@silverstem2964......'Mack the Knife' is an excellent and highly renowned 'standard' - but by far Bobby Darin's best ever song is the smoothly elegant, 'Beyond the Sea' [La Mer].
@@MichaelLuke-w6p I forgot about Beyond The Sea. I was probably a toddler although I do have a razor sharp memory of that time. They all agreed they wanted a sister. They didn’t even mind that I was a bald headed baby sister. They all took care of me and sort of spoiled me. Especially after four yrs. Later when my baby sis was born & the older three felt like i wasn’t being done right. Mama was all about the baby. I guess she knew that was her last but she made a pretty big & obvious difference. I was The DADDYS Girl. And my brothers. They had me singing & dancing & telling jokes. They said I was walking & holding conversations at ten months and I never shut up. Lol. True dat!!! My oldest brother bought a hay truck and they hauled hay. They’d take me & put that old truck in granny gear & id drive. Sometimes one of them would jump in and get it all straight so I could guide a straight line so they could Buck the bales of hay. I did. Good. They might give me a dime but that was a pop & candy bar at the train depot. I thought I was rich!!! The three oldest are gone now, right in a row & I miss them so bad!!! I was much safer in this world when they were young and running around. No body messed with the baby sister. I did. Thank them when we got older. The middle one took me anywhere he went if I wanted to. Of course I ALWAYS wanted to go. So dang it now I remember Beyond The Sea. It’s a Great Memory. I always had my favorite songs & singers. I rode beside my Dad & brothers standing up in the seat with my arm around their necks until I was so big I was crooking my neck over & had to give it up. Wow!!! Thanks for the memories!!! That was some good safe days. I didn’t know nothing about war til my middle bro got drafted to Nam. Our Country was Tore to pieces. Dang protesters literally at the air ports calling them baby murderers & just horrible times. The civil rights movement. I remember seeing them ole means cops & clansmen spraying people trying to just eat where they were with fire hoses all kinds of junk that will never leave my mind!!! Then it was very scary times!!!
Wow. my father was his dentist. It was so hard on him when Darin dead, he not only thought he was going to lose his license he thought the Mob was going to knock him off. He talked about it till the day he died.
Until I saw this, I hadn’t even considered how it would affect the dentist. I can empathize with how that would stick with you for the rest of your life. May he rest in peace now! Thank you for sharing that!
He had rheumatic fever as a child and it weakened his heart. He was only expected to live a few more years. His death is tragic and he didn’t cause his own death. He lived well beyond the prognosis.
Good friend of the family suffered same with associated heart damage. She was able to have heart valve replacement in the 70's. Prolonged her life probably 40 years.
Smoking and drinking didn't help his heart either, he was gone before I was born, but I still love his music. It's too bad he didn't live longer. Add to the smoking 🚬 and drinking 🍸 and you have anxiety/stress which is also bad for your heart among other things.
I have a dental appointment coming up and had decided yesterday that I was not going to take antibiotics since my knee replacement was 8 years ago. Woke up to this video on my UA-cam feed. Scared me enough to call the doctor for a prescription this morning.
I'm so glad you saw this video, so that everyone knows to take your antibiotics to protect their heart after, and even before dental surgery, and especially after after any surgery to prevent infection and protect hearts. ❤🙏🕆
This whole story is BS -- he'd had experimental heart surgery! -- an artificial valve implant which just gave out. It had NOTHING to do with not taking an antibiotic! (which kills all the good bacteria in your gut) And this was after a year of taking pharma drugs with "dire side effects"! Typical medical spin to avoid a lawsuit, blaming the victim.
Hope things go well with you, though I'm confused as you didn't make clear whether it was a similar pre-existing condition that required preemptive use of antibiotics? Did the knee replacement cause some long lasting issues? As someone who may be facing a hip rep in a few years, I'd love to know 😱
This has more detail than anything I have read about him. And watching this, the man could MOVE with his music. How did he do so well with a bad heart?! Bobby Darin fans, you want to see this!
I think his heart was weakened greatly toward the end because of all the traumas in his life and his surgeries. And rheumatic fever was so dangerous. It was a combination of many factors. And in those days, men didn't talk about their health much and how it bothered them so he probably didn't say much and kept performing. So sad...
