80s was the start of the dance clubs when me and my gal pals would go out and party! Cyndi Lauper kind of had a Betty Boop voice, but man could she belt! This one was a fun one!
As a huge Hair band guy in the 80’s I despised this song and pretty much everything done by her. It wasn’t until later in life when I realized what a unique and beautiful voice this woman has. Not only that she is as genuine and as sweet a person as she portrays in her videos. I spent 23 years as a catering chef, I won’t name the company I worked for but I worked the Hollywood Bowl every summer, and had a chance to meet her. Now I’m a forever fanboy of hers.
I can relate. I never liked her, myself. Never met her personally, so.... but seeing Brad and Lex react to it was both entertaining and nostalgic. A blast from the past.
At least here in the UK, this was her first single, and she was a true force of nature, unlike anyone else we had ever seen. When music took itself far too seriously, and it really did in the early 80's, she came along and made everything fun.
Rest in Peace Catrine Lauper the mother of Cyndi Lauper who past away a few days ago. She starred in this music video as Cyndi's mother while also appearing in some other music videos as well.

She was one of the few, along with Michael Jackson, Billy Idol, Boy George, Motley Crue and Willie Nelson that David Lee Roth parodied in his 'Just a Gigolo' video. I'd say that somewhat shows her popularity as an 80's 'icon'.
Songs (and videos) like this really remind you how wonderful the 80s were. What may seem 'silly' by today's youth was pure magic back then. Cindy Lauper really has an incredible voice, and this video exploded on radio and MTV back in the day. A truly classic song and video. This was almost 40 years ago. Wow. I'm gonna play 'Time" by Pink Floyd now. I want my MTV back!
I saw Cyndi in concert when her "She's So Unusual" album was exploding. She held off doing this song until the end, then recruited girls from the audience to join her in a conga line and sing "They just wanna, they just wannnnaaaaaa". She led them on stage then up and down the aisles of the theater. Great way to end the show!
her dad in video was old famous wrestler Captain Lou Albano .. hes like from 70s 80 era of wrestling. I had my picture taken with him and the Iron Shiek in Atlanta Georgia at Dragon Con Event in 2007. or some where around then.
"Time After Time" is another classic song by Cyndi Lauper. One of the greatest love ballads. It really showcases her versatility & vocals especially when compared to this song. She's definitely underrated and was neck & shoulders above other pop singers of her era.
That's one that has definitely grown on me over the years. I probably thought it was okay back then, but wasn't into that style of song. I heard it used in a TV show in the past few years and it had more of an emotional impact. Now I really like the song.
Cyndi Lauper - truly is truly a great artist not to mention her voice is very high and can sing just about anything. She is that GREAT! She also worked with Cher and Cyndi also wrote some other beautiful songs too!
Cyndi Lauper is a living legend, one of my favorite artists, and one of the most inspiring for me, even being a little white guy trying to make funk music. The magic of her sound, her incredible vocal range, the positivity of the message, and the personal freedom she inspires, it's all musical perfection. She apparently had been working in a band for a long time trying to make it, more rock and roll stuff, and at one point she went to several doctors thinking she'd lost it forever, and then finally blew up as a solo artist. Love you guys reacting to her, awesome stuff.
Cyndi Lauper has such an incredibly powerful voice. You should see some of her live performances. Her voice will blow you away. In the 80s, Madonna was huge, but Cyndi ruled. And she is even credited with influencing a lot of modern women artists today.
Cyndi and Madonna broke out around the same time. Many wondered which one would have the bigger career. Madonna proved to be the one to go on to reinvent herself as times changed, making movies, and on to superstardom. Cyndi pretty much faded as a symbol of the 1980’s.
