She was MASSIVE in the 80's. I'm a old school Metalhead and I loved what she did . She marched to her own drummer and didn't give a damn what anyone else thought . She is a true rock & roll Goddess.
She was so big that my dad still hates this song for how overplayed it was. I wasn't there to experience the song at its peak but I can at least say that I like it now
If you watch the official music video, you'll see that it was the epitome and encapsulation of '80s women's fashion-- at least for girls who wanted to have fun, that is.
She was vocalist of the year, and an essential part of bringing professional wrestling into the mainstream, and helping kick of the very first Wrestlemania. Time After Time is my personal favorite of hers. Thanks for doing this one. Love it
Loved Cyndi Lauper's quirky style & she is a really good singer songwriter. She has had a lot of hits especially in the 80's such as "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "Time After Time", "She Bop", "All Through The Night", "True Colors", "Change Of Heart", "I Drove All Night" etc.
She was definitely big in the 80s, and this song was a smash, of course. But I still think she has grown in stature over time, as people have come to realise that some of her songs are timeless classics that have long outlived the 80s. She is some kind of musical genius, in my opinion, she just might not have been too preoccupied with with being a superstar. As someone else said here: She always marched to her own drum.
This song was enormous. Cyndi was the first female artist to have 4 top 10 Hot 100 singles off a single album. This was the first of 5 top 40 songs from this album.
I really like her soft side: "True Colors", "Time After Time", "I Drove All Night", "Sally's Pigeons", as well as your suggestion of "All Through the Night".
Cyndi Lauper had 4 top 5 hits from her first solo album. "Girl's Just Want to Have Fun", 'She Bop", "Time After Time", and "All Through the Night" were the 4 songs from her first album. The album was called "She's so Unusual". I know all of this because of my daughter back in the 80's and early 90's.
This sing exploded as soon as it hit the MTV airwaves. It was everywhere !! Even older women were singing it at work as I remember. In the bars and nightclubs big screens had just been installed to play the videos of the lastest hits. Which made it even crazier. Between Cyndi and Madonna those were the days. And man were they fun !! Let's not forget about Toni Basil and her monster hit, MICKEY. Video please. I want to see the look on Asia's face.
In the 80s, my then-husband, in a rage about my going to a bar with a co-worker, yelled "girls only go to bars to be picked up"! SMH...My response to him " Men go to bars only to pick up those girls, so why do you go to bars?!" Yes, Asia & BJ, girls just wanna have fun, just wanna have fun; at the end of a workday, just enjoy your friends, some jukebox music and have a drink! PS: During the late 70s and early 80s, in Connecticut, women were not welcome at the bar and only tolerated at a table in the bar venue ... SMH
Cyndy reach 4 octaves, That's a huge range. Her style was so unique beggining with her outfits and hair cut. She is still fantastic. And this song really was a super hit. You can hear this song in movies.
Check out her appearance on the Johnny Carson Show. Maybe on Asia's reaction channel ? She is funny, quirky, and a much better musician than people give her credit for. 🥰❤
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was a SMASH debut hit for Cyndi Lauper. The song reached #2 on The Billboard hot 100 chart and the video has surpassed 1 Billion views on UA-cam. Cyndi is a LEGEND with an amazing voice. Her song, TRUE COLORS really showcases her Iconic voice. Would love to see your reaction to my favorite Cyndi Lauper song.
Never reached #1 on the Billboard top 100 but sat at #2 all through the 80's and was the peoples choice #1 song. I remember this song and man 🙄 it was on every radio station and played 20 times a day but never got old. people loved it
This single was HUGE!!!! Totally different sound than we were used to. MTV rocked it with her music video of this song. And yes! Girls just really do want to have fun 💃💃💃
Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper Thornton (born June 22, 1953)[1] is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and activist.[2] Her career has spanned over 40 years.[3] Her album She's So Unusual (1983) was the first debut album by a female artist to achieve four top-five hits on the Billboard Hot 100-"Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "Time After Time", "She Bop", and "All Through the Night"-and earned Lauper the Best New Artist award at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards in 1985. Her success continued with the soundtrack for the motion picture The Goonies and her second record True Colors (1986). This album included the number one single "True Colors" and "Change of Heart", which peaked at number three. In 1989, she had a hit with "I Drove All Night".
Asia just wants to have fun! "Money Changes Everything" the concert version is really good. She also did a song for The Goonies movie soundtrack (Good Enough For Me).
