It was performed at the HOTEL CAFE, an apparently well known Club in LA, where Toby was a Guest of Honor, playing a set of 6-10 of his most well known songs. Angelina's participation was unannounced, but she stepped up on stage, where she sang IF I WERE A BOY, the 2nd to last song of Toby's set. BAD VALENTINE was the surprise Final Performance of the Night, an UNRELEASED ANGELINA JORDAN / TOBY GAD ORIGINAL song, to be released August/September. A number of cell phone recordings of the performance made their way onto YT, but the LIVE STREAM from the HOTEL CAFE of the performance (superior AUDIO and VIDEO) was kept from YT... in fact, Toby Gad had the Live Stream removed from YT on at least 2 occasions. Although Toby chose to debut the song, he still did not want it "out" to any great extent, other than cell phone footage, which he knew he could not control. I had a copy of the Live Stream of both songs, and I had published the first half - IF I WERE A BOY - after Toby had said that he didn't mind me doing so. But, I was holding on to BAD VALENTINE, because I HAD ASKED TOBY if I could publish it and he asked me Not to do so... so I didn't, but I did keep asking, because the cat was out of the bag and BAD VALENTINE was still getting around. Finally, after a number of Weeks, I asked Toby and he finally Allowed Me to Publish BAD VALENTINE, the high-quality Audio and Video version that we all enjoyed in your Reaction. Like you, I do believe this Performance of BAD VALENTINE is a Landmark Performance - it IS a true piece of ART. Jim

I knew you would be blown away by this. Yes, you can hear all those other singers in there, but she is Angelina Jordan, period. No one like her, no texture and phrasing and “fry+vibrato” and emotion and tone and fire like the incomparable Angelina Jordan! This is a monumental performance.

She is a living legend and she’s only getting started. She has worked very hard to get here and she has finally broken through to the stratosphere where she belongs. When she was eight years old I could already tell she was going to become a superstar. She had the desire and the talent at that age. And I predicted that one day she would be in that “Jazz Hall of Fame” with Sinatra and those who broke the mold of what singing could be. I felt it in my bones and have been following her path for 8 years now. And what a rude it has been. She got me through Covid and many other obstacles but the pleasure has been all mine. Angelina puts great thought into her opening lines. She wants to stun us with an amazing first few notes that come with no warm up, no build up. Think of Suspicious Minds, I Put a Spell on You, Bohemian Rhapsody, Diamond, so many others-and now Bad Valentine. That first line startles us and freezes us, and we’re hooked for the whole ride every time. (The rest of the song isn’t bad, either.) We told you she’s the best-and she’s the best across multiple genres.

No angels were actually at the show, I don't believe. However, a few angels (I know of myself, Bernie Scott, Douglas Switzer and Ken Gehl) were watching a livestream of this performance IN REAL TIME the night of May 16. The above recording was made from the taped livestream, which was available for only 24 hours after the performance.
Great reaction to an amazing performance! I am even more amazed at how unique the story in this song is. While I’m far, far from an expert on songs, I have never in my 69 years heard a “bad love” song sung from that perspective! It even take a rhyme we’ve all heard a thousand times since we were kids, “roses are red, violets are blue,“ and takes it in a whole different direction… pure genius!!!

Angelina opens with sass, reminds me of Diamond, Lovin You, and It’s A Man’s World! She just showcased the audience her vocal abilities effortlessly! The best story teller of this generation period! 🇳🇴🇺🇸 Toby gave a big clue when introducing the song-when he said this is your worst valentine-By the way she was a surprise at this event! Angelina stated in a recent interview in Norway that new material will be coming out in September and more concerts are upcoming! She also performed at a private event in Spain after her London performances!

We love her very much and we are proud to say that. But, I've always felt and I share my thoughts with other angels, that musicians go absolutely bonkers when they listen to her because they cannot believe what she is doing artistically. She's on the highway and has been for a while but she hasn't switched lanes into the express lanes yet. I think you're right. THIS IS IT. Welcome to the club ! I found Angekina after Norway got talent and I felt in love. I listen to her everyday ! Youn still miss many wonderful performances. When she starts singing she becomes "old and wise" then when stops she becomes again a shy18 year old !! You can see this in all her performances . I'd recommend I'd rather go blind, Natural woman, Love is a game, My funny Valentine and so on and on..... ALL ARE MIND BLOWING!!! No matter at what age ! Her voice is like no other ! I not think she needs to sing like any other.
Angelina doesn’t go into “beast mode” often. This song, I Put a Spell on You, and It’s a Man’s World, are the three that come to mind. Doesn’t happen often, but when it does, the world takes notice!

Really, an exceptional reaction and very appreciated. The instrumentation/production for "Bad Valentine" were just beautiful. There are so many 'supers' to this pre-release, a jazzy song and production that was meant for Angelina. Her voice, as usual, just amazing, her belting here was otherworldly! This bodes well for the year, for her fans, for anyone who loves good music.