@@garymorris1856 My own brother also had rheumatic fever, and nearly died from it. I remember watching Darin singing and dancing, and his dancing always had a rhythm to it of little slow bits, where he'd swing his head down for just a couple beats, and I thought, he's trying to get his blood pressure back up so he doesn't pass out, because my brother did the same. Like, he pushed it that hard, singing and dancing, that he could have collapsed any minute. Really amazing. You know he wrote in all genres of music? He wrote country music, because he thought it was interesting.
I couldn't get through his performance in "Pressure Point" because he gave such a realistic portrayal of a psychopath. I loved him too much. I simply couldn't bear to see him that way. That's how amazing he was as an actor. He should have won the Oscar that he was nominated for for that performance.

“Thank You Factinate” for this story of Bobby Darin. Most appreciated and I look forward to future postings of other artists. Your lovely accent adds great warmth & your knowledge keeps me attentive. I’m certain you’ll tell us many more personal stories on UA-cam. I don’t watch television as I don’t enjoy the garbage on most channels. I, like many, prefer social media to television. Thank you again! Cheers & wishing you excellent health & much happiness. 🥰🇨🇦
I’m sixteen and I just got into his music, so I started researching him. As much as I would have loved to live back then, I don’t think I could’ve handled his death 😢
The original Mac The Knife. I loved him doing the shark bite. I was a Little Girl & my MoMA & Brothers Said when That Song was Out & i guess whatever talk show or venue he played of course he did Ole Mac The Knife. I would literally laugh til I cried. Bobby was just Too Cool. God Bless Him!!! He was the epitome of Cool. I always smile when I think of him being that crazy shark & his pearly whites.
@@thunderchief7Vous ignorez que Sandra Dee avait elle aussi de graves problèmes? C’est même Sandra qui l’avait mentionné elle-même quelques années avant son décès. Viviane (19-09-2024)
Great singer and a very handsome man. My Mom met him a few times in Vegas. Said he was a very nice person. I always loved hearing her stories of him. It was so sad when he died. I cried my eyes out. He was a great performer.
I’ve read quite a few articles over the years about Bobby and Sandra Dee. The theory is that they both were emotional adolescents when it came to their relationship and dealt with adult conflict in a very immature way, so the two of them together was a disaster waiting to happen. Triggered each other off the scale. Sad.
I'm a BD fan & appreciates his music. I'll never understand why fans say they cried their eyes out over their death yet never knew them personally? Makes no sense to me. I value the music they gave me in my life time.
He is far from forgotten. And if he had leaned into rock a little more than jazz he would have been even bigger. I like his determination, the fact that he faced a short life and wanted to make the most of his time. Respect.
My friend ,with all due respect, Bobby Darin was not a Jazz singer. Because you sing swing standards does not make you a jazz singer. Was Frank Sinatra,Tony Bennet, and Joe Williams jazz singers? They ALL were great singers, but not jazz vocalist. Bobby Darin was an extremely versatile singer, just not Jazz. I have some knowledge of this subject, as I am a professional guitarist/ vocalist with over 50 years of experience. I had the pleasure of working with many talented singers/entertainers throughout my life. Thankyou.
Seems like at least 50% of all entertainers are so afflicted. Johnny Carson, the man who had everything in life a guy could possibly want, died alone, supposedly miserable and friendless.
Bobby Darin was one of the greatest singers/entertainers that ever came down the pike. He also had talent as an actor as well. He was an extremely versatile vocalist. He sang Pop/Rock'nRoll ( Of the Day), Swing Standards as good as the greats like Frank Sinatra, TonyBennet, etc. He played some guitar, piano, and drums as well. It was a great loss when he passed on. He had a troubled life, and sadly a bad Heart. His music and Fantastic Talent still lives with us today. May we never forget a true Giant of a Talent. Thankfully you can still hear, and see some of his performances today. Hope we never forget all the wonderful music that he left with us. Thankyou Bobby!!
