It’s a good song, the rest of the album so far stands out a little more in my opinion. I will continue to listen and let it grow on me. Happy listening all🤘
@SalvoG
The look on your face as you realized what the song was about was great . It was real shock .
It was right up there as far as their hits go . And yes it got very heavy rotation on MTV ,VH1 , the radio and cd sales .
It's one of those songs that you either love it or hate it pretty much no in between . Thank You for the reaction.
I love this song. It really shows the desperation that those who have issues with fertility can and will go to to have a child. This came out in the 80’s when people weren’t as judgmental as they are now. It was played all the time on MTV and I don’t remember people making a big deal about it.
It was so hard on my wife.
My wife and I had our daughter 8 years ago. Then, as soon as it was possible, we began trying again for another. 1 year became 2, 2 became 3, 3 became 4, 4 became 5 years.
We began looking for an IVF at the beginning of year 6. We found health problems with my wife and had the surgery fairly quickly to get it fixed. Found an IV clinic in VA and set up the appointment. Traveled 2200 miles 8x.
We had about a month before we did the implantation, so I wanted to take my wife and daughter on a trip before. We went to town we met for a few days then camping.
Came home refreshed and pumped about IVF. And the week before we left, my wife comes in with 14 pregnancy tests, all positive.
We spent so much money to get it all set up. And the day my son was born and we held him, I realized to get him, I would have given up every material possession we had because the love and happiness on my wife's face holding him had so much more value to me than green pieces of paper.
He just turned 1.
Ha! People were very judgmental in the 80's We just didn't have social media where we could see all of it
😅😅😅😅 people were ABSOLUTELY just as judgmental then, if not more so. We just didn't see it as much without social media
@@toriboy25 NOTHING like today LOL.
@@kenyonsgirl415 Well then that was a good thing then wasn't it? It probably wouldn't be a NO. 1 single today with all the prudes on social media trying to get it banned.
I was 20 years old when this came out and as far as I can remember no one batted an eyelid or made a big deal of it. I live in Australia and it was No. 1 here and people aren't hung up about that kind of thing as it seems to be in America and some other places.
Me too a bit older, living in the Netherlands, just an awesome pop song. The disbelief of all reactors is hilarious, so prudent 😅
I lived in Texas back then and people thought it was disgusting, especially since it was the height of AIDS with no cure on the horizon. It probably wasn't controversial in NY or LA but in Texas it was.
I was 22 when this was released and remember it well. I totally understood the lyrics and their meaning. I had no idea it was considered controversial. Everyone I knew loved the song and recognized it as a message of female empowerment.
I didn't hear any controversy about it either.
Do you think maybe it would be different if the song was released today vs the 90s?
@@SalvoG Could be. I'm in Canada, but both US and Canada have become more conservative in the past 30 years.
@@SalvoG I don't know how it could be any more controversial than some of what we see these days, but it probably would be. I find this ultra-sensitivity somewhat annoying, bordering on the naieve. Whether we like to think or talk about it or not, that story has happened millions of times, I'm sure.
@@k_salter yeah definitely, visuals now days go to the max lol I don’t mind the lyrics they just aren’t very conventional for some people probably
I remember when this came out back then as Heart is pretty much my favorite band of all time. This song was a huge hit and the video played every hour on the hour when it was most popular on MTV. There were some people that didn't like it because it was different from Heart's normal style, but not because of the controversial subject matter. The idea that this woman went out looking for this guy to have sex with to get a baby since her husband couldn't get her pregnant was so shocking it added to the popularity of the song. This is still one of my favorite songs of theirs. Personally I don't mind that it differs from their other songs. I love it when groups do something different and it certainly doesn't take away from the song just because it doesn't have a guitar solo or hard vocal this time.
Stranded and Will You Be There In The Morning are in a similar vein (with guitar solos) and would be a cool introduction to Nancy singing lead as well.
