  • We pay thousands for equipment, flies, travel and then tie a crappy old clinch knot to an articulated fly. Nooo, stop the madness, take a few extra seconds and tie on the best streamer knot there is for fresh or salt water, the loop knot. It's simple, effective and bullet proof! You'll be happy you did... fish on!

    I have been looking for the best loop knot for me to do. This is the easiest of all the loop knots. Thanks!

      I'm so glad you like it, it's been a staple of mine for years. Works great, yet to fail!

    I think that the reason this worked out so well is 'cause you've got some serious skill.

      It takes some practice, but that's what you can do when you're sitting in front of the TV! Before you know it it'll become second nature. The trick is to adjust the size of the loop. And then pull the long end DOWN towards the fly, not up away from the fly.

    this is a must use knot when you are swinging flys for steelhead, that little fixed loop in front of the eye lends a more life-like flutter to the fly underwater.

    Looks like a non slip loop but you didn't go back through the first granny knot. Is this way better?

    Interesting knot. Easy tie two surgeon

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado  2 роки тому

      Yeah the double surgeons works, but that Hesse knot works incredibly well. Especially on dry fly leaders were you really can use a small tapered knot!

    Thanks for sharing. Is this the same as Left Kreh's Non-Slip Loop Knot?

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado  3 роки тому +1

      Nope… this is a simpler way to achieve the same result! Try it out, I think you’ll like it.

    Good video, good knot. For the record, though, that's an overhand knot, not a Granny knot. You get a granny knot when you screw up a square knot.
    But hey, the fish don't care!

    I went all in and did strenght tests on half blood knots of all my lines on diferent diameters of wire 1000 years ago, to know for sure, what was the strongest. One line ended up having 100% with twice throufg the eye, 4 turns and lock. Any tests on this one's strength?

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry no… all I can say is it’s never failed at the knot. I’ve had some strikes that have broken the loop but that’s 100% dependent on the strength of the line! Thanks for checking!

    • @CONEHEADDK
      @CONEHEADDK 2 роки тому +2

      @@TroutTornado I'd test them, just to know. (I use a bucket, hanging the hook in it handle, filling water, till it breaks. As acurate as can be - do it more than once of corse) When I "need" a loop, I still use a half blood knot, that I just tighten up as hard as I can, without closing the loop (I use my nails, but a tool with a slit for the line, to tighten around could be used) and that stays open for ever, unless it gets caught hard in a branch or something. I do always fish with 20 or more pds line though (50 pds salmon here) so maybe my way wouldn't work with thinner lines. You're welcome. Always nice with educational videos.

    I was today years old when I learned you can adjust the loop size like that. SMH...Knot diagrams are hot garbage, never again. Thanks for the helpful vid, good timing for me as I've recently become obsessed with mousing and a loop knot is practically a necessity to get that mouse swimming action jusssst right.
