April 1975 I was a tiny 17 year old girl who with the aid of her platform shoes, managed to get on stage at Leeds Town Hall. Steve put his arm round me and sang “oh dear, look what they’ve done to the blues .. blue … blues” and kissed me on the cheek before the bouncers dragged me off. Memories don’t come much better than this ❤️ ❤️❤️

The way that song "make me smile" suddenly stops then flows onto a different pitch so effectively made it so special..simple but brilliant composition from an.understated music icon..but that's what he would have wanted, just an ordinary guy who wrote a great song

It was an honour to have seen Harley over 400 times. The gigs were amazing, the stories were captivating. I finally met the great man in November 2022 at Lytham. I was the proudest man in the world meeting the person who had been in my life for nearly 50 yrs. Every album was a gem in its own way. Last Sunday, I was heartbroken as I heard on the radio Steve had passed away. I’m still devastated to think I’ll never see him again. As well as appreciating his songwriting, I appreciated Steve’s integrity. Unlike other stars who appeared on the BBCs Top of the Pops, he refused to toe the line re Jimmy Savile. He made his feelings very clear about Britain’s worst serial paedophile; refused to speak to Savile when they were in the TV studio together; and, threatened repeatedly to expose Savile (which caused a lot of consternation among BBC management).

*Rest In Peace, Steve.* Thank you.
Perhaps we may meet one of these auld afternoons, along with your bass player (Paul Avron Jeffreys) who died on Pan Am Flight 103, circa 19:02, Wednesday 21 December 1988 et al. Hopefully see you both upon a better, more loving, Astral Plane.
    Whatever ... Stay free, S and P. Rab 🕊
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Paul Avron Jeffreys (13 February 1952 -21 December 1988) was an English rock musician. He played bass guitar in Cockney Rebel between 1972 and 1974, working on the group's first two albums, and later worked with a number of British bands, including Be-Bop Deluxe (1974), Warm Jets (1977-1980) and Electric Eels (1980-1981). [Credit: Wikipedia]
    *Death*
Paul died, along with his wife Rachel Jeffreys (née Jones), at the age of 36. The couple were on Pan Am Flight 103 on the way to their honeymoon when the aircraft exploded, the remains falling over the town of Lockerbie in Scotland. 💓💓

Human Managerie is one of my all time favourite albums, every track is fabulous & had a more sophisticated Bowie vibe. Harley missed a trick by not rereleasing Sebastian during the series & film of Brideshead Revisited which it was based on, it would have been a big hit. Harley was well read & admitted to directly taking many lines from Virginia Woolf's novel Waves for his single Riding The Waves.

Annoying that he dumped his original band because they wanted to write a few songs, yet he later covered a George Harrison song and later allowed Jim Cregan to co-write.
He then stated that "Come Up And See Me" was a poke at his old band for daring to suggest their writing any songs. 🤥

So he had two hits singles. He evidently had great PR behind him, as you’d think he was a huge success.