I personally don't care for either of those songs. Stranded is ok, but WYBT(ITM) sounds nothing like Heart to me. By that time Capitol had force fed Heart so many power ballads that they were starting to sound more like a whiny soft rock group than what they actually are. Brigade had four singles and all of them were power ballads and it ended up stalling their career. You'd never know the album rocked so hard from listening to the singles (thank God for rock stations playing Wild Child and The Night). I read an interview with Ann and she said WYBT was forced on them and it didn't fit in with the rest of Desire Walks On -- I have to agree with her. It was a terrible choice for the first single (Ann wanted My Crazy Head to be the first single but of course Capital overrruled her). Sorry for the long diatribe!
That movie would be “Weird Science” from 1985 ♥️
Back when this came out a lot of people didn't realize what this song was actually about, they just liked the beat and the chorus.
I still remember the DJ at our rock station explaining the lyrics. It seems like people liked it more after they knew about it's subject matter. It's pretty generic sounding until you realize the message is anything but generic pop.
LOVE This song!!!! Too bad Anne Wilson thought it was so ridiculous that they don’t play it live anymore. Glad I caught the Brigade tour in the 90’zzz where they HAD to play it…. 🤘🏽❤️🤘🏽❤️🤘🏽❤️
It's got a terrible message, I think that's why Ann hates it. I saw an interview with her and she said it's got a great groove but she thinks the lyrics are "gross". Have to agree with her.
@@chrisacer6605yeah….getting loved down by a random dude on the road to get something your hubby couldn’t give u…is a bit of a dicey message. But it sure sounded good with Anne’s voice 🤘🏽❤️🔥🤘🏽❤️🔥
I've always loved Heart and have all their stuff. This might be my favorite or tie for favorite. I've seen them three times live , including the Brigade tour. They are incredible and Ann's voice will lay you out! One of my favorite female vocalists.
I love it, I spent a lot of money following them in the Brigade years. I become a fan in the 80's and had to go back to the 70's sound to fall in love with them again. You have to understand that was the sound in that era and they were able to show their talent no matter the era.
I love this song. I have had great feelings for this song since I first heard it, in 1990. It does make one think about the couples who are in a relationship where one or the other cannot produce a child. It would be an awful way to live, wanting a baby, but knowing your mate cannot give you one.
This is an awesome song! Vocals are unreal from heart ! Classic 80’s
It actually came out in the 90s. Thankfully the production on the album isn't that bass-less 80s production and is heavy on bass with more distorted guitar. A little less glossy than the 80s albums.
except for it came out in 1990.
My favorite song of theirs. Ann stated that she never liked doing this song because she felt bad for the guy in it. Problem was everyone liked this song and wanted to hear it. Myself included.
Ann said she hates the song because it's "gross". I agree with her, especially when considering it was when AIDS was killing tons of people, both gay and straight. Terrible, terrible message, but there's not a doubt in my mind that the shock value of the song is why it was such a huge hit.
Well, apparently she thought several things about and I’m sure she did. I liked it. So I guess those of us who did are just gross people.
@@sherryarflin726 She did say that so if it bugs you go talk to her.
Grow up!
@@sherryarflin726 Right back at ya. You're the one throwing a fit. When you're mad at everyone else it suggest the problem lies with you.
How can you be a Heart fan and not like this song? The lyrics only makes it more interesting, and makes it stand out, from the dime-a-dousin love songs.
It depends on what type of Heart fan. A fan of Heart the classic hard rock band, or a fan of Heart the sappy ballad band. Most fans of classic Heart don't like this song.
@@WithaJoeFro I grew up in the 80s and I think one of the reasons why I love this song so much (apart from being a great power ballad) are the lyrics. From an 80s stance, coming from a female rock band, those lyrics are incredibly progressive and courageous.
Ann is a Heart fan and she doesn't like it. Personally it's too pop for my taste, then the lyrics are almost gross especially when you consider the time period was when AIDS had no treatment or cure.
