While understand that music is subjective but here are a few bands that I think you should consider, Skyhooks - living in the 70's, Sherbert - Howzat, Billy Thorpe - Most People I Know, Axiom - Little Ray of Sunshine and Masters Aprentices - Because I Love You
My main criticism would be the lack of so many acts from the 60s and 70s. Surely the Seekers would have to be on this list, international trailblazers for Aussie music, just so iconic. Then the Bee Gees, Olivia Newton-John, Helen Reddy, Air Supply, the Little River Band, Russel Morris, the Mixtures, New World and Kevin Johnson. Maybe even Frank Ifield needs a mention. Great to see the Easybeats here, that song still sounds great today! Thanks for the chart, a lot of fun. PS Of course number 1 should be Daddy Cool's Eagle Rock such a phenomenon at the time.
As a Brazilian growing up in the 80's your list didn't ringed a bell so much. Specially on the top 10. I touch my self and the Australian crawl one were bigger here then any top 10 except for the men at work

Maybe they will never get the esteem of the previous generations but I think its just something that takes time and nostaliga to really kick in.
Eagle Rock was literally my last cut song on the list. Its on the honourable mention list of course though. Time will tell on the newer Australian artists. That is why the songs at the top of the list are older songs. Those that have stood the test of time hold more prestige in my opinion. I still wanted to represent some newer aus songs in this video though and I picked the ones that I think will/have aged well so far. If I had a bone to pick with Eagle Rock, it would be that over time the song has not taken too seriously, which i guess is why it just missed out.

As a fellow Australian music lover, I do agree with the choices you've chosen being classic hits when looking at music channels on Foxtel like Channel V and Max which will be missed
Thank you for the effort you've put into this great video! Along with some other commenters, I can think of some artists and songs that might have deserved a place on your list. Among them would be: "Stranded" by The Saints, "The Real Thing" by Russell Morris, any of the Seekers' massively influential songs, "Massachusetts" or "To Love Somebody" and anything from the movie Saturday Night Fever by the Bee Gees, and something by Kylie Minogue (the highest-selling female Australian artist of all time).
Damn there are some songs on here that are only really known here in Aus i was expecting alot of chart toppers in the US like Joker and the Thief - Wolfmother.

Anyone that suggests that the top songs might change in the future is surely forgetting that these songs don't just disappear as they'll still be around and still be up there.
You’re probably right about his age as their no comprehension of history and most of the records they chose sounded all one style. Total rubbish as far as I’m concerned as they missed out so many better songs and singers.
The real Top 30 in no particular order, Eagle Rock, Khe Sahn, Most People I know, Because I love You, Long way to The top, World Of Our Own, Georgie Girl, Never Find Another You, Carnival is Over, Living in the 70's, Lygon St, You're The Voice, Help Is on the way, Highway to Hell, Real Thing, Golden Miles, The Horses, Shout, What About Me, Friday On My Mind, Sorry, Women, Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face, Flame Trees, Shine, Reminiscing, Sounds Of Then, Boys in Town, Throw your Arms, What About Me
Yes, I am younger than 30, but I definitely tried to put my age bias aside. Only 5 of the included songs were released after the year 2000 and the entire top 10 are songs that have stood the test time. I deliberately put emphasis on these types of songs higher in the list, because in my opinion the longer a song stands a test of time the greater it becomes. So therefore the newer songs were lower in the list and the older songs were higher in the list. By your comment I'm assuming one of two things. You only watched the first 5 songs, or you just don't think anything that has come out post 2000 is worth your time. Fair enough if that is your opinion, but its not one that I agree with.
@@solitudeausmusic Thank you for your timely response. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. You are correct to say we do not agree and that is ok. Music often creates differing opinions. A differing opinion just comes down to personal choice and/or personal taste. Thank you for confirming the correctness of my original comment. Age inevitably plays a part on us all when it comes to musical tastes. That's just the way it is, sorry if you felt any negativity in that regard. Also, both of your assumptions were incorrect. 1/ I did watch and listen to the full video 2/ I did not mention 'post 2000' or any other date. Perhaps I had also made an incorrect assumption when I read the video's tittle. I assumed the top 30 Aussie songs of all time was going to be an historical view of Australia's music progression rather than a personal viewpoint. Either way, no harm done. Thanks for the original upload. Cheers.
@@solitudeausmusic You did your best and I enjoyed this video . Thanks for including Men At Work , John Farnham and Crowded House . The Bee Gees did spend alot of time in Australia growing up , but originated from The Isle of Man so I understand not mentioning them , but for me Natalie Imbruglia was a pin up of mine and Olivia Newton-John was great too . The Seekers were a massive Australian group , but they were mainly having hits in the 60s and 70s . they did some great songs , but were probably well before your time . Thanks for this video !
That’s hilarious you think that was AC/DC’s most famous song. I don’t even remember what you said but it wasn’t Highway to Hell or Back in Black so it’s objectively wrong lol
Shame on who ever put this top 30 together but it appalling there are so many great songs that stand above those songs and one that always stands out to me is Redgum. I was only 19
For reference, I am 16 years old living in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. In my opinion, this list isn’t particularly great. However, I think we can all agree that we can disagree over listings of Australian songs because our small country has produced so many great songs of varying musical genres. But I fear for the future of Australian music. Outside of Tame Impala, who is there of true quality? Haven’t heard from Vance Joy in a while, Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy’s times at the top have probably come to their end as well as the Hilltop Hoods. Bands like Ocean Alley are very good, but unfortunately go under the radar and do not receive the recognition they should. I see this as also being a byproduct of the decline of the Australian/ANZAC spirit and pride in this country. We are now paying the price for the incompetence of our politicians in wider society.
Yankee here, late to the party, who thought he was up on your auzzie s++t. Anyhow, don't recognize half of these. Hunters &Collectors should be Betty or the Slab. INXS should be The Main Thing, Crowded House should be something by Split Enz, if you're going that far. Kylie Minogue , men at work, and divinely are spot on.