A friend of mine ended up with an infection in his gums. His upper gums receded an enormous amount and he had to be admitted to the hospital to receive antibiotics through an IV. This guys teeth are like a work of art. They look perfect. He does the regular dentist visits. Turns out the infection came from some fish thing he ate on vacation in the Philippines ( we live in Montana). The meal was ok, but some small piece became lodged in his gums around one of his molars. He never noticed it and about three weeks later he was at the ER. Doctors said the infection could have easily went to his brain. That’s crazy. On another note, dude is a very good car salesman. He’s the most honest one I’ve ever met. I’ve watched him talk his way out of many sales rather than lie or take advantage of customers. Our dealership received great reviews from customers that didn’t even buy from him. Two of our mangers hate him but the gm loves him (they started in the business at the same time).
So many Highs and lows and too many secrets and secrets revealed..We were lucky to have had him. Thank you for another interesting walk thru the past. ✌️🌹
I once owned the Kevin Spacey tribute to Bobby Darin, "Beyond the Sea," in which Spacey played the entertainer. I know it was, "Hollywood," but I felt it was a courageous effort by Spacey to give us a look at a man he admired. Even I thought Spacey was too old to portray Darin - yet I lost myself in the storytelling and felt I got my best glimpse of Bobby Darin up to that point. So, I thank you for this profile. Several times you mentioned that Darin was arrogant and drove many friends away. I guess it was portrayed in the movie by Spacey, but since it was from Darin's point of view, it wasn't highlighted as much. I guess he was a fragile, supremely gifted individual who wanted to be admired. His was a tragic story - yet he left so much for us to celebrate in his having lived. Thank you!
Yes, Kevin wanted to play that part at least a decade or more earlier and by the time he had enough clout, to get the go ahead from the movie studio, they were worried he looked too old for the part. But he sure did look like him older or not. That was a good movie.
I loved that movie with Kevin Spacey! I learned a lot from it. I was never one to dig into any celebrities’ backgrounds so this was an eye-opener for me. I can’t believe I didn’t even know he was married to Sandra Dee!! But, in my defense, I was young and had my life to live. It didn’t take me too long to get lost in the movie and forget it wasn’t actually Bobby Darin but Kevin Spacey! That’s a real testament.
My favorite Aunt my Dad’s sister passed away in her 50s from heart damage due to Rhuematic Fever. My Dad was the oldest of 14 kids than my Aunt was the second oldest they were very close… After Dad passed Aunt Lorna’s house was always unlocked sometimes as she had several kids too but as we all got older I kinda feel like she left the door unlocked for us 4 kids to watch over all of us for her brother my Dad♥️♥️🙏🏼She was the best. Love you Aunt Lorna very much ♥️
My favorite song by Bobby was Dream Lover. He was truly a gifted and talented performer. His music lives on in the hearts and memories of all of the fans who loved him. Although he was gone too soon, he went on to a more peaceful place somewhere beyond the sea.
I saw Bobby on April 8th 1960 at the Odeon Cinema in Manchester, England. Also appearing were Clyde McPhatter, Emile Ford and the Checkmates and the artist I really went to see and that was Duane Eddy. Can't believe that was 62 years ago.
Yes , he did have dental work without taking an antibiotic. At the end, only a heart transplant would save him. He knew it and was aware that he was dying. He was so gracious to all of us who worked for his cardiologist. He died the day before my son was born.
When I was a boy, my cousin Ronnie was the head of a Bobby Darrin fan club. Needless to say, she was devastated by his death. But she kept up the fan club for many years.
Rhuematic fever patients used to have penicllin injections monthly as i did for all my youth i too had R.F. as my mother and my sister had R.F. & an uncle who died of R.F. at 14 yrs.old. And it is true, dental work had to be treated prophylacticly with Penicillin before dental work. Any infection especially Strep infection, many times were fatal. Bobby having to have oxygen after/ during performances is an indication that his cardiac valves & heart muscle were damaged. Tx of R.F. has improved greatly since 50's & 60,s when Bobby and myself were children. His Dentist and his G.P. should have made sure he took antibiotics before dental work. He wouldn't have been a suitable candidate for his second cardiac surg.with any infection. This was not an uncommon outcome in the 60's & 70"s. I remember all his songs, i loved Connies songs, and had a big crush on Sandra Dee. My 2 faves of Bobby's were Mack & Beyond the sea.
