A Fishing Knot: Tie Mono or Braid to Bite Tippet
Переглядів 2,9 тис.10 місяців тому
When you fish for pike, walleye, bluefish, musky, barracuda- any fish in fresh or salt with teeth... You need bite tippet, or steel leaders to keep from getting bitten off! I am not a fan of using big clunky leaders, and for more than 25 years I've been using the Hesse knot. The Food Baby is a simple UV resin fly that crushes trout, smallmouth, stripers and panfish! The reason is simple.. big fish eat small fish and the Food Baby imitates them perfectly. Knots that have the ends coming out of the ends are not cleaner, if they snag on algae, or weed. That is one of the super powers of the blood knot. Still interesting knot. I am going to tie the 2 in line, and then see which one breaks first. BKs, are great for the heavy stuff, but alternative for the light stuff would be cool.

    Was baffled at first on tying,but awesome pattern & simplistic tying,attaching the rear hook is similar to the Graboid Leech by Jonathan Farmer (OPST) & can if needed be replaced,my area we're only allowed 1 hook & can see it on a 27 mm shank with the rear trailer hook,tight lines 🤙

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado 2 місяці тому

      I understand your initial confusion with the tying process, but I'm glad you found the pattern and tying method to be awesome and simplistic in the end. I love the guys at OPST, it's cool that you noticed similarities to the Graboid Leech pattern, particularly in how the rear hook is attached. That's also why I reference Jerry French in the video, I think he was a disciple of OSPT as well. Your idea of using a 27 mm shank with a rear trailer hook sounds like a sweet modification that will work well! Tight lines to you as well, and I hope your adapted version of this pattern brings you success on the water.

      I really like it, overall I'd give it an 8 out of 10. Pro's holds all hook sizes from a 2/0 to a 20! Once you get it clamped down, hooks don't move, great rotation, smooth as silk! Con's you really need to crank down on the hook, and leverage the dial to make it hold (but once you do it's great). Also the jaws aren't 100% immune to damage from hooks... the jaws are ever so slightly damaged from me cranking down on the hooks.

    I started tying with steelhead flies and intruders. So much emphasis on supporting materials to give a large profile. I have a hard time having confidence in sparse streamers not just collapsing in the current. What is your take on that?

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado 3 місяці тому

      Think of water as an ingredient in the fly, with water, and sparse materials comes movement and life. Also with less materials comes translucency, so the fly does not look solid against the sky. Remember baitfish are camouflaged so they dont get eaten.

    After a long time and searching for materials in Europe, I came to the conclusion. I can't buy your GLO BUGS BLING in Europe. It would be ideal... Here I bought EGG YARN from Wapsi, which mixes well with your brush, but the colors were not yours. I bought the Egg Pattern material from McFLYFOAM and it combs through the brush absolutely badly. When you stretch it back, the whole thing twists and deforms. I still haven't figured out how to help myself quickly. You had to buy a lot of materials before you figured out what is perfect for your streamer...it sure looks like it's in the store...I know it too. well thank you Has anyone tried with arctic fox?

    Looks like a non slip loop but you didn't go back through the first granny knot. Is this way better?

      No need to spend $25 on something that you can make from leftover packaging. Love that thing and still use it today!

    I have been looking for the best loop knot for me to do. This is the easiest of all the loop knots. Thanks!

    Love this fly. Re. the lead wire, I had trouble folding it the way you do. Instead, I cut 2 inches of lead, fold it 4 times twist it like rope and then I can control it to stay underneath the hook. I have the feeling this would also work during a worm hatch. I have had great luck with your micro closure. Thanks

      That's a great idea! Yeah the micro clouser is one of my favorites too! Works well on striped bass, walleye, smallmouth, trout... really anything that swims!
