@65Drums Hey Justin, I'm alex I play drums at church I was wondering if you could make a video on church e-drums like best e-drums for church the dubget is 1000 to 5000 dollars. Thank you
Thank you for featuring my drum 7:01. You nailed it my friend. That's a pd 14-DS and yes I ❤my Efnote ride cymbal ...its 20 inch cymbal biggest electronic ride cymbal you can get. I now have vh14d and moved those hats to right side in a remote hit stand as secondary. Loving it....best of both worlds 🥁 !!!
Red cymbals are an Aussie company importing direct from Turkey. They're really nice cymbals. I was noticing the lack of Yamaha too. I've made a double bass, 3 up 2 down rig out of 2x full DTX-750 kits and I love it. Probably need a nicer snare though. Like these types of vids 🤘
This video was way more useful than I thought it would be. I’m in the process of creating a hybrid kit and seeing all the different options available was really helpful.
4:40 lol brings me back to my first kit. I used a guitar stand and duct taped a drumstick to hold my ride cymbal. I balanced the stand on this bright orange milk crate we found at the back of a convenience store.
I have to say, I am encouraged to see other people are doing the same thing I am. I thought I was crazy buying pieces and parts and building a Frankenstein multi-module e-kit, but here we have stuff even more advanced. Love this, thank you, Justin for this segment.
This was such a great video! Ironically I watched this literally while I was unpacking/organizing all the new components delivered today for my first ever (budget friendly) A2E conversion attempt! Ha! So, given some rather meager budget constraints? Here's what I settled on for now: Roland TD-6V module -$150 Lemon cymbals -$300 An early 90's Mapex Mars Series shell pack (12", 16", 22") - Already had in storage Boom Theory Space Muffins 12"x 5" wood shell dual zone snare (mylar Remo Ambassador head) - $65!! Super lucky Ebay find!! Remo Silent Stokes 12"/16"/22" 3pk -$80 Ddrum Red Shot pack (w/ a pair of backup spares left over)- $99 2 x 12" Pintech rim mutes (one for snare, the other I cut in half to cover the bottom of each tom -$20 Obviously not the most premium of component, but IMO not too shabby of an option for just a bit over $700 total! That is... If I can assemble it all and not have too many hi-cups along the way. LMAO! Wish me luck! Hopefully I'll get to share the final results for the next potential sequel episode? That or it'll be a pic of he pulling my hair out in frustration! ROTFLMAO!! Peace Justin! ✌
Re: getting signals to FOH when using a VST/DAW. I use Logic Pro and send Stereo L/R out to FOH and the sound guy can use Logic Remote to mix the multitrack before it comes to him via stereo out. Just need an iPad (which is common) and a wifi network (sore wifi routers are way to come by) 😊
Really love that i found this channel. I just got back into E-Drums and in my mind there was ever only "that roland set" or that "alesis-set" ... You really made me see the endless possibilities to combine stuff and be creative with the setup!
Gotta shout out to Luke with the lefty kit. That room setup went unmeantioned!! The awesome large window with the trees right outside AND the dog bed really caught my attention. My dog loves to lay down next to me when I practice my guitar. I have at least one fan🐶. Love it🤘💙
Hell Justin, thanks for including my kit and story! Love your videos and your reviews where a big part in my decisions on purchasing the Alesis drumset to end all Alesis drumsets ;-) The pic is from my first gig in a long time and the first with this setup. It was a blast playing! PS The triggerpedal next to the hihat is my panic pedal; it kills all loops going out of the multipad.
I love these types of videos! I'm still researching the e-drums I want to put together, so seeing people's setups gave me a lot of ideas. And hopefully I'll have a kit by the time you do part 2. :)
I'd love to see a video like this again and definitively would like to know about it and send in my drum set! :D Also, sick about the butt kickers! I had zero idea this was a thing, yesterday had a friend over thats a band I like, he's the drummer, and he plays acoustic only and he was trying my new kit and at some point was saying something like "ahhh it still lacks the... oomp, the kick or something", we talked a bit about it and concluded its the impact you feel on the body when smashing on acoustic... and this sort of simulates part of that feeling, quite interesting! thanks!
On the Ludwig kit in this video the snare and 1 tom have Roland pd120 crossbars installed into the Ludwig shells. 1 tom has Convertible Percussions trigger and one has a Pintech trigger. Bass drum is a Roland kt10.
ahaha nice I saw the vid of the guy at 8:46 before and even commented on it! cool stuff if I had heard I'd have sent in my kit! really love it and take effort in it
Great video Justin! Reading the comments there seems to be alot on the "cheek by cheek distribution of force"... hope you'll allow me to use that! Lol Through the 80's, 90's into the 2000's I was a drum tech for Deen Castronovo, Nick Menza, Ginger Fish, Mike Mangini, etc. Both studio and world tours.I have been customizing drum thrones for drummers for years with this mod, usually getting signal sent from the monitor engineer. As there were no manufacturers at the time, adapt & overcome.. these are Aura Pro shakers (mechanical subwoofers) used in car audio for years now available in theater seating, gaming chairs, etc. My setup is true stereo, the amps are Amazon finds, 300W with a "Sub" mode and adjustable crossover. The only negative is once you've used them it's hard not to have them! The kit was a gift last year from Deen, I've added a couple of toms and cymbel as mentioned but the throne is the highlight of playing this kit! I think you have found a topic you can run with for many more videos! Great channel, one of my faves!! Rob.