This song was a MONSTER! Cyndi is a legend for 10 different reasons! No one sounds like her and no one ever will. Her voice is like a pinball machine on speed and produces sounds that defy understanding. This could be one of the most perfect, exuberant pop songs of all time. In 200 years, this song will still be a hit and an anthem for girls around the world. The video to this song is a trip! "She Bop" "All Through the Night" I Drove All Night" "Like a Cat" "Money Changes Everything"
This was Cyndi Lauper's first single as a solo artist. She released an album in 1981 as a member of the group Blue Angel, but "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" made her famous. The song was a huge part of '80s culture. It became an anthem for female attitude and set fashion trends as the video showed Lauper wearing bright, outrageous clothes that looked like they came from a thrift store (they often did). It set the stage for artists like Madonna: independent women wearing cheap, yet fashionable clothes with a taste for garish accessories. Lauper co-wrote many of her own songs, but not this one. Like "I Will Survive," it's a girl power song written by a man. A Philadelphia singer/songwriter named Robert Hazard, who had a band called Robert Hazard and the Heroes, wrote it. Hazard recorded his demo of the song in 1979. Speaking with Rolling Stone, Lauper said that she had to alter the lyrics from Hazard's original. "It was originally about how fortunate he was 'cause he was a guy around these girls that wanted to have 'fun' - with him - down there, which we do not speak lest we go blind," she said.
Cyndi's voice had a wide vocal range. That was her real mother in the video. She had more personality than all the female singers of today put together. This song saved my life.
Cyndi Lauper was and still is a true New Yorker! Just listen to her talk sometime LOL. Her music is timeless and as she got older it was still Timeless still Harvey fierstein asked her to write the music for the Broadway musical Kinky Boots for which she won a Tony Award
The eighties were fun and this song was an instant mega-hit! I remember back then in school you were either a Cyndi Lauper girl or Madonna girl and I like both but I was more a Cyndi girl because she was "So Unusual"! I Still have her breakout album "She's So Unusual" on vinyl and I love to play it every now and then...the whole album is amazing! That's her real mom, Catrine Lauper and Capt. Lou Albano (a famous wrestler) playing her parents. Her mom was in most of her videos! RIP to her mom who just recently passed.💖💖
Cyndi Lauper is a national treasure! I forgot that Steve Forbert shows up at the end with flowers. His "Romeo's Tune" is excellent and worth a reaction!
Thank you for mentioning that because I was sitting here trying to remember what the name of the song was and all I could think was that there was a Romeo in it. I'm also pretty sure it was the only song of his I ever heard.
You two are correct, the 80s was a blast! I was in high school then and some of my best memories are from that time period! So much fun in the music, clothing, and hair styles!
I really didn't appreciate this song until i played it for my now 12 my year old daughter. It was on the movie "girls just want to have fun". It made me laugh and i play it for her on the first day on school to help her calm down.
"Girls Just Want to Have Fun" is a song written, recorded and performed by American musician Robert Hazard in the late 1970s. However, I think Cyndi"s version captures the true essence of the song.
Even as a metalhead since '83, I appreciated certain new wave or pop songs back then, this being one of them. It captured the spirit of the 80s so well, especially from a feminine point of view...80's musical feminism, I suppose, without it being overly political or in your face that way...just fun.
In a way, she did something similar in the 80's to what Lady Gaga did. She decided to go completely goof-ball and off-the-wall. After her success, she decided she wanted to do some more "adult" (regular adult, not sexy adult) singing, and it's very different.
This was my anthem...back in the day. I looked around and saw how hard a woman's life was...my mother's in particular, and this became my anthem. Love you and miss you mum🥰💕Thank you for everything💗
I grew up on this...the 80s were something else, even to a little kid...the nostalgia is real, lol. Cyndi's voice is as unique as her style. She just does her own thing and keeps it real. May I suggest the singer Poe for future videos? She's more 90s onward but is also one for keeping it real. Tons of good ones to choose from but maybe "Angry Johnny", "A Rose is a Rose", or her version of The Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed" are good introductions to her music. Awesome channel, guys...thanks!
At 68 years old, Cindy is one of those singers who can still hit those high pitch notes that other singers in their 60's would not even attempt to sing anymore - mainly because they can't hit those pitches anymore. Also, if you ever watched, Electric Woman and Dyna Girl in the 1970's - every Saturday Morning - Cindy at 17 yrs old, sang the intro theme song for that show: ua-cam.com/video/xc4-SRBykbE/v-deo.html
wow, I totally didn't know that. thanks for the tidbit. loved that intro song as a kid, and all those Sid and Marty Kroft shows, even more so now after learning this.