The super subtle plucked, guitar-over-bass in this just ties it all together perfectly. And her voice has such a girlish cherub sound. All the great singers have some quirk to them that makes them unique. In others it might be a flaw. But some people turn 'flaws' into talent and stardom.
Cyndi is awesome, this song was number 1 in the Uk where i'm from, you guys should react to "True Colors " or " i drove all night" fantastic songs & the fact that Cyndi is in her 60's now , i gotta say her vocals to this day are phenomenal, i was blown away hearing her live , one of very few singers who has not lost her power in all these decades.
I love Cyndi Lauper...so versatile and eccentric with apparently a 4 octave falsetto voice..BJ you are right, her tone and pitch are so unique...and Asia you are right using the word quirky. It's a great 80's video and her performance in the video is like her voice you not going to keep her confined to one room of the house. she is certainly a free spirit. Have a good day both
You should have reacted to the official music video for this song in order to appreciate her fashion style and her sense of humor. At an earlier point in her life she lost her voice but somehow she got it back. For me the Queens of pop music in the 80s were Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and Janet Jackson. Cyndi and Madonna were compared a lot in the early to mid 80s because of their sound and fashion styles. This created unnecessary competition and unfair treatment of their music and their intelligence. Cyndi had her song True Colors released around the same time as Madonna's True Blue single. Madonna's song Open Your Heart was originally intended for Cyndi and Open Your Heart was released around the same time as Cyndi's Change Of Heart was released. React to her songs Time After Time, All Through The Night, Goonies Are Good Enough, She Bop, Money Changes Everything, True Colors, Change Of Heart and I Drove All Night please.
She was huge in the 80s. We wanted to dress like her and be like her! I was in 8th grade when this came out - perfect timing. We wanted to have fun! Especially the lines about her Daddy because they weren't good at watching us not need them ask the time, especially as were becoming boy crazy! I always loved her strong Brooklyn accent that she even had when she sung! She's an icon!
i just realized i love this because of the phrase she says 'when the working day is done'...it's a pro-proletarian song...Work and Love..that's what girls want as humans
She’s great! You saw her in the “USA For Africa” video. Please do some more of Linda Ronstadt. Her live performances are legendary. Here’s a link to “You’re No Good” live ua-cam.com/video/BoitbfaVjH0/v-deo.html I love you guys. 🌺✌️
I saw Cindi Lauper open for Cher on her last tour around the year 2000 or so. I went to see Cher, but was surprised when Cindi opened for her and I loved the Cindi Lauper opener set better than the Cher concert. She is a great singer and performer on stage.
This song was released in 1983 when Cyndi was 30. I believe it was her first big hit, and it was soon followed by a lot more. Look up the UA-cam video of her appearance to promote this song on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. She was hilarious with a total WTF attitude.
I remember going to the club and this song would come on and the dance floor would be full with every lady in the club dancing. Would be lucky if one or two guys could even get close to the dance floor.
Love this song. But it’s her later music that you can see her true talent. But I love her style and confidence throughout her entire life. ❤️🔥❤️oh I had the first comment lol. Her acoustic version of this song is gorgeous, very different from the original song
I graduated HS in 1983. I blasted this while cruising Cooper in Arlington, Tx. Back before the cops got involved. Tons of friends, just cruising up to 30 and back down to Park Row...all evening. It was a blast back then. Don't start me on the story of getting a keg of beer in the trunk of my best friends Chevelle and running the tap up front. What a night. By the end of the night, we had so many cars following us for fill ups lol. Good times.
Of course everyone knows this track as it was MASSIVE but having never really followed her like that I didn’t truly realize how good a voice she had until I heard her sing “At Last” on the the TV show “Bones”. Unbelievable and definitely worth a reaction.
Y'all do a lot of songs from an era in which the accompanying videos were part of the experience. If the was an 80s music video Hall of Fame, this would be in it. Iconic for its time.
Oh man I started laughing my ass off when I seen you putting on that lotion Asia, it brought back the Bill Burr video of “some people don’t know about lotion”, and I am one of them, ha ha!
First Female video from the '80s to get over 1 billion views on UA-cam....EMMY, GRAMMY and TONY award winner....soo freakin talented and underrated.....check out The Ballad of Cleo and Joe (she's 9 months pregnant and used her belly as a Disco ball in her video....!!!
Hi Guys , she was so special. To see how big she was on the USA for Haiti video ( a make over USA for Africa but with more current artist ) her part is performed for no other than Celine Dion !!
