Mike Smith was the unsung hero of the dave Clark 5, they should have been called the mike Smith 5,very underated musician...rest in peace mike!
Coming up to 61 years since I first saw the DC5 onnThe Ed Sullivan Show! Yep that’s how old I am!
Love all the tunes! Thank you Ron Ryan for Because🥰
🤗💕
Great tribute to Mike Smith. The DC5 were my favourite group in the sixties and remain so to this day.
Thanks so much Alan 🥰 I appreciate you ❤
I was a DC5 fan not the Beatles, and also the rolling stones 😅
One of the best voices in rock history. RIP!
Loved him!
one of the greatest rock and rock and roll voices. loved this band.
The greatest voice of the British Invasion in my opinion. RIP 🙏🏾
When British Invasion hit the States i liked the Beatles but loved the DC5.
Their footstompin' reverb music was new and got one moving.
Loved all their songs.
Remember a Summer evening, being about 14 years old, going downstairs outside to front porch with my tape recorder and replaying singing along to Anyway You Want It.
Loved the reverb echo sound part... hey, hey, hey.🎉
🥰👍
He had a wonderful voice. Such a sad ending.
Dave Clark Five, one of my mom and dad’s favorite bands, Mike was very talented and a great musician. My favorite song was Bits and Pieces. As usual a thoughtful and respectful tribute and well researched! ❤😊
Oh how nice 🤗💞 I agree Bits and Pieces is a great song! Thank you as always Shilo 🥰
@@HarmonyHeartsLifestyle-ul5yv you’re always welcome my friend! Looking forward to the next!
My parents said the Dave Clark Five was their favorite as well.
Probably the first proper rock voice in the day, underrated vocalist.
So sad that he had that accident, but what courage. Much admired, l loved his voice. Thank you my friend for another awesome video🤗
Thank you for your ongoing support Deidre 🥰❤️💕
RI P Mike Smith will be remembered for ever❤️🙏
Thanks as always for this history of some of our best loved stars, what a tragic end this dear guy had and losing his son must have been a huge blow to Mike and his wife. Thankfully we have the music he and the guys made to still listen to and love. RIP Mike, left the stage but still in our minds.
Thanks Derek and yes it's so very sad to lose a child 💯💔 Appreciate you my friend 🥰👍
I knew at 11yrs old Mike Smith had it all. Talent, voice, presence and that smile I wish I could have had. Your on my long list of who l want to hug in heaven. 🥹🛐
With out Mike Smith there wouldn’t be DCF.❤️
This is a nice biography of Mike’s life.

He was one of a kind!
Thank you so much my friend 🥰
Dave Clark Five was my favorite band as a teenager.
I was a little kid when I got into the dc5.8 years old.
SAME HERE! 😢😮😢😮
What a voice that man had
When I was a teenager, I was able to attend two DC5 concerts. They all played their instruments live, and yes, Mike had an amazing voice.
I'm glad youtube recommeded this video.
Thank you so much! I'm more than happy you enjoyed it 🥰
I was glad all-over when you made this video RIP Mike Smith 🙏
Aww thank you so very much, you've made my day!
The DC5 was my favorite band in the 1960's. RIP Mike.
Catch Me If You Can is my favorite song by this group.
“Try too Hard “ is MY favorite from the DC5, and yet, it’s rarely played, mentioned and barely acknowledged.
🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
agreed - that is a fantastic song!
David Clark Five a favorite group with wonderful songs
Mike Smith # 1 🎹
Still love The Dave Clark Five in 2024
Because, is a beautiful song.
I was the ghost writer for The Dave Clark Five, I wrote Bits and pieces, Because, Anyway you want it, All of the time and a few other B sides and album tracks.
@@ronvonryanSure you did 🙄
Yeah, Ron did.
@@paulluna6379 Yes I did.
@@ronvonryan Yep, Ron is the real McCoy. Did you ever write your book Ron?
