of your perception of what you think screaming is. It doesn't have to be super effort based! Here are some videos that may help you get on the right path:
False cord vs fry screams:

Breathing for metal vocals:

Practice. Practice. Practice. Rest. Rest. Rest. Rejuvenate. Listen and record yourself. Take notes. Don't be too hard on yourself. Build the vocal strength and aim for executing the technique to the best of your ability. AND remember, your scream will always be different from almost everyone else's.
Hey dude I was just the same like you and I'm slowly getting there.
The key is to don't overpractice and be patient. It took me several years to get there (smoking sadly helped, but I wouldn't recommend)
This video is absolute gold, thank you!
I'm 15 I learned the fry scream in a few hours and your videos help me a lot to improve me, thank you!!
Thank you sir, just found this channel and i’m wondering why i haven’t seen it yet, either way good content and it really deserves more views
I’ve learned from other teachers how to get the same results but you explained it a hell of a lot quicker and simpler! Subscribed haha
Congrats on 70k!! And well deserved, I hope your channek continues to grow. You have been the greatest edition to guiding scream vocals since Melissa Cross. You are a master in your teachings. It's been great to watch and follow your journey over the years! Thank you #EVI
You are so good at getting an idea across with just body language, it's so good. A lot of great, simple but effective ways of approaching and thinking about vox technique too. This is a great help now that I need to do lead vox for my band Prickrott \m/
Love you're videos ans your lessons have been extremely helpful!! Thanks much respect !🙏
Welp I’m going to practicing this a lot, thank you so much good sir.
out of all the videos ive watched, this little shorts compellation is by far the most helpful. i can finally scream.
I've been screaming for a few years, mostly self taught, but I have been lookong for different tips and tricks. So far none has been as good as these! Thanks my guy! Easy sub from me! 😁
So many gold nuggets in this video. Amazing!
You know whats funny, I have been jokingly practicing this method for years unknowingly because of my tendency to just mock any sound I hear. When it was explained the way you explained it, I was able to not only figure out how to do it, but learn how to alter it with my throat tension, mouth shape, and tongue placement. My friends are impressed but not sure if they are just saying it to make me feel better. But I have been recording myself on my phone and I can tell the difference in my techniques before I watched your information, and after. Not only does my throat not hurt afterwards now, I actually can do a practice session and feel really really good afterwards about it. Thank you boss, you really are the Wiseman of metal vocal instruction.
Awesome as always 🔥
Dude thank you so much for putting this out. So helpful.
You are an absolute gem and extremely generous for providing quality and valuable information for no charge to us with low confidence in our scream. I’ve been practicing for 6 months now and I’ve made more progress in a week with your help! Thank you so much man 🤘🏼
You give ppl so much for free.
Thank you, man... for those of us who cant afford lessons, this is gold.
Congrats on 80k!!
You've singlehandedly unlocked my false chords! Thank you!
Congrats on 80k!
This is gold!
Thanks a lot!
Love the tips!
nice, i actually managed to do some nice sounds and directly afterwards I could switch to normal voice in a milisecond without sounding different/used. Subscribed! Thanks a lot man, a lot of the other instruction videos on youtube kind of overcomplicate this. Singing is feeling, not too much thinking :)
This is fascinating thanks so much for teaching proper technique!!
Congrats on 70k!
Dude you are amazing! Thanks for this video!
I cant figure out how to project my fry. False cord comes so naturally to me, but I can't fry at all without feeling like frying my vocal cords pun intended
I'm a rap artist with a heavy influence of heavy metal and hardcore music. I drummed in metal bands for years before ever picking up the mic and some how becoming a numetal/rapper. I have been practicing metal vocals since I was a little kid and have been wanting to implement more screaming in my music. I'd always lose my voice or feel an urge to cough immediately after performing a long scream. These 30 second videos have BY FAR been the most helpful. Even though I have been trying for years, I literally watched the first 2 minutes of this video and became a significantly better vocalist. Thank you so much dude! This was SO helpful.
He makes it seem so easy !
Congrats 70k!!!!!
CONGRATS ON 80 K SUBSCRIBERS!!!!!
Cara, muito obrigado, um dos poucos que demonstra as técnicas de forma intuitiva, parabéns pelo trabalho!!
Best vocal coach ive ever seen.
You don't know how much this helped me with understanding false chord screaming.
that’s awesome! so glad to hear it!
