This series is awesome! I used to watch a lot of your channel back in 2016 when I was starting out as a gigging bassist. You're an inspiration and a dedicated musician--thanks for your hard work!
This series is coming out really pretty. Moving on i'd really like to see some playing earlier in the episodes (even as a sneak peak to some of the sounds) and maybe have the studio a little more lighten up for us to geek out on the pedals. Other than that, great content man.
Excellent series thus far Janek! As a huge admirer of your playing and your work with Nerve as well as a fellow owner of the MF-101, MF-102 and Mf-107 I'm thoroughly enjoying having a deeper insight into your use of these effects. The MF-102 is amazing!
loving the series Janek!! Love my Moogerfoogers! and yeh for me the expression stuff is the winner especially on a pedal like this! Also the MF-102 is one of the best tremolos ever!! and the drive sounds pretty cool aswell!
I thought it was time bass players had something that was both informative, AND kind of nice to look at. I hope I'm working towards being better at both of those categories. There's so much out there for guitar like this, but hardly anything that in-depth for bass. I take my cues from two of my favorite shows: That Pedal Show, and the JHS Show. Those guys obviously know about million percent more than me when it comes to all things pedals, so it's a great source of information and production aesthetic when I'm researching and learning.
Made me pull out my Gonkulator. Also, you can run a patch cable between the expression outputs and inputs on the moogerfoogers and unlock secret tones. For example, patching between the Envelope out and the Amount input on the MF101 for a more aggressive filter sweep.
I'm really loving the series! Just a crazy idea, maybe you could do a pedal studio special with John Davis and pick his brain and have him show some of the crazyness he uses. Like the eurorack stuff and so on... Just an idea ;)
When this whole global pandemic has passed, I will absolutely be traveling all over the world to sit down and talk to my favorite users of bass pedals. There will be guests, and there will be bass!
Some time ago I built a circuit called Tim Escobedo's "Thing Modulator, to which I added a couple of mods made by me, which I think the pedal needs to keep. A wey/dry mix control, a rotary potentiometer with 6 different tone capacitors and an LDR as an expression pedal and right now I'm working on a reverb/delay circuit that I want to implement. The most amazing thing of all is that all this works with a simple tone decoder called LM567CMOS, cheap and easy to find. With this "Thing" I can get very close to the sound of the Moog that You show in your video but without breaking the bank account... It's incredible, that guy (Escobedo) was a fucking genius. He uploaded a file containing very cool ideas and then disappeared...
My EP booster arrives tomorrow... gonna plug that into the BOSS OC-2 I grabbed last week... into my MoogerFooger MF-102 and then into my GigFX ProCHOP V2 into my BISCUITby Oto Machines; will play around with some FUZZ in there too figure out where it fits best... then into my Kemper Profiling Amp for amps and effects ~ thanks for these vid's Janek!
Hey Janek! I love this series! Thank you! For me, the Minifogger Moog MF Ring is a great alternative between the MF-102 and the EHX pedal and sounds fantastic on bass. Musically more on the Moogerfogger side and at least with one EXP In possibility for Frequency range. Plus it runs on 9V (even battery!)!!! Yeah, discontinued... But definetily worth getting it used!
I love ring mod on bass I used to use an octave up bit swapped it out for the Dwarfcraft Hax 2 and it sounds so much more unique and cool. I recommend checking that one out Frequency below 11 o'clock does tremolo sounds goes insanely high, envelope control over the pitch, filter mode and a square or sin wave ring mod
This awesome! I also love to rip Nerve :D I try to achieve these sounds but use different pedals (one has to work with what is available). I have Red Panda bitmap which is a ring modulator and a bit crusher.
Hey Janek loving this series! Would you be interested in going over some ideas when playing synth bass, specially staccato runs? I know they are kind of atonal but still there is a distinctive feel to them
