There was also several channels of this stuff available 24/7 On wacaday they showed segments of an episode of Transformers so it it could take a month to watch one. You had to learn to be patient and appreciate what you had. I love these long in depth discussions and when a conversation develops you end up on a subject you never imagined at the beginning and it can bring a golden moment. This video is a good example I feel of that.

No shit! I went thru multiple teachers and they were all brilliant, but they just didn't know how to connect with young learning students. They took the fun out of it and made it like homework. I finally confronted one and asked why she's having me transcribe Mary Had a Little Lamb and Happy Birthday and the other nursery rhymes and she told me it was because the melodies are so ingrained that it makes the connection between the ear, the hands and the brain. When you see a C sharp, you hear a C sharp and you play the C sharp, you build that bridge between the three. I told her we could do the same thing with ACDC Back in Black and not only would it be learning, I would have FUN. She then switched over to using songs I actually enjoyed and my playing exploded. If I had a guy like Rick it would have been even better!

You’re a good interviewer, I would watch more interviews by you Justin :-) I also like your Freeform stuff, you are hilarious. And you say great things.
I’m only 20 minutes in. The most endearing experience of Rick I’ve seen yet. Congratulations Justin. You have a way with top tier artists. Now back to the show.. and oh yeh, do more of this.
The great thing about this ‘interview’ which it isn’t really, (it’s more like a fireside chat over a beer ((without either)), is that it brings out the best in both of them.
Such an awesome interview. It was great how Justin and Rick kind of jumped back and forth in the interviewer role. Lol. I would love to see Justin do more interviews. Such a natural talent.
If it wasnt for youtube i would never of heard of Rick Beato. As a 48 year old music lover and hack Bassist his content has enriched my life I am so grateful for this platform enabling people like Rick and you Justin to share your knowledge to us millions of lovers of all genres of music. Thank you both Justin and Rick for doing what you do.
Madly in love with both of your channels. I'm not a music genius like Rick Beato but I was atracted by this channel because of the theme. When I heard "Justin Hawkins rides again 🎵🎶🎶🎶..." I knew. You had me at hello Justin! 😅🙃🧡✨🤩 This was an extraordinary interview, thank you so much! ❣️❣️❣️
Bernie Tarpaulin! What an awesome conversation by two of my favourite music gurus. I read a few comments before posting this one and I know I'm just one of a multitude who loved this. Thanks Justin, well done.
I agree. Rick looked particularly relaxed with Justin. Rick's interview with Sting was probably the least relaxed, but it looked to me that Sting was tense and defensive at first until he understood where Rick was coming from. I got the impression Sting didn't do his homework and watch Rick's videos, but went in blind.
Just found your channel and I love how humble you are! It's great to see an accomplished musician struggle a bit when learning songs by ear instead of making it look simple like you're reading off sheet music!
Justin, your humility is endearing (like admitting nerves at the beginning). This was a great hang between two guys of different generations who like the same things. Keep doing the interviews - so much is learned in little asides and throw-away comments. Really enjoyed it.
Loved this! I'm a big Beato fan and didn't know your work until the Taylor Hawkins concert. I was like, who the hell is ripping it up with Wolf Van Halen? How can they get this guy to tour with Wolf, Alex (or Dave G) and Mike Anthony? Seriously, you killed it. Sorry I came late to your work, but I'm old like Rick B (but taller). I would pay just about any sum to see you front VH. And Wolf's playing of his dad's shredding was amazing. Perfect and with soul. You guys blew me away.
Mr Beato is my favorite source of quality information and interviews. I check his channel everyday, he has dedicated his life to helping others. It will be so cool to see Rick interviewed.
I really like Rick except when he goes off on one his self- pitying whines. So most of the time he’s great except when he’s feeling sorry for himself. I’m not even saying he doesn’t have a good point to make very often but the way he goes about it for me, is like finger nails down a blackboard.
I appreciate right out of the gate admitting you were a bit nervous! People don't realize at any stage of perceived success of public exposure nerves can creep up! This is going to be GREAT!
It was watching Rick Beato’s videos that caused your channel to show up in my suggested videos to watch. As with his, I immediately subscribed to yours, and have been enjoying your channel ever since. What a great video to listen to two musically gifted individuals share such insight, and is pure gold; especially for someone not so musically inclined, such as I.
