I ADDED a 50 lb dumbbell to my TD 17KVX drum kick pad because I didn't want it to move on me at all!!😄
I have the td17kv. The main upgrades I made were a vh10 high hat and a cy15r ride. They were expensive but I took my time and I’m so happy I did. The cy5 and cy8 are nice for a crash or splash but to get a real “acoustic” feel you really need something thicker and more substantial. I also added a 15” lemon China and 9” lemon splash. It’s awesome.
Remember when buying from drum-tec in the USA you have to log in to get the true price. That snare is actually only $418 shipped to the states. All drum-tec prices include VAT taxes that are removed for USA customers.

Haha yeah, that caught my attention as well. I live in Sweden (Stockholm), and Germany is _fairly_ close, like you could drive there in a day, if you drive the whole day, but I wouldn't want to call it "just a drive away" for literally every person living in Europe : D

For my Td25kv I brought a pd128s-bc for my snare and a kd140 kick. A pdx12 as a floor tom and got rid of the pd85s rack toms using the already included 2 x 10 inch pdx100 all used on ebay ended up costing $730. Sold the pd85s for $150 and the kd9 for $80 so it cost me $500 to upgrade. Totally different kit to play.
Hi, Justin! Awesome video as always! You mentioned Pintech. Pintech started where I live here in the upstate of SC long ago and were really the first quality “aftermarket” pads and peripherals you could get. I used to visit their manufacturing facility often, became friends with the founder and actually was often given prototypes to try and critique. They moved on and I’ve been using Pintech ever since. The build quality was truly magnificent back then as exhibited by the fact the equipment I used to test and then own is still going strong on my kits 25yrs later! Not always the best business practice to build equipment that never breaks down as I’ve not had to buy more Pintech items since!
Which brings me here to ask you to strongly consider trying and reviewing Pintech electronics as it is today. I’d be surprised if it was still as perfectly bulletproof as it used to be, but I’d love to hear your take!

Let me just say your video quality has absolutely skyrocketed. I think you care a lot about your videos and put a lot of time into them and it shows. Thank you for that as well as all the info.

$10 at most stores.... cell phone holder for a bicycle works great on drums. Clips to a round tube i.e. cymbal stand, usually rotates to whatever position you like, and clamps phone in place. Thanks for the channel, really helped when I decided to get back into drumming this year and chose electronic for all the normal reasons.
I absolutely LOVE my Pintech drums! I recently upgraded all my sensors and phone pad to their newer stuff and it was well worth it. Amazing adjustable sensitivity built right into the pad! I use a 10" tom pad as my snare and it is great... I can only imagine what it is like to play on their Pheonix snare. I'll buy one someday. A boy can dream... I strongly suggest you reach out to the owner about getting a chance to play on his stuff.
Upgrades I enjoy on my Alesis Crimson:
$40 14" 3-zone ride which is being used as a 2-zone crash. Moved the 12" crash to the side for splash/china triggering.
$40 10" DM10 Tom pad, converted to mesh & cone trigger for a 4th tom. ($91 total cost for pad + conversion.)
$75 Alesis Burst/DM6 kit for rack, rack parts and extra/spare pads and cymbals. Using an L Clamp and a cymbal arm from that kit to support the additional tom and splash on my Crimson drum rack.
The addition of a bass transducer to my drum throne added a new dimension to my Roland TD15. I can feel the bass through the throne as well as hear it through the headphones. Makes it more like playing an acoustic kit.
ive heard great things. I use a subpac, not quite the same but definitely helps
I have my dogs old dog bed in my bass,I didn't know what to do it after he passed away so I figured I'd just use it as a mute so that way I have a little piece of him wherever I go.
Upgrading the ride cymbal definitely was a killer upgrade for me. The entry level Roland kits (TD4K, TD11K, T17KL and TD17KV) come with the two zone CY-8 as a ride. They are not balanced, so they don't move realistically, and you don't have a bell zone.
When the CY-13R came out back in 2010 I immediately got one, and although it is not much larger, it feels much more realistic and is much more sensitive. And it was only 139 Euros.

