Although I'm not really a fan of this movie myself, one thing I do like is the actor they got to play the adult Michael, who I feel did a great job with the role. I love Malcom McDowell, but this was not his best work, even though I do feel he still tried to a degree. Outside of the actor that played Michael, I can't say that I found much else that was worthwhile. One thing I think would've made the film stronger if they really had to go with the child Michael talking would've been showing him as not too bad a kid, seeming mentally well enough, only to have it build up and slowly reveal him to have killed animals and eventually killing his sister as a final breaking point, becoming less talkative and social all the while. I would've made the point where he stops talking to be as soon as he goes to the sanitarium. I still feel that the humanizing of a hulking murderer is a bad idea for a character as iconic as Michael Myers for being known as inhuman, but were it a different film with a different character more suited to a humanizing story, the idea of said character slowly going from a seemingly normal kid to a cold, emotionally anguished, silent killer would've worked if handled properly in a feasible way.
Zombie had a good chance to kinda tap into the beginning chapters of the Novel of JCs Halloween 78. Maybe could of had a girl that liked Michael and was kind of friendly to him, but Michael was already shown to be an Introvert. On Halloween night, Michael witnessed the Bullies harassing the girl, Michael Defends the Girl and ultimately gets the Bully he kills he kills to chase him and Michael then kills him in the woods. Then as a plot twist, the 2 orderlies that rape that patient, that is revealed to be the same girl, she was institutionalized from traumatic experiences that left her suicidal/ Schizophrenic, but after Michael saves her again, just when you think he has some humanity he brutally attacks her and killing her, showing he is pure EVIL not meant to be reasoned with, just hunted and extinguished.
I'm new to this channel. I enjoyed this vid so much I subbed. If memory serves, wasn't the Myers house in John carpenter's Halloween the exact same building that was used in a nightmare on elm street?
Brain Stem Soup Yeah, I know. Duh! Such is why it's so awesome, (lol), to watch Decker's on-going rant over that "shot him six times" thing. It's inconsequential and yet, it's often promoted as the main proof of Michael being nigh-unkillable... Going on and on with variations of that silly, hmm, I dunno, "proto-meme"..." is fun, buuut, yes, technically, he did, (Loomis), "shot him six times" before it was five, then it WAS six and then it WAS seven times... As well as the following one being the eight time and another and again and again and... Seriously, the part about: "I/he shot him six times!" NEVER MADE SENSE!!! First movie ended with a Michael Myers being able to go full ninja, Batman-ing his way out after a deadly-ish fall... Loomis realize Mike is gone and *poof!* roll credit/theme score... The end's explicitly meant that Michael Myers, Mr. "Pure evil"..." Had left both his therapist and his intended victim alive for "reasons". He was fully capable of getting back inside and finishing the job, but he, walked, away. So yeah, all combined attempts to kill him turned out to be less of a lasting "handicap" than if you'd just been told you had food stuck in/on your teeth. Seriously! You would go to a mirror to make sure it's gone and then be right back, frustrated/embarrassed, but fine otherwise... Same with Mike in Halloween 2, with that couple of "neck stab" he got for "stabby-stab-stabbing" his "not-yet-sister" being only able to stun him a few seconds/minutes and the "being shot with bullets" problem having, (somehow), no lasting effect"..." So we're going to be fair and say he had an itch up his nose, ( from the smell of his own burned flesh). This was the REAL problem and the smoke made him loose his balance, just like in Halloween 2's climax, when two bullets straight through the eyeballs and into his brain got "something in his eyes"..." Bullets hitting his meat is only enough for good ol' Michael Myers to think: "Heck, sum'thin' just pinch me?! Nope, just the wind"..." We're basically left wondering why he, (Dr. Loomis), never once, (ONCE), thought "kneecaps!" or "legs" since nothing was KILLING the guy"..." I know it would just be another of: "Damn a prick! My one weakness!" *Tud!* And after "walking it off", good ol' Michael would teleport... But still, gotta love 'em slasher villains! Ps: I love the idea of Loomis as a recurring caracter, but if thinking about it realistically, clearly,in both original and remake, the concept is silly. A shrink-like civilian, whose made a best-selling book on how "Evil" is the guy, would be smart enough to refrain from using a six-shooter, or five-shooter, or even a "magazine-fed, semi or full-auto pistol" to try "stopping" a giant, blood-thirsty, maddened socio/psycho-path! He'd go straight for a kill and/or the legs, or do as Laurie in the remake and at least make sure to put one bullet in the guy's skull. Whether it'd work is another thing, but three shots then "wait for it" or all six/seven and walk slowly if you expect him to live is just illogical. It's a decent reboot/remake, of a classic, but Loomis, being shown, once again to think of himself as John Wayne just 'cause he's got a pop-gun he hadn't fired ONCE beforehand is really childish for a seemingly intelligent person. It's reminiscent of another classic in which a group of civilians thought of using actual