I was 8 years old when this came out. (Cyndi was 30! She's the same age as my mother!) I remember the absolutely huge impact she made. The album this came from was called She's So Unusual, and she most definitely lives up to that, to this day. I've adored her most of my life.
Yeah yall i was growin up to this. Like 6-7 years. And to listen now at 46 i never knew how talented she was. She's amazing. Watch some of her live shit like after she's over 50 she's still the same way. She spot on yall
Did not realize how good her voice actually was until I saw her cover of At Last, check out the cover where she is wearing a black dress with long black gloves. She has some serious pipes! I always enjoy reactions from you two, TY.
This was a big hit in the 80s. Also, the movie with Sarah Jessica Parker "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" came out, and this was the theme song. I really liked that movie.
Oh you def have to watch the music video! This was so popular in the 80s...was def a song that united girls! She has a beautiful voice & is also a great person! The video is so 80s and so much fun. 💜💕💜💕
If you see the video to this song- quirky is a good description for her style of clothing and her overall look but one thing is clear, she can sing. Check out time after time and true colors that shows her range
She was MASSIVE in the 80's. I'm a old school Metalhead and I loved what she did . She marched to her own drummer and didn't give a damn what anyone else thought . She is a true rock & roll Goddess.
She was so big that my dad still hates this song for how overplayed it was. I wasn't there to experience the song at its peak but I can at least say that I like it now
Yeah it's a national anthem for a generation of girls. I'd say it was pretty huge.
She was great. Time after time ❤best song.
If you watch the official music video, you'll see that it was the epitome and encapsulation of '80s women's fashion-- at least for girls who wanted to have fun, that is.
Yep, I remember Nancy Reagan loved to dress that way.
You spot on mate
Captain Lou Albano
This song was A MONSTER when it was released. You couldn’t escape it.
She did a good cover version of it.
Time after Time another timeless classic by Cindy.
A very popular and fun song by Cyndi. Also check out True Colors, a much deeper song.
"Time After Time"
@@Braveheart0484 They've done it already.
@@metalmark1214 They did..oops. I will have to find it.
It's also a cover song.
She really has an amazing voice...try her Twelve deadly Cyns album. The song I'm Gonna be Strong showcases her incredible range...holy mackrel!
That song , she bop ; isn't about self pleasure ?
Love "Change of Heart"
The official video makes it so much more fun too. Watch it for yourselves. Love your channel! ❤
Never duplicated, unique talent and performer 💞

I love watching your reaction videos.
Asia, you have one of the prettiest smiles I've ever seen.
This song is pretty straight forward. It's about the female variety of humans having a desire to experience joy.
Ironically it was written by a guy --Robert Hazard.
@tommasdelano2794 The original version, but Cyndi changed it around and it actually become a hit thanks to her! 💖
Cyndi Lauper "Time After Time" & "True Colors"
...Nuff Said.
ya know Cyndi's vocals are way underated the girl can sang when you let her lose!! This song and video was hot when it came in I believe '83!!
She certainly does a very unique voice, no other girls could sing like that!! Love her so much, great fun!! xx
This song was enormous. Cyndi was the first female artist to have 4 top 10 Hot 100 singles off a single album. This was the first of 5 top 40 songs from this album.
“All Through the Night” is my favorite song by her. I would rock my infant son to this song.
Also my favourite. An underrated classic that epitomises the 80s for me.
I really like her soft side: "True Colors", "Time After Time", "I Drove All Night", "Sally's Pigeons", as well as your suggestion of "All Through the Night".
That's my favorite by her, too.

Iconic song...huge hit for bachelorette parties and girls night out!!🎶💜🎵
And written and orginally recorded by a man. Robert Hazard in 1979.
Cyndy reach 4 octaves, That's a huge range. Her style was so unique beggining with her outfits and hair cut. She is still fantastic. And this song really was a super hit. You can hear this song in movies.
“ money changes everything” her best song and covered by many artists
Great 80s song. Amazing voice she has. 👌
Check out her appearance on the Johnny Carson Show. Maybe on Asia's reaction channel ? She is funny, quirky, and a much better musician than people give her credit for. 🥰❤
"Time After Time" is a classic, probably her best tune.
"She Bop" was so underrated! One of her best.
I remember being 5 or so & that being my favorite from her. 🤣
Cyndi was/is so good live. Fantastic singer who toured relentlessly in the 80s. Watch some of her live performances.