I had it at the age of 9 and took penicillin shots monthly for about 5 years afterwards. It left me with a slight heart murmur that can barely be heard with a stethoscope. Nowadays they would never treat it that way, they are so afraid to prescribe antibiotics for anything. RIP Bobby, you left us much too soon😢
My son was diagnosed with rheumatic fever at age 11 , and it done heart damage and he couldn’t have dental work without taking penicillin for three days before and three days after dental work , also he almost died in hospital before they found out what was wrong with him, he never had good health the rest of his life , he died two years ago last November,
I was a young teen girl at the time of his meteoric rise. I was a fan and loved singing along to his huge hit, ’Mac the Knife’. I actually could sing when I was a kid. I sang in my 8th grade choir in church. So sad he died so young.😢
Simply loved Bobby Darin, and swooned over him many times! A great talent, I have several record albums and a video of one of his performances that I had sent for. He left this life too soon, as did many other talents, just think of the many! May he rest in peace from his troubled life.
I got an illness called endocarditis, this was due to a virus getting into my system through a hole in my tooth, Was it the same with Bobby Darin, I have since had four heart ops , but also have two mechanical valves, and all still leaking I have to say I'm a fighter
The supposed cause of death is total BS, just typical medical spin to avoid a lawsuit, blaming the victim. He'd had experimental heart surgery! -- an artificial valve implant which just gave out. It had NOTHING to do with not taking antibiotics! (which kill all the good bacteria in your gut) And this was after a year of taking pharma drugs with "dire side effects"!
I don't like the idea of blaming Bobby Darin for why he died so young. He had RF as a child which was NOT his fault. As for the antibiotic, yes he didn't take it before his routine dental work. But having RF is what really killed him.
I agree! His existing rheumatic heart valve disease is what killed him after complications from heart surgery. I hate videos that lie about those who have passed away. 😡
Yes, it seemed an unnecessary way to keep the viewer engaged. I get the whole click bait, and random phrases to get people to comment, but these guys should stop at insulting the dead. Also, everyone involved with Bobby Darin's life said he was never selfish. He bought stupid amounts of cars, because he never could as a kid, but he was a generous soul with everybody.
Thank you, Sir Factinate, for this review of Bobby Darin's adult life and career. I was 14 when "Splish Splash" came out, and I remember when "If I Were A Carpenter" made the charts. What a turbulent life the guy had, such talent, so many obstacles, the rough life of ambition. I didn't see Kevin Spacey's biopic of him, so there's a lot about him I don't know. A couple of Darin's favorite recordings in my collection: "Artificial Flowers" and "Goodbye, Charlie." It's such a shame a strong song stylist like him has become all but forgotten.
My late husband loved Bobby Darin’s hit song Mack the Knife & I used to play the song for him. We both liked it & would sit in the lounge on a Saturday night &play all the songs that we loved & would even have a dance. Miss those days so much.
I really enjoy the Spacey film and thought it was a real tribute to Bobby. After watching it I managed to seek out and buy o lot of Bobbys records and T V. shows and have become a true fan of Bobby Darin
Really surprised you never mentioned his hit single, Mack the Knife. It was Darin's first number 1 hit and won a grammy for Best Record of the Year in 1959. To be fair to Bobby, he probably didn't understand the danger of not taking antibiotics. Still, his doctor and/or dentist prescribed them, so he should have listened.
In NZ that tune ,"Mack the Knife" was all we got for many years. Because our Victorian attitude. The words were banned!!! This was in the 60's,70's. Thankfully we have grown up.
This video gives the most coherent and understandable version of Bobby Darin's life and Sandra Dee's role in it. The tragedy continued in Sandra's life. But that is the inspiration for a different video. I would love to know more about their only child.
He was considered the next Sinatra when I was in high school. It’s true that we used to harmonize on the Philadelphia street corners back in the 50s and 60s, and I always did Darin's version of “Clementine.” Hand gestures and all. We knew about his arrogance and self-absorbent demeanor at the time, but we just enjoyed his music. I was 29 when I heard the news of his passing, and genuinely felt true sadness.
My uncle did from 1-2 packs a day for years. Imagine how much more life he could have had, dieing at the tender age of 89-90ish(?). Been 40 years at least, I forget. He rode Harley's till he was late '70's, but his knees went south because of a work accident years before.
@@dianealbrecht496But before a dental procedure, you have to take antibiotics 1 hr prior to the visit or your fake joints/parts may become infected! In this case his heart.