The cultural impact of this song cannot be overstated - it was one of the early mega-hits on MTV, and launched Lauper into superstardom. I know you've reacted to some of her other work, but I don't think you've done "All Through the Night" yet - I would highly, highly recommend that one as it's my favorite song by her. Cyndi was one of the true icons of the 80's - she changed music, fashion, and from everything I've ever heard was a truly kind-hearted woman. What a legend!
The song was originally written from the male point of view, but Cyndi Lauper’s version flipped that, turning it into a message of equality for women. Her version went on to be nominated and win numerous awards and features in both Rolling Stone Magazine and MTV’s top 100 music videos of all time.
I remember this when it first come out , still the best time to have grown up , no cell phones no social media and everyone got along , no internet it was fantastic
Just found this channel and already can’t get enough of, lex’s incredible smile, laugh and the noises she makes when bopping. You’re both really funny. Greetings from England
1:11 Legend has it Cyndi picked up the phone upside down on Accident but they loved it so much they kept it in the original cut. It has never been confirmed Officially but *I* believe it. When we were kids, my Sister could sing this song perfectly mimicking Cyndi's voice.
This came out in 1983 and it was a huge hit in the US, it played on every radio station, in dance clubs and of course the this music video played it so much. It was heard everywhere you went. And yes, the 1980s were so much fun!
Listen to She Bop to see if you guys can figure whats its about lol. Madonna, Prince, MJ, Cyndi Lauper, The Bengals, LIONEL Ritchie, RUN DMC, Beastie Boys, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, NWA to name just some of the 80s singers and bands that put out hit after hit after hit. This song was very powerful song for women when it first came out in the 80s because it was a enpowerment song for women! And Am 47 so was born in 74 and i got to grow up doing a great time before Technology destroyed the imaginations of kids and made generation lazy!
That may have been the biggest hit of the 80s. The Boss came with a string of hits from his Born In The USA album in 86 had a monster tour. I was there.
I feel like Cyndi has gotten better with age I never really looked at her lyrics but after paying attention to a couple of her songs I'm putting her in Carole Kings class deep emotional and meaningful I'm impressed
I was 21 when this came out. We loved her right away, she was soo unique and different, had New York attitude, plus she could sing. listen to her songs after this, like Time after Time. She's still awesome. Oh, and yeah, the 80's were fun.
Cyndi's voice is really the style of the "Power singer"...Top of your lungs, and let it out! The crazy noises :Lex is talking about is actually wood percussion blocks with a LOT of studio EQ and echo. (recording engineers where wizards of thier craft-- Back then, every label had an ace or two working the control room..That's why they got producer credit on every record).
I have a story for everything. I had a '01 Pontiac Trans-Am WS6 with a Monsoon stereo system. This is equivalent to a Bang & Olfeson system today. I had T-tops off, nearly a Targa or GTS. I played this cranked going down Main Street 20 years ago. Because boys want to have fun and watch pedestrians. But, Cyndi was fun, touching and introspective. She was very popular in the '80's. Still a great singer.
The unique instrument sound is that of a xylophone, played by striking tuned pieces of metal (similar to the concept of a steel drum, but different). : ) Of course, everything can be electronically replicated these days.
I think it’s a synthesizer. Early 80s was big on synths and new digital synths like the Yamaha DX7 were used heavily in music production of that era. Mallet type sounds are easy to make and sound good on analog and digital synths. On this recording it sounds like a synth to me.
I was in my early 20’s in the 80’s. There was never, ever a better time to be alive. Sssooo many great memories of hanging out with friends at the club, the beach, and each other’s houses. And the music was so different and so much fun. I mean, we had MJ, Prince, Springsteen, Billy Joel, and all the new British acts. Just a wonderful time. You guys definitely missed out.
