    My ancestors used the Rock Sling as a primary weapon of war since way before BC periods. They did not use regular rocks. They shaped various types of rocks into the shape of a football because they discovered that it can cause more damage as you can imagine. I am from the Marianas Islands (a U.S. territory) and my people are called the "Chamorros". Great video tutorial!

    A few years back, I found this video and then made a lot of slings. I actually got pretty good at it and could launch a rock in a straight line or straight up so it makes a cool noise when the rock goes on the water

    Excellent Tutorial. I made one and it works great,, Now that I have it adjusted to match my "Bow draw length".
    My bow draw is 27.5 inches plus 1'' is 28.5 inches. So measuring from the center of the sling out to 28.5 inches
    plus the bow line slip knot. Thus making the total length of the sling 57 inches.
    I started out with 12 foot or cord as suggested, and when completed I had exactly 36 inches of waste.
    Now I know when making future slings I only need 9 foot total

    Nice video, i really like it, might try that out sometime soon.
    A tiny remark though, the step just before the "rabbit ears" where you measure out about two feet, is completely unnecessary, because you slide to the knot and adjust from there. Just start with one loop directly adjacent to the knot and you get the same result.

    you asked me to comment in the video, and I thought this whole paracord sling thing was an AMAZING idea. I was wondering if you could make a video showing it in use?
    You say in the video that it is in no way accurate. Is that because of how you use it?
    Or is it not POSSIBLE to get accurate with this kind of sling?
    I consider this a survival item, and another FANTASTIC use of Paracord, which is itself a fantastic utility.
    Thanks for this excellent video!

  • @CrimsonSkyz500

    If you're planning on making this sling.
    Keep in mind
    1. Tighten it a lot.
    2. Take 14 or 15 feet.
    3. Tighten constantly
    I made one just now and it took about half an hour to an hour? I ran out of cord and the pouch was pretty loose.

    • @cryhavoc9748
      @cryhavoc9748 6 років тому

      CrimsonSkyz -You left out number 4: Take 20mg of Valium before you start !

    • @Varaldar
      @Varaldar 5 років тому

      i second all of this.
      seriously use more than 12 feet, i ended up with about 4 passes left to do and enough cord for maybe 2. not counting the length you need to grab on to and have it match the other side, its not enough.
      tighten it constantly but make sure that it stays spread, the first one i ended up with i was sure to tighten it but it was far too narrow because i made it too tight in the horizontal axis.
      I would just skip measuring the cord and have too much then cut it off when you are done, that way you dont run out and you dont have any small scraps unless you only had a small scrap to cut off in the first place (but reducing the cuts reduces waste)

    If you want to increase the effectiveness and accuracy of this thing, incorporate it into a staff sling. I made a couple of those that were about five feet long. The leverage they give you will propel the projectile of your choice at some impressive velocities. What ever you choose to launch with one should be pretty heavy though.

  • @mweir6336
    @mweir6336 10 років тому

    Do you have any videos for this sling in action? Where I would go to practice with these, I'm not sure if the average rock found there will fit in the area provided by these. I mainly would just like to see the size of rocks you use.
    Also, if using a longer paracord (such as 15 feet) would the first specifications stay the same (36 inches and 2 feet) or would they increase? This is still awesome. Good job.

    I made one out of braided hemp string years ago. I just tied on to thick piece of leather. I'd like to try to make a pouch like you did but just with braided hemp string. The problem with paracord I find is the material stretches when u release your rock/ammo thus taking away power and velocity. If you could do one with braided string that'd be great thanks

    • @WeekendGunners
      @WeekendGunners  9 років тому

      Aaron Gill I measure just the paracord without the buckle. I then add an inch. SO a 8 inch wrist uses 9 foot of cord and measures between 8 1/2 to 9 inches depending on how the person wants the fit (Tight or loose).

    Once again I find myself not even being able to do anything except making a knotted up mess out of my effort. So much for being "easy" but it's okay,I'll just make me a custom fabricated pocket and just use two strings instead of one and that way,it would be nearly impossible to fail as it would not require involving any of that hard weaving sort of crap. Still,it's a nice piece you made there,but I've never been good at anything beyond tying a double knot with my shoes or whatever. LOL!