Hi Justin! As always, great videos! As for the DrumIt module, it does not support external HD. But over USB it pops up as a HD on PC/Mac. Then drag'n'drop sound files on it, restart and play the new sounds. Bob's your uncle!
Justin - could you do a video on the basics of using Dante with an e-drum kit triggering a VST in a live setting? I'm curious about the example you referenced here using it with a MacBook or Mac Mini hosting Superior Drummer? Thanks.
I got my first drum set when I was 16. For my birthday I got a 5-piece Maxwin by Pearl. Although It came with the hardware, it did not come with cymbals. 6 months later I got a crash/ride and hi-hats for Christmas. SO, between my birthday and Christmas I used paper plates as cymbals. LOL it sounds insane but I was able to make do with them until Christmas to learn several songs on the drums. :-)
Loved it !!! And most importantly, reading through the comments, is it helps people decide what to do in their setups, which is great !!! Maybe I'll send mine in for shidz and giggles...lol Not too much of a Frankenstein, but who knows if it'll help someone if you use it. Thanks for making great content !!!!! 👍😁👍
This is great Justin, just really inspiring to learn about all those ppl out there making creative use of the same gear basically and reinventing the whole field, this is a huge part of what this channel is about (for me anyway) - just to keeping up on updates from the E drum community. Tnx for doing this one, I hope u can do another.
All very awesome kits for sure. I am glad I did not submit mine. I use a 2011 Alesis DM-10 module with a 2018 DM-10 MKII module altogether and it does sound good, I just wish I had a Frankenstein setup myself. My favorite was the Alesis and Roland setup.
Please make a part 2 video. I just switch from acoustic to electric for playing out, would like some dues and don'ts advice I'm playing e-drums for live.Thank you
Damn Justin, I don't know how I missed your community post so I can post my junk-ass setup. 🤣😂 Oh well. But at least my good channel supporter in Mike Fournier got his in. . .
Hey Justin! My setup is: Remo Silent Heads on an old acoustic kit > Roland RT30K, RT30HR, RT30H > Roland TD-50 Upgrade Pack (Digital Snare,Ride and Module.) I hardly use the in-built sounds and use this setup as a glorified MIDI Controller to triggers my VSTs (SD 3..). I like the RT line because I can take them on tour and make a hybrid setup (Roland SPD-SX Pro) as well. Now in 2023, Do the Roland triggers still hold up? I am at a point where I want to buy a fresh set and get rid of the old ones because they haven take a beating on the road. Would you recommend buying the Roland RT line again or should I look at other options? Thank you :) Would you also recommend switching to Roland Mesh heads from Single Remo Silent Heads for more accurate triggering?
Justin, any advice for buying different parts that will be compatible to my yamaha dtx module?planning to change my ride cymbals and snare drum but i want to buy a different brand and not ymaha's
Unfortunately I was/am in the process of changing a bunch of stuff with my set. Taking a picture now wouldn't be representative of what I actually play. Maybe if you ever do a part two.
One reason i could never do e-kits is these black rubber or plastic cymbals. Is there sensors you can buy for low volume cymbals like the L80s? O love the feel of those and could do those paired with mesh heads instead of rubber pads
There’s a lot of options for low volume cymbals; the problem is their still CYMBALS, which means they have a long decay and are really hard to get a clear, singular signal per hit. You could dampen the hell out of them, or if you have a really solid module like the eDrumin 10, you can really dial it in.
What is the point of that throne shaker thing? I'm currently learning on an acoustic kit but yesterday I ordered a Roland td-17kvx2. This is getting expensive already and looking at some of these kits, it's only going to get worse haha.
Hey Justin -I have an interesting question for you. Do you have a grandfather or even great gradfather who taught music class in Ohio at Copley Jr. high school? I know its a longshot but my music teacher from the 60's has your last name and from same area. Would be a big coincidence! Thanks! BTW another great video!
I do have a Grandfather that was a long time substitute teacher, but it's probably not him. Turns out there's 2 groups of Greenawalt's living in Ohio and PA. Unrelated German immigrants that Americanized their last name in the EXACT same way a few hundred years ago. Very confusing for us
I had the first set u simmions and the rep told me they were unbeakable and gave me a steal bar to hit it that it wouldn’t beak I hit it and it went it to pieces. I was at Washington music, Chuck Blevins music store demonstrating them and it just shattered and his eyes wet and mind and body work crazy
watching this video 2/3 of the way through there is a 2 piece kit that uses a DANTE device to plug in a sata6 cable to front of house for his module sounds to direct. My Question is how does front of house connect to my sata6 cable ? Most venues / small bars we play at barley have a pa the works let a lone a nice system. Would I just buy a device that can plug my sata 6 cable into their pa like a sata 6 in to xlr out or multi 1/4in outs???? I've played acoustic sets for years on tour with a kick trigger and only had to worry about that, but now i have Alesis Strike pro. the module defiantly has the low volume issues Ive heard so much about but i work around that . i will be going on tour again soon and would like to know how i can send my sounds to the front of house better. Can you post a video on how to do this or is there another channel that you recommend for this question?????
Episode 2 of this series is up!

