Both paintings are lovely. The first is very serene and the second has much more energy. Thanks for the demonstration. I think this will be very helpful.
So, it's Christmas day and the grand kids have finished opening their gifts and so have the rest of us. Now, I retreat to my private space to watch a couple, just a couple, of your videos. But, as it turns out, I've been watching you for about 3 hours now. So, I'm gonna take a break. But I want to tell you that I love your Patreon page as well as your you tube videos and your blog etc etc. I learn so much from all of them. Thank you soooo much for sharing your know how! Really appreciate it!!
What a difference and more realistic. Gotta love dirt 🤗, ❤ your work, video is cohesive and light but with tons of tips. Ideas abound. 👋 Heidi. Thank you for your videos they are encouraging. 🤗
I have gotten to this stage on more than 1 occasion and finishing is the difficult part! Great introduction of the "dirt" to bring life to the greens, I will continue to look for a finishing touch video. I am also interested in the mark making video, if you have not gotten to that one yet, there is still interest! thanks for sharing your expertise and I am glad to have subscribed to your channel!
I liked this painting. I am in second grade and love to color. I will try to use some of your tips about painting when I use chalk. I don't have any pastels, yet. I'll ask Santa for some. I might get some at the end of this semester. Thank you for your video. I watched it on Sept. 28, 2018.I loved it so much! Thank you, Maya! Hi, as you can see my granddaughter and I watched this together. I use closed caption (THANKS SO MUCH) and she read along, so it was a double lesson in art and reading! I just retired after 40 years in education and hope to learn how to do pastels. My Mom was an accomplished artist, so maybe there's some of that in me. Thank you for your explanations, clarity, and wonderful demonstration. Adios...Marty
Good morning settled down to watch your greens video on u tube. Believe l have watched all your videos thank you for all you do. Just got my Ludwig floral and landscape set you put together can hardly wait to try them. There are not enough adjectives to explain how much you have helped me. Thank you very much, l plan to meet you in 2021 in New Mexico.
@@KarenMargulis Thanks yes please that would be great I only started with pastels last year and I am loving the experience and you have helped me so much thanks again
"The dog wasn't bad.She just needed attention." That's a wise saying. To me you are an absolute genius for you can conclude things up in a simply yet educational way and paint so naturally. Love.
Gotta love any painter who says with understanding, my dog is not behaving badly, but just wants attention. But what can you tell someone who prefers the first all green one?
Love your video...I’m new with pastels and have learned so much from you. What do u use to scumble in your background at the beginning? I couldn’t see what it was..
I recently got a big set of Rembrandt soft pastels and I've been hearing that 1000 grit sandpaper makes a great paper. But I can't find any large sheets of it (8 x 11 or bigger). Anyone know a good place to get this or should I just use pastel drawing paper?
Good observation. The key work is rather...it isn't quite dead center. But since the tree is the star I used my artistic license to break that 'rule' of composition! I hope it worked!
I am obsessed with your class. Thank you so much Karen for your enthusiasm in teaching and your generosity.
I don't know how I missed this video. It's so smart and so good. I LOVE dirt--even our Georgia red clay!
Both paintings are lovely. The first is very serene and the second has much more energy. Thanks for the demonstration. I think this will be very helpful.
I learn so much from you. Pastel painting is a new medium for me and I had no idea how to work with them until I found your videos. Thumbs up from me.
Splendid Karen
Very natural
Congratulations from Portugal
Carlos
How wonderful! Im a new pastelist, and I found it fascinating how you created the painting with almost no blending , just massing and color. Awsome!
Karen in pastels you are like the song of Tina Turner " Simply the best "
Congratulations from Portugal

Thank you Jane! It is my pleasure to share with you!!
Wow. I loved the first picture, until you did the second. Well, I still liked it, but it was wonderful to see how it took on a life
To under paint or not to under paint? Very useful lesson! Thank you Karen.
I actually liked your painting better than the photo. By the way, green is my favorite color. Nature is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your insight.
Thank you so much!
Amazing! I learn so much from your videos.
Thank you, Karen, for this great demo.
Thanks Karen for your dirt tips I used it when I did a poppy field. Love the effect. Do you use a similar thing when painting the sea.?
Thanks for watching! I do have a similar method of building layers for all subjects that I paint! I need to paint a seascape demo!

Thank you! I rarely use pastels. Fortunately this applies to other mediums as well.
Hi Karen, I really love your videos and lessons. And your paintings are stunning! Warm greetings from Germany! xx
A very interesting lesson! Thanks a lot
Very useful, Karen. Thank you.
Amazing. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
профессионально!!! полезные уроки
thank you for your videos so helpful but you used something to blend the underpainting what is it ?
Great study, thanks.
Gotta love any painter who says with understanding, my dog is not behaving badly, but just wants attention. But what can you tell someone who prefers the first all green one?
I love your videos. I'm going to try pastels. What kind of camera do you use to take your photos? Your phone ??
What tool did you use to blend at the beginning? I’m a beginner and have pastels and 600 sandpaper and everything else is new to me.

Ssooo fine thank you very much
How do you choose a color for underpainting?))
This is a big topic!! I cover it in detail over in my patreon group. I will add it to my list for YT demo
Thanks a lot! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge! This is very important for beginners.
The tree is rather centered in the middle of the panel? Is that "good design"?
Good observation. The key work is rather...it isn't quite dead center. But since the tree is the star I used my artistic license to break that 'rule' of composition! I hope it worked!
bellissimo 🌹
Thank you. Dirt here I come
Have fun!!
