    I think that you guys gave up way too early on this one. If you soaked that in some Salt-Away for about an hour, followed by some Evapo-Rust for an hour, and then some Marvel Mystery Oil for an hour, it would be just as good as it was three hours earlier! 😊

      I don’t know about rust but soaking these parts in vinegar would really clean them. I would love to see a video of trying to save the engine! Love this channel!

    if you had a boring bar, throw some 1mm over pistons in it, find a good used ebay head, grind the crank journals and add oversize bearings... it could work - but not financially.

    It was interesting to put it to work removing all the rust and dirt and just changing the bearings. I bet it's possible because I've seen engines recover in worse condition. There must be more people interested in seeing how to recover an engine than seeing destroying one that can be recovered or at least taking advantage of some parts (what is called recycling) but you don't know what it is and all you know is to destroy.

    If a guy had no money, and needed a winter project, it could probably be cleaned up and rebuilt. But for a professional to do it, the labor cost would be more than a new motor would cost. And your name a reputation would be tied to it when it fails later down the road. Thats why things like this don’t get rebuilt.

    What a waste! If the owner had just flushed it out with fresh water (dunked it in a garbage can), changed the oil and ran it to get it hot immediately after it sunk it likely would have been fine.

    • @NeverEnoughPyro40
      @NeverEnoughPyro40 Рік тому

      You backyard mechanics have no idea what you’re talking about! First of all dunking the engine in a garbage can full of freshwater will not rinse out all of the salt water! You do realize that when an engine goes under it will be subjected to pressures much greater than in the garbage can, Salt water will be forced into places (depending on the pressure and how deep it went) that the freshwater will not rinse away due to the lack of pressure!

    I’m interested to get advice on what the owner should have done immediately on salvaging this engine?? Do you remove the plugs and flood in some marvel mystery oil or something similar?? Two stroke oil just to flood out the moisture? What is your recommendation?

    • @bsrktm1
      @bsrktm1 Рік тому

      Do what is necessary to get it running ASAP. Flush everything in fresh water, drain the oil, replace the filter, flush the fuel system, take all the electrical connectors apart and spray with WD40, put in fresh oil and spin over the engine without spark plugs. If you can get it running and put some heat into it, change the oil and filter a couple more times, it has a good chance of being ok.
