    Thank you Karen 👍 🙂 everytime i watch you i always learn something new about pastel, my late father's main medium besides graphites. My first loves are watercolour and charcoal, but my heart always going back and forth with pastel, either soft or oil pastel.

    Great instruction and techniques here...Thank you for sharing:) It looks like your paper is attached directly to the black foam board. I could not find the videos that you mentioned (of Nancy ?). I guess I'm wondering if there are any tricks to "temporarily" attaching the paper directly to the black board to secure it...

    Dear Karen, I have been wondering how do I know when I need to start out with a wet wash of color or just no wash underneath?? By the way I have been loving this new series of finding the best pastel for a beginner... when do we get to see some more sets? By the way I think you are pretty great!!👍👍😃👋

    • @KarenMargulis
      @KarenMargulis  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for your kind words! I wish there was a quick answer to your question but the truth is there is really no right or wrong time to do a wet wash. It depends on the subject and the overall mood you want to create. The more you experiment the more you will be able to make more informed decisions. I have reviewed other sets over on my Patreon group. If you have not yet joined us I hope you will consider it! www.patreon.com/karenmargulis

    When you mount paper on a thicket board, and frame later with a mat, how do you offset the depth of the boat around the edges so the mat board is flush. I hope this makes sense.
    Also, is the foam core you buy from the dollar tree acid free? Or do you just use that for a backing board when painting? If not, do you buy a different type, ie. Acid free to put behind your painting when you store them in a clear sleeve. I think that may have been the question. Which color do you use for storing?

    • @KarenMargulis
      @KarenMargulis  2 роки тому

      Honestly I don't do any framing myself anymore. When I did I would use acid green mat board for the backing which is thinner than the foam core. The dollar tree foam core is supposed to be acid free but I only use to for painting support boards. I do use it when I use clear bags but I am not worried because it is not for long term storage.

    i want to try working on sanded paper since i've heard it is amazing, but its very expensive where i live. can i know cheaper alternatives or how to prepare it at home? and btw this session was amazing!

    • @KarenMargulis
      @KarenMargulis  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! You can use clear gesso to add grit to unsanded paper!

    • @mjpete27
      @mjpete27 2 роки тому

      I practice on Masonite panels coated with clear gesso. I can wash off the panel and keep the rough surface and start over with a clean surface. I am still learning about how to use these pastel sticks and I have not created very many finished artworks! Good luck!