The people I know who are huge Heart fans are the ones who detest this song the most. When you compare it to classics like Barracuda or Crazy on You it seems pretty easy to understand peoples' dislike.
@@Tabris93 Using a guy for sex because your partner is sterile is courageous? You apparently have a unique opinion of what "courageous" means. Progressive sounds about right though considering that progressive ideology involves getting what you want at any cost.
It's actually quite a sad song. The act od desperation on her part for the want of a child! She unfortunately did to him, what countless other guys have done to girls for all history! She just didn't count on this guy being different from other guys and feeling awful about having used him!
Good point
Exactly! I really hate the fact that a lot of ppl think the woman in the video is evil for “doing the guy dirty” or whatever but they were both adults and they both knew what they were getting into and they each got something out of it. There was a 50/50 chance she would even get pregnant anyway so how could she have done what she did with malintent to begin with? It’s an awesome song with an awesome video imo!
It's not quite the same. A man uses a woman but not for the purpose of stud service of unwittingly having his baby. Only the woman knows if a child is a result of the tryst.
@@SWLinPHX There are a lot of guys who have no problem "spreading their seeds around'. They even brag about it. The only difference is the guys don't get pregnant, the women do.
@@sp33dingbulletwell, she specifically slept with him to get pregnant. The line about the hotel "it was a place I knew well" leads the listeners to believe she's tried it before and it never worked, but this time it did.
It stood out, that's making chart hits for you. Sometimes it's just about the lyrics. It''s for grown ups really. 😉
"Shake Your Love" by Debbie Gibson stood out too. That doesn't make it good.
Great reaction! One of my favourite rock ballads and rock ballads usually do tell a story and are usually long songs over 5 minutes long.
I loved this song soooo much! It was really the only Heart song that I really cared for. If your looking for a longer version, there is one!
Ann answers the questions about this song on her own UA-cam channel. Then proceeds to do a stunning live version herself ..Check it out Salvo . As always we send you our love ❤️
The song is a showcase of her incredible voice. If similar subject matter was addressed in a huge hit by a man a different discussion would occur
Carefully re-listen to the ending verse .. to me she doesn't go to find him. she said "then it happened one day he came around the same way" basically at some point a few years down the road they just happened to cross paths very unexpectedly. and after he realized who she is he looks at the kid and noticed his own facial features in the child and he quickly connected the dots remembering the note she left. the she saw in his face that he realized the kid was his and that when she explains as best as she can.
Like a few others mentioned it just goes to show you the lengths people will go to to have a child. especially if the cant afford the outrageous expenses and risks that can go with artificial insemination etc. it catch moving and sad. her note was very poetic and moving. but the end was a real gut punch in the feels.
A real gut punch in the feels, ja ja ja, very descriptive.
Yeah she didn't seek him out, she just ran into him.
I always took it that he was working at the Hotel they had their tryst in (to hopefully run in to her again) and 1.5 - 2 years later she stopped at the Hotel to book a room and get out of the rain/weather with her baby and possibly her husband in the car...
Mutt Lang was married to Shania Twain. He wrote many of her hit. Really love Heart and they were great in concert. Anne can sing her ass of no matter what age she is.
Here is something interesting; Ann Wilson did not like this song at all. She hated the message, but the record company persisted and it became one of their biggest hits.
And what a beautiful song too …
@@greekadmirer2204 I dunno. A woman picking up a strange man for sex because her husband is impotent doesn't sound "beautiful".

That movie was Weird Science...yay I remembered lol
Ann Wilson's least favorite Heart song; she refused to perform it at concerts. Personally, I agree with Ann. At least it wasn't composed by the Wilson sisters...
One of my favorite songs.
❤ this song!!
I love this song, the tunes are great and their vocals are always on point. I think this ironic how people are so judgmental when it comes to a woman having a one night stand with a man… especially when the majority of the time it’s the other way around.
Brigade was one of my fav albums
Try to remember this (and the follow-up "Stranded") were their last big original studio hits.
