Looks similar to the car(s) my daughter and I rode in on their 'Santa Claus' run back in '98. I snapped a few shots of their locomotives standing by the repair shed back in '09. I wasn't hurried off of the property but they were bustling that day in boarding a school outing. I aim to get back there and capture some HD video later this year as the train makes its way through and out of New Hope. Thanks for putting your video up, 'Livardo'.
Thanks for posting -- FYI, These train cars, locos and other RR equipment have NOT been abandoned...On the contrary, they are there in storage, to be used for the local NH&IL RR tourist train and / or awaiting either future restoration or sale to other tourist lines or RR museums throughout the country. NH&IL RR is to be commended for their commitment to store, salvage, restoration & sales of these rare items for future generations to enjoy.
I agree with everything you said. There are so many critics who point fingers at others in every aspect of life. I don't do much with historic railway equipment as I spend too much time of my day to day job working with the real things. But what I do see saddens me. So many say "something should be done"...but very few step up to the plate. There's always an excuse.
The New Hope and Ivyland Railroad (reporting mark NHRR)[1] is a shortline railroad in Pennsylvania. It also operates a heritage railroad, offering passenger excursions. The NHRR provides contract track and locomotive services to freight and passenger railroads in North America and has been involved with various film and television commercial projects. ***this excerpt was taken from their website***
That is a great video! I would love to do that some day! The only remaining abandoned tracks around my area have recently been removed as a rails to trails project...depressing. I was waiting until this time of year to walk them because of the overgrowth in the summer.
In the beginning that was NH&I C30-7 7087. In the green wrap (as far as I know) should be the open air coach that is undergoing restoration. Behind that is the baggage car that is used for extra seating and is used on NH&I Railfan Weekend excursions. -Jim
We just explored the old Buckingham Valley Railway Station which is part of the New Hope Ivyland railroad. It's falling to decay and one of the old rail cars is just a shell. You might want to have a look, it's in our channel.. would be interested in what you have to say. Of course, it's been over ten yrs since you uploaded NH Abandoned trains, revisited so I'm hoping you're still around.
I think some of them are still there. One thing to note is that they use the line to store cars which they use for their "tourist train". Some of the cars though have been sitting there for a while.
the engine you see at the head of this group (unless they have 2 of them) has been restored, or at least nicely repainted. I saw it sitting in the yard at Lansdale, PA this past weekend (obviousuly this post is several years after the fact). Not sure why it is in Lansdale or which route it took to get there but sure enough it is sitting there. Looks way to nice to be staying there much longer.
I know this was a long time ago but these trains & track were never abandoned. This is the New Hope & Ivyland RR in New Hope PA. A tourist line located on Bridge & Stockton Sts.The rough looking cars are waiting for rehab.
COOL!... its really rare that you will actually come across a steam engine at one of these places... hell, its hard enough to come by one of those old F-7 Locomotives from the 50s...
I agree. My response was addressing freight railroads making this commitment. Not tourist lines. My bad. I can understand the sentiment around the 'block them at crossing" comment.
I can tell you're a NHIR employee. Am I right? I go back there once in a while on my bike just to check on things, and I do rememeber that caboose you mentioned. It was orange, and was a former Northampton & Bath relic if I'm right. I know of the other caboose that sat out in Buckingham for a few years until during the Sandy storm when both diesels came back with a tanker and that caboose. Hopefully that caboose can be restored soon, because NHIR has been caboosless since the '80s.
Oh. I thought the open air car was done by now. Last time I was there the only equipment I could see being restored was the boiler of the NdeM Niagara and what was under the tarp. When will that thing be done?
The right reply, Boss302fan! It´s the same here in Germany. The same comments: "Oh, why isn´t somebody saving those engines?" "Why didn´t someone saved this old railwayline?" etc, etc. But when you call for help....simple help to cut free the tracks of an allready excisting museum line....NOBODY is showing up. Nobody. The world is FULL of old rotting railway stuff. Including steam engines. But the majority of all those thousands of railway fans is only talking. Not helping.
These aren't in BC. there in New Hope PA. I used to work on that railroad. he was traveling north past the station . the cars that you see in the begining have been pushed back there because they are only used when there are two trains running. the other ones are in line for restoration. the locomotive you see is #9 an 0-6-0 its been sitting there since the 70's. the tender is from #7 which was #9s sister, she was scrapped in the 60's. thre is also two other locomotives that you don't see.