Rick is such a naturally engaging speaker. Even if it's about music that I'm not particularly into, his enthusiasm and passion are thoroughly enjoyable.
I'm barely even into this interview & my answer to your question (do we want more long form content) is a resounding, yes! Pretty sure I speak for scores of others when I say that, too. That's honestly my only complaint about your content, is that I wish it was longer. You really are highly entertaining.
Damn , That was like Frodo meeting Gandalf. Great show !! I loved when he whipped out the All the deminished augmentation of 7th chord stuff!! Great show Justin you are a worthy student and a your wizardly is appreciated daily. Just think of all the knowledge you will possess when your hair turns white 😂
What a wonderful interview, Justin! I've been a Rick Beato fan since the first time I saw one of his videos, in which I learned that we both grew up in the same place. I am always amazed by both the breadth and depth of his music theory knowledge. This video showed up in my recommended list and looked intriguing - I am so glad I've watched it! As an interviewer, you have such an engaging, endearing personality. You've just earned another subscriber!
Utterly hilarious. I slowed it down and just the right time while Justin was talkin and rocking back and forth with this handout pretending like he was holding a glass or a bottle.

Wow, Two of my favourite presenters and musicians together. Both of you are helping to keep the joy of making music alive. As a 54 old drummer who has been obsessed by music since a child, both of your channels are inspirational and infectious. You are helping to educate the next generation of musicians. My favourite part? All of it 👍🙏 Thanks to you both.
I get the feeling that at this stage of Rick’s life his priority is passing on his skills and knowledge for future generations. He is a natural teacher and he also has a young family. Recording must be all engrossing so going back to that would take him away from his precious family.
My wife is laughing at me because this is one of my favorites interviewing another. Totally makes my day. Thank you Justin. I discovered you and The Darkness a few months after you played in Seattle last year. AAAAAAUUGH!! I hate that when that happens.
I know I'm late to the party, but just the conversation between someone with all the formal knowledge and someone who is a "natural" is so fascinating to me. Especially because they're both so positive to each other and genuinely invested in expanding their own knowledge and their enthusiasm for music in general
Incredible interview! I really appreciate that both of you took the time to do this. I’d definitely love to see Justin go to Rick’s studio to nerd over his gear, record (both songs Justin never put on tape . . . and the JHRA theme song that can be sold as a phone ringtone to raise money for a cause), and to try all those sad guitars and gear that never get any playtime anymore. Maybe Rick can interview Justin. That would be epic! I would definitely love to see both of you make videos like this interview from time to time to talk about anything and everything. You both have interesting perspectives and knowledge, and it’s fun to hear you both speak together. Thanks to both of you! (And yes, I would love to see some more long form interviews if you’re willing and able to find some time, Justin. You have access to interesting people in the business and can easily persuade them to get on camera with your endearing charm! ☺️)
I really like you both more now after this. And I really liked you both before. Mutual admiration, respect, love for music, curiosity. Thank you for this!
This is TOO FANTASTIC for words. But I’ll try…I loved the way you leaned into the conversation and there was quite a genuine and positive energy between you both! This was incredibly insightful and you must continue this type of in-depth interview as you’re quite the natural. Love that it was NOT heavily edited, we got to witness a really quality conversation. Please do more of these!

Justin’s got the humour covered.
Rick has, without a shadow of doubt, the best, all round music channel, on yt.
Yes
One of Rick's greatest qualities is his calming presence and that's saying alot.
I dunno, I feel he would be quite intimidating.
@@dentoncrimescene Cannot stand him or his boring, egomaniacal commentary on his channel. Worst JHRA video ever.
Rick is 61. It would be immature of him to go all crazy.
I just discovered The Darkness a month ago. Better late than never. This is a great intersection of two of my favorite musicians.
Just found your channel and I love how humble you are! It's great to see an accomplished musician struggle a bit when learning songs by ear instead of making it look simple like you're reading off sheet music!
That was the best time I have ever had on UA-cam.
Thankyou to both of you.
Much respect.
Well played.
Yeehaw! Can't wait for this collab interview between two of my favourite channels.
Yeah!!