This is my favorite Heart song
Interesting. Do you consider yourself a big fan of Heart's music? Most diehard Heart fans I know can't stand this song.
@@chrisacer6605 this is my opinion i a great song. i don't what other people think. if they don't like this song well that's just too bad for them. i also love their other music.
I can never tell how much I truly like (or dislike) a song until I've heard it a few times (...over time).
I grew up listening to this.
In that year everybody was talking about this song. The lyrics, the story.... But I didnt understand english.
I asked a friend to translate It and It blew my world.
1st, until that moment I never saw women as sexually active individuals. I was just a teen back then but I am a dork bien, imagine then. But more important, it made want to learn english. And english opened a lot of doors and job oportunities. This song quite literally changed muy life
The movie you're speaking of is WEIRD SCIENCE!
Sounds like Weird Science. Love Oingo Boingo theme song too! Oingo Boingo and ALL their music!
Yeah!!! I loved that movie!!
Are you thinking of the movie "Weird Science"? Guys "create" a hot babe!!! This is a great song!!! 100,000 views speaks for itself!!😉😉🎶🎼🎵🥁🎙🎸🎤🤟🤟🤟
The movie you referred to is "Weird Science"
Movie is "Weird Science"
I love how people miss the most important line in the song because it comes before you really understand it.... "We found this hotel, IT WAS A PLACE I KNEW WELL"
That wasn't the most important line in the song. It's not like the goal of the song was to make her out to be a sl*t.
Weird science is the movie you were trying to remember...kelly Lebrock!❤
also starring a young Robert Downey Jr, Anthony Michael Hall and Bill Paxton.
if you want harder female rock then try either 'Vixen' or maybe Lita Ford - both stunning in their own right
It was probably the movie “weird science”.
Weird science might be the movie you were talking about
"Weird Science" is the movie you were asking for help with. Two high school geeks conjure up the perfect woman, then super model Kelly LeBrock.
It’s Mutt Lang like sang. Doby pronounced like Moby as in Moby Dick.
This was frowned upon by the morals police and nearly every mom of a teenage girl went nuts trying to ban it , some countries did ban it . Just know that even Ann Wilson hated this song way back when and still does , it creeps her out .
Thinking further, why some may dislike, this vid perhaps 'guys" do not like when the tables turn and it is the woman that pursues the man rather than the man pursuing the woman OR The "Ladies" may not like just because of the premise of sleeping with a stranger. Again, I have no clue, my girlfriends (or maybe they did not admit that they disliked) and our friends were cool with it.? Truly the first-time hearing people NOT liking this.
I think your talking about the movie Weird Science....
At this time this MTV video was released I don't remember this being too risqué or controversial, for this time somewhat normal. I liked the story, Ann's voice awesome! I would suspect "one-night stands" offend people nowadays or the premise,? There are far more music videos that were worse, IMHO.
I do, mainly because it was when AIDS was still relatively new, there were no effective treatments for it, and it was considered a terminal diagnosis. It was less about the one-night stand and more about the potential of catching a terminal disease.
Salvo, if you like Heart's heavier side, then you MUST check If Looks Could Kill (from the same album as Never) - it's a true banger of a track!
This was a good power ballad, I've always liked it, it's not their best - but it pales to Alone (that one stands...ahem...alone...as a GREAT ballad!)
You still need to check Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer (from Little Queen), for a different, more melodic sound to Heart (Nancy is in fine acoustic guitar form, and Ann, well, when is she not in great form?!)
He's done that song and a bunch of their harder album cuts.
If you like songs that really push from the 80s movies, check out Jon Parr St. Elmos Fire
I was 18 the year this came out and I don’t recall any controversy.
Weird Science
I like this song! If you like story telling songs I recommend ODE TO BILLY JOE BY BOBBIE GENTRY!
Check out Lizzy from the band "Halestorm" , Her version of this song ,her voice is on par bro.
