I'm really glad you did this video! I once saw a video where someone tied this loop but did not say the name of the knot. For a long time I looked for the name until recently when I saw a video on tying the Homer Rhode loop knot. Neither of them, however, mentioned any of the tips you gave here Brian. Good job!
I just caught my personal record size fish on a fly rod today. A 10” long large mouth bass. Maybe someday I’ll have a use for this, but it seems pretty far off.
The Homer Rhodes Loop Knot allows you to make the loop small. It is hard to tie a perfection loop with a fly and keep a small loop. This is my main reason for using the Home Rhodes loop knot.
Thanks for tuning in - Stay tuned, lots of great stuff coming your way this week!
My favorite knot for tarpon w/ a bit tippet. 30# and below I just use a 3twist Kreh.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Brian, now if I could only remember all of the knots you've shown us. Keep the good stuff coming,
Pretty sure there is a playlist here where you can find them all in one place?
I will be using this improved loop knot from now on. Thanks for sharing this new to me knot.

Nice Howler mug. Heed the call.
Thanks for noticing. Brian is a big fan!
How well does this knot work on smaller diameter material? Would it work for 10-12LB line?
It does but not as strong as a Non-Slip Loop Knot.
Great video. Can this be used with wire for toothy critters?
Thanks for watching. Please send your questions over to Brian at the shop via e-mail or phone and he will be happy to help.

Would a perfection knot work just as good? I use 80lb flouro if the blues are finicky
A loop knot is best with the heavy stuff.