@@dianealbrecht496 14:04 He did not take the antibiotics required after his dental procedure. So he got sepsis. That blood infection is nasty. Even today its still a killer. If you're lucky it won't kill right away, BUT it damage almost every vital organ. Your lifestyle will be changed and life shortened. You'll be at risk for more infections. I've known more than a couple people effected. Most people don't know your dental health is so important. An infection in a tooth or tooth socket can destroy bone in your jaw and travel around the body wrecking organs.
Darin was just like us, with trials and tribulation that just about every human goes thru in life..The only difference is that he just happen to be in show business...RIP Darin, you were one of the best crooner!!
I agree! I tell people about it all the time. I don’t know of another song with such a happy, upbeat melody with an unbelievably sad story! “Little Annie” froze to death in a tenement house. Who would write a song like that?
He had a voice, his style, & a stage presence. If he lasted, he would've beat Sinatra hands down. If only he sang more modern classics we'd have a treasure trove. His rendering of Mack the Knife made it his song. He owns it for keeps! He radiated through his performances as a warm person. Rest in eternal peace!
Bobby Darin had damaged heart valves due to having Strep throat when he was a child, in the early 1930s. By the time Penicillin was discovered and available, the damage to his heart was done. Open heart surgery was a brand new development in the late 60s and early 70s. His heart must have been in pretty bad shape to require 2 surgeries in less than 4 years. It's very risky. It is unfortunate the author of this biopic chose to tell the story of Bobby Darin's illness and death as "his fault". When the heart valves are not closing properly due to damage, moving oxygen-rich blood to the brain is affected. Low oxygen saturation in the blood can result in fatigue, dizzyness,b in confusion, and impaired comprehension. It's no surprise that he frequently needed supplemental oxygen. Bobby left behind a son who probably missed his father terribly. I'm grateful we have recordings of his performances. "One of God's Originals." ❤️
Open heart surgery emerged in the 1950s with bypass procedures; heart valve replacement remained tricky well into the 70s and 80s. By the early 1970s they were even doing open heart surgery on babies. I was one of those babies. All my life I have been told to take antibiotics before going to the dentist. Bobby Darin had to have been told this also. He failed to do so and got an infection. Ergo, it is something he could have prevented, arguably his own fault.
@@CornbreadOracle , Please remember that it is unusual for anybody to make decisions or omissions that result in their death. I will remind you Mr Darin was born well before you were - before heart surgery was "routine." Presumption of negligence and blame demonstrates a quite remarkable lack of compassion. I don't know the particulars, however I choose to think most people do the best they can no matter the circumstances. I'm a retired OR RN and practiced for decades, including Cardiac surgery. In the 70s we were still sharpening and reusing suture needles and mixing intravenous medications - the era when NICUs were just beginning in 1975. How fortunate you were to be born at a time when infant lives were being saved due to advancements in heart surgery. Mr Darin had so much to live for; a child, and a huge talent to share. He left behind wonderful recordings that the world can enjoy decades after his passing. I say let him Rest In Peace without uncharitable assignments of blame. Like all humans, he was a "work in progress" - capable of great accomplishments and human frailty.
@@OceanSwimmer your first sentence belies itself. People do stupid stuff that results in their own death all the time. Poor diets, bad decisions, bad habits….the list goes on. Whole industries, legal and illegal, exist to support those poor choices. Sometimes it’s less dramatic, such as in this case. A lot of people don’t seem to understand that gum infections can and do go the heart. That’s the reason for the antibiotic. Maybe Bobby Darin didn’t realize that. Maybe he simply felt invincible. Maybe he just forgot. Who knows? All we know is that he didn’t take his antibiotic and it ended up being a fatal decision.
@@AnthonyWilliams-ew3wp It does; and the particular circumstances surrounding that omission are, at best, hearsay. Bobby Darin's health was precarious for a large portion of his life. Today, the timing of antibiotic administration in surgery is very specific. It took years of study to determine when, how much, and how often (if a repeat dose should or should not be given) is best for patients.
I remember that very day, driving around and hearing on the truck radio that he had died. How unbelievable since he was so young. I didn't know at the time that he never expected to make it to 40 due to his heart defect. He was still working and appearing on TV in that final year, 1973.
I always thought that Bobby Darin had a lot of talent. He toed the line between the Sinatra Type music and early rock and roll. I was impressed with his version of If I Were a Carpenter written by Tim Hardin.