flamethrowers. As if it could ever be "safe" to use fire in a confined, oxygen-rich, pressurized area and while completely surrounded by either plastic or metal. Actual, open flames in close-quarter, with limited mobility and oxygen-rich environment. Why, how and wuuut? Who'd be using some makeshift, homemade, oxygen-dependent flamethrowers to hunt down and kill a genuine "alien creature" with acid for blood? Alien is "fire inside a spaceship", Halloween is about a smart therapist, old and untrained, going against Michael's "pure evil" with a cap gun and the OG movie end with Mike surviving all wounds but walking away. Why, how and wuuut? Halloween(s) and Alien(s), Both are great, (at least for the first couples of installments), but let's be honest, weapon-vs-threat, good, realistic lore and smart caracter(s) being logical isn't their greatest aspect(s) of either franchises!
Absolutely fantastic revièw Decker I was laughing throughout with your brilliant humour, you are a genius at doing these reviews & also a brilliant writer.
Jason Voorhees had a stepdad named Elias in the comics. He and Michael have that in common. Both have a stepdad and no one knows where their biological fathers went.
@@kevinskywalker5539 In the Friday the 13th game, you can find audio tapes in different places. They’re all about Pamela talking to the police. In one, she confirms that Elias is not Jason’s father. She actually says that Jason might even be a rape baby. Look it up on UA-cam.
So, are they trying to say Michael was always a psychopath or it was his childhood that caused him to become a murderer? Because Michaels childhood, as we saw it, wasn’t that terrible, sure his father and sister were shit but his mother still liked him and tried to care for him. Moreover we didn’t see any evidence of beatings, complete neglect or any kind of worse abuse apart from name calling
The actor playing Michael actually watched originals films before going into this and took his part quite serious for a wrestler turned actor - snob snort -, so if there's anything from this Michael that works as horror monster and keeps the best of the original, he probably had to fight Rob Zombie for it to come off like that, so credit him for anything in this Michael that doesn't make him fully sympathetic and a social victim, and not Rob Zombie.
The only time the whole "humanizing the slasher" trope worked was with Jason Voorhees but that only worked caused they still managed to make the audience root against him not for him.
To be honest, I felt like the story when Michael was young was actually interesting, I liked that till he escaped the sanitarium, after that, it went full on rob zombie, like I get it, a slasher is suppose to be pure evil, but look at the TCM remake, Nightmare on elm street, we see their background, but not Michael so I really liked that part of the movie
The joke about asking for the gun SIX TIMES is all I need to subscribe. Watched this review on a whim, and ended up very much entertained. Great content, man!
This is the only one out of the remakes that I liked, the sequel.... no god no. Also when you think about it the originals did humanize him later but didn’t have that overshadow his whole character.
Grey World pretty much, until H20 retconned it, the movies tried to say that Michael was a good boy until the Curse of Thorn was placed on him which turned him into the killer we know. So it actually took away all accountability if it was a curse that was forcing him to kill his family. It has been a while since I saw other Halloween movies, but I do remember them at least hinting that Michael was a victim of abuse which might have been why Rob Zombie made it more obvious in his movie which was more about Michael than it was Laurie. It was like how it was hinted that Freddy Krueger was a child molester and the remake just made it blisteringly obvious that he was. So it always seem odd that people freak out at this one humanizing Michael when at one point they tried to take away any accountability from him via a curse.
So graphic murder is fine but showing rape isn't? Oh the hypocrisy. Fuck off MHArcadia, who keeps giving you internet access to post retarded comments? And I don't even like most of Zombies films. But I keep seeing this stupid logic across the internet. Grow a pair, it's fucking fiction.
One thing that bugged me was the shaky cam whenever Michael attacked, like Zombie was saying “Oooh look how strong and powerful he is, watch the camera shake, feel the impact!!” Lol so edgy
so she shoots herself in the head and doesnt even bother to raise her last remaining kid ? like what if she wasnt found for a long time that baby would have starved to death .. the more i see this movies the more i dislike it
Adding in Michael's backstory made this a pretty fun go-around but it is always nice to see imagine as an unkillable, soulless (no empathy needed) beast as well :)
I Think the best thing in the Movie is in the Uncut version if I’m correct. We See Michael Stalk Laurie or Stalking anyone for that matter, the Camera isn’t focused on Michael but rather the person he’s stalking. So you can faintly see Michael in the Background and is really Creepy
Am I the only one to consider this to be one of the best Halloween movies in the franchise? The original is the best of course, but this can make the argument to be second best with H20
No matter anyone's opinion on how good or bad these versions of Halloween are, nobody can deny how much better this Michael looks. These 2 versions of Michael actually looks terrifying while the other looked way less imposing.

