Nick Cave and the bad seeds?
#10. Cheers
I wonder if One way mule and The Lever came from the deleted album? Talking about the whole Tall Poppy thing, we like to think it's an 'oz thing' but the same thing happened to Elvis. And Justin BIeber, and just about every child star you can name. I can't believe they weren't more sheltered from the storm, so to speak. To think they were the most famous musicians on the planet and lived in their mums and dads houses and had to go to public schools with all the bogans-fuck that, now thats 'oz' like "she'll be right mate" fuckin' hell.
Sounds like Hava Nagila! 👍
Triple J should try doing some tiktok trends or instagram reel trends but using traditional Triple J artists. I’m serious, it would be a great way for brand recognition
nice video!
No bee gees is diabolical
That’s hilarious you think that was AC/DC’s most famous song. I don’t even remember what you said but it wasn’t Highway to Hell or Back in Black so it’s objectively wrong lol
I HATE lists - you give no indication of your age your experience in music or anything else for that matter.! You're an (baby) amateur in every respect Friday @ 16 no Most People, not even any Bee Gees! I could go on.
A have a few favourite bands and Karnivool is one of my favourites, but 2nd biggest prog metal band in the world? Not really..
In the 90’s thee oranges whips ; Flanders; M16’s them bands ripped in 🎸full west Aussie pub bands 💪🏻
k san 20
This was rad man Cheers
DOWN UNDERRRRRRRRR 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The worĺd is full of lists these days it sucks
Down Under...Don't Dream It's Over....The Streets of Your Town: *Top Three* but not necessarily in that order.
And "The Little Rivera Band"?... Where?...
Did you really have to use the live version of every song?
Olivia NJ, Bee Gees, ?????
I like Heart's a Mess and The Only Way much more than Somebody I used to Know, and the Karnivool cover of The Only Way is way better than the original, Gotye himself aparently saying it was like he'd written the song for them.
Cog members moved on the Occupants. They have a very similar sound but are even less known and more underrated. Check out their song 'Hindsight', which is my favourite of all the Occupants and Cog songs. Karnivool and Voyager have been the bands I've always said were the most underated in Australia, despite both being highly acclaimed in their genres OS. Themata has gotta be one of the best prog rock songs of all time. Voyager is getting more attention recently after their Eurovision entries but prior to that no Australians I mentioned them to had heard of them.
Sleepy Jackson. ❤ San Cisco ? The best thing about them was Scarlets looks. The Panics best song was My Best Mistake, imo.
I remember being pleasantly surprised to hear Strangers by The Dirty Secrets in Gossip Girl S3 (2009).
1927 That's When I Think Of You; Mental As Anything Live It Up and Gotye is technically Belgian 😅
blue bay blues by richard clapton far better then any of this top 20 axcept for the saints
Thought it was only one song per band yet cold chisel had two. Liked cold chisels songs but not a huge fan of them after what they did at the Australian music awards on how they received their awards but basically put shit on the music industry
Great video man! 👏🤘
Two and a half women on the list if you count NZ girl Kimbra who you did not actually mention. I would not actually say this list is inaccurate, I'd say it's an accurate representation of the stock standard Aussie pub culture. All these songs can still be heard daily at pubs across the country, men with guitars being covered by other men with guitars; that is the dominant culture. But there are plenty of classic Aussie songs by women that you could have included, like Scar by Missy Higgins, Physical by Olivia Newton John, Chandelier by SIA, Born to try by Delta Goodrem, Caught in the Crowd by Kate Miller Heidke, Dance Monkey by Tones & I, Avant Gardner by Courtney Barnett, Big Jet Plane by Angus & Julia Stone, Jet Fuel Can't Melt Steel Beams by Camp Cope, Homecoming Queen by Thelma Plum, Rushing Back by Flume & Vera Blue, or literally anything by Montaigne, Stella Donnelly, G-Flip, Kasey Chambers, Meg Mac, Sampa the Great, Sarah Blasko, or Tkay Maidza. There is an abundance of female Australian musical talent and you don't give a damn because the culture at large doesn't either.
The most famous Australian songs in my country are: 15) Savage Garden TRULY MADLY DEEPLY; 14) Olivia Newton-John - PHYSICAL; 13) Samantha Sang and The Bee Gees - EMOTION; 12) Tina Arena - I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS (cover); 11) Kylie Minogue - GOT TO BE CERTAIN; 10) Jason Donovan - TOO MANY BROKEN HEARTS; 9) Russell Hitchcock (from his solo album, without Air Supply, in the 80s) - SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES IN YOU; 8) Crowded House - DON'T DREAM IT'S OVER (but I prefer BETTER BE HOME SOON); 7) Sia - UNSTOPPABLE; 6) INXS - NEVER TEAR US APART; 5) Icehouse - NO PROMISES; 4) Natalie Imbruglia - TORN; 3) John Farnham - YOU'RE THE VOICE; 2) Men At Work - DOWN UNDER; 1) Judith Durham (from The Seekers), Russell Hitchcock (from Air Supply), and Mandawuy Yunupingu - I AM AUSTRALIAN.
Hey Liam, this is a great rundown on our band. Really well put together and accurate. Thanks for taking the time to do it 🙏🏼😊
I am not an Australian but Olevia Newton John and the Bee Gees are like AC/DC the most well known Australian artists up here in Canada.
Wat about Sadie 😅
Your descriptions were spot on, I was able to name 40% of them by you description alone, and I'm 60+ We can all argue what the definition of "Top" is, but you did a great job
You’re The Voice should be number 1 no one has come close to the greatness of John Farnham.
No mention of the late great Billy Thorpe, nor Evie parts 1,2 and 3, one of the greatest rock anthems ever.
The Triffids should have been much bigger than they were. Great band.
I would have midnight oil higher! and the hoodoo gurus should be in there somewhere
Triffids had to be #1, great band, missing Psychedelic Porn Crumpets from this list though.
I’m English and can’t believe there is no mention of the Go-Betweens.
When I become PM and ABC (apart from Local Radio) gets flogged off, JJJ will be the first to go. This video shows finding a buyer won't be hard😆
What No Bee Gees? They were born on the Isle of Man but moved to australia where they started. The Tenants "You Shit Me to Tears". The Cockroaches "She's the One". C'mon on, no Wiggles even as an honourable mention? They are just as well known as ACDC.
Is there such a thing as a top Australian band ??? answers on the back of a postage stamp please.
Where is Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" and Savage Garden's "Truly Madly Deeply"?
Where is Angry Anderson and Suddenly?
❤

GOD - My Pal
I guess "The Saints" are "Stranded" off of this list
Nice to see Hilltop Hoods getting props. Still, could have done with some Sewer Slvt, The Avalanches Frontier Psychiatrist and Intellectual Killer by the mighty Nasenblauten. Would have been nice to see some SPK or Severed Heads too.
"friday on my mind" easybeats "hey little girl" icehouse "help is on its way" little river band "my only friend" sunnyboys "bittersweet" hoodoo gurus "street of your town" ou "people say" go-betweens "torn" Nathalie Imbruglia "stranded" the saints "anywhere out of the world" ou "cantara" ou "severange" dead can dance "message to my girl" split enz "this time" INXS "gumbarell highway" midnight oil "rock'n roll outlaw" rose tatoo Pour moi, ACDC, comme les BEE GEES, sont des anglais (écossais pour ACDC), qui ont déménagé en Australie.
Also, Olivia Newton john ?!