If you want to see how powerful Cyndi's Voice can be, I recommend "I Drove all night". Also, I highly recommend B52's June Bug for Lex. Lex has the best reactions to B52's! LOL
She Bop Music video from Cyndi Lauper deserves a reaction. Another popular 80's hit from her discography. She Bop is a favorite of mine and the music video is so over the top in a good way... Entertaining!
Some boys take a beautiful girl And hide her away from the rest of the world I wanna be the one to walk in the sun Oh, girls, they wanna have fun This always struck me as a very deep line, "I want to be the one to walk in the sun" is so strong to me.
80s was the start of the dance clubs when me and my gal pals would go out and party! Cyndi Lauper kind of had a Betty Boop voice, but man could she belt! This one was a fun one!
This is THE BEST dance song of the 80's!! In college we lived for this song....and every club played it at least five times a night!!!
This was a big MTV favorite. Her mom was really Cyndi's real mom and her "dad" was Captain Lou Albano of WWF fame.
MTV seems like a thousand years ago. 😞
Cyndi was apparently a big wrestling fan....
And all the ladies in those scenes are Cyndi's real life friends.

This came out in 1983 and it was a huge hit in the US, it played on every radio station, in dance clubs and of course the this music video played it so much. It was heard everywhere you went. And yes, the 1980s were so much fun!
Love that you latch on immediately to how great her voice is. She could really belt it out.
Damn! I will always love :” LAUPER THE BOPPER!”Even hearing Homer Simpson sing this song is awesome
This song is PERFECT to show Lex's personality. She is a true gem. I love the relationship you 2 have.
There are some songs out there that always make you smile. This is one of them.
That may have been the biggest hit of the 80s. The Boss came with a string of hits from his Born In The USA album in 86 had a monster tour. I was there.
Both Born in the USA and this song came out in '84 lol
@@johnsonmark65 It was a great concert.
This is THE BEST SONG to blast louder than the speakers are able to on a road trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel like Cyndi has gotten better with age I never really looked at her lyrics but after paying attention to a couple of her songs I'm putting her in Carole Kings class deep emotional and meaningful I'm impressed
Cyndi is really a beautiful soul...she has dabbed in different music and still has a wonderful voice.
The 80’s were fun! This song was played everywhere. It was a female anthem for the times 😎
She was great live at 70 years old still rockin.. or close to seventy.. lovelovelove ❤️✌🏻🌸
(recording engineers where wizards of thier craft-- Back then, every label had an ace or two working the control room..That's why they got producer credit on every record).
xylophone
🤣🤣🤣 she's havin waaaaay too much fun with this one...
When it first came out this was my favorite songs, boy does it take me back in time.
Amazing vocals, she was killin it.
Brad & Alex, you just HAVE to listen to “True Colours” & “I Drove All Night” …so, SO good! 👌🏻
This was an anthem!! ☺ We loved it! Great reaction!
This is just one of those songs that just makes you happy.
Love the “Conehead” bouncing up and down in the video at 5:08 - 5:12, hilarious!
Brad, you are right on. The 80's were the absolute best!! How lucky we were. I was in like 9th grade when this came out.
Just to point out, the Dad in the video was WWE star Lou Albano. Extremely popular in pop culture at the time of this video.
Back then, it was known as the WWF.
I remember when she managed Wendy Richter vs The Fabulous Moolah in Wrestlemania.
@@melaniesweeten5401 you're right, sorry
THE anthem of the 80s. Go Cyndi!!
If you want to see how powerful Cyndi's Voice can be, I recommend "I Drove all night". Also, I highly recommend B52's June Bug for Lex. Lex has the best reactions to B52's! LOL
I love Cyndi so much. Great reaction
She Bop Music video from Cyndi Lauper deserves a reaction. Another popular 80's hit from her discography. She Bop is a favorite of mine and the music video is so over the top in a good way... Entertaining!
Some boys take a beautiful girl
And hide her away from the rest of the world
I wanna be the one to walk in the sun
Oh, girls, they wanna have fun
This always struck me as a very deep line, "I want to be the one to walk in the sun" is so strong to me.
