Why The iPhone Doesn't Come With A Charging Block

- If you’ve recently purchased a new iPhone, you may’ve been surprised that there was no charging brick in the box. This was a change Apple made in the past year, and earned them quite a bit of backlash. After all, why wouldn’t they include a charging brick with a thousand-dollar phone? Well that’s what I’ll explain in this video.
- Наука та технологія
To address the environmental issue, Apple could have just included a coupon in the box to pick up a free or discounted charging block at an Apple Store for those who needed one.
Haha gottem
@S P No one wants a free charger if they already have one/multiple. And how could this coupon thing be abused?
Good idea.

@Largemouth so that if you already somehow have the charging brick already, you can just charge it instead of buying a cable
I feel like they should have an option to let you choose whether you want to add the charging brick instead of just removing it completely
Thats what i think. They should have given people that dont want a charging brick money off. But still wouldn't make sense because nobody would have had a usb brick so you have to buy one anyway
or....how about giving the fucking brick which costs them 2$ to make instead of lying about saving the environment all while packaging it in a separate box that requires additional manufacturing, logistics and makes the environment suffer more. Apple are full of shit since Steve died
50$ more
It doesn’t even save the environment. In most cases, it causes even more packaging trash. Mrwhostheboss made a good video on that.
Arun's video highlights an issue but doesn't actually provide the full picture, and the solutions he provides are not substantial at all. I personally agree with his points, but they are very surface level.
@@InhibitProgress_ So what is the “full picture” then?
But the packaging is recyclable.
@@sidma5661 It depends on what you buy. If you buy some third-party charging brick, it might not be.
@@sidma5661 even official Apple products' packaging aren't all recyclable. The box may be recyclable, but the plastic may not. If it is a PVC shell, then it cannot be recycled. This theory is easily debunked, because most people will actually trade in their last phone with the company for a much better discount on their new phone, and you don't have to give away your charger when doing trade-ins. Also, he still thinks people want to use wired headphones with their phone. Only audiophiles will be buying wired headphones to use with their phone. im starting to think that people forgot what a business means
If they want to save the environment, they could have made their boxes 100% recycled materials as well as carbon friendly chargers.
It is true about the eco friendliness of not including a charger to an extent. To people who already had a USB-c power brick, there wouldn't have been an issue, but for someone like myself who didn't I had to buy one separately. This means that there was extra packaging with my iPhone than if they had included a charging brick. Also, that charging brick I had to buy took up extra space on a truck, used more energy to pack and ship separately, took up more space in the garbage/recycling trucks and used more energy being disposed of/recycled. I'm guessing most people would have had to have brought a separate power brick for their iPhone 12s, because as you said, the 12 is the first iPhone to come with a lightning to USB-c cable and most of the power bricks in circulation were original USB only. Even if those who brought a USB-c power brick didn't buy the official Apple one, the same problem would have existed by purchasing one from a third party manufacturer.
Personally I think they would have been better off including a USB-c power brick with the iPhone 12 series, and then with the next generation of iPhones not including it in the box.
I love that you are a conscientious fanboy. You love apple and the products they make, but don’t shy away from some of the less savory aspects of the brand.

The iPhone 11 Pro had the best accessories bundle (Lightning headset, fast 18W charging adapter and USB C to Lightning cable included), if you switched to a 12 series from that model you would be covered, but if you upgraded from an older model you were SOL and had to pay the “Apple Tax” for OEM or MFi accessories. Sadly the “regular” 11 still also had the old “slow” 5W charger and USB A cable.
Excellent content as usual, really informative and entertaining, fantastic work!!!
To be fair, I have several power blocks laying around from past upgrades. I really didn’t care that my 12 Pro Max didn’t come with one, I went ahead and bought a couple cable/block pairs anyway while I tossed my old ones into my desk for any coworker who’s forgotten theirs.
Why buy Apple’s plain old charger bricks and cords when you could get fast and reliable Anker ones instead? I use them all the time and that’s why I’ve never complained about the loss of the charger brick in the iPhone box.

i’m not complaining about the charging brick because i got the ipad 8th gen. The iPad has a 20 Watt charging brick in it that has a port of usb-c so i use my iPad charger. I get really fast charging
Exactly. I haven't used any chargers that have came with device I have bought in years. I have multiple good chargers I use for every device. They are all from Anker. IMHO this was good decision from Apple. Few years and everyone is doing that. Someone have to do it first.

“to reduce carbon emissions” yet all we have to do now is waste even more money on separate charging bricks and headphones so they have to ship out even more causing just as much emission. they should just include the option to buy a phone with or without them depending on the person buying them and whether or not they already have the power brick and earphones
I’m glad that you mentioned the financial incentive that they had, and that it was not all about “helping the environment”
I wanted to throw in my opinion on this topic real quick.
I personally feel that having a charger should've been a choice for the consumer, not from Apple. For example, if someone buys the new iPhone 12 and they need a charging brick, I feel that they should get it with no additional cost if they desire it. However, for those who don't need it, will just get the phone without a charger. (Xiaomi did this with their recent model phone and I thought personally it was a good idea)
people like free stuff, everyone would be getting it lol. But if one has to pay for it, they would think twice before throwing away an old one or let it rot on a shelf.
The additional package for the brick you're forced to but would be even worse for the environment than a bigger box
Every Company :"Save the environment"
yet proceeds to wrap their products in plastic and different boxes
Have you bought anything lately or read about packaging? Most companies use mostly recycled materials. They are literally using trash for packaging.
