      Hey Drew, please ask Tommy to explain why he connected the camera to the vtx pad at 9:18. I know it will work on that PDB, but if any other beginner will try that on an FC with osd, he'll have to take the quad apart a second time....

    • @Andrew-FKF

      according to the osd, it took him 3 years to do it.. c'mon tommy....

    • @Temporal_Flux

      @@LotharKrupka That is where Eachine had the original camera connected to. I totally rewired my PDB but, it won't do any harm to connect the camera signal to the VTx pad on the PDB because it just a direct connection to the CAM pad on the PDB, where they have the video signal wire for the VTx connected to.
      Yeah, I know it is confusing how they wired the PDB but, it is Eachine we are talking about here. The power for the VTx also needs moved from VCC to a 12V pad, if you want to safely use 4S (there is a risk of voltage spikes from the ESCs damaging it if you don't).

    Thank you for this! One of my first quads was the wizard x220s. I would have loved to see this when I started. It always seemed like the us “budget” didn’t get much love, lol. The Wizard was great for people who just couldn’t fork out that much money, but still wanted to get into the hobby. Though is was a far reach compared to what you guys normally run, it gave a lot of us hope, lol. Thanks for this👍👍

    So I've been flying for a couple years and the wizard was my first quad and since that I've built all of my quads. I definitely made a ton of mods to this quad and I totally love everything you did in this video. As far as the really easy things go the only other thing I would suggest is ditch the side plates. This is the only frame I've seen that has side plates and I've never had a crash that destroyed anything on the inside without the side plates on. Plus this will give the quad more yaw authority. Oh and you mentioned it but I guess forgot to actually do it, but it's definitely a good idea to change that antenna to an omni for sure. It makes me so happy that you guys are making this series because it's exactly how I started out and by doing this you're helping the non-confident new comers be confident. Keep ripping guys you're awesome!

    If you guys want to shave off some cost, I bought mine during the sale at bang good a year ago and save like $45 buying the remote/receiver separate and just a ARF version of the 220 for $99. They can keep the junk 3s battery and charger. That way you can invest that extra cash in better props, antennas, batteries/charges whatever you choose, OR if you have some stuff already your golden.
    Great flying drone, thing screams on 4S def will enjoy it...only down side is its heavy as heck especially if you toss a go pro/action camera on it...but for the price cant beat it. Parts are cheap motors/ESCs

      @videogamepolak0 5 років тому

      @@TheMadmacs just depends if its on sale or not to save like I did or what you all need and how you want to go about the hobby. If you just want something to grab and go then buy the bundle... The battery/charger that comes with it is garbage, so if ur serious about getting into the hobby and want some resell value(incase u get out of the hobby assuming your new to it) you can buy a ISDT charger or something descent so you can actually recoup some funds. Then grab some descent batteries, for what you pay for the "wizard x220 battery" replacement you can buy a tattu or turnigy 3s same price or less.

I know its sort of weird but everyone claimed if u wanted to safely run 4S batteries on the wizard u had to rewire the PcB a bit cause off some claiming the ESC braking could fry some stuff as some stuff was wired to the BATTERY pads for power instead of a 12v stable pads for source of power. I think in terms of the VTX they were saying was the reason you needed to rewire it IDK i did that to mine and rewired it when i first got it(since i had to redo the camera as well( and i never had issues except when I crashed and lost a ESC....im running 3 old and 1 new ESC and its been fine so far.
      Mine was all jacked wired, some stuff that needed 5 volts was spliced into LED pads, and the Camera was like wired to the VTX pads and vice a versa...confusing as hell but i know it was messily wired like that stock from factory.

    I picked up the x220s with that same quick intrigued google search, and went with an ARF version, which benefitted me in the long run, but also forced me into soldering since it involved installing my own r-xsr receiver, and dissecting betaflight to figure out the ports for the receiver.. Not bad things though, i know the knowledge is all vital to excel in the hobby anyway and the control was buttery smooth and fast right away. Nonetheless the x220s has a much better camera and comes with a pagoda antenna, which i promptly lost after like a week. Despite progressing onto Roosters etc. I still keep my wizard to practice all the tricky stuff. Recently I've dropped the top plate about 20mm which makes it look really good. Replaced boards with a Racerstar f4s tattoo all in one board to really tidy and lighten it up. Moves so much better now, along with a runcam swift and a decent vtx it's a very capable little beast!

