im not sure how anyone can say alive or just breathing is underrated. with songs like this,element of one, fixation on the darkness, rise inside. amazing album i think people just get mad because as daylight dies was a lot more comercial successful and the end of heartache is one of killswitch's biggest song. im not throwing shade, i love this album im just sayen

I like Howard Jones... don't get me wrong. But man Jesse Leech gives this band so much more. I loved Disarm the Descent. This album is still amazing for how old it is.
Jesse Leach is the much better screamer/growler, while Howard is the better clean vocalist.

Just seeing how Jesse puts absolutely everything within himself into his singing is an art by itself and says what kind of man he is. That guys vocals changed my life when I first heard Rise Inside many years ago.
Got this on a free CD that came with Metal Hammer magazine back in like 2002 maybe. Introduced me to the band - still my favourite Killswitch song to this day.

I saw KSE at the El n G in New London CT in like 2002, with Sworn Enemy(who's NYHC legends btw) and Kerry King was chilling in the bar watching KSE KILL IT! Only like 100 ppl @ the show but that may be the show that sprung KSE careers. Still have 2 Overcast tapes #CTHC #NEHC

The 2000 self titled on ferret and alive or just breathing are imo some of the best the genre has seen the only other thing I can think that comes close is early unearth "the oncoming storm"

This is Fucking Killswitch. The fans that have been there since the Start know what I am saying. The new album brings me back to these days. The last couple albums with Howard where not as good IMO. They have gotten back to there roots. More bands are going that way. Killswitch come back of 2016.

Found them two years after this album came out cause i half depended on my older cousin to show me new stuff until i discovered pure volume and then went into a rabbit hole of doing nothing but looking for new bands and their whole back story. 20 years later and this still sounds fresh. Jesse is the dude

I am happy that Jesse is taking Howard's place. Because the only person that can is Jesse. I started listening to KSE when they first came out. But that said I will miss Howard. Hopefully we can get another few songs like Irreversal, with Howard on there for old new times sake. But can't wait to hear the new stuff. And Jesse has to bring it on The End of Heartache.

Well, Howard was the face and voice of Killswitch Engage for ~10 years, that's why. I first got into them when The End Of Heartache came out. That album was awesome and then I found out that they had had a different singer before. Back then I didn't really like Jesse's voice, except for the cleans, they were awesome, but now, 10 years later, Jesse is back and as powerful as Howard was, with the original passion.