Justin, your humility is endearing (like admitting nerves at the beginning). This was a great hang between two guys of different generations who like the same things. Keep doing the interviews - so much is learned in little asides and throw-away comments. Really enjoyed it.
Justin, you should try listening to Triana. A 70s Spanish prog band, inspired by King Crimson and Floyd that fused that vibe with flamenco!
@@supertuscans9512 - He wasn't doing that during _this_ chat though, or was he?! (I still have half an hour to go)
@@supertuscans9512 Example(s) please - I've been watching Rick for years and can't recall an instance of self-pity.
Dude - when he broke down your intro - that was SO amazing and on point
I love that you two have sat down and had this conversation for the rest of us to here... We need more of this!!!
Rick and Justin in one place. Two icons of the music world who have entertained and educated us for many years. A thousand thanks to you both.
First watch of Justin and Rick together after watching them separately for years now. Rick is explaining Justin’s talent, and showcasing his own ❤
Justin is one of the few people I know who can turn any description into dialogue from Kubrick's Clockwork Orange.
I appreciate right out of the gate admitting you were a bit nervous! People don't realize at any stage of perceived success of public exposure nerves can creep up! This is going to be GREAT!
An enjoyable and illuminating interview. Both of you are fascinating people, and bring out the best in each other. Well done!
Love you both! Great interview…!
When the interview is slowed down to 1/4 speed it sounds like they’re both on something great! 7 hours in and really loving this interview..
Utterly hilarious. I slowed it down and just the right time while Justin was talkin and rocking back and forth with this handout pretending like he was holding a glass or a bottle.
Just watching the intro at 0.25…absolutely hilarious
ROFL... it takes an Irishman! 🙂
I did it too…. Flamenco….is about my fav music, meshed with the rock…. So I just, so I, justtt, support annnny kind offfff guitar that’s out therrrrrreee…. Uhhuhhhhmmmmmm . I haven’t laughed so hard in a while!
All of it 👍🙏
Thanks to you both.
Justin you should propose a regular video series with Rick where you do silly countdowns like 'top 10 70's artists who wouldn't have made it on MTV'
Good job Justin. This is pure gold.
Two musicians still so passionate about music and curious about musicians and each other. I’m in heaven. Thanks.
Thanks Justin, Rick is probably the best interview in the world of music and you worked it beautiful, brilliant rapport.
Great seeing two people passionate about music talking, both educators and thought provokers. Both fantastic channels.
I get the feeling that at this stage of Rick’s life his priority is passing on his skills and knowledge for future generations. He is a natural teacher and he also has a young family. Recording must be all engrossing so going back to that would take him away from his precious family.
So true. Rick comes across as a pretty folksy guy. It's a pleasure watching him get the trust of people he interviews.
Great interview! Thank you!
My wife is laughing at me because this is one of my favorites interviewing another. Totally makes my day. Thank you Justin. I discovered you and The Darkness a few months after you played in Seattle last year. AAAAAAUUGH!! I hate that when that happens.
The interviews will get easier now you've done the hardest one first. Rick's knowledge and experience is second to none. WELL DONE!!!!!
Yes, I'm sure Rick told you that.
You should definitely do more of these long form interviews, this was great. Justin, you are a gifted interviewer.
Yes, please. More interviews Justin. You’re great at this.
Love when Rick breaks down Justin's intro theme ♥
I know I'm late to the party, but just the conversation between someone with all the formal knowledge and someone who is a "natural" is so fascinating to me. Especially because they're both so positive to each other and genuinely invested in expanding their own knowledge and their enthusiasm for music in general
This was probably one of the most interesting interviews... A great artist talking to another great artist, very nice, well done
Musicians.
No one refers to Mozart as a great "artist". I happen to do both, so I draw (ah hm, pun.) the distinction.
Yes to all of this!
I love that Rick pitched justin hawkins rides again perfectly
I don't understand a quarter of the lingo between you, but the enthusiasm and passion being shared makes for a very enjoyable watch 👏
Feel like I’m sat in the room with two musical gods chit chatting truly awesome . Thank you both
You two riffing on cultural references across musical genres is pure gold 😎👌🥂
Been waiting for this since last week. Come on 5 hours
Two of my favourite UA-cam channels finally meet…Great stuff! 🎸🤘