    Wow. I wasn't expecting this on Rotor Riot channel - Thanks for this video Tommy. At least I know that my almost 2 years old Wizard wasn't a waste of money - when I see you (almost in 2019) focusing on it and investing your time to try it out with respect to this quad. Sure it's not the best one, but for those who have not much time or areas to fly very often - this is the cheapest and still good enough solution to start with. Especially with Full HD camera on top which Wizard was made for. AND YES - stock VPS camera is just horrible - I can't believe I was flying with it whole spring of 2017 before replacing it few months later (too late) with a wider one, with osd and much brighter picture - which helped a lot. I simply couldn't see much with the old one - and it was very risky to fly in some areas. It took away a lot of confidence to do acro. I felt trapped inside the goggles, to tell the truth. I should have replaced it before the first flight - so my beginning and switching from simulators to real quads would be so much easier. That's why I'm glad you've pointed this out for new beginners now. A very important thing to avoid the disappointment of new guys in the hobby: Replacing the camera at the beginning.
    But old Wizard itself is still a nice one - Even though I've started with it, before moving to smaller quads (not so stable but safer at least) - I think that in spring of 2019 it's still gonna be a good quad to consider having fun with. Can fly surprisingly smooth in acro. Stabilized flight is not the best in this one (some micros fly better in horizon than Wizard does) - who flies horizon on 5 inch anyway. Can carry a lot of weight and fly fast enough even for medium freestyle pilots.
    Won't ever be like one of your machines but at least it's cheap to replace, great to start with and train for the very first year of FPV - or even for two, three years. Really, thanks for this video man.

    Great job tommy. I dont have a Wizard and never will. I rock skitzo's super NOVA frame. That stock camera was terrible." If you dont know how to solder, not gonna make it very far in this hobby" so true and made laugh hard 🤣

    I started on this model! love hate relationship, its a cheap entry quad but expensive to replace all the shit parts. 20A esc's are known to catch fire randomly. Best to buy similar parts from banggood but with cam, esc and vtx Upgrade.

    • @weused2bestoned
      @weused2bestoned 5 років тому

      not everyone wants to fully build their 1st quad though., Im all for an esc upgrade, but mine did last me best part of a year (after I replaced 1 esc from the box haha).
      The vtx is fine on my x220, beats the stock diatone gt2017 vtx by far and that's 500mw. Things I upgrades from the box was the camera and antenna, the rest held out well., still running the gutts over 2 years later and it's all good., throw a new vesion of beat on it with dynamic filtering and it's like a totally different quad. really well locked in., feels strange as it's the wizard after all haha

      @FreeDivingTreasure Especially when the ONLY THING THEY MODDED was something you can't even fuckin use if you get the quad as is.
      I mean he says "So we gonna fly it the way it was out of the box for 200$... lemme just put on my 750$ FPV goggles.

    I see people(many) have still or once owned the Eachine Wizard (to my surprise).
    I also noted that most agree ,for the eachine to fly correctly and safely,the esc’s,camera,vtx and props
    need to be changed out! The Quad cost around $200 the new parts will cost around $100. So,to be up and running you now have $300 invested in a cheap ass quad.
    $300 today, can get yourself a pretty nice Quad. Eachine is definitely not on that list!

    ooh great idea, this is so many peoples path into fpv, solid practical mods are what every noob is looking for. not sure what is the next mod i'd pick, think noob? uuhm.... props and antennae .. i doubt you guys know that the flysky i6 can be hacked to give telemetry without using FC, but its a bit daunting for a noob. the i6x does it by default with the x6b rx. you should probably do goggles and chargers/power supply next.

      My trash can seems to as well. It likes to flip and hold 90 degrees on the left or right at weird times.
      At least it’s not menacing the neighborhood while I’m at work and my son is home. He knows not to use it, so it’s obviously doing this on its own. Something is weird about that thing.

    Had a Wizard x220 for a little over a year and at this point it has been modded so much it's hardly a Wizard anymore :). Will never forget the feeling of flying this quad when 1) I changed the stock props to Dal Props and 2) moved to 4S. Also wrote a bunch of articles about all of my upgrades here if anyone is interested: blog.georgi-yanev.com/fpv/upgrading-your-wizard-part-2/ . Overall I'd say great starting quad for beginners.