I still feel bad about what happened to Mike Smith, and how he had to spend his last years. But he was blessed with the love of a good woman to sustain him. Just as importantly, Mike had friends who went to bat for him. Peter Noone and Paul Shaffer put together a sold-out concert for him in New York City. (Wish I had been there!) In addition, Noone led the way in getting Mike the most up-to-date motorized wheelchair, and a van with a chair lift. Couldn’t expect more from friends!
He was GREAT
Thank you for that I remember them on the radio and my brother playing them on his record player😅 Thank you again for taking the time to do that
❤❤
So glad you enjoyed it Jayne, thank you for watching 🤗💞💝
A sad ending, but a terrific band.
Loved the DC5 a great band.
His ex wife Jill Smith is a very good friend of mine..she speaks highly of Mike..and yes Mike was a very talented musician and such a terrible accident..R.I.P
Oh how lovely! Yes he was well loved by so many 🥰 Thank you so much for sharing 🤗
Mike was the heart of the dc5 it should have been The Dave Clark 5 featuring Mike Smith..
In the mid 60’s ??????????
@stephenford5839 1964 Rivals of the Beatles & Stones
After the Beatles they were the best group in the 60s best songs.
NOPE! The Moody Blues were. The 1st Progressive Rock Band...
I loved the dave Clark five thank you mate another top video Shane in Sydney 🦘 🇦🇺
Thanks Shane 😊 Always awesome to see you my friend 🥰👍
Will always miss you, Mike. See you in Heaven.
Another great one ❤ I remember Kiss did a cover of Dave Clarke Five Anyway You Want It . I blasted that out a few times in my formative years . ❤

Mike Smith is just the Best God Bless Mike RIP love Nige xx
Mike "was" the Dave Clark Five...RIP sir
Mike Smith had one of best R N Roll voices. Inducted in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame by Tom Hanks.
I saw the Dave Clark Five, twice in 1964 at the Tottenham Royal Ballroom in Tottenham,London.I remember my Dad saying to me,"I see the organist Mike Smith is playing a Vox Continental organ.I'm sure when the Dave Clark Five becomes more successful,Mike will invest in a Hammond organ". I think he was right.I do believe that is what happened.
.........yes many happy nights spent dancing away at the Royal, Tottenham!💕💕😊😊😁😁
Hi Elizabeth. Also I don't know if you remember, walking towards the stage along the left hand side was a hot food counter selling Cornish Pasties.I smelt it as soon as I went in.🥟

I was fortunate enough to visit the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland with some family members.
Came across a medium bureau size wooden juke back dedicated fully to the DC5 songs.
I stayed there for quite a while just reminiscing, playing and quietly singing along to all their hit songs.
Had no idea where the family went😊❤
How lovely! 🥰👍
So his estate was worth £66,000, whereas Dave Clark went on to make millions through his underhanded treatment of the rest of the band, not honouring song writing royalties and only paying the band a wage, a nasty narcissist.
Well, he's got the dial he deserves now all right .... search on "Dave Clark" + "image".
Couldn't agree more. As far as the DC 5 were concerned, Dave Clark treated them all like cow's manure, and were all paid a salary, i.e. a pittance. He was and still is an absolute disgrace. He couldn't care less, and never did. If you ever see him driving up and down the road, in the Hampstead area, have some rotten tomatoes ready! He was always a 4th rate drummer at best.
Dave Clark has all those millions now but can’t take it with him when….how old is he now???
In addition to being a nasty person, Dave Clark looks horrendous! The cosmetic surgery has made him even more frightening than The Joker!
@@brownieccmus3 he is 85 now
R I P Mike old mate
Superieure First Class Band👍👍👍👍
my first single was Bits and Pieces before I knew singles existed
best rock voice ever wish I could have met him the drums on the records was the late Bobby Graham
Died aged 64 in Aylesbury and left an estate worth £66k - a pittance compared to what Dave Clark has got.
Probably most of his estate was spent for years of medical care.
😢 I never knew that it was so horrible. I liked this video and thanks again
Thank you so much, I appreciate you 🤗
Mike Smith 5
Bar the Beatles the Dave Clark 5 were the band of the 1960's and Mike was a key part of the Dave Clarke 5 - thanks for the memories Mike - for me you was the voice and energy of the Dave Clarke 5, thanks!