One of the early MTV music videos, iconic!

Cyndi definitely has a unique, cartoonish voice. The song captures the sound of the 80’s. Kind of like an 80’s anthem. It was very good.

I remember this like yesterday! I would turn it up loud enough for my parents to hear ! Lol
This was a big hit here in Australia, a truly catchy song that you can play over and over again. Love it
I was an 80’s girl. This was played a lot at slumber parties lol
Be a Model DJ in the Nineties....used it at every wedding to call women up for the Garter Toss. This is what this song means to me.
She was huge in the 80s. We wanted to dress like her and be like her! I was in 8th grade when this came out - perfect timing. We wanted to have fun! It's a pity you didn't see this video when you see her dancing with the song, you'd LOVE it! xx
I had Cyndi Lauper posters all over my bedroom walls in the 80s. She was different and didn't apologise for it. This song was absolutely huge

Time after time is my favorite. Everyone knew this song. I was a teenager when this came out.
You also need to check out "Time after Time"
They have done that one already.
This was one of Cyndi's biggest hits in a one of a kind career
Asia's smile 😍😍😍
Y'all do a lot of songs from an era in which the accompanying videos were part of the experience. If the was an 80s music video Hall of Fame, this would be in it. Iconic for its time.
Y'all making me WANT MY MTV!!!
I remember playing an acoustic version of this in a club and everyone being like whaaaa? Haha
She’s classic 💛
i remember this songs seen on mtv and heard on the radio all the time cyndi lauper blew my mind and took off never looked shes is a legend .
Oh man I started laughing my ass off when I seen you putting on that lotion Asia, it brought back the Bill Burr video of “some people don’t know about lotion”, and I am one of them, ha ha!
Classic.Love that she always did her own thing.
It was pretty big 😘
First Female video from the '80s to get over 1 billion views on UA-cam....EMMY, GRAMMY and TONY award winner....soo freakin talented and underrated.....check out The Ballad of Cleo and Joe (she's 9 months pregnant and used her belly as a Disco ball in her video....!!!
Hi Guys , she was so special. To see how big she was on the USA for Haiti video ( a make over USA for Africa but with more current artist ) her part is performed for no other than Celine Dion !!
Awesome voice! She was in the We Are The World video! 💕🎼✌️🥰
I'm completely in shock that you're not talking about her huge vocal range and the soul in her voice!!?
Gotta watch the video !!!
I was 8 years old when this came out. (Cyndi was 30! She's the same age as my mother!) I remember the absolutely huge impact she made. The album this came from was called She's So Unusual, and she most definitely lives up to that, to this day. I've adored her most of my life.

You're right. HUGE!! Cindy lives on the Upper West side of Manhattan, and I see her around. Very cool lady.
Thanks for this -- but really - do the video version! so much fun!
Before her solo career, she fronted a rock band called Blue Angel. Not sure if any of their music is available, but probably worth looking into
All through the night is a great song by her
This was a big hit in the 80s. Also, the movie with Sarah Jessica Parker "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" came out, and this was the theme song. I really liked that movie.
Her ballads are fantastic.
You couldn’t go anywhere in ‘83-‘84 without hearing this song!!
She was custom built for the early MTV days. Her videos were must see at the time.
This song along with other songs by her was HUGE.
She blew it up back I. The 80's. Every girl started dressing like her. Saw her live with Tina Turner.
Listen to time after time by her. It is a really cool song!
Love you two and I'm 74! Cyndi still making fine records.
Song was 24/7 on MTV. HUGE
Oh you def have to watch the music video! This was so popular in the 80s...was def a song that united girls! She has a beautiful voice & is also a great person! The video is so 80s and so much fun. 💜💕💜💕
So much fun!🤗🤗
Have you seen her dancing barefoot on the Johnny Carson show? 🥰🥰🥰
It was so popular, a movie was made called Girls Just Want to Have Fun, but her version isn't in the soundtrack.
Another lesser known Cyndi Lauper hit is "She Bop", with a similar theme to the song "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors (both 80's hits.)
If you see the video to this song- quirky is a good description for her style of clothing and her overall look but one thing is clear, she can sing. Check out time after time and true colors that shows her range
Classic early 80's song she had a very unique style.
It was huge. It's a fun song with a fun message.
First time I heard this was on MTV many years ago and my only thought was "I think she's trying to tell us something." 😂