At least Lizzy played it like a hard rock band should instead of making it sound like Starship.
Halestorm's version sounds more like Heart than the Heart version of this song does.
The movie you are thinking of is Weird Science. They create a woman with their computer.
For me it was powerful, as the first time ever women show their sexual confidence. Remember it was only 20 years after the sexual revolution.
Marilyn WAY before 1990 and Madonna the decade leading up to this showed their sexual confidence and I am sure many others. And the Sexual Revolution started in 1960 this is 1990
I totally get it … 🤣 I got to live the 60’s. This had a girl power that Madonna and Marilyn didn’t have. They appealed to a different audience
The song was written by Mutt Lange (pronounced L-A-N-G like KD Lang), the ex-husband of Shania Twain. It was a big hit for Heart, but the both Nancy and Ann hated performing it.
For something a lot heavier try ...... Heart ... "If Looks Could Kill"
I prefer their older music it’s harder, when they hit the 80s it turned into love stories & trying to hit the charts.
I personally love the 80s power ballads and poppy stuff (not this one so much though) but they still have great rock songs on the albums
Their 80s and 90s albums were every bit as hard as the 70s albums. The difference is that Capitol Records only released the pop songs as singles and basically ignored the harder tracks. Capitol didn't even send the harder material to album rock stations until this album came out so at least those stations played Wild Child, The Night, and Tall Dark Handsome Stranger. Anyone who only heard singles from this period would think Heart was a soft rock band which couldn't be further from the truth.
This era of Heart actually had harder tunes than the 70s did, but the record company wouldn't release their harder songs to radio. Songs like The Night, Black on Black, The Wolf, Bad Animals, Rage were as hard or harder than Heart's older material but Capitol Records wanted Top 10 hits so hey would only release power ballads. To me the biggest difference between the older stuff and the late 80s output was the choice of singles.
i'm not sure but the film you' re thinking of might be weird science
Weird Science is the movie
You're right, it is an hour and s half movie in one song 🤷♀️ it's a good song, def slower, but kind of cheesy lol
Definitely cheesy lol
Weird Science was the movie😊
Ann could sing "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and I would love it.
The story behind this is: Ann thought it was disgusting. Those that pay attention to Ann and Nancy and their writing...know without doubt this is not how they write. They both are Earthy, Bucolic and authentic. These ladies are amazing.
However, "On The Road Home" DVD and CD. John Paul Jones(from Led Zeppelin) rearranged the song to make it more of a love song.
This song, I believe was banned in Ireland.
Dan Rather's Big Interview Heart gives full disclosure on both sisters POV especially Ann's since she had to lay down vocals on a song she didn't believe in.
Yet she explains the popular vote.
I'm on the fence decades later... 🤔
P.S. silent e, pronounced Lang. 👍🏽
If you like their harder stuff…. I highly suggest you hear them sing Led Zeppelin at a tribute many artists participated in at the Kennedy Center! It was PHENOMENAL and if you had never heard the original “Highway to Heaven” you would think it was their song!!!
This song is amazing, I find it interesting that because they are women this is considered risqué… yet Artists like Prince (whom I love) sang songs and basically humped the stage like on Little Nicky” or Def Leopard also love and saw in concert 🎵 a few times… pour some sugar on me
I believe their version of Stairway is the first Heart performance he covered. He did it way before this song.
There's no need to read what this song is about. The lyrics tell the whole story. And even more with the video.
If anyone doesnt like this then they are not a HEART fan!
80's movie with a party and boys making a woman? Weird Science. They made the woman with their computer, and the party came after that. Good movie actually, campy as all get out, but charming in a NOT PC 80's way.
Ann hated this song, but it didn't stop her from sing the shit out of it.