Buying the drum-tec diabolo 12x5" snare and 18x14" kick was the best upgrade to my set definitely. Also upgrading the roland cymbals to the largest ones worked out great.
Hi Justin, I recently got some pads from jobeky and even though I prefer drum tec mesh heads I think that the trigger system they provide it's actually nice. I got and 14 Inch bass drum and the trigger system was I mean the components were like you always say rock solid.
The pdx12 is a good snare for the money. I bought the the td17 kv so i also have the kd10, which feels very nice. Now I also have a place to put my phone now too. I actually use to have an extra drum pad to my left just so I had somewhere to put my phone.
These videos are a godsend. Ready to take the plunge from my alesis nitro mesh kit to something more dynamic. Have you tried magnatrack cymbolic cymbals? If they are good, then they are great value.

This is my favorite video of yours so far. It;s very hard to find products from companies outside of Roland, Yamaha or Alesis because of the way google and other sites track your tendencies. Any search i submit is always flooded with the same Guitar Center and Sweet Water ads ... all containing the same items.

I play a TD-25kv using DW5000 dual kick drum pedals and HH. I just ordered a Yamaha Stage Custom Birch 14" snare and 18" bass. I went with the Yamaha because the hardware looks to be of high quality for price point. I also ordered UFO triggers. Can't wait to get it all put together.
Drum-Tec makes very nice drums rack for e-drums. Some of their racks remind me of smaller versions of the DW or PDP rack. At least one of Drum-Tec's racks allows for hidden cable routing inside the tubes.

Justin, great job with the channel, how about a module upgrade, from the TD9 to the TD17 one? The TD9 pads work fairly well, so I was thinking of maybe getting the TD17 module, new cymbals and hi hat to try to change my game here... hope you read this... thanks.
Awesome upgrade suggestions. Definitely agree with the kick drum and how it makes a difference in the overall presence of the kit. I'm running a 22" kick drum, and I did have to switch out my rack in order to get everything to fit better and get the toms where I wanted them. Eventually I want to do a full acoustic to electric conversion using a couple small bop sized kits with 18" kicks. Anyway, great video man, as always!!
I get that everything has to be built well and everything but for what you actually get, drum stuff it way too expensive, especially when $500 is considered a reasonable price.

powerply mesh heads and my opinion (no disrespect)that there is a difference in feel and sound. I believe that the powerply heads are more transparent than the original mesh heads too. But to me there is a difference. I know that it is my opinion but you should do a comparison test video and take a vote if other people differ in opinion. that would be educational for the electronic drum lovers. I was thinking about doing it but you have a greater fan audience than me and this is about buying decisions on which mesh head may be better, so reaching the most drummers as possible is the better choice. maybe I'll do a follow up video after the comparison is completed.. ps I'm feeling the tee's and hoodie got to have one! My first killer upgrade was my Yamaha rhh135 hi hat by far, ive bought both, hi hat and bass drum stand from a dtx900 drum set and i didnt like the feel and the difference of the bass like the hi hat combo in my yamaha dtxpress iv, lets say ive convert it from standard to special set ;)
Before spending that much on a snare I would try a used snare and a Convertible Percussion or UFO type trigger. You will save hundreds.
Used Roland cymbals are very affordable. Ive had no problem with used Roland equipment. As long as its not abused it should work fine.

