    Another reason why Imu's existence has always made sense is because of how long the void century is hidden from the world. Not really. This type of explanation is not a true explanation. “It’s hard to expect 5 individuals to work together without conflict for so long”, there are trying to use real life logic into the one piece world to explain a fantasy concept. Wether X organization is competent or not is determined by the author- not the narrative. In the real world, no matter what happens- there is always an explanation for everything because cause and effect are universal principles. If one piece was a real world- Luffy dying by drowning at sea because he slip and fell would be real and effective. But in the world of manga- this is never going to happen.
      Same way, wether the 5 elders could have been doing eveything without Imu or not doenst depend on them- it depends on oda wanting a king of the world or not.

    I would argue 1200 chapters is VERY conservative. 1200 chapters would mean just 143 chapters left. 143 chapters for Elbaf, the moon, Raftel, every strawhat's dream, the fall of the WG, Blackbeard, Dragon, Akainu, Im, Shanks, all the deep lore, all mysteries, the potential epilogue, etc. Given that a rushed Wano took 128 chapters, 143 chapters to cover all of that seems extremely rushed.

      Yeah I'm definitely leaning towards 1500 personally, and I mean Oda said the final "saga", which would make it somewhat equivalent to the 500 chapter Wano Saga, so we're probably about 2/3 of the way done.

    • @MacielDario
      @MacielDario 2 роки тому +11

      1300 chapters seems more reasonable to me. 30 chapters to elbaf and establish the arena for the final war. 100 chapters for the final war and then a final battle against in sama or bblackbeard, something like that, and end all the plot withtin the last 100 chapters
      Also, it would make the journey 100 chapters to start, 500 to make it to the middle, 500 more to go to the end (1100 then) and 200 more of epic conclusion

    It's really important for us fans to constantly remind ourselves that One Piece and Oda should never be elevated above constructive criticisms, but on the other hand there is such a strong rapport at this point. I mean it's been more than 2 decades at this point and in the long run Oda has rarely, if ever, fallen short of expectations. I might seem like a blind fan boy, but I think the reality is I trust Oda at this point and I'm going to wait until everything plays out before saying something stupid like "Im = Kaguya".

    • @ardy1781
      @ardy1781 2 роки тому +55

      Yea like I’m not rly a big fan of how Oda handled Yamato in Wano and I’m not afraid to criticize him for it, but in the long run it doesn’t have a major impact on the big picture story he’s telling, we’re still gonna see epic showdowns against Blackbeard and the Marines/WG, go to laugh tale, and find the one piece regardless of if Yamato was with the crew or not.

    • @CantusTropus
      @CantusTropus 2 роки тому +31

      Yes, I think this is generally fair. Oda is not some kind of infallible god, but he has done a pretty good job for a very long time. I think it's fair to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he will handle it well instead of poorly. If we're wrong, well, THEN we can open the floodgates of criticism. At this point, the most pressing concern for Oda surely has to be to stick the landing correctly. We all know that a bad ending can easily ruin a story, and for a story that's been so good for a literal quarter century plus (likely three decades by the time it's actually finished) to crash and burn at the last hurdle would be a tragedy of historical proportions. Naruto's fumbled ending was bad enough that people still complain about it now, and Naruto didn't have nearly as much buildup as One Piece does at this point. But of course Oda obviously has to KNOW that, and there's no way he decides to just get lazy when working on the climax to his 30-year-long epic. One Piece MIGHT have a bad ending, but if it does, it won't be because Oda didn't bother to try, it'll probably be because of a dumb decision that everyone disagrees with.

    • @anotherpawn
      @anotherpawn 2 роки тому +20

      Yeah. He's just a dude and the fanbase often forgets that he isn't some infallible god (with them screaming "GOATDA, GODA, etc and shutting down legitimate critique). He makes bad calls and considering that were 1057 chapters in and no giant cracks have started to form yet, I'm still optimistic about what the future holds. Wano unfortunately had two major cons, Yamato and the ending being rushed for Film Red (it could have used 5 more chapters) but it was also a great arc on average. Not the best, but not even close to middle of the road for me. Some people are obviously going to hate the ending no matter what, but I hope what he did with the gear 5 form and follows his own gut (like he did with enies lobby and marineford and dressrosa and even whole cake island) and passion rather than letting some publisher and a bunch of people on the internet pressure him into following their vision. We'll just have to wait and see what the man does in the future, and I hope that he can deliver something amazing.

      As someone who's been reading weekly since Enies Lobby, I have to say I really feel disappointed with Wano. I'm fine with the story taking different routes than I imagined, but lately, it feels rushed. Oda plants seeds without giving us the reveals; plants seeds that don't go anywhere; plans overly complex stories with too many characters, and off-screens important developments... It doesn't feel right. And I'm still very skeptical of Luffy's role as a Messiah figure and how unearned and unrealistic (by OP standards) gear 5 felt. I'm honestly not feeling it at the time being. He should go back to the basics a bit more, IMHO.