None, as far as i know for the # 9 the 4-6-4 is was going to be restored to runn with # 40 the 2-8-0 thats in service, but its too heavy for the tracks, so there either going to sell it or scrap it. the last engine was the 1542 i think, it is directly behind the shop, it might be up for restoration since the 4-6-4 isn't. but i left before anything was finalized.
Is the road a old abandoned US hwy as well? Looks like old striping, the "white solid line" used back in the days when these cars / locomotives were rolling! "The day the earth stood still!" :-O
@gregbassace1 This is in Newhope PA, I'm not familiar with that town but I live in Maryland which is a neighboring state. Can you imagine what it would cost to transport these cars to Australia? I would guess that probably whoever owns them now would be willing to sell them, but I would imagine it would involve some serious money getting them to Australia.
i actually hate to say it, but NHIR should really take everything out of the old CNJ mail car #72 because its used for storage right now; the floor is rotting away so i dont think its a good idea to keep coach seats in there or whatever else... basically, they are too far gone, so they should drag the mail car, NYC parlor #2004, and the former NYSW boxcar #9811 thats currently there to Wycombe so they could rust with THE OTHERS... that way theres more room in New Hope...
I like the title that says it's an ABANDONED train. I'll bet the investor who owns it wouldn't agree that it's abandoned. Looks more like it's parked in affordable STORAGE to me. I wouldn't mess around inside someone's railcars without an invite or approval from the owner. Chances are good that if anyone spots you, they can video record you and tell the cops you were doing vandalism. You would find yourself responsible for repairing vandalism done 5 years ago, and you wouldn't have an alibi.
I'd give ANYTHING to get these cars to Australia, if no museum in America wants them. They look like they're on Standard Gauge & our loading gauge could accomodate them. Perfect for a 59 Class Baldwin Mikado to pull in New South Wales!! I'll share this with my friends here. Where is this location?
The point is: If all those railwayfans really would organize and collect money....they really could put a lot of historic rolling stock into service again. But they don´t. They don´t even joining allready excisting projects to help at least with their monthly member contributions. I know so many museum railways with rotting rolling stock. Including steam engines. They´ve sometimes more than 100 members. But only the same 10 people are showing up to work.
There's a large network of paths around here. I had just got back from a long walk when I filmed this. A lot of people have commented on my heavy breathing so I'll just say this. I was out of shape when I recorded this. I think I was 270lbs. But HEY, I was trying to get in shape!. I've lost most of the weight now but back then I sounded like Tony Soprano in one of those episodes where people complained he was breathing or eating too heavily. Cheers, go out and explore, eat, drink and be happy.
Norman Jaquemot New hope Pa. It was in a RR magazine a few years back the steam loco(s) are in storage the diesel electric and passenger cars are used now.
Norman Jaquemot its not a museum. Its a active freight rr which does occasional rr trip. And I am afraid the only ones I know worked on these when they ran.
This should be a capital offence! Who ever did this should watch as their pretty little Corvete, is dumped in the forrest and should come back in say oh IDK 45, 50 years, somethin' like that.
I hate it that people cannot respect other people's property and just living things alone. Taking pictures and video is fine but it's hard to trust anyone nowadays.
What should they do, spend stock-holders money to salvage it? Or invest in more locomotives or ties so they can better move the freight they have in a competitive environment. For me, railroads should invest in the future...not the past.
Well hell. Step right up then. You be the someone. Why point to others and be pissed as shit because others won't do something. You do it. Maybe you have the thousands or tens of thousands of dollars it takes to restore or transport this equipment (if it can even be interchanged). Most museums are hard pressed to keep the equipment they already have preserved. Saddened? I can see it. Pissed? Unless you are willing to step up, don't be.
Did I said NOBODY is showing up?Allways the SAME few guys are showing up to work and to collect money. Those are the few stupid ones (in every railway club there are round about 10 of them), who are doing all the work. The rest of the club members are showing up, when everthing is ready. Then those people, who didn´t do anything are critizising those, who did all the work. The "best" of those critics are of course those, who aren´t even club members and didn´t even helped with money.
I really appreciate the effort it must have taken to get these shots. Thanks for posting them here.

