1:26 dati in Serbian actually comes from the Latin word “dare”. In the third person singular (dat) “dare” gains that “t”, that became a “j” in Serbian due to a consonant shift.
Today is my first day learning Serbian. Thank you very much. I feel knowledge of Russian can be advantageous plus I was surprised to see Serbian use the same word for money as is used in Turkish. 😎👍
I think that you could add the phrase "jok" its often used in Serbian language and it could be usefull for stranger when they hear it in Serbia or any balkan country
I did mention it in my book "Zdravo Serbia"! You can use it and you will hear it sometimes, but it's a borrowing from Turkish, and this time I tried to stick to Serbian equivalents :) But you are right!
Almost the same, "spremi" could be used for ex. lunch, "spremi ručak" (make/prepare lunch) here you can not say "pospremi", or "spremi se za školu"(get ready for the school) also you can't use "pospremi" here. "Pospremi" means "to clean up/tidy up" mostly, but "spremi" means the same, plus to prepare something.
You know, I realized that I usually use an accent from Subotica when I pronounce isolated phrases in Serbian, which is funny :D I guess I do it because I want to pronounce it as clearly and as melodic as possible (so that it sticks to your head), but it ends up sounding like an accent that I don't use in everyday life :)
I would use ‘daj meni vodu’ it if you want to stress that it is ‘you’ who wants water, not anyone else, or stress that you want ‘water’ and not any other drink 🙂
