Bruce Lee was not just great in martial art, but acting, which many downplay. He had the magnetism that few have, and would've been a superstar. And maybe even made non action films.
I read an interview about an British film/stage actress who had worked with Sir Lawrence Olivier. She said when she saw Bruce Lee onscreen, "I though he was the greatest actor I've ever seen.' Her name: Sarah Miles. I've tried to online the quote, but can't find it. But I did read the article.

Bruce Lee was and still is the Greatest Of All Time martial artist because he put all in as an authentic, honest, passionate, and visionary human being and peaked at 32 years old in all 5 spheres of development: physically, spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and socially. Thanks to that maturity, he was on an unselfish mission to connect the human family by opening his culture to the world. IMHO that is why he just made total sense in his undertakings. A true example of dedication, achievement, and transcendence. The World misses you, Bruce!

I did kungfu too, but that was really hard because they focused on perfection and I was too old. The kungfu instructor’s business card had multiple styles listed and weapons. We could learn grappling too in Chinese Martial Arts. Knew I was not athletic and smart as the top students and focused on schoolwork instead.

When I was a kid, I fell in love with kung-fu movies with Jackie Chan. I was looking forward to seeing each and every new movie and going home after the movies I was trying to imitate some of his moves. So I accidentally discovered parkour before that name made this type of movement popular. But at home I had a poster with Bruce Lee which mesmerized me. Without having ever seen him moving around in my mind Bruce Lee was The Legend. Relatively late in my life I started myself practicing martial arts and I did this with all my heart for about 20 years. This gave enough insight in what martial arts is all about. There I discovered that what Bruce Lee said was right in a great depth. Of course lately I've seen many movies also with Jet Lee. So I'm very proud of all of them because they inspired me to go this path and discover the grace of martial arts, and help myself become a better person. "Ultimately martial arts is about honestly expressing yourself... " (Bruce Lee). That's very true to me.

Bruce Lee IS famous. When it comes to martial arts and even street fighting or just fistfighting in general, Bruce Lee's name is always mentioned. Especially when there's an Asian involved. Yet you don't need to be Chinese or Asian in general to know Bruce Lee. So many people knows who he is. He's darn famous, all over the globe but i think Jackie Chan is just as famous too if not more but, Bruce Lee is more revered than Jackie Chan while Chan is seen as an entertainer with great onscreen choreography and comedy combined. Personally i think Bruce Lee is a legitimate badass while Jackie Chan... yeah, just an entertainer. No offense to Chan and his fanboys(& fangirls).

    • @Yeino

@@5Othniel7_Selah you're absolutely right. Jackie Chan is a famous stuntman and actor. Even if Bruce Lee was also an actor, he's mainly known for having created Jeet Kune Do. Many think JKD is a martial art, but it's not. It's more of a concept about not using a fixed style while interception the opponent's action. His concept is known all around the world.
If I can be honest, I'd say he was a famous fighters, more than a martial artist. He's mixed many into one concept, willing to revolutionize the martial arts world.
As a famous fighter, I would immediately think about Li Lian Jie (Jet Li). He's won many competitions, from Sanda to Wushu tao demonstrations. And he's now as famous as Bruce Lee could be as an actor.
Another famous fighter and actor is Donnie Yuen, since the Ip Man movies. I already used to watch him in action movies back in 80's, but his career really rose up when he acted in Ip Man first movie.
Another famous stuntman an actor is Liu Chia-Hui (Gordon Liu) who acted in many Shaw Brothers movies, and even in Kill Bill. His older brother was famous too : Liu Chia-Liang.
I know many others but it's probably because of my Chinese origins, culturally influenced, and also probably because of the decade in which I've grown up.

From what I understand, he holds a personal philosophy of retaining only what he needs, and giving the rest back to his community. You could say that Bruce Lee was the original MMA fighter since he took elements of various fighting styles to create Jeet Kun Do. IMHO his greatest contribution to us was that he believed anyone should be able to learn martial arts. At the time there was still a lot of ethnocentrism in the Asian martial arts community against teaching Westerners the more advanced styles and techniques and he opened it up to all.