I think my next cheap upgrade will be splitting the Hihat into 2 pads so I can play normally or open handed
im following your from a while and..my compliment ....you give clear explanations about options and ..plus and less over different brands in de Edrums ..branche...so keep on nice done .. i see that there is still a lot of disinformation about E-Drums... wath i think personally a key change in the feel of get a pleasent ..dinamic sound is mousty related to...the mesch head i use drum tec..too..great one. 2 de correct mix of sensivity tresch hold etc...make a great difference too...and last i never will use stock sound from the companies that produce e drumset...but get ..for 150neuro....something like ez drummer ..etc.. those three things at list for me make the greatest difference..between a unrealistic e drums ..and a feel good one to be able to express your feel in a direct way without getting distracted....and compromise the pleasure of playng drums...sorry for my bed englisch...hope you get wath i mean ...thanks again greetings from holland. igor loingano

hey Justin, can you make a review on the Magnatrack Drum Triggers. Its a small company called Rare Earth Dynamics in Kentucky. They have Magnetic Trigger for Drumhead and Shell, called DST 1. Also they sell Trigger inside the shell called SST2 and most important cymbal trigger for low volume cymbals called MT-ITZ II. Hey guys! I just recently received a Simmons SD600. I was wondering what kind of upgrades I can use for this kit. I’m coming from an acoustic kit to eKit. So far I love the mobility around the kit. I can’t really tell the difference as far as mobility. I can move around both kits just fine! But as far as upgrades, what can I upgrade that is useful? Thanks so much! From California.

Hi Justin. I’ve got a TD-17 module in the mail now. I bought ezdrummer 2 and RT-30 triggers for my acoustic set ..a good mixer and 15” EV speaker. I watched a vid you did on latency. You downloaded AIO and something else to lower that problem. I’m using my iPad this morning and tried to download it. Apparently it is not available on IOS? My computer has windows 7 so I won’t have a problem? What was the second part I need after the AIO ? I can’t find your vid telling me that part. Thx . Greg.

I wanna convert an acoustic set to electric, but I can' have a set that makes a lot of noise. Its gotta be quiet as the roland kit I have. Not 1 complaint, before I got these electric drums I was playing bass for years, I started on acoustic drums but the cops were at my door everyday, they said they hated having to tell me to turn it down but they had too. So I can't own an acoustic set. Why I started playing bass to begin with, every band Ive been in I played bass. I am a drummer at heart. So can I convert an acoustic set to electric and have them sound just like the electric kit noise wise? Ive commented on a few of your videos and never get an answer.

Pretty cool stuff. I have a ?4u. I was going to get the Roland TD-17 kvxs for $1599 last week .I waited and now it just went up to $1699. For $1799 I can get the TD - 25k. Should I get the TD - 25k or stick with the TD - 17 kvxs ? Which is the better of the two ? It's only a hundred dollar difference.
Late comment and you've probably already made your purchase. In my opinion TD-17KVX is probably the best deal though I prefer the td-25 sounds.

You don't. We could all play drums on 4 inch rubber disks if we wanted to. But it's not as fun

I disagree about the bass drum thing. One of the reasons I switched to edrums was to cut down on the size and weight of the gear I had to haul. The setup time is about the same, but I love being able to fit my entire rig into a pair of wheeled suitcases that I can throw in the back of my Uber driver's car. . And I don't have to deal with running mics and soundchecking individual drums. I send a balanced stereo mix to the house, and if the FOH engineer thinks I need more/less snare, bass drum, etc., I make a few adjustments on the head and I'm all set. I have no interest in tricking the audience into thinking my edrums are "real" drums, and I like the streamlined look of the electronic kit.
I can see both sides. I was very happy with my td20 but I just did a conversion kit and it is sooo much fun. The full size bass feels great.
I was surprised that it actually took up less floor space too.

South African Rand to Dollar is R14.50 to $1. So $200 is about R2900. So this video ain't happening. We need a video for under $100.
eDrums and Acoustic drums are 2 DIFFERENT instruments. This quest to make eDrums be acoustic or a stand-in needs to end. eDrums can produce many sounds aside from drum samples. They can trigger literally anything. Acoustic drums produce beats. That's it. From a fundamental point of view they're totally different. Once that sinks in you can make better use of eDrums. If you need to make them into acoustic drums, just buy acoustic drums.
I used to agree but after converting my acoustic set Im leaning the other way. It just feels alot better than my td20 which I like.
