The pronunciation of Ariya by Nissan Germany is surely deliberate.

Thanks for the video. Comparing a modern EV to an older model is comparing apples with oranges. We need to compare the new car with other new cars, each in the same price and size classes. In our EU market, the Ariya sells for more than a Tesla Model Y. I simply have not seen an Ariya on the open road here so far, despite the market for new cars now over 20% of all registrations being EV. It seems the consumers have decided so far.

Nothing wrong with comparison between old and new model. If people has Leaf it's just useful to know is the newest model worth upgrading to it, what's different, are bad decisions, like no cooling fixed. Or let's call them Nissan fanboys, who's next car will be Nissan needs your offered comparison to Y.

Chris, a great review with lots of details. I like this Ariya a lot now that you've demonstrated so much of the car. It's comfortable, quiet, nice interior materials such as the wood trim. To be honest, I prefer the Ariya over the Model Y, which isn't particularly comfortable (too harsh suspension), steering character isn't all that great, and the interior is, well, somewhat bland with a tablet only design. Yep, you can park the Nissan in front my house. ;)

Test drove one last week, it's a gorgeous car to be in, and drives very nicely. The driving position is great, and the car handles well. Less good is the price, and unfortunately the efficiency isn't a high as the (much less premium feeling) Hyundai Kona or even Kia Niro EV, and I found that quite disappointing.
There's a lot to like about the Ariya, but for me personally, the efficiency and price rule it off my short list.
Thanks for this very detailed video, great stuff!

Good headlight test, what battery chemistry are the batteries?

  • @spsmith45

Thanks. I test drove two different battery versions on UK roads (in Leeds). I liked the stylish interior, though I thought the dashboard screens were too low-res. The suspension was firm and choppy on bumpy UK urban streets. I actually found the Tesla Model Y smoother! We don’t see many Ariyas in the UK. Not sure why. It’s good. Availability? We see more Hyundai, Volkswagen group, Kia and, of course, Teslas.

Chris, now you have driven all of them. How does it compare to the KIA EV6, the Hyundai Ionic 5 & VW ID 4/5, overall for price and specification? Imagine you wanted to buy one of these, which would you choose?

@@kajko6868 most of the time I use car in town so around 50-100 km per day. So it would be mooore than enough to use battery from 80% or 90% and it should help for battery longevity since I would like to slow down battery degradation as much in my power :). It cost fortune to replace battery so as long I drive in town it is plenty range of 80%

I have leaf and I will be glad to switch, but its hardly comparable cars. At this moment in UK for price of used Ariya I can get 2 used Leaf`s, so price for Ariya is double Leaf price.
Sad that same old Nav in Ariya... its so rubbish, planning route in that way that either you end up driving in circles or at least make 20-30% longer journey than with Google maps.
But overall Ariya is my dream car, yeah...

Of course, a 2009 design V 2021? ! I like this SUV a lot though. However it is a lot bigger than a leaf and has a lot higher price and then its well why not buy a Model Y. The last I heard there will be a gen3 Xover Leaf but 2025? or 2026? so late to the party with lots of Chinese BEVs in play.
