That's an awesome idea with the pipe spacers ,currently doing the upper control arm bushings on my 74 monte carlo and this helped so much
GET THAT MAN A VISE!!..........Great video....as always
We have a vise, but Dave loves doing stuff the hard way!
Wow thanks a lot!! That’s was very clear I was searching for this information for a while 😅!!!
This was OUTSTANDING. Thank you so much.
Great video, especially for us that don't have alot of tools. Ordered some new bump stops from Brothers. Keep up the diy vids.
Great tutorial David. I soak mine in Napa carb cleaner for about an hour in a narrow long not to deep stainless kitchen pan. And the bushing swell and pop right out. Just leaves the sleeve to remove. Just thought I'd mention it. Solvents are sometimes real handy in unusual circumstances. Thumbs Up !
Great tip!
Soaking in gasoline will work as well. More dissolves the rubber than makes it swell.
Freaking awesome vid Dave. I always appreciate it when show us how without expensive tools. It might take ya a little longer, but so what, it's a hobby right?! Lol. Good job Mr Welch!
Thanks again buddy!
This series is fantastic, you are a great teacher. Have a 73 c10, no experience and am loving every minute of it. Trying to add power steering to her these days, gonna need a different water pully, some new brackets and lots of creativity. Got the pump and box from a pick apart for a hundred bucks.
Welcome aboard!
Great directions! David, thanks for showing how to do this without the press or expensive spacers for the ears on the lca.
Trying to show people that you don't have to have expensive equipment to di DIY projects on these old trucks. Thanks again for watching!
Thanks for this outstanding tutorial!
Love this guy great tips and tricks!
Thanks buddy!
I did this last weekend. I should have got urethane. Those control arms kicked my butt.
Haha... yeah replacing those original rubber cushions is a beast of a job! Thanks for watching!
very well explained...great vid...Thank you
I have found that if you sand the bushings down too much or if the control arm is just wore out and been rebuilt a few times that if the bushing feels a bit loose in its bore you can simply add a few tac welds from the metal bushing sleeve to the edge of the control arm and if you only do a few tacs you wont burn or distort the rubber and it will last and if you need to change the bushing in the future just grind the weld off first then beat the bushing out, even if the bushing fits tightly I always add atleast 1 or 2 tac welds just for added security so the bushing sleeve wont spin in the bore.
Great advice!
Great vid! Very good info!
Thank you!
this may be the harder way to do it. i used an air impact with a chisel bit, and folded the bushing up. once you smash it in, it pops right out with the same attachment as long as you keep the impact on metal.
I just tried this on my 81 c10 and I stripped the threads all the way off the control arm rod. I didn't sand down the bushing at all, so maybe that's more of a necessity than a helpful tip.
Yeah, freezing the bushings helps a ton too!
What did you use for the spacers to push the bushing in with your ball joint press?
at 7:35 in the video you'll see Dave explain how to use 2.5" exhaust pipe and make your own spacers.
What model of impact wrench was that?
Great videos, thanks 👋
Great video, what are the size of sockets needed for the upper and lower shaft bushing nuts on a 1986 c10?
Sorry man, this was a while ago and we can't remember exactly.
👍
Do you have a video on how to replace the rubber stop on the lower control arm ?
Not at the moment, but we'll make one!
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV yes please cuz for the life of me I can't figure it out
Fire wall mount brake system on 47 55 chevy
Gotcha, thanks for the suggestion.
I'm going to be doing this on my 79 soon. What's the torque on them bolt nuts ?
Can't recall, you'll have to Google the specs. Sorry!
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV thanks for the reply ... love your videos they help out tons !
@@ralphgarcia6605 our pleasure!
My upper control arm bushings seem too wide. The bushings aren't flush with the outer control arm. Is that normal?
Yes, there is a extruded lip around the edge of the bushing hole that keeps them from going in flush.
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV Thanks Brothers! I assumed so after looking at all the photos I took of the upper arm before grinding out the bushings. I even went online and looked at upper arms for sale in that date range. those even showed the bushing recessed out. Its funny that you can't see the outer metal ring of the upper bushing has a slightly bigger diameter until it gets greased up.
Which is better and cheaper to do?
It depends on what your ultimately going for with your project. Rubber rides better, Urethane is slightly stiffer and easier to install if you're doing it yourself.
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV oh ok thanks for the video.
Hi I put in a window reglugar and a new window holder but something going on if I try to roll down the window the glass try’s to come out what am I missing
Sounds like the glass isn't properly seated or attached to the sash (the piece that holds the glass). did you use glass tape or glue?
No I didn’t use and tape or glue on it yet
Do you know where I can get the piece that hold the glass to the channel at I guess the sash
@@andrewjohnson7205 You can grab some at a local glass installer or auto parts store. We sell it too, but if you buy it locally you won't have to wait for shipping. It's called Glass Setting Tape.
I want to rebuild the whole front end do you have a link to all the parts needed 1976 c10
Sorry Paul, we sell all the parts separately. Call the shop and one of the guys will put together the parts necessary for you. 800-977-2767
I just buy new control arms
Why can't you just use the old casing and put in new rubber
That's how the Urethane bushings work, but the rubber ones have the cushion impregnated into the shell and its not removable.