      I don't necessarily think that's the case.
      Really, all that *needs* to happen now is Shanks and luffys meeting, finding the one piece, and the end war.
      That's maybe three arcs, and wano was easily the largest arc in the story.
      The one piece probably won't need more than twenty chapters dedicated to it. The hard part will be wrapping up shanks + Blackbeard + the WG in that time-- which could conceivably be done in an arc or two.

    Comparing Im to Kaguya is kind of harsh. I didn’t even know there were people who thought that. I mean, sure, Im, if you didn’t pay attention to what is apparently Oda’s mastery of subtle context, did seem to just appear as a new boss to overcome in the future, which has been a norm for the One Piece world for a very, very, very long while now, that’s just all we know about him so far. We just know that he is the true ruler of the world and is most likely the final boss of the series, but we don’t even know what he looks like, his powers, his character in general, hell, it’s been the same with Vegapunk for the longest time to the point that I still can’t believe we finally got to see him appear in the manga, even though it’s the reveal I’ve been longing to see the most!
    Kaguya was a totally different case. The first time she was mentioned was an entire exposition dump of who she is, her relevance to the story, what had happened to her and the story trying to convince us how important she was to both the narrative all the way into the approaching climax of the War Arc despite never being foreshadowed, mentioned or alluded to until the same chapter revealing her backstory, and then next time we see her, she just appears as the True Final Boss thanks to a shadow that was apparently her will manifested to control everything within the world for thousands of years down to every single event because plot, and then boom, face-off, character death, she loses, then we treat her like a Big Lipped Alligator moment and get back to the real meat of the story.
    I’m sorry about the tangent, but like I said, making such a comparison is harsh. Besides, throughout the story, Oda made it feel like that the World Goverment was all run by one single entity, and not a collective. We didn’t need Im to have been mentioned once and yet he still blended so seemlessly into the story because we had been feeling his presence the entire time. Be honest, we all knew that the World Government was going to one day fall, but we knew it wasn’t going to happen just by destroying all their bases, ending the rule of the Word Nobles, convincing the world to stage a revolt, or toppling the heart of their operations. We all knew that it would all topple after the defeat of one man, one thing, and that thing is Im.
    The One Piece villain we knew was there, who has been there since the beginning, and yet we never saw coming.

    Not only that, Kaguya does not have a single 'breadcrumbs' to trace back to. No one expecting that Chakra is actually come from alien fruit, let alone drawing connections to Ootsushiki clans (cmiiw on the spelling) and it's bloodline. The ancient sage, whose children splits into Uchiha and Senjuu, have no prior information that might suggest that he came from some ancient alien bloodline. The ancient sage might as well be just some dude who're so good with Chakra usage in the 1st place (kinda like the Avatar in Avatar: the Legend of Aang series). This is different than Imu.
    Imu is basically the king of the world at this point. We knew that the WG is the peak hierarchy, and even then it's more of a collective kings and rulers that forms a powerful ruling organization. Is it a stretch that in that someone, who with enough power and influence, manage to be the the 'ruler' of rulers, the 'king' of kings. Whether Imu has been established at the right time or not, my concern is whether Imu is used well. We don't need another Wano situation where villains are shown and their general idea is touched on, but it ultimately culminates in one or two pages of a half hearted flashback. As of now, Imu hasn't done anything beyond look menacing at the camera. One Piece shouldn't end with a two page flashback to the moon or whatever because Oda again spent an entire saga focusing on showcasing side characters. Basically, I'm concerned Oda is focusing so much on stuffing concepts into the series that nothing has time to breathe. Wano is a good showcase of that: despite being given a lot of time to develop an idea, so much time is spent meandering and touring the setting and its general ideas and its hundreds of tertiary and secondary actors that the finale released like a wet fart. If Imu is so important and is meant to be the most thrilling, memorable and important villain of the series, then we'd better get started on something this time.

Also, I think it's incorrect to even call it decentralized because it's not. It is an oligarchy, as such the world government has its central authority figure in the celestial dragons represented by the gorosei, they're just benevolent that they would allow the rulers of each country make many of the decisions and approve them, the ones who call the shots are that central figure called the celestial dragons via the gorosei. And with very certain plot developments now leaning towards this outcome.

I say it's possible for Im to be the former Joy Boy & that over time he lost the Nika power.
      Also, Oda likes to show the weaknesses in the different philosophies he depicts. Depicting how a fallen Joy Boy came to be would make the perfect depiction for the limitations of Roger's & Luffy's philosophy. I think it's essential to depict Luffy facing a fallen version of himself to finish off the exploration of the character, and that it would make for a more dramatic final boss fight than Luffy facing off against the guy who defeated the previous Joy Boy. That whole "If you live long enough, you see yourself become the villain" thing is just a very interesting concept

    This'll probably be lost in the comments, but here's my 2 cents:
    I think there will be about 260, maybe 300 more episodes, which would allow for three approx 80 ep arcs... with one being about 100. This doesn't account for filler/epilogues, which I'm sure there will be.
    1400 to 1500 episodes total seems most likely and reasonable.
    However, Oda saying 3 more years... implying he'll condense the rest to 160-200 chapters? That just seems too brief to flesh out all the plot points which have been set up. The very least new entries I could see is about 240-260.
    *edit* an afterthought: I think this works because it means we get about 2 arcs to reach the "end of the second half" at around 1200, paralleling the timeskip, and leading into either one "ultimate" arc, or one with two halves... focusing on Imu, Blackbeard, and the protagonist alliance: 3 different opposed forces with their own interests and motivations.