I loved this song! Definitely a woman's song dealingvwith the issues of infertility in the marriage. Kinda relevant again today with the abortion issues back in the spotlight and women's freedom of choice about her body. Yes, it was a MTV standard for awhile. Also radio wasn't as big a deal as MTV was back then. The theme of the song wasn't about "fun". It was about a woman making a choice about her body and marriage. FINALLY openly being being addressed in public. Songs/music addressed the issues if the time.
If you listen to Ann talk about this song they didn't think it through nearly as much as you're describing, and the gender of the song was originally about a guy picking up a woman but they rearranged the gender. According to Ann the only reason they did the song is because Capitol forced it on them, and the only reason it was the first single is because Mutt Lange (who wrote it) had a contract with Capitol saying his songs can only be used by other artists if it is the first single released. To satisfy that requirement they released this song first and released Mutt's other song (Wild Child) as the first cut sent to rock stations. That agreement is also the reason Will You Be There In the Morning was he first single from Desire Walks On against Ann's wishes. Black on Black would have been the first single but Capitol only released it to radio as a promo single because of the Mutt Lange requirement.
I hated that you read the meaning of the lyrics beforehand. I was really wanting to see you react as you realized what it was about. 😢
Exactly! The whole point is to see shock at the final twist!
I didn’t read them all I saw the part about fertility and stopped…most of the lyrics were fresh to me. I had no idea she saw the guy and again and then left
The music video did get heavy rotation. I was in high school.
WEIRD SCIENCE
That movie your thinking about
Weird Science was the movie
Weird Science. The movie you asked about?
It was controversial back then because she picked up and man and took him to a hotel. Back in the day you was not supposed to be like that.
It was controversial because it glorified unprotected sex at a time AIDS was new and had no effective treatment. In 1990 a woman picking up a strange man and shacking up with him was about as likely to infect her with HIV as it was to make her pregnant.
Weird science
Are you trying to think of Weird Science? They created a woman (Kelly LeBrock). That movie was so great back then but now is kinda hard to watch two minors with an older woman lol.
I felt like when you pausedthe song, you paused it at a crucial point where it kinda messes with the story line, even though you still got it. I remember when this song came out and nobody thought anything bad about it.
I lived in Texas when it came out and there was a ton of controversy there. Our local rock station had people boycotting it because they played this song.
@@chrisacer6605 I lived in Texas also
@@RandyStoker1964 Must not have listened to the same stations.
The controversy is ALL in the music video! Lots of people here commenting about not remembering or knowing about the controversy surrounding this song. But I do remember it well. There are many accounts of deadbeat dads, but this is (one of?) the first time a VERY popular song (#2 US) used its music video to illustrate the idea of a woman intentionally using a casual hookup with a stranger in order to become pregnant. But the lyrics themselves are not 100% clear about this intention if you ONLY listen to the song WITHOUT watching the official music video. As a song, those lyrics could be interpreted in a number of much less impactful ways. Her true motive only becomes 100% clear when you watch the music video. So if you've never watched the video, you may not have understood the controversy -- or perhaps never even known there was one!
Another reason it was so controversial is because it came out at the height of AIDS at a time when there were no treatments that worked. HIV was a death sentence then, so a song like this seemed really tone deaf.
Naw, it played MTV a lot.
FWIW, Ann actually really dislikes this song and they don't really perform it live anymore -- the last time they did, was 2009.
They didnt' perform it in 2009. Ann performed it at one of her solo shows in 2017 but Heart as a band haven't performed it since the 90s.
Heart hasn't performed this song live since the 1990s.
This was a time when their record company demanded hits from the band. So the record company also wanted them to record other people's songs instead of only their own songs. I guess they didn't have a choice and had to go along with the record company wishes. I personally never liked this song. I have the album, but always skip this song.
The rest of the album in crazy good, certainly underrated. IMO this was the worst song on the album, and the terrible choice of singles is why the album didn't sell as many copies as the previous two records. Brigade and Desire Walks On are the two best albums of that era, and IMO the only real weak cuts on both albums were written by Mutt Lange (this song and Will You Be There in the Morning).
