This is the problem with fans in the metal "community" now. Bashing other genres just because they're not to their taste or some other underlying ridiculous reason. Music is music and the problem is elitists with their "that's not blahblahblah" mindset. Build a bridge and get over it already.

A banger with chills on the chorus... beautiful song.
I love that soft quiet beginning and then its hits like a ton of bricks. Its just an adrenaline rush of heavy metal, coupled with Jesse's calming clean vocals and his monstrous(in a good way) harsh vocals make this song an absolute masterpiece.

I have seen KSE live at least 20 times by now over 15 years. This song as remained my favorite song by them, including both Howard and Jesse's versions. I think this song sums up the band and their music as a whole.

not heard this in years. Think this came out my last year in high school, remember listening to it on a cd player with the headphone cable going up my sleeve listening to it in class.
I rember hearing this band for the first time in 2002! It was on a metal compilation cd that I found in a magazine!
The song was "Life to Lifeless" and it was just fuckin' awesome! I strugled a lot to buy their cd at that time (I live in Italy), but it was totally worth it! They really pushed metalcore out there!

To this VERY day 12yrs later, this song has such a hold on me. Quite literally minute I put this album on, it just sucked me in and from start to finish EVERY song was 🔥. Jesse has and always will be 1 my favorite singers/lyricist; the way hes able to combine/structure and deliver such POWER is truly amazing.
I LOVE their old sound. Jesse was such a fucking beast. & STILL is. Also, A LOT of love for Howard. Killswitch Engage will always be my favorite band.
I remember the first time I started listening to KSE when end of heartache came out, then my mate told me I should listen the old singer and showed me this song and after that I couldn't stop listening to this album.. Howard did good things for this band but I've always preferred Jesse.

End of heartache was good album cus it was already made complete except for when darkness falls.
Howard is talented but did not fit this sound with his lyrics and is a poor writer in my opinion.
I prefered jesse raw vocals in his prime.
The albums post end of heartache were getting worse and worse and more generic.
Why they would self title their worst album is still a mystery to me.

I first heard this in 05 and i was depressed AF. It blew me away hecaue thenfirst time I heard Killswitch was in 03 "Fixation of the darkness" and thats all i knew. I woke from a drunken stuper when i heard it. Im almost 48 now .These dudes have some songs that really spoke of my life man its crazy.
The year was 2002 when this song released…. Minds were blown away, melted, twisted, and lifted… I was hooked since

He actually was the original lead singer of Killswitch Engage before Howard took his spot (so that he could get enter a treatment center for his addiction). I would also recommend Alice In Chains and Pantera if you like Killswitch Engage. 😊

They are an awesome band and always will be, even with a new lead vocalist.
Yeah sure, Jesse cant sing the songs exactly like Howard but he can sing the songs with his own strong voice. The last song they played was Holy Diver - my favorite song ;)

Glad someone else noticed too. I think the spinning wheel thingy represents the girls life, and when he finally realized shes not gunna save herself and he cant save her (maybe from a drug habit and/or suicide or something) that's why he cried and stopped the wheel with his hand, as you can see the girl laying still in the background on the red couch. He finally let her go so he can move forward even though its probably the hardest thing he has ever done.
Reminds me of a chick I used to be close friends with back in middle school who got heavy into drugs in high school and passed away recently at only age 24 or 25. Shit hurts everyone around that person so much. I hadnt spoken with her in years.
Also this is the first time I've ever posted something personal on the internet. Something about this song just brings it out.