He's a (German) philosopher so obscure and difficult to read, so full of big words that he made up, that even native German speakers usually don't have a blind clue what he's on about. Reading a translation is even worse. He became popular in certain circles because his beliefs imply that philosophers are the Super Special Enlightened Ones Above All, which means that philosophy professors love him and keep teaching him. He was also a big influence on Marx, who took Hegel's borderline-mystical system and made it materialistic and athetistic.

      @@CantusTropus you clearly dont understand hegel. Im german - and reading Hegel is actually really Easy as he writes really simple. Understanding him is Hard behause his content is pretty hard.
      Actually Hegel didnt make any words up (like for example many „hard“ philosophers do i.e heidegger) - Hegel uses the words which were used in philosophy since plato and aristotle. I think the key to understand Hegel is to know the history of philosophy and especially kants kritique of pure reason. And a little Bit of fichte.
      Clearly you dont know anything about philosophy or hegel. No he doesnt think philsophers are at the top. At the beginning of his phenomenology he writes what science is - and how it is his goal to sublimate philosphy into science. Therefore Philosophy wasnt Even scientific in his view - why he Tried to build a scientific ground for all of the philosophy.
      For him philosophy is something that precedes and at the same time comes After every real science. Not in the sense that Philosophy is „higher“ than this or that science - but philsophy is the very method of every real science (like for example today physics - the approach of it).
      While you could argue that hes idealistic i think it comes to short to see him like that. Actually his famous quote - „to see substance as subject“ (two words which were used since the greece) is really materialistic.

      Like I've said, 'What is Hegel's dialectical method? [Part 1]' is a great place to start with for Hegel, but folks could also check out the work of Hegelian scholars and philosophers such as Prof. Richard Dien Winfield--or they could just read The Science of Logic directly--Hegel's most important work.
      There isn't an easy way to put this but Hegelian logic is the logic of sense-meaning (which ultimately is all we have), which is to say when you think of an idea, of anything (not the language you use to signal to the idea), it has a particular meaning which has a relationship to other meanings, and Hegelianism is trying to figure out what that is like. As such, the basic method of Hegel is 'immanent critique' which is when you think an idea, not think about an idea but do the action of thinking it, you examine that idea like a detective and don't project any formulas or W/E onto the content you're investigating but you simply see where the meaning of the idea leads. And immanent critique is actually the most basic form of analysis.
      But this has to be something you're interested if you wanna pursue it--nobody needs to study Hegelianism just like nobody needs to study biology or physics--if they aren't curious and passionate 'bout it.

    I noticed a while ago that One piece is kind allegory for the new world order. This vid really confirms it for me. The people/person at the top is hidden and pulls the strings from behind so that 1) no one knows who really has the control 2) any anger is directed at the wrong person and 3) anyone who gets too close can be eliminated without drawing attention to the person in charge. As those below from the unimportant to the important are exposed, it gets harder and harder for the person at the top to remain hidden, so at the end he'll have to step out for the final battle. I think 2 super subtle and not even explicit "hints" at IM's existence does not make for a very strong argument. I think your main arguments hinges on those 2 hints (which are weak at best) while your other arguments for IM not being a "last minute" addition is conjecture at best. IM being revealed perfectly during reverie is irrelevant to him not being hinted at earlier or more explicitly. And the rhythm argument isn't very strong either since Oda can still follow a set rhythm while still hinting at IM multiple times before hand. There doesn't need to be only 2 hints for his "rhythm" to work. That being said, I don't think it's as bad as Kaguya 2.0 but I think ppl need to realize that Oda does add last minute stuff to his story all the time, to point it out doesn't make Oda a bad writer.

      I think it's a middle ground between Morj's optimistic view and yours, and the rhythm argument does make sense. You can't drop hints about an evil someone who sits atop it all when we don't even know that the World Government is bad. If we got any hints, no matter how subtle, about a big bad who controlled the WG, before we even know that the WG is doing all sorts of things (like genocide) to prevent the Void Century history from being found out, it would spoil the progression of reveals about the true nature of the world. Instead of being a righteous organization that had some bad apples, it would reveal a lot earlier that someone evil was controlling them all along and so we'd always be expecting them to be the final villains. If anything, hinting at someone above it all wouldn't even make sense before introducing the Tenryuubito. Maybe Oda didn't think of Im from the absolute beginning but I doubt this hasn't been on his mind since at least the Enies Lobby arc.
