    Man you are too cool! I'm a pretty aspiring amateur experimental electronic musician living in a digital world, I love learning about the maths and physics behind sounds. Making music is so therapeutic, nothing beats tweaking a synth for 4 hours straight searching for that perfect sound! Thanks for taking the time to make this awesome video, parting your knowledge to the world is an amazingly selfless thing to do so thanks for spending the time showing us a fraction of your amazing world!

    So much doubt hidden in your words, but you process such knowledge. Such a wealth of ideas and experience. It like you think people aren’t gunna like it as much as you?
    That’s bologna!
    There’s so much packed into a 20 minute video that wouldn’t take years for someone to work out in there spare time. Challenge people with your enthusiasm! It’s contagious! Who gives a fuck if there’s math involved wth it! It’s a fundamental property with what’s happening in the machine. Anybody serious about it, and this sharing that same feeling as you, will keep going with you. The video isn’t for anybody else but “those people”; from one of “those people”.
    Very refreshing to see a UA-cam tutorial with SUBSTANCE. Everybody could learn a lot about not only this ring modulator but also themselves watching this mans enthusiasm for Music!

      Thanks - and that's by far one of the nicest posts I've had! I've always loved hearing about Finland. Do you still have mobile phone throwing championships? And is the band LORDI still playing?

    • @Ellotus13
      @Ellotus13 7 років тому

      Good questions!
      The mobile throwing championship is on a break now, they're having some troubles with the organizing the event. I believe the latest contest was in 2013, but I might be wrong there. But we always have the wife-carrying contest in its absence, so I think well be just fine!
      Lordi is still active, they released an album last year called Monstereophonic - Theaterror vs. Demonarchy but I believe they've lost some of their relevance over the years. I think they are still getting crowds but they aren't that well known anymore.

      or just Pulse width not modulation

    • @murderousmaths
      @murderousmaths  5 років тому +1

      Hi! Frequency is how fast the oscillations come - so in the audio range different frequencies sound like different notes. Pulse width refers to the wave shape and changing it affects the tone. At its simplest, a perfect square wave looks like a row of square boxes sitting evenly spaced on a line. If the pulse width is altered, the boxes become thinner until they just become spikes. So Pulse Width Modulation is when the pulse width is changing and you hear a sort of phasing effect. I'm hoping to do a vid about my Odyssey soon, more then!

    Have to wonder what you think about Frequency Modulation!

    • @murderousmaths
      @murderousmaths  7 років тому

      I prefer the tones that come from a Ring Mod myself, plus with a RM pedal it's nice that you can use it on any sound - voices, drums whatever. For Frequency Modulation, you can usually just control one oscillator with another, but there's still a lot of fun to be had. The Moog Voyager has a switch to FM Osc 1 with Osc 3, and by changing the waveform of Osc 3 it gives a stunning range of effects.
