The Meteoric Rise and Tragic Fall of SILVERCHAIR (An Australian Perspective)
Переглядів 9964 місяці тому
Silverchair were one of Australia's biggest bands of the 90's and 2000's. They reached incredible heights of success in the music industry when they started as teenagers and grew to be incredible artists. Despite this, they unfortunately fizzled out with an unceremonious break up. In this video take you through the history of the band and give you some of my thoughts and opinions of what happen...

Triple J has long been a great source of finding success for alternative musicians in Australia. Most popular underground artists can thank the station for a lot of their success in reaching wider audiences. Although, over the years there have been a few alternative Aussie artists that found different avenues to success, some of which became so big that Triple J could no longer ignore them. Oth...

How Perth Australia Became The Home of Psychedelic Rock
Like to d'load this list on Apple. Well done
Why not Voyager? Can’t believe you missed them on this list. 24 years a legendary progrock band and seriously big international following. Unbelievable. Understand why you missed Dave Warner due I guess u are young but why not the Farris Brothers, precursors to inxs? All up not a bad list.
Interesting list and a good starting point for the enviable discussion. Interesting to see all the live versions you used , I presume it was done because of rights issues ….
Funny how they don’t have any that gay ass English accent
not so fun fact: Into My Arms was written for Michael Hutchence, singer for INXS, who died a few years prior.
Lynda Nutter was such a rootrat. Her nickname was "Miss Reabold Hill"
Crowded House Is a New Zealand Band NOT Australian. Missing so many , waste of time watching
Seriously? You didn't include The Seekers? Top 5 at least... ua-cam.com/video/KrLTe1_9zso/v-deo.html
Alot of good memories
Sometimes I wonder whether Tripke J would play Midnight Oil if they wete a new band these days.?
Teally great video for young bands to watch. I would say SJ are Indie pop.
Noiseworks , The Screaming Jets , Boom Crash Opera ???
Dave Warner From the Suburbs. Suburban Boy, Convict Streak, Half Time at the Football, Australian Heat, Lonely Bar Room Crawler, Campus Days, Suburban Rock, Hot Crotch, African Summer, Phantom, Worst Day of My Life, Kangaroo Hop, Old Stock Road, and lots more.
some great tunes here - something to add to our dance playlists
Who remembers Jeff StJohn and Doug Parkinson? Only me it seems.
Face To Face, Doughboy Hollow, MEO245,Sunnyboys
I dont blame Daniel one bit for not releasing those songs- what's with Ben and Chris not sending him a copy of their book? They're talented musicians but they only made it big because of Daniel and they cant admit it themselves, but it's true. Tootles😊
So, Solitude, you think that this is a list (your list, notably) of the Top 30 Australian Songs of All time? Any list that includes a Cold Chisel song above Redgum's I Was Only 19 demonstrates a poor knowledge of music. Remember, 'Songs' is in the title therefore it can include rock songs (Friday on My Mind), Love Songs (Georgie Girl/The Carnival Is Over) and Country and Western Songs (Pub With No Beer) and also songs pre-2000. No doubt another 30 song list could be made up and be totally correct and absolutely no song (or very few songs) from this list would be included. Ho hum.
Super interesting. Thank you from France. The average level is really high and the Australian music scene incredibly dynamic. Didn't really know DZ Deathrays but as you say, there is something special in their sound.
Today I learnt that Air Supply were Aussies. You have Men At Work dangerously low. I don't think most of the Western world understands Australia beyond fighter combis. Whatever those are.
Wow, great songs and there are of course dozens more but a list is a list! I'd give a plug to Railroad Gin, Matter of Time
Big dope
Where's DCD?
Silver chair rocks!
Never tear us apart. Carn the Power!
Solid list. I think Died Pretty's Doughboy Hollow is the most underrated Aussie album of all time. Also a bit sad to not see Mr Floppy get a mention IYKYK
Great album!
Good list , however really disappointing with missing 3 of the most successful groups in Australian history. Little River Band Seekers Bee Gees ( Spic and Specs produced and released in Australia as their first single , before they moved to England to record their next hits) Add Guy Sebastian , who has recorded some great songs. Change the Title to " MY " , as this is not the TOP 30 Australian artists of all time.
Humble Armada need WAY more recognition, their music is incredible. Nice to see them get a shout-out 🙌
So these are your choices? Pretty spot on actually, I'm 70 years old and you impressed me, factual, no bullshit, well done mate, Mark, WA.
Thanks Thanks for this, I would never have guessed. As someone who grew up with 96FM but stopped listening when I moved to the Js in the late 90s, it is hard to imagine 96 being at all listenable.
It's funny you say this, I often think about how many good bands there are overseas that we simply don't get exposed to. I saw a English band called Declan Mackenna a week ago and they are for sure one of the best live bands I've seen. It call comes down to where you are from, we are very bias in that regard, I look at Australian music and think we have an incredible scene (which is partially true) but unless I actively checkout other bands from around the world, we are only scratching the surface.
In these comments: Boomers, boomers everywhere.
There’s a band in Perth called Paint who just put out their new EP called “Gift Shop”. Recommend giving that a whirl for sure
They are a great band for sure. "The streets don't lie" is the best songs AC/DC didn't write. I want to recommend 2 vinyl releases to you. Medieval Death LP and free DVD and the Mordicus “Rights ‘n Trials” LP. If you want to know more Google [Medieval Death LP and free DVD + Mordicus “Rights ‘n Trials” LP], then check audio, videos etc. If you are to bored to search and want the direct link, let me know \m/
The Panics at 16 is a travesty! They should have at least been in the top 10! And never failed to disappoint?!? What the hell? You meant 'never disappoint' right?
Where the hell were Birds Of Tokyo?
Mate you have done so well here, well done. Barely a critique but I think Go betweens should be half a dozen positions lower, and Tame Impala inbetween powder F and Silverchair. You have a great understanding Aus music very much. Spiderbait 31 King Gizard 32 33 v spy v spy. Oh noooooooooo you forgot Sherbert😆🤯🤦🏻
It's a travesty that The Saints aren't on the list with (I'm) Stranded. The pioneers of punk impacted a genre of music.
Silverchair far too low for me. Motor Ace one of the most underrated Australian bands of all time and would feature for me. Surprised Eskimo Joe weren't on here as well.
ACDC bloody sucks.
get onto some 'Hello Stranger', 'Little Guilt', 'Smol Fish'
Good job mate, but Little River Band should be higher. They had a song in 1978 called Reminiscing that went to no. 3 in States. That's a top achievement.
Nice work 🤘🔥
I still call Australia home always brings tears to my eyes.
Rolling blackouts coastal fever > ra ra viper

Aussies have 100% taken the crown of rock n roll away from the US and UK in the past decade
You think so? I think the UK indie scene is pretty hard to beat.
Dude, cool channel. Brother you need a mullet