At age 83 I didn't trust myself physically to handle the trip, north or west, being by myself, combining all that with simply being too emotionally invested in Angelina. It's downright scary, and impossible to explain to anyone not already caught up in her amazing aura. But anyway, no, I haven't been to either but still have hope.
This is a great follow up to If I Were A Boy (Piano Diaries) with Toby Gad. If these are examples of the music they are going to produce together then we are in for a real treat in September.

A fan once commented a thank you to Rob Christie, for mentoring Angelina. He commented that he felt it might be the other way around. She brings out the best in all the musicians she works with.
The studio versions are not always better than her live performances. She feeds on the audience and always has. And, she doesn't need orchestras to be successful.
It would be great if they could remix this live performance for the release. As it stands her voice is too far back and nearly covered by the instrumentation at times.
I don’t know. I’m only guessing. But I have a feeling that lyrically, this is almost all Angelina. I know it was co- written with Toby, but those lyrics have Angelina written all over them.
In this piece She sounds like a baritone sax done with a gravely growl (no quack) She can do anything I've ever heard any vocalist do, with the possible exception of Anita Baker. IIt amazes me now She blows that power with no obvious effort. If there is a god who gives the world gifts, she is one of them. There's just no other explanation for it.

Yes a magical voice easily recognizable and amazing sound, but you did not comment on how brilliant and complex these lyrics are. It takes many times listening to them to grasp the full meaning and twist to this song. As wonderful and amazing her voice is I think her lyric writing has not been given enough credit, it's brilliant.

This song is all about Authenticity, which is WHY it is Quintessential 'ANGELINA' - there is no Negativity here, just In-Your-FACE Truth. Angelina and her family Value Truth and Authenticity, and they often celebrate their "flaws and faults", putting out the craziest photos and videos that you would normally expect someone to not want the public to see. BAD VALENTINE is about a Person that doesn't have the heart to break up with someone, but instead uses the tried and true method of trying to get them to leave the relationship themselves by treating them badly, or in this case, treating them like a BAD VALENTINE would. But, it is a revolving door situation, because no matter how many signals the BAD VALENTINE tries to give, the FOOL takes each in stride, and so-on and so-forth the story goes. This song is not about a Bad Axx Chick, getting even with dudes, being super sassy; although that IS the delivery, the story underlying is quite different. 😇Jim

Angelina puts great thought into her opening lines. She wants to stun us with an amazing first few notes that come with no warm up, no build up. Think of Suspicious Minds, I Put a Spell on You, Bohemian Rhapsody, Diamond, so many others-and now Bad Valentine. That first line startles us and freezes us, and we’re hooked for the whole ride every time. (The rest of the song isn’t bad, either.)

No angels were actually at the show, I don't believe. However, a few angels (I know of myself, Bernie Scott, Douglas Switzer and Ken Gehl) were watching a livestream of this performance IN REAL TIME the night of May 16. The above recording was made from the taped livestream, which was available for only 24 hours after the performance.

While I’m far, far from an expert on songs, I have never in my 69 years heard a “bad love” song sung from that perspective! It even take a rhyme we’ve all heard a thousand times since we were kids, “roses are red, violets are blue,“ and takes it in a whole different direction… pure genius!!!

But, I've always felt and I share my thoughts with other angels, that musicians go absolutely bonkers when they listen to her because they cannot believe what she is doing artistically. She's on the highway and has been for a while but she hasn't switched lanes into the express lanes yet. I think you're right. THIS IS IT. The official turning point from being great to becoming a living legend at less than 20 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the club ! I found Angekina after Norway got talent and I felt in love. I listen to her everyday ! Youn still miss many wonderful performances. When she starts singing she becomes "old and wise" then when stops she becomes again a shy18 year old !! You can see this in all her performances . I'd recommend I'd rather go blind, Natural woman, Love is a game, My funny Valentine and so on and on..... ALL ARE MIND BLOWING!!! No matter at what age ! Her voice is like no other ! I not think she needs to sing like any other.
Angelina doesn’t go into “beast mode” often. This song, I Put a Spell on You, and It’s a Man’s World, are the three that come to mind. Doesn’t happen often, but when it does, the world takes notice!

Really, an exceptional reaction and very appreciated. The instrumentation/production for "Bad Valentine" were just beautiful. There are so many 'supers' to this pre-release, a jazzy song and production that was meant for Angelina. Her voice, as usual, just amazing, her belting here was otherworldly! This bodes well for the year, for her fans, for anyone who loves good music.
I cannot wait to hear the production - - I am almost nervous for it, as it has Big Shoes to fill after this performance.

At age 83 I didn't trust myself physically to handle the trip, north or west, being by myself, combining all that with simply being too emotionally invested in Angelina. It's downright scary, and impossible to explain to anyone not already caught up in her amazing aura. But anyway, no, I haven't been to either but still have hope.
This is a great follow up to If I Were A Boy (Piano Diaries) with Toby Gad. If these are examples of the music they are going to produce together then we are in for a real treat in September.

The studio versions are not always better than her live performances. She feeds on the audience and always has. And, she doesn't need orchestras to be successful.
It would be great if they could remix this live performance for the release. As it stands her voice is too far back and nearly covered by the instrumentation at times.

Yes a magical voice easily recognizable and amazing sound, but you did not comment on how brilliant and complex these lyrics are.