i'm glad theres still trains in the weeds, makes exploring all the more enjoyable!

those are absolutely beautiful

Thanks for the video. We're about to check this area out for a filming location. :)

this is sick could you possibly get more vids like this???

these are surprisingly pretty well preserved, where did you shoot this video?
The right reply, Boss302fan!

Is this in New Hope PA? If so where exactly is it I live not that far from there but I never saw these trains. What street is it on or near?
These aren't in BC. there in New Hope PA.

Kept waiting for something to jump out!
So whatever happened to the train? Have you been back?

what happened to these ? are they still there?
I like how you walked between the engine and the car. That is a taboo on the railroad and will get you a) killed or b) fired.
Is That GE C36-7 Still There
Is the road a old abandoned US hwy as well? Looks like old striping, the "white solid line" used back in the days when these cars / locomotives were rolling! "The day the earth stood still!" :-O
did you check if they left the keys in?
Spicoli-I can fix this! My dads a TV repairman. He's got this ultimate set of tools!
You are looking at some pretty cool stuff. A little tip, don't move your camera so quickly. It's almost enough to make the viewer seasick. Thanks!
Why is the C30-7 there?
@gregbassace1 This is in Newhope PA, I'm not familiar with that town but I live in Maryland which is a neighboring state. Can you imagine what it would cost to transport these cars to Australia? I would guess that probably whoever owns them now would be willing to sell them, but I would imagine it would involve some serious money getting them to Australia.
@livardo why are you breathing so heavy? You're just walking?!
That steam loco that you got has been moved to SMS Rails for restoration. It's and 0-6-0
What is the address of this place?
didn't you get a chance to capture the inside of other carriages
New Hope PA?
where were you? please tell me
Notice at 1:16 that coach had "New Hope" on the side. :')
I wonder if there is rolling stock out there that has been parked up and forgotten about over time.
i actually hate to say it, but NHIR should really take everything out of the old CNJ mail car #72 because its used for storage right now; the floor is rotting away so i dont think its a good idea to keep coach seats in there or whatever else... basically, they are too far gone, so they should drag the mail car, NYC parlor #2004, and the former NYSW boxcar #9811 thats currently there to Wycombe so they could rust with THE OTHERS... that way theres more room in New Hope...
That 1st unit wouldnt happen to be C30-7 7087??
I like the title that says it's an ABANDONED train. I'll bet the investor who owns it wouldn't agree that it's abandoned. Looks more like it's parked in affordable STORAGE to me.

Where exactly is this?
@railwaymguy that would be trespassing which he already committed by stepping up onto the coaches.
Where is this location?
well at least it looks like their might be some hope for these old cars
how many abandoned trains are there
The point is:
If all those railwayfans really would organize and collect money....they really could put a lot of historic rolling stock into service again.

I hope he's ok...he's laboring just from the walk...
Sounds good .. upload it and attach as a video response to this one if you'd like.
Is there a scrapyard in this area? Cockroach2008 claims his scrapyard is here.
There's a large network of paths around here. I had just got back from a long walk when I filmed this. A lot of people have commented on my heavy breathing so I'll just say this. We have three steam engines and a few other pieces right down the road sitting in the wood waiting to be saved. I have a video if your interested.
wonder if the 12 wheeled loco runs(fiirst one)
i think this is a storage track myself lol these things look to new to be abandoned
Ah, now we see what RR is in control here
I have somewhat good news, that 0-6-0 is currently under restoration
and now its done
note to everyone watching this* these are not abandoned they were being stored while the yard was being rebuilt.
Norman Jaquemot ah there freight only and currently only have a small shack for wheel replacements and refueling I believe.
Brendan Wilson yeh they don't do normal tourist trains just on occasion.
Norman Jaquemot yeh but at this point they may just throw up some OSB or just leave it.
This should be a capital offence! Who ever did this should watch as their pretty little Corvete, is dumped in the forrest and should come back in say oh IDK 45, 50 years, somethin' like that.
look up new hope and ivyland they are still in sevice and are a tourist train
there a places like this in britain they store locos an rolling stock til they can be fixed up
so shameful to see them in that state
Too many people seem obsessed with trespass angle, the guy is only videoing stuff.
could you start it
u know what they say "one mans trash is another mans treasure" that means if i see an abandon train i will keep it!!!!!
I hate it that people cannot respect other people's property and just living things alone. Taking pictures and video is fine but it's hard to trust anyone nowadays.
I fail bad for that train at 3:46 it looks like some one blew it up! : (
Some of those cars should be re-lettered as No Hope.
Good news is that most of the passenger cars seen here are used in service today
my friends and i get on the trains if we can and break anything we can lol
looks like the the 4-8-4 loco has gone.
wow. I'm glad taggers havnt found their way to these trains yet.
They plan on restoring those eye sores, takes alot of time to finish and alot of money.
What should they do, spend stock-holders money to salvage it? Or invest in more locomotives or ties so they can better move the freight they have in a competitive environment.
For me, railroads should invest in the future...not the past.
Abandoned trains would not have large tarps covering them.
is the train track abandoned
Yep
No it's just the end of the tracks and a storage track on the New Hope railroad
Are you kidding me? I was in New Hope last summer and I didn't see this??? shit.
Wasn't talking, was writing.
trains are spooky abandoned
aha one of the trains says ' NEW HOPE ' On the side of it . its at 1:19 lol, theres no hope for that train !
i hope they restore the steam engine
nice alco
Christmas, that heavy breathing: I had to stop watching half way through. This video is the perfect candidate for an audio swap.
not abandoned, i went on train yesterday ^.^
I dont, i was much different then as opposed to now, yes it is sad and all but if you dont have the money to do anything, dont get all mad and upset..
Well hell. Step right up then.
You be the someone. Why point to others and be pissed as shit because others won't do something.

that be kool
well the passenger cars did anyways
Did I said NOBODY is showing up?Allways the SAME few guys are showing up to work and to collect money.

watch out i live near trains also!
Nope.. I took the liberty of documenting the state of the car regardless.
Those cars and engines where t in storage tell they rhe tj
FYI they're NOT abandon. You being there is trespassing.
i believe its LUGO'ed
Aye, take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.
Someone needs to scrap that eye sore!
thear still thear and running ever day its newhope pa
