Halloween is a sequel to Halloween, but not Halloween. As in the Halloween continuity, not the Halloween one. There's a lot of damn Halloween movies called Halloween... Either way, Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode to Haddonfield where we see absolutely nothing happened since the original movie. However, her plot sense tells her to spend 40 years preparing to take out Michael Myers!

When Laurie finally confronted Michael I thought a neat twist could have been to have Michael not know who she was. Just have him tilt his head when she called out his name. It's just my opinion but it would have been an interesting contrast with Laurie to spend 40 years obsessing over Michael, damaging her relationships all the while Michael didn't even care enough to bother remembering her.

To be honest, that was the impression I got from the movie anyway. Michael doesn't really react to Laurie in their first meeting in the movie and seemed content to just wander around and kill random people. It's only the doctor bringing him to Laurie's place that brings the climax with them together and I just got the impression that Michael honestly didn't care who Laurie was.

Gerardo Munoz Yeahhhhh, the movie didn’t really capitalize on the overpushed fact of them not being related anymore. They made a big enough hullabaloo to break the sibling connection, but it really amounts to jack.

If I ain't mistaken, I actually think Michael kept thinking about her. Think about it. Michael is pretty much just a predator who seeks to kill... and nothing else. He has no empathy, no regret for his actions, nothing. All he wants... is to kill. Once he sets his eyes on a target, he'll go for that person because it's pretty much his prey. And on the wiki I spotted the fact that Michael has a rare condition called ''congenital insensitivity''. He doesn't feel pain whatsoever. Combine that with the fact that he's a sociopath and there we go. You got a monster who doesn't feel regret, empathy and especially no pain (shot in the shoulder by a revolver, hit by a car, fingers blown off by a shotgun, shot in the face, tumbled down stairs... he just gets back again as if it was nothing) AND who has pretty much a hunter/predator mentality. He doesn't go as far as killing small children (as seen in that scene with the baby crib) because they pose no challenge or threat to him whatsoever.
As for Laurie... she was the one who actually escaped him years ago. So she basically became his best prey. His most precious target. That's why I think Michael won't stop hunting her until either she gets killed or he gets killed himself.

The bottom line detail that people seem to miss is the firdt halloween film had a tag line of "Fate". It is fate that brings them together. They are a ying yang relationship. He did for get her, until that climax she showed him who she was. Its fate that brought them back. The idea of pure evil against a simple frightend and stained individual.

Its because carpenter regretted making michael and laurie siblings, that they decided to remove that. Because making them siblings, took away the scariness of Mikey, because he got motives in stead of being pure evil. And i say it like this: He isnt going after laurie in this one, he just goes to where the road leads him, which is, kinda creepy

Decker talks about the reference to the original when Laurie is stalking her granddaughter at school like Michael did to her in the original. But as he said this we hear the teacher in the background say "His method is TOTALLY helpful." That voice is PJ Soles who was also in the original. And who also says the word (Totally) what seems like every other word in her dialogue!! So there's another reference within a reference. Sorry just had to get that out there.

Yep. The only things I didn't like was that Cameron, Ray, Oscar and the 2 comedy cops were completely pointless characters, Judy Greer's bad delivery when Karen's telling Allyson about her childhood, some bad comedy like the "peanut butter on my penis" bit and the cops talking about their sandwiches and the whole Halloween dance subplot wasn't needed and was just there so Allyson would lose her phone so Laurie wouldn't be able to tell her Michael was on the loose. Apart from that the rest was great.

But the way they portrayed Michael is just fucking badass. I'm in total, fucking love with how brutal they portrayed him. Also that gas station scene with him throwing the teeth at her was one of the coolest things I ever saw in a horror movie. I don't know what it is exactly, but I love it.

I guess it's because calling it something else, or calling it 'Halloween 2', will make people think that it is a sequel to another movie, and people might not want to go through the efforts of watching the previous sequels to make sense of this one. Calling it simply 'Halloween' draws more people to it, especially those who've never seen a Halloween movie before, and it gives the illusion of it being a reboot or a remake, which it is not. It's nothing more than a marketing strategy. The filmmakers of The Thing (2011) did the same thing by calling it the same name as JC's The Thing (1981), even though it's a prequel to that movie. It's a marketing thing, I guess.

The mask was perfect, Michael was intimidating again, I love that they had the balls to kill a kid, the soundtrack was amazing, and there was some great scenes but overall I didn't like this movie.
All the male characters were written to be stupid and/or douchebags, Judy's acting wasn't believable for most of the movie (especially when she was telling us about her "horrible" childhood), all the references to the original movie became tiring, the ending was underwhelming, and the post credit tease was annoying.
Great review as always Decker, though there's no escaping from the Curse Of Cock lmao.

    • @TheDeinonychus
      @TheDeinonychus 5 років тому +14

Yeah, unfortunately this movie had to tow the 'wahmen good, men bad' line most hollywood movies have been shoving out lately. Which is unfortunate, because it's the bad writing that really keeps this movie from becoming as good (or possibly even better) than the original. It doesn't really matter how good the rest of the movie is, little things like that that make the audience stop and go 'huh? Why?' ruins suspension of disbelief, which is very much needed in any movie like this.

And don't forget making the men as feminine as possible. Of course the kid takes a dance class, of course the daughters boyfriend dressed like Bonnie instead of Clyde, of course the husband is useless.

You know i just realized that just now.. That this is just another sjw movie even if it does have some entertainment and some scenes i loved but you are right every single male is not a man there is no masculinity here there is not a single true man in this film at all. Where you see the all mighty women in the end of the film victorious and not a single man left alive at the end....Sigh this is why i can not in good faith watch any current film being made today not even alita which i was a big fan of the original manga series they just made it about waman politics.

The thing I hated most about them wiping away Halloween II was by taking that away it makes Laurie's idea that Michael would hunt her down ridiculous. They could have easily removed the Michael/Laurie sibling thing without taking that movie away. It was pointed out by someone else, that Michael in this new series never searches out Laurie more than he just happens across her.

People complain about jump scares but if you know and follow horror films suspense, shock, surprise all those things that make up jump scares are literally the backbone of horror films. That especially the climatic and eerie scores that builds up during the suspenseful parts of the movies and the kill scenes.

6:46 I beg to disagree. The elimination of the brother/sister thing, to me, makes Michael’s motives more unclear, making him seem more unpredictable and menacing. In the original series after 2, we all knew he was after his own blood and anyone who got in his way, making him seem less of a threat to everyday people who aren’t related to him.

Even though I love the franchise, I was sadly disappointed with this film. A few things: the teenagers' scenes were a bit cringey. I don't understand why they didn't use "Jamie Lloyd" (I felt that Karen was too weak a character). And didn't "Laurie" also have a son? (Josh Hartnett, H20?) - - I speak only for myself here, and hope that I didn't offend anyone with my opinion.

Seeing this movie in theaters was the most fun I’ve had in terms of a movie-going experience in a long time. It was small, maybe ten of us, but damn everyone was having a good time. Every time that amazing synthesized soundtrack kicked in everyone was bouncing their heads and “dancing”. Some people were vocal (during the right moments) and funny as hell too. Despite all of us being strangers we all clearly had love for the Halloween franchise and were all enjoying seeing Michael on the big screen (cause for a lot of us we didn’t get to do that with the original, it’s always been through our TV’s). Definitely a movie that I’m fond of based on experience alone.
