  • Here I test new colors for Badger's awesome Stynylrez plastic primers. I test 8 different colors over 4 of the new primers. Results are positive. If you know of good color combos I should try let me know in the comments below.

    Wow. I have never heard of badger's colored primers before watching this video, will have to check out their line up of colors. Thank you for this info, and testing of different colored top coats. Very interesting.

    Have you done tests with other types of primers? like automotive primers, all purpose primers (from hardware stores) Rustoleum and other paint brand primers?
    I customize Transformers, i know they're different as far as the construction/build of a model, but the painting principles are about the same.
    I'm thinking of getting into airbrushing, and I have about 3/4 of a quart of a primer I bought, Bulls Eye 1-2-3 (a Rustoleum brand) that sticks great unthinned and applied with a brush, and it's a pretty thick primer, so i was wondering how much can it be thinned before it loses it's bonding properties if applied to with an airbrush

      You can probably thin it 50/50 no problem. I'm planning on a big primer test shoot out video at some point

    What the best way to strip a car that has been primed with this primer? Purple power takes the acrylic paint right off, but the primer I have to really scrub to get it off, to start over on a model car

    Thanks for the info. In one of the other comments you said you were thinning it 70:30. What are you using to thin it with?

    I like those.. :) Vallejos works too, I just let it dry/cure for longer (sometimes a wekk). But recently I have been using Mr Surface 1500.. I use both though as well as Alclads stuff for their shit.

    How would I spray stynylrez through an airbrush with a .35 needle? What thinning ratio and psi would be appropriate?

    Thanks for the video, very helpful. This is the first primer that I have tried, and it worked out pretty well on my first model. What are you using to clean your airbrush? I struggled getting all the primer cleaned up when I tried.

    • @barbatosrex9473

      Too high air pressure and the paint hits the surface dry. Too low and it spits out inconsistent. Just right and it looks wet and even

    I checked out all of the videos and searched for "primer" and was wondering if there was a primer comparison video by chance? Maybe I over looked it and couldn't find one? I didn't know if a video was put out comparing different air brushed primers versus say spray cans or something like that? Like many others, I'm getting back into modeling from when I was a kid. I don't know a whole lot about paints as in acrylics and lacquers and enamels. Not sure if you can use a acrylic primer then say a enamel paint over it or if you have to keep it within the same kind of paint? Back in the day I used whatever Testors paint I had in a can. Now days I watch videos such as these and am eager to try airbrushing paints instead of using brushes. Sorry for the rambling but if you have a comparison video on different primers could you or someone please post a link or a title that I could search? EDIT: Just read the comments and notice the responses.

      I'm working on a primer video test. It's going to take a while cause I'm buying most brands out there and I'll be doing both spray and airbrush types. I'm going to have to make it 2 parts as it would just take tooong for 1 video. Also I have trouble sometimes with enamels lifting off some primers so I started keeping enamels within their own family if you will.

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 роки тому +2

      After it fully dries you can spray just about anything over it. I'd test it with enamels as I always have a problem with enamel. With a large needle you can spray it out of the bottle, say a 0.4 or 0.5mm. Anything smaller just dilute it with an Acrylic thinner just a little bit. This stuff is great. I'll be filming another video on them soon

    • @barbatosrex9473

    So when you want to paint yellow... would you rather go with a red primer or the mustard?

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 роки тому +1

      It all depends on what your looking for. Over red the yellow appears to be a darker deeper yellow. Over the yellow it would appear more true to the actual yellow color itself.

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 роки тому +3

      Delution depends on the airbrush needle size. With a 04mm or 05mm you shouldn't need to thin it. That being said, I have been thinning them lately. Especially the new gloss black. I would go 70/30 paint to thinner. These primers are awesome. They dry perfectly every time

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 роки тому +3

      20 to 30 psi depending on your airbrush. A larger needle would need less psi where as the smaller would need a higher psi