That's basically why I see your videos as soon as you post them...
Thanks for roasting my kit! I was expecting some hardcore roast but you're literally so nice, awesome video man!
Mom, I'm on TV! ...well, not on TV, but something better: a 65 drums video!
Perfect
19:40 thats my drumset!
Yeah my drum was shown... Premier green drum.. thks Justin . Keep up the good work.. always fun to watch you and very educational...
Well darn mine was on the main pic but I never saw it in the video
bro you were the first kit I talked about! 57 seconds into the video
@@65Drums right you are. I was just waking up and excited. Ty very much for doing the vid
So many awesome kits! Great job as always Justin, thanks for showing my kit at 17:48. Glad you liked my Tama rug 🤘
thanks for sending it in!
Wow! I made it, Mom! I’m the kit at 12:14. You nailed everything.
1:22 "but of course, the first thing that jumps out at you" no, it's the cat.

(and yes the kick didn't stay in place but it worked..mostly)
Did not see that “cheek by cheek distribution” coming lmao

Really cool to see all of these kits pieced together!
This was such a great video!
Ironically I watched this literally while I was unpacking/organizing all the new components delivered today for my first ever (budget friendly) A2E conversion attempt!
Ha!
So, given some rather meager budget constraints? Here's what I settled on for now:
Roland TD-6V module -$150
Lemon cymbals -$300
An early 90's Mapex Mars Series shell pack (12", 16", 22") - Already had in storage
Boom Theory Space Muffins 12"x 5" wood shell dual zone snare (mylar Remo Ambassador head) - $65!! Super lucky Ebay find!!
Remo Silent Stokes 12"/16"/22" 3pk -$80
Ddrum Red Shot pack (w/ a pair of backup spares left over)- $99
2 x 12" Pintech rim mutes (one for snare, the other I cut in half to cover the bottom of each tom -$20
Obviously not the most premium of component, but IMO not too shabby of an option for just a bit over $700 total!

Great channel 👏
Thank you 😊
Really great video, please keep doing it
That first Pearl kit, he missed out on a CAT percussion joke

This was so fun!
I remember Thomas Lang using 2 sets of T20 in NAMM 2007.
Looked pretty epic.

yes do part 2
16:04 My freshman year of college, there were six people just in my hallway who had the laptop on the left (including me).
Loved the video.
These elaborate sets have a maze of wiring that are nonexistent in acoustic drums.
Please make a part 2 video. I just switch from acoustic to electric for playing out, would like some dues and don'ts advice I'm playing e-drums for live.Thank you
Make it yearly? I have a hybrid that I'm building. Would love your thoughts when its ready.
Wish I would have known you were doing this so I could have submitted my kit!
Sorry about that! Maybe subscribe so you see the community posts on YT follow the instagram :)
Thought I was already, but I just subscribed👍
If I had know you wanted kit photos, I would have set me sone kit up properly with all the bells and whistles.

@@mfournier01 Had I seen the post, I would of definitely submitted my crap.

I'm interested in what "new mold" Lemon is working on. Is this in reference to a more flexible plastic like the new Roland cymbals?
Love it!!!!
This video makes me want to show off my kit 😅
Shoot, I want to send you a pic of the electronic kit that I had mounted to a lamp.
feel free to send it whenever. I might just stockpile new kits over time and then make a part 2 a few months from now or somthing
I absolutely love my Speed Cobras.
They almost seemed to fast at first. Now that Im used to it I love them. Like better with the Cobra Coil then without.
nice! I d love to share my kit in your next video
sure send it anytime and I'll stockpile the video clips/photos
The "Red" cymbals are hand made in Istanbul and seem to be really affordable.
Cheek by cheek distribution of force.
Way to quote the bible.
I got a speed cobra and brought a strap from Gibraltar to convert it from chain to strap.