Thank you sincerely for these videos!!! Been screaming for years and wasn’t sure where to go for harsh vocal training. Someone told me to check this channel out! My vocal coach I was working with was trying to get me away from it, claimed it damages the chords…but I’m just trying to get more out of doing less. Find myself not using diaphragm sometimes and the voice with crackle occasionally out of breathe during certain parts and no time to breathe, trying to solidify my techniques and I feel this video has a lot of the tips and tricks just for that. Thanks man!
That opinion is really common among more classically trained vocal coaches, however the key is balance! You can injure yourself doing anything with your voice, even just speaking, if not supported properly or practiced in moderation. Glad you found us!
Subscribed. Awesome tips.
Lets get it David :D
duuuudee !!! the movie theater thing was legendary!!! zero hurt in my throat when i did that, crazy. thank you.
OMG thank you sooo much, after watching some of your other videos and this one, I just realised I was pushing WAAAY too hard and WAYY too loud with both my false cords and fry screams. No wonder my throat would hurt immediately after and the next day too. I just thought there was no other way around it and had just accepted it as part of the process. I'm gonna start practicing these now and remember to not push so much.
Your awesome man thanks 😎
okay this is actually probably the most helpful tutorial ive found
pure value🤜🤜
This is the first time I’ve actually made decent sound come out of my mouth😂 thank you!
I love you dude thank you
4:37 I think you just answered my issue, thanks 😊
I thoroughly enjoy the explosive showcases at the end of each video! 🤣🗣
48, just figured it out now today 271021 at 12 mn when all were asleep 😂♥️✌️🇵🇭thanks for your instructional vlogs sir. Your facial expression and hand gesture helps.
everyone else is talking about how it should sound, you got it done in 1 min how it should FEEL - scream is unlocked now - reeeeally appreciate you badass
Thank you so much for this! I'm a huge Mike Patton fan and I really need to learn these things to be able to TRY to sound a lil bit like him. Being a woman, also, it's more difficult to sing low male notes like Machine gun kelly's or Damiano David's.
AT 0:56 I DID IT ACCURATELY WITH HIM HERE AND IT WAS THE COOLEST EXPERIENCE EVER I NEVER KNEW I’D BE ABLE TO DO THAT SIR I LOVE YOU
YESSSS! That’s so sick!
Came here to say the exact same thing!
Dude, you're AMAZING! I'm actually making progress!!! Thank you!!
Unbelievable!!!! I learnt so much from you man, I swear to Lucifer! The way you explain is so clear and straightforward. Others seem to be speaking some kind of a code I definitely don't understand.
One day I was in my car and I kinda just figured out to do the gutterals. For me getting the hang of frys is hard cause I’m so used to false chords but I’m definitely gonna start to practice them
Thank you sooo much for all your help and instruction on developing your metal vocals! I wish I could send u some gratuities, but thanks anyway!!! 😜
Its ultimative exvocal tutorial video. thanks!)
This video actually helped me some with fry scream. Still getting over the initial awkwardness of doing tho
this does help especially fir someone that doesn't do vocals....I noticed I need alot of power to get the "scream/ gutteral" to come out
This man deserves Heaven!
Wow I've been fry screaming along to songs thinking it wasn't a real way to scream. False is so hard for me! Cool to know I'm starting somewhere though
Congratulations, your neighbors are extremely confused at what's going on at your house
U are the best
All I’ve got going for me is the fry scream. That was pretty simple to gain grasp of. I wanna be able to do all of it though
Amazing tutorial, I managed to find my false cord scream in less than 5 minutes with the 30 seconds guide at 0:37 while I never even tried to scream :D
the big problem with screaming though is managing to make clear sentences and not random sounds
Once you’ve got the distortion down start working on vowel sounds! We have courses in our EVI Now program about putting phrases together and pronunciation as well

I DID IIIIIIT GUYYS FINAAAALLY
Your videos are really very informative and teach a perfect technique, but with the false strings technique I have a lot of problems, I can't even make the sigh of the false strings, I've been doing it for about 2 years, I know how to make the low and high gutturals of will ramos, but the false cords are what I can't do, I use as a reference a sigh of false cords with venom's voice, but it is a very drastic transition to combine with the full voice
Hahah awesome videos
youre videos are helpful. i do feel a bit of soreness after practicing for about half an hour or more, but its the similar feeling to loud singing practice for long periods too. is this normal when starting out? false chord and fry screams are amazingly individual.