Just glad Bobby fought through is highly dysfunctional upbringing. A gift for music along with focused. hard work & not allowing the poor me attitude rewarded him with great success. A highly gifted musical mind.
“New York on Sunday,” is favorite BD song. No one i know ever heard it, so i’d sing every word, bringing back memories of many Sundays in the early 60’s when my city of 8-million would still be sleeping, and a curious kid could explore Manhattan like he was kjng of the world.
My mother was a Bobby Darrin fan. I remember when we got a hi-fi record player, lying on the floor right next to it and playing his record over and over. All us kids knew every word of all his songs because she played his music incessantly. Even the babies were singing Mack The Knife. Ahh, memories...❤️
I recently watch the movie "captain newman, md and was taken to tears by the moving and every so awesome acting of Bobby Darin as Cpl. That fire at Universal (2008) destroyed over 500,000 master recordings. The entire MCA, Decca, A&M, Coral, Geffen, Mercury and subsidiaries libraries were wiped out in one shot. Probably the biggest archive disaster since the fire at the library at Alexandria 2000 years ago.
It has been 36 years since my Open Heart Surgery to repair a valve (a result of having rheumatic fever at age 4), I still take antibiotics for all dental procedures. Wouldn't miss it for anything.
Bobby had it going on. One story has Frank Sinatra watching Bobby's Vegas show from the back of the theater. I picture Bobby singing "The Lonesome Road", and Frank taking notes.
Bobby Darin had heart problems all of his life. That wasn't his fault. Even while still in his 20s as a mystery guest on What's My Line' he donated all his winnings to the heart fund.
Thank you for this! The movie, 'Come September', starred Rock Hudson and Gina Lolobrigida, both Bobby and Sandra had secondary roles - wonderfully entertaining movie! 😉
In 1932 my father had rheumatic fever when he was seven and was told he probably wouldn't make it to forty. Dad became a fitness buff jogging almost daily even long before it became popular. After turning 60 Dad had heart surgery to replace a valve with one from a pig. Dad lived for 20 more years until the valve was replaced and he contracted sepsis. Bobby could have lived far longer if he had followed his doctor's advice and taken the antibiotics before visiting the dentist.
perhaps it wasn't arrogance at all...maybe, just maybe it was over compensation or perhaps the drive to succeed when he knew he didn't have much time in this world. darin was an excellent actor as well. check out darin's performance in the 1973 ron howard film run stranger run aka happy mother's day love, george directed by darren McGavin. his performance is so GREAT he makes you forget you are looking at bobby darin. the entire film is here on youtube under the title run stranger run. it is the complete film for free. the cast also includes cloris leachman, patricia neal, neal's daughter by a very famous author, Joseph Mascolo from days of our lives, simon oakland (who appeared in the tv series kolchack the night stalker with darren McGavin), Kathie Browne (who was married to McGavin in real life), Thayer David from dark shadows, royce applegate from twin peaks, singer-actress Gale Garnett + many more familiar faces/names. even with a cast like that, bobby darin is a stand out! the film is like twin peaks 20 years before twin peaks.

The middle one took me anywhere he went if I wanted to. Of course I ALWAYS wanted to go. So dang it now I remember Beyond The Sea. It’s a Great Memory. I always had my favorite songs & singers. I remember seeing them ole means cops & clansmen spraying people trying to just eat where they were with fire hoses all kinds of junk that will never leave my mind!!! Then it was very scary times!!!

Cool story, sorry he had to deal with that!
Haha, not true ;)
He needed to take an antibiotic prior to every dental appointment.

Hope things go well with you, though I'm confused as you didn't make clear whether it was a similar pre-existing condition that required preemptive use of antibiotics? Did the knee replacement cause some long lasting issues? As someone who may be facing a hip rep in a few years, I'd love to know 😱

Booby was an amazing talent, sing dance, comedy, acting. I remember his TV show, he was a great entertainer.
I think his heart was weakened greatly toward the end because of all the traumas in his life and his surgeries. And rheumatic fever was so dangerous. It was a combination of many factors. And in those days, men didn't talk about their health much and how it bothered them so he probably didn't say much and kept performing. So sad...