How do you use your Moog CP-251 with the MF-101 and MF-102? I remember that you bought that one by accident since the model number is very similar to the fancy foot controller (MP-201 ? ). The CP-251 is a big part of what got me interested in modular synths. I really love it and wish they hadn’t gone up in price recently.
Fun to see that no one is using the MF-102 like I do. I run vocals through it and stereo delay after and I do this live wobbling the rate and frequency.
What do you recommend if I don't have the bread for these pedals? Anything cheaper? Also can you explain what people mean by setting your pedals before and after?
Love this pedal specific channel, thanks Janek!! q: What is better for working with pedals, active or passive pickups? I think Juan from pedals and effects (still praying for him) prefers passive, just wondering what is your take on the situation.
I'm not sure they're that secret... and what I love about John is that he's constantly evolving his sounds and his pedal board. We were talking just yesterday about the next step for him, and I think you'll be pretty stoked to see what he has coming up for sounds.
O yea ring pedals.. Janek, do check Fairfield Circuitry Randy's Revenge, I've used Moog for years, but it was just too big until I found Fairfield circutry is just as good as Moog... If you have chance do check it out!
I wish I could tell you. I never got a chance to really check those mini pedals out, other than at NAMM which is the worst place on earth to check out anything, and now I believe the discontinued those as well...
@@janekgwizdala oh man. No way! Seriously always discontinue the best stuff. I swear the cheap tone lok Ibanez sb7 is one of my favorite pedals of all time and yeah... discontinued. I can attest to the mini moog delay. Really cool. Cheers!
Great little pedal, but quite different from the two I feature in this video. I will pick up an original soon, and shoot a video with the old and the new in it.
@@janekgwizdala I've only got the reissue aswell but I believe it has an edge with the bonus frequency knob to allow tunability. I think Juan & Nick may have covered some of that along with the Meatbox reissue and the guy from DOD. Some future requests: H9 deep dive and anything from Meris... And a long overdue reunion team up with Juan?! Keep the pedal gallery coming. Cheers and good health Janek.
@@erdenklich Yes, it's all about when/where the pedal was made. The older ones run on 12v, and the newer ones on 9v. So instead of changing a bunch of stuff on my board again (it's constantly in motion these days while I shoot and produce this show) I just opted to grab a Taiwanese version, and power it off a regular 9v. My moogerfooger was taking up the spot I normally set to 12v for my Japanese OC-2, because it needed a tip-positive adapter. So I reset that, and put the OC-2 in a daisy chain power spot.
Well that's all a matter of your definition of cheap... Have you checked out the F-Pedals Robotholic? $50 on reverb right now. Copilot FX Antenna is $79.99, and the Gonkulator is up there for $83. SO literally three pedals under $90, that to my ear, do a pretty good job for the price point.
The prices on Moogerfoogers is ROUGH! I knew they were steep when they were readily available but at this rate ill be dropping somewhere between £500 - £1000 on a ring mod and low pass filter 🤢🤢
Yeah, it's a tough lane to lean into with the prices the way they are these days. I'm super lucky I got mine so many years ago when they didn't break the bank so much
I do address that in the show... skip to 4:14 to see it. I mean, I recommend watching the whole thing of course... but if you're in a rush, I did mention the HX right there.
@@janekgwizdala I watched the whole show and heard the mention on HX Stomp, just looking forward to hearing how you use it and some of the sounds you're getting, hang in there and stay well!

I’m really enjoying this series.👍
Appreciate it. I'm having a blast making them!

Ring modulators are so underrated, they are one of the craziest pedals and lots of inspirations.
Причём здесь они?

Thanks for making a video showing how cool this pedal can be, best demo I’ve seen of this pedal yet, I have one on way I am excited :)
I bought Moog ring mod. after hearing "it only happens once". I never play without this pedal and the expression Pedal too. Thanks for Inspiration
Thanks for the kind words. It's a beast of a pedal, and I'm glad I spent that time recording with it in 2012.