I completely agreed with the list as presented. Until I read the comments and of course, the Seekers, Russell Morris, Billy Thorpe etc. but they are all brilliant pieces of music.
Actually, the most common description I have heard for Crowded House is "Australia-New Zealand band". Singer/songwriter/guitarist Neil Finn is from New Zealand, having come to fame playing for his brother Tim's band Split ENZ. However, after Split ENZ broke up, Neil went to Melbourne, where he formed Crowded House with Australians Paul Hester (RIP) and Nick Seymour.

I guess this is a reflection of your age rather than a look into the top of Australian music.
1/ I did watch and listen to the full video
2/ I did not mention 'post 2000' or any other date.
Perhaps I had also made an incorrect assumption when I read the video's tittle. I assumed the top 30 Aussie songs of all time was going to be an historical view of Australia's music progression rather than a personal viewpoint. Either way, no harm done.
Thanks for the original upload. Cheers.
@@graeme02 fair enough, good thoughts :)
You can't put Evie in the top 30? Completely devalues the list.
it was on the honourable mentions if that is any consolation
That’s hilarious you think that was AC/DC’s most famous song. I don’t even remember what you said but it wasn’t Highway to Hell or Back in Black so it’s objectively wrong lol
No Air Supply or The Seekers, what’s going on?
Shame on who ever put this top 30 together but it appalling there are so many great songs that stand above those songs and one that always stands out to me is
Redgum.
I was only 19
1. Never Tear Us Apart
2. Don’t Dream It’s Over
Dont dream its over? Kiwis, not australian.

Stupid List. The Seekers: I am Australian !!!
No Olivia Newton-John on this list? Physical deserves a spot, or is she not enough Austrailan in your mind?
I guess "The Saints" are "Stranded" off of this list
No mention of the late great Billy Thorpe, nor Evie parts 1,2 and 3, one of the greatest rock anthems ever.
not so fun fact: Into My Arms was written for Michael Hutchence, singer for INXS, who died a few years prior.
Not including Live It Up by Mental As Anything? Just wow.
Except that Split Enz was very definitely an NZ band
For me this is a poor list ! Where is Sky hooks ,Olivia N. John , The Models , Christie Allen , Dragon , John Paul Young , Ol 55s, Mate i can name a lot more bands and songs that this top,,🙂 JUST SAY'IN .....
Johnny o'keefe
Dragon is an NZ band to take a wee bit of pressure off
ONJ was English not Australian
Some good songs, but a lot of boring stuff and missing some very famous groups. Not my cup of tea but how could you ignore the seekers, Olivia newton john, bee gees, Helen reddy, the saints, the go betweens (they even have a major bridge in Brisbane named after them!), Tim Minchin and the XL Capris !
1927 That's When I Think Of You; Mental As Anything Live It Up and Gotye is technically Belgian 😅

lol
It's perfectly clear what James Reyne is saying in Reckless. I'd easily replace long way to the top with thunderstruck- but nearer no.1.
I completely agreed with the list as presented. Until I read the comments and of course, the Seekers, Russell Morris, Billy Thorpe etc. but they are all brilliant pieces of music.
Did you really have to use the live version of every song?
Would have done it for copyright purposes - avoid having to get permissions

hello? heard of Mental as Anything?
yes, but no one of their songs belongs in the top 30
@@frankmadsen8989 LOL
Alot of good memories
Where is Angry Anderson and Suddenly?
Michael Hutchence - INXS ❤️🙏🏻
Not even an honourable mention for Olivia Newton John?
no, She was English not Australian.
Definately a gen X list 😊
Amazing, I'm Australian
Hello Michelle 👋 how are you doing
Actually, the most common description I have heard for Crowded House is "Australia-New Zealand band". Singer/songwriter/guitarist Neil Finn is from New Zealand, having come to fame playing for his brother Tim's band Split ENZ. However, after Split ENZ broke up, Neil went to Melbourne, where he formed Crowded House with Australians Paul Hester (RIP) and Nick Seymour.
I agree with a lot of these but I’m miffed there weren’t more women on the list! Not even one in the honorable mentions! ONJ, Tina Arena, Renee Geyer, Delta. Also where are the BeeGees, Seekers? Agree with other’s suggestions too!
Forgive me, but Tina Arena, Renee Geyer, Delta ... ? Seriously? Is just being female enough?
Helen Reddy I could support (greatest SONG, remember).
