Excellent collection of pics there. Weirdly enough I was thinking of driving up to the site at some point this year - just to see what was still there even if from the outside... From the looks of the comments here, there's sod-all left! Such memories! I'm in my mid-30s now and use to go there with Primary School every year!

have fantastic memories of going here as a kid and i worked there during the summer! Although it is really sad that it has gone- it does look beautiful with all the wildlife back- a bit like it used too pre American Adventure when it was Brittania park (remember that?!). Shame they are going to build houses on there now...but it would be great to live there!!

@@andie8989 Random question, I know. But do you ever remember some garbage bins there that made a noise (some kind of rawr I think) once you put litter inside? I was only a little kid when I used to go but that’s one of the few memories I seem to have of the place along with the Wild West show they would have and also the place you would eat which had 3 or large Indian 4 faces above the entrance. Or am I crazy? 😆 I never had anything like the same feels for Alton Towers as this place gave me.

you think everything will last forever, but it won't. Ask your parents and elders what they see around them.... i wonder what the place will be when im 80 (now 21) looking back on my childhood memories with a tear in my eye...

For reference, American Adventure would have been reopened in early 2006 if Derbyshire County Council had let us purchase it, but they had "other plans" for the site, and insisted it was no good for a theme park site as the subsidance was too bad. From what I hear 4 years on its now completely flattened and still stood doing nothing.

Was there a few weeks ago - almost entirely demolished by now. Plans to redevelop it as a college are frozen now due to the credit crunch. The site is fallow, and will likely remain so for a while. Still worth a visit though...

I to missed it when it had closed. we used to take our 2 sons there almost every week. We had season tickets for quite a few years. The Log Flume was one of my favorites and the Big Dipper that wasn't realy all that big. and the prirate ship but my very very favorite was the Motion Master Cinima which was just brilliant. Sad it was allowed to get so run down as in this day and age we all need some fun and we all need some jobs.

I was in derbyshire, with my grandparents, brother and cousin. In the house we were staying in, we fond some leaflets for attractions around the area. One of them was about the American Adventure. It had prices, and a map of the park. So we decided to go there.
Using TomTom, we got there. All we could see was a big chain fence blocking the entrance. We could see no theme park. It was completley gone. Nothing was there, only the remains of the park. It was horrible.

This was always a half arsed theme park. I lived locally and visited when I got a discount ticket but the only God things were the flume, rapids and motion master cinema. You could walk around the lake a dozen times and be bored rigid after going on everything in the first hour there. The food was expensive as were the gift shops and I never forgave DCC for allowing the park to be built in such a beautiful area. I used to ride ponies in Shipley Park before Britannia Park/American Adventure and saw my first ever dragonflies and watched windsurfers and sailing dingies and there was even a Park Ranger who allowed access to the stables. They closed as were within the theme park boundary and were later used for the horses in the AA Wild West show. Of course they're going to build on the site now but future homeowners will have nothing but trouble with subsidence from the old colliery as that's why the grand Shipley Hall was demolished as well as some AA building and rides. The area is best left to nature but they've already bulldozed the trees which took over after the park closed. It's a sad situation.