I ADORED Bobby Darin as a ittle girl. Loved his show on NBC. I had just turned 13 when he died and I remember crying my eyes out.😢

Well said, thanks for sharing this story!
Thankyou.
For all the success he had in the music industry it appears a happy life is something he never really had. RIP Bobby.
Seems like at least 50% of all entertainers are so afflicted. Johnny Carson, the man who had everything in life a guy could possibly want, died alone, supposedly miserable and friendless.
Darin died in December 1973 at age 37 from complications following heart surgery. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
His failure to take antibiotics hastened his end.

Darin took a career pause helped Bobby Kennedy 1968 presidential campaign lived on a boat for two years after RFK assassination by the CIA
Kevin Spacey used his own voice in that movie. Pretty impressive performance I think. 💯🇺🇸
I saw that film at the cinema, I thought Spacey got it spot on.

He insisted he did take all the antibiotics prescribed.

"Artificial Flowers" is such a weird song but Bobby Darin made it a big hit. He was an outstanding singer.
I think the fault comment derives from him not taking his antibiotics.
@@CornbreadOracle ,
Please remember that it is unusual for anybody to make decisions or omissions that result in their death.
I will remind you Mr Darin was born well before you were - before heart surgery was "routine."
Presumption of negligence and blame demonstrates a quite remarkable lack of compassion.
@@AnthonyWilliams-ew3wp
It does; and the particular circumstances surrounding that omission are, at best, hearsay.
Bobby Darin's health was precarious for a large portion of his life.
Today, the timing of antibiotic administration in surgery is very specific.
It took years of study to determine when, how much, and how often (if a repeat dose should or should not be given) is best for patients.

I love his voice & style
I recently watch the movie "captain newman, md and was taken to tears by the moving and every so awesome acting of Bobby Darin as Cpl. Jim Tompkins, USAAF He played a very damaged young soldier who watched his fellow crew die horribly and Bobby's rendition was so emotionally charged it made me cry which is saying something because I'm very critical of actors.
Only Bobby can sing Mac the knife properly, the rest just sing it, Bobby lives it
Thanks for reminding me of his rendition of Mac the Knife. Just thinking about it gives me chills.
Bobby won a Grammy for this sensational vocal 🎤
My goodness, fancy failing out with the iconic Sammy Davis Jnr.
Very informative piece.Very sad. His talent would have got him to the top of his profession. I wonder what my Idol, Mr Sinatra would have thought.
Thank you for posting this.
Love "Beyond the Sea". Have it on my Mp3 player.
Back when the singers could actually SING!
This video certainly was an eye opener. I loved him with Sandra Dee and his music 🎶. So much I didn't know. Thank you!
My son had a heart murmur as a child, he takes antibiotics when getting dental work.
A troubled life, but oh how we still love his music, Beyond the Sea, always fills the floor at my CEROC club.
I remember him and his wife WOW those were the best days.❤I grew up on them.
It has been 36 years since my Open Heart Surgery to repair a valve (a result of having rheumatic fever at age 4), I still take antibiotics for all dental procedures. Wouldn't miss it for anything.
Well done documentary. Darin's music survives.
Bobby had it going on. One story has Frank Sinatra watching Bobby's Vegas show from the back of the theater. I picture Bobby singing "The Lonesome Road", and Frank taking notes.
He was a great actor too. He was my favorite in "Hell is for Heroes" and he was fantastic in "Captain Newman, M.D."
Bobby Darin had heart problems all of his life. That wasn't his fault. Even while still in his 20s as a mystery guest on What's My Line' he donated all his winnings to the heart fund.
A big supporter of Bobby Kennedy. I believe he accompanied the train from NYC to Arlington Cemetery and stayed the night at Bobby's burial site.
He had such a well-modulated voice, and "Mack" was his best.
Bobby was a One Class Act! ....RIP
Superb video Bobby is one of my all time favorites
Thank you for this! The movie, 'Come September', starred Rock Hudson and Gina Lolobrigida, both Bobby and Sandra had secondary roles - wonderfully entertaining movie! 😉
fun movie
Thanks you for telling the story. You are always the best. 🏆
Darin died in December 1973 at age 37 from complications following heart surgery. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. "from complications following heart surgery". I doubt that had anything to do with his teeth!! It is sad that he died so young. 🙁