@@TheRealSephiroth there are three sides to this story. The day after, when Man was at work, another party who knew about the fight, went there and saw his wound, which kinda goes towards the claim of Man. Man also addressed the issue immediately, he didn't wait until after Lee passed.
Basically, you had two hot heads trying to prove themselves better than the other. It had nothing to do with the right to teach non westerners.
And yes, all three sides had embellishments. Even Man's claim to intentionally hold back his most 'lethal' moves. I marked lethal with ' ' because if you've trained to that point, you could still hurt someone without it being lethal, especially since he alleged Lee opened with a cheap shot whil we bowing.

I been in martial arts when I was 4 years old. My father is my Sencei. Traditional Shoto Kan Karate. A thrust side kick using your hips fully extended, using the knife edge of your foot some call it a push kick. A push front kick well also send you flying as well. You see a lot of these kicks in MMA kickboxing, Karate and so on. These were my favorites kicks in point fighting in tournaments When you are focusing on speed and not so much on power.
How ever in full contact in a boxing ring I used it to set up to put him in the corner and run with him. He is going backwards and I'm moving forward and yes and start throwing punches like crazy because he is already of balance by the time he hits the corner ropes. This same method of kick can send him flying against the ropes and hoping he will bounce off being off balance setting him up for what ever. In MMA you have a steel gage that makes it harder due that your can't rely on the ropes. But you sure can smack him harder against a steel gage That causes more injuries when it comes to ground and pound while his head is leaning against the gage and pinned down due that you are also top of him. Ask my favorite guy in MMA Chuck Liddell The Ice man. He mastered it then others followed.
How ever when using less thrust, leg not fully straiten using your hips as a snap side kick using the heal and not so much the knife edge of the foot is more powerful and done properly he'll drop right where he is standing or buckle forward dropping his head and arms down. You can kill a man if you get him in kidneys, liver or heart . The same kick can break a mans back and leave him in a wheel chair for life even possible death.
This same kick apply to a low side kick to the front or side of the knees will no doubt break if done right. In my prime days I was 5 foot 7 and 145lbs. medium built from the age of 15 until the age of 25. and my nick name my friends will joke around and say there's Bruce.
Yes a lot of push ups sit ups and massive stretching is the key for all your body not just your legs and not to do any form of weights of any kind. In the Dojo with the right partner you don't need weights. Get your partner in horse stance. Throw yourself at him and wrap your legs around his chest or hips and do not touch the floor while do it and, do your sit ups and punch him as hard in the chest at the same time. Its a work out for two. Do it on matts to start.
Take your time and start slow. We never had matts. Concrete floor was our matts. There is no matts on the streets. That is why real martial artist like Sencei Ed Parker, Chuck Norris, Bob Wall, Joe Louis , Bill Wallace and a good friend of my father all who knew Bruce, that Physical training of the whole body and mind was important to Bruce. And you can see it for yourself. Always remember there is always someone better then you. In the Dojo after class I would say ... So train harder but, smarter with a good partner. Thank you and take care. Feel free to reply. It is nice to meet up with new friends.

I've always known Jet Li is of the humble sort of man and fighter, but to hear him speak so highly, with admiration, of Bruce Lee puts him on a whole different level of "humble" than I realized. He did and does a very honorable thing in sharing these thoughts and feelings about a fellow martial artist in a world that where putting others down for competition's sake is the norm. Much respect to Jet Li and may Bruce Lee rest in peace.

Martial arts has had 48 years to grow since Bruce left. Traditional fighting styles will always stay the same but how they are trained has grown. Some the best MMA fighters are just now applying some of what Bruce was adapting technique then. You would have to realize Bruce would have even progressed further in 48 years as long as his body could keep up physically if he never developed the edema condition to compare more to Jet Li. Bruce was no doubt the greatest martial arts fighter, just from mentality, techniques, unbelievable natural speed, training and innovation.

Jeet kune do... Which was way back then. And proves Bruce was way ahead of his time. Yes , Karate was already in America and started to get bigger in the early 60s BUT what Bruce Lee brought to the table was a whole different ball game !

Just because they weren't in a real life fight doesn't mean they're real fighters or not. Jet li was never in a real life fight due to him knowing it wouldn't end right for the person provoking it.