The young man in this video is simply gorgeous!
Sometimes it seems that some of the younger generation is so naïve. I don't understand why you are so shocked about what happened.
In 1990 when this song came out it was controversial because it glorified unprotected sex with strangers at a time when AIDS had no treatment and was spreading like wildfire.
Dude, we hear you but this isn't supposed to be "Barracuda" or "Magic Man" or "Crazy On You", etc. That was 1970's Heart. 1980's Heart was more produced/mainstream pop/rock, but also good. Just a different phase of their career. This is along the lines of their other mega-hits "Alone" and "What About Love". They had a 7-year absence and during their metamorphosis they came back with that newer "polished" 1980s sound.
The problem is this song doesn't sound like Heart, and it's not a song the band even wanted on their album. Band's evolve their sound and Heart certainly did that, but compare the 80s/90s songs written by the band (Bad Animals, The Night, The Wolf, Shell Shock, Never, Easy Target, etc) to this and they sound as different as the 70s material. With those Capitol albums long time Heart fans could tell what was self-written vs. outside writers just by listening.
@@chrisacer6605 I don't get what you mean that it "doesn't sound like Heart". They don't have just one sound and other hits of theirs weren't originals either, such as "Alone" which was a huge hit. If they recorded it and it was a hit then you can't really say it does not sound like them or is not "their sound". Just a different sound from a different era or even just the difference between rockers vs. ballads. For that matter "Dog & Butterfly" is a different sound than "Barracuda".
What would the people who like it say if the husband had come home and said he'd gotten another woman pregnant.would that be ok . isn't that what she did?
80's MTV-style "hit" that Ann really wanted to be a ballad - check out their live unplugged version from 1995's "The Road Home" concert (ua-cam.com/video/11ntr5rT7_I/v-deo.html).
Heart has a variety of song styles from hard rock to soft ballads and everything in-between - this one is not really meant to be rock.
Ann actually didn't want it to be part of this album but at that time Capitol called all the shots. And Mutt Lange had a contract with Capitol that said any Capitol artist who covered one of his songs had to A) get his approval of any lyric changes that are made, and B) his song had to be the first single from the album. Brigade had two Muttl Lange songs, and this one was the first single; the other one, "Wild Child" was the first album track to be sent to hard rock radio. For 1993's Desire Walks On album, the first single was also a Mutt Lange song, "Will You Be There In the Morning" -- Ann hates that song too.
The band didn't even want it on their album because it doesn't sound like a Heart song. Capitol Records forced it on them.
Mutt lang it's pronounced....Shania Twains ex
Anne hated this song because of the story.
Ann Wilson hated this song. Whether it had anything to do with the way the American's reacted to it, who knows? Here in Australia, it was immensely popular. We tend to be a little more laid back, and not so critical.
It was a huge hit here, but a lot of people in America didn't like the song promoting unprotected sex at the height of the AIDS crisis.
SHE’S not infertile! Her husband is! That was her whole purpose of the one-night stand. He couldn’t give her the baby she wanted. Reading those notes kind of spoils the surprise of the song, so I think I’ll bow out. Enjoy, though.
I HATE when someone tell you what the song is about
Dude, this is a pop story song. It's not a hard rock guitar driven tune like "Crazy On You" or "Magic Man" or "Barracuda", etc.
Pregnancy after a one night stand, it happens. Now she’s in love with another man and has a different life.
No she was in love with another man prior who could not get her pregnant.
In 1990 a woman picking up a strange man and having unprotected sex was about as likely to get her an HIV diagnosis as it was to get her pregnant.
I think what the controversy might be for some is that she purposely went out to get pregnant by another man because her husband was sterile and she never told the father until they ran into each other. I say the stranger (man) had sex with a stranger without a condom. I don't feel bad for him? If they were in a relationship I would feel differently
Most of the controversy was because AIDS was new and had no effective treatment and this song seemed to be promoting unprotected sex with strangers.