*****Top Group 👌👌
Very tragic 😢
He left about $200K? Boy old Dave Clark sure took him to the cleaners.
Mike Smith and Alan Clarke best frontmen of the sixties
Alan is terrific and so down to earth.
The 1st single of DC5 is whenever youre around
He could have sang and played keyboards as the 5th beatle
In the uk they had some big hits after 1966 ,
He was a talented singer and clearly mistreated. But I have yet to find a video or recording of a -live- performance. If you know of one, share it.
Dave Clark deserves immense credit for propelling his band to the forefront leadership of the British Invasion of America! The Dave Clark Five and The Beatles were the 2 giant bands the led the British Invasion. The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermit's, The Who, The Animals, Searchers, and so forth, all trailed the Beatles & The DC5. Also, there's a certain Mr Ryan who had legally relinquished his writing credits via a deal with Dave Clark. Ryan made the deal with Mr Clark. However it seems in the last few years that Ryan has endlessly complained, whined and cried to anyone and everyone that he is not credited with songs he purportedly wrote but are credited to Dave Clark. Mr Clark has the legal right to claim writing credits to the songs. Fans of the many Dave Clark Five fan groups throughout the internet are quite sick and tired of hearing Mr Ryan's constant whining, b*tching and crying over any deal he made with Mr Clark.
I agree Dave Clark was a very clever man when it came to the band that's for sure. Was surprised how much control he had with every aspect of it. Thank you for sharing and watching 🥰
Dave Clark deserves no credit at all he put his name to songs he never wrote, and got the Royalties for them, he never played drums in the studio on any record. It's a disgrace to this day that Clark claims he wrote the DC5 song, Robing the writers of a lot of money. The hit in the USA "Because" was written by Ron Ryan a love song for his wife yet Clark has his name on as writer.
Absolutely/ they were overated
@@rellrellandleemansell2312Hell you say!
I didn't know that but nothing really surprises me about the so-called Swinging Sixties.People were fond of trashing The Monkees but most of those sixties records were played by session musicians like The Wrecking Crew or its British equivalent.
How many members were in the dave clark five?
There were 5 members 😁👍
I have one COMPACT DISK
The DC5 were Mike Smith plus the stooges. Managed by DC himself. Their sound was derivative and exploitative of R&B. We survived them.
RIP Mike. But WTF has his star sign got to do with anything? It begins with an F and ends with All.
It was requested by a couple of people to add the zodiac signs. I guess if you follow astrology you can understand the personality traits of the artist a little better etc ☺️
Wow ... I really loved the DC5 and Mike especially, but he really seemed to be accident prone. Pity.
Sounds like Mike was more than a little accident-prone throughout his life.
Dave Clark knew he was dying and did NOT come to his bedside
I never liked Dave Clarke 5 because of Dave Clarks drumming you could tell he was mimeing he never plyed on any of the recordings
It was 18 times on Ed Sullivan.
Dave clark was a cold hearted business man with money in mind and damn the injured parties! A narrsacist inseed!
I always thought he looked like Paul McCartney
He does a bit ☺️
He looks like an attractive Paul McCartney.
Only one in DC5 with any talent.
No music at all ?
They were shite ; we had the Beatles; who and Stones, and others who were a lot better overated
Rip Michael Smith our preys go out to your family
A truly great singer of his time such a strong voice
Bits and pieces 1963? Lovely
Mike was a co-writer on most DC5 songs...HOW could his estate only be valued,at the time of his death, at 66,000 pounds? I'm Sure his Care was Costly, but still,...Wasn't Dave Clark Also one of the co-writers of their material? I know that Peter No-one and other Contemporaries of Mike played BENEFITS to raise money for special equipment, including a van with a wheelchair lift. I believe that he found love and was at Peace at the end of his journey. He was such a powerful vocalist and great musician. He will not be Forgotten. Rest In Peace,Michael🙏❤🙏
Excuse the Spell-Check from HELL...Peter NOONE...
Peter NOONE...
Dave clark came from the same stable as Klien and Folley