@@codyburgett7962 Absolutely! The Original John Carpenter's Halloween is a classic. It's my favorite horror film of all time.

Fun Fact: John Carpenter told Rob Zombie to make his remake his own. And he did just that.
He made this AFTER saying that he hated when classic movies are remade

It's really strange that I imagine this scene as the wrestler Kain having Dr. Breen from Half-Life give him a pep talk.

Thanks for making this one i love the way you can put down and raise them up all in the same sentence. Please keep up the good work we miss you
Although I'm not really a fan of this movie myself, one thing I do like is the actor they got to play the adult Michael, who I feel did a great job with the role.
Did… did you just make the rape scene in this movie… work?
I… don’t know how to feel about that.
I'm new to this channel. I enjoyed this vid so much I subbed. If memory serves, wasn't the Myers house in John carpenter's Halloween the exact same building that was used in a nightmare on elm street?

Decker is awesome! And you gotta love that awesome hair! He needs to bang his head more LOL!
bilbo_t_ baggins no u rong
Didn't shoot him six times in this here version, did he now?
7*
One interesting thing was that the opening theme was God of Thunder by KISS. Which is ironic since Rob Zombie couldve used one of his songs.
Absolutely fantastic revièw Decker I was laughing throughout with your brilliant humour, you are a genius at doing these reviews & also a brilliant writer.

He's not Michael's dad, he's not even related, he's just Michael's mom's boyfriend that is jobless and needs a place to stay.
Jason Voorhees had a stepdad named Elias in the comics. He and Michael have that in common. Both have a stepdad and no one knows where their biological fathers went.

Fun fact Tyler Mane who played adult Michael Myers also played Sabertooth in the original X-Men film.(2000)
I’ve been waiting for forty years for this recipe
Same here, the second was a hot F#$king mess
I think the second one brought this one way down
Grey World pretty much, until H20 retconned it, the movies tried to say that Michael was a good boy until the Curse of Thorn was placed on him which turned him into the killer we know.
Morgan Young true
Am I the only one to notice the opening theme is God of Thunder by KISS?
What the hell is Zombie's fascination of rape scenes? ...And who keeps giving him money to make films?!
I think it's his own money
Fun fact believe it or not but rob zombies not a drinker even tho he seems like one

Universal studios
One thing that bugged me was the shaky cam whenever Michael attacked, like Zombie was saying “Oooh look how strong and powerful he is, watch the camera shake, feel the impact!!” Lol so edgy
I kinda liked this version it made Michael Meyers a sympathetic figure instead of pure evil. Both versions are good.
I think I found the new nostalgia critic, youre awesome dude!
so she shoots herself in the head and doesnt even bother to raise her last remaining kid ? like what if she wasnt found for a long time that baby would have starved to death .. the more i see this movies the more i dislike it
Adding in Michael's backstory made this a pretty fun go-around but it is always nice to see imagine as an unkillable, soulless (no empathy needed) beast as well :)
Can't tell if the summer special was taking a long time to finish or if Decker waited until it was close to the new Halloween movie
