  • The number of new HIV infections is declining worldwide, but in Russia the epidemic is getting worse. Those infected are stigmatized and often insufficiently treated. In a country where the Orthodox church calls for abstinence, many are scared to speak out about their diagnosis.

    Passing on old values to the current generation? I cannot imagine older generations are more tolerant to HIV+ individuals, or even better educated about the disease.
    Hats off to this young brave man and everyone else out there like him.

    Does anyone know the name of this city? I searched for “Severalsk” and “Северальск” in Cyrillic, but couldn’t find anything. Anyone know how it’s spelled? I’ve been to the Urals and was just curious.

    At this point I wouldn't doubt there are millions of Russians infected with HIV/AIDS. They need medicine, love , and education.

      No they are not. HIV is more occured in Russia mainly because various STDs are much more monitored in population than in other countries. For example each applicant for citizenship is examined on HIV, syfilis, gonorea and TBC. Ordinary people are examined too, especially in parts of Russia where is documented more frequent occurrence of some venerical or other infectious dissease, or community/family is mandatory tested if such case pop up. I was tested 2x on HIV in my life despite Im not in lgbt or any similar risc community, its was just part of regular health check. So that higher occurence of HIV in Russia is from big part given by much more systematic scanning of population for HIV. In rest of Europe, more than 90% of cases are found by personal test (person intentionally test him/herself), but if you not test yourself, nobody will test you, thats why its opticaly look like they have less HIV occurence in population, but in reality its just lack of systematic monitoring.

    The government should health educated and sensitise the communities with high prevalence of HIV /AIDS on how to stay free from HIV. People should greatly modify their lifestyles

    HIV is easy to dismiss, like those who get it must have done something wrong (drug addicts or people with poor sexual life styles). However even as a conservative gov, it's still more important to keep disease under control since it can spread.

  • @Earth098
    @Earth098 5 років тому +2

    Awareness and education is better than holding a sign to hug, because only the people who are already aware of the fact that HIV does not spread by a hug would hug him.

    It is so awful, that in Russia doctors tend not to propose you treatment if you have more than 500 cells... Only because of a systematic trend of an economy on patients or offering you really cheap schemes that cause a lot of side effects.

    Seks ludzi starszych jest tabu. Budzi zakłopotanie, czasem niechęć. Zgodnie ze stereotypem człowiek po 60. może co najwyżej opiekować się wnukami, spędzać czas w kościele albo w samotności odliczać dni do wypłaty emerytury.