Thanks for this David! It really helped me develop more in my singing, I practiced some of this and now the neighbors dogs are barking. It's 1am. The police are outside. Help.
B4 I hate this kind of voice, but now I'm crazy for it, please teach me how to sing it. I'm try hard to sing this type of songs.
Will use, trying things other than guterals
3:33 can you please describe what triggers that flip in the intensity of the sound? Is it adjusting the placement, more vocal chord closure, more air, less air, more relaxation? When I fry scream it is unreliable sometimes and can never sound as good as others yet, but I know that I am just steps away from unlocking the key.
i learnt how to do false chord screaming on my own, but now trying to learn how to fry scream is so confusing! I can't differentiate between trying to fry scream vs doing my high false chords
I would've loved to have this sort of thing when I learned how to do vocals. UA-cam wasn't even really a thing when I learned.
Very helpfully, give me a big step forward, thank you so much! 🙂
Only problem I've got: I didn't find that point of this wonderful "gurgely" sound, like yours! Is it a matter of practice or a "sweet point", which I have to find?
Greetz from Germany!
If you are talking about the guttural I am in the same spot - trying to figure out what to do with my tongue, because otherwise it is a normal low false cord scream.
Oh I'm so glad I saw this. So 12 years ago, I did the head voice screaming thing cause I wanted so badly to sound like Phil Labonte when he did his highs. BUT then I couldn't use my normal head voice. Is that normal? Or does that mean I did it wrong?
i love you
I am a false chord vocalist and when I try to fry scream it either begins to hurt and I don't get a proper sound or my muscle memory kicks in and I just do a false chord scream, I really dunno what I am doing wrong but it hurts so it's something with it
False cord pitched screams sound like in between full blown false cord scream and throat singing
Funny how the movie theater example made it easier to understand
Screaming “Hey! HEY!”
Doggo: “Whatever dad”
Any tips for someone with a very deep raspy voice
Hey EVI, I’m sure these kinds of questions are hard to answer but I have been looking to recreate a specific sound for years now, dickie Allen’s tunnel sounding lows. And I can’t seem to figure out how he gets that dry guttural sound that sounds like it comes from the back of his Throat, any idea what I’m talking about?
Dickie Allen reacted to blasphemian or soil the stillborn with another academy where he explains that kind of growl
Practice?
I Can only do to the false chords, as for the fry Im having trouble with projection never seemed able to unlock the projection. Stuck xD
that first breath hurt so much XD
Been trying screams both false and fry screams mainly but my vocal cords are twisted the only way I can scream that sounds even halfway decent is by inhaling and I’m not entirely sure if I’ll even be able to ever actually scream properly
So how do i do the fry scream? Because one who knows fry as well as false chord screaming said the fry scream does not develop from vocal fry, vocal fry is just a way to show the sound and feeling we want but we can't make vocal fry louder to get fry scream
Correct. The fry scream and fry vocal register are different things. If you’re familiar with the false cord scream muscle memory may kick in and take over when you’re trying to produce the sound. There are several different methods here to get the fry scream to happen it may just take some time to get the response you’re looking for. If you’re interested in more specific step-by-step tutorials feel free to check out our EVI Now program on our website: extremevocalinstitute.com/evi-now.
David also teaches privately if you prefer to learn in a one-on-one scenario: extremevocalinstitute.com/private-lessons
Question, when practicing this my throat ends up tickling and feels harsh. What am I doing wrong lol can’t figure it out.
Bro your a wizard. Do not give up, once people catch on to you I think you'll be the biggest harsh vocal how to channel. Kardavox is good, but you explain it alot better and you sound better.
How can I fix my throat from feeing scratchy, it sounds like I'm screaming correctly but I still feel the scratchy ness in my throat after
What do you think of the SM86 for live shows?
Do you indicate any condenser microphone of this type for false cords?
We use all Telefunken mics here! David uses a M81 live and we have a TF47 for studio work but likely getting a TF51 as well in the near future.
Mics are all about preference (and budget) but we do always recommend Telefunken because we believe that they are best suited for extreme vocals!
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute thank you so much for the answer

My throat is kinda worn / hurts, after trying to get a fry scream to work for the first time xD im doing like this : "inhale, hold breath, pretend you get punched in the gut thing" xD will need to practice i think ;)